Well if nothing else, it drives the point home that even if you know your car front bumper bolts to tail lights things can go wrong.
And don't buy recapped tires.

I was readin an old R&T article this weekend about NASCAR back in the '60s, and one guy stated that it was only the self-induced illusion that it can't happen to you that keeps you climbing back into the car, week after week.
Kind makes you stop and think. But we won't quit. It's in our blood. And that's something great and tragic all at the same time.

I'm pretty bummed about Hypsi myself, I PM'd him a few times, and he was a great guy....
In case you guys are wondering who I am, my name's Leif, and I just recently purchased a 1987 300zx turbo with a 5spd. Right now, it's got a k&n filter, BOV, MBC, and a straight pipe (no muffler).

lol settle down fellas, yea it's not really loud at all, it purs nice though, but when I redline she screams like a cheap prostitute! I'm planning on putting a cat back aluminum exhaust on the car, with a high flow cat. Than up the boost to 8PSI, than get an i/c and up the boost to 10 and I'll go from there. Thanks for the welcome guys, glad to be a part of the fastest ground service in the world.
Oh and btw, the straight pipe was on when I purchased the car.

Yeah, unless you are going to go for at least a month or two I would wait. A year or two would probably be pretty good. I looked into getting a civilian job at the place I was at but it would have taken time to set up and get a place and all that so...maybe later.

After living in so cal, northern kenfucky and southern florida, I must say that so cal is the craziest...allow me to reminisce a bit...
Had a friend of mine strangled by her uncle in her bedroom (I almost could see her bedroom window from MY bedroom window...)...
Had another dude in my neighborhood molested
Had some dude get shot in the head in a field behind my house due to gang related shit.
...and this was a little town!
See if you can find Hemet on the map...lol. If you can find that, see if you can find San Jacinto. I'd be surprised if you can dig a map out of your closet and find those. (No Mapquest, cheaters!) I lived in San Jacinto and was born in Hemet...and the only reason I was born in Hemet was cuz San Jacinto didn't have a hospital. Shows you how small that town was. Both are about a half hour from Palm Springs. Happy hunting!
And yes, I do kinda wanna move back to Cali. Why, I have no fucking clue!!!

While there is that over there, thats still the small majority. Most of the girls (or at least the ones I paid attention to) I met in the various clubs and bars I went to were educated, at least in shape if not athletic, and as for looks? They would easily qualify as models in America. I highly recommend going there in person. Not any place I would want to be forever but I will definately be going back for a few years.
The cars ain't bad either. Smart cars are sweet. :D (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=436198)

the car's hesitating again... the plugs and wires fixed it for a while, but now it's getting really bad... damn near had to pull over on the highway today... most of my guages are a little bit screwy, and one of the family friends who's apparently a wizard with anything mechanical said it could be a grounding problem, so tomorrow i suppose i'll go through everything, all sensors that i can find and grounds and give them a cleaning... but the problem continually gets worse as my oil temperature increases... the pressure guage reads just fine, but the temperature i think is going below zero, so i'm not too sure what it really is.. i can't wait to get rid of these crappy ass stock guages and get some good ones in there that i can actually rely on...
with that in mind, i think i'm going to make next weekend my fluids weekend and make the switch to some quality synthetic oil instead of the sketchy performance regular 10w30 stuff... tranny/diff/radiator etc...
mods will come soon i promise.. just need to get the damn thing working properly before i make her fly.

I was still a Uni student. I just finished my degree 3 weeks ago. I have all the money for the trip saved up already. Ive spent the past 5 years working in Fast Food. Its all about bugeting your money.... And importing cars cheap Direct from Japan...
The hardest part about saving is stopping all the little things you go out and buy money on. A softdrink or 2 while your at skool/work/uni... thats $5AUS a day... Buying your lunch at a cafe $10... cd that you dont really need $25.... i had (mostly) stopped all my stupid little spending like going and getting takeaway and eating more at home. You would be surprised how much you save...
I would only spend money on going to the movies, out for coffee, out for dinner when i was out with my girlfriend cuz i dont like her paying for shit. (yes i am stupid but i cant help it :P) Now i have the $$$ already saved up I can relax. I needed to have $15,000 for the trip and ill need to have $15,000 left when i come back to buy my girlfriend an MR2 turbo for her 21st birthday. I have that money already accounted for so anything i earn between now and when we go away on the 2nd of January it mine to do with what i please.

I have that money already accounted for so anything i earn between now and when we go away on the 2nd of January it mine to do with what i please.
well it sounds like you got it all planned out.
ill pass...i need my petty buying. i guess i could go a nice trip if i wouldnt have had $25k rapped up in cars. ehh...you win some, you lose some.
as for wasting money, i think this guy should get a plaque for this one. i have never seen a bigger waste of money in my life. but hey, whatever tickles your fancy...

(yes i am stupid but i cant help it :P) Now i have the $$$ already saved up I can relax. dropping that kinda cash on your girl is pretty big, hope she doesn't turn around and screw ya... well... that can be taken two ways... i'm sure at least one of them will happen ;)
anyway, good choice on france.. i've been there and it sucked... dirty, stinky and downright.. well.. french. and hey, if you're coming thru a little town called kelowna in canada, look me up. we'll have a beer and chat cars.
I know the implifications about spending up that much. :) in both ways. :evillol: Its her favourite car and well... hot chicks in hot cars are just so f**king sexy!!!
Im looking at trying to go halves or 2/3 -1/3 with her parents on it. I havent actuallly talked to them about it yet.
EVERYONE ive talked to has said that about France. Thats why we are only going for a little bit. Just to say we have been there.
Where about is Kelowna in Canada? Im sure i can arrange to stop off there for a bit.
i guess i could go a nice trip if i wouldnt have had $25k rapped up in cars.
How do you think im going to fund my trip? :sadwavey: cars...

and DZ, as for bush...i had forgotten about him. but i have alittle funny story that has to do with political officials wasting money.
the mayor of my city enforced a mandantory city sticker about 5 years back. charged $50 for this sticker...if you didnt have it, you were sure to get a ticket for $75 for not having it. well just this past year he had to run for office once again and the guy running against him asked him to show what he did with the money from the city stickers. after several days of talk of the mayor non existent proof, the monday paper states that the city sticker will no longer be used and it will be dropped. needless to say, the mayor never did come up with any proof of what he did with the money except to make his and the strip club owners pockets fatter.
ok, i just found that a little funny and ironic...F***ING BUSH!!!

$15,000 to spend three months traveling the world is money very, very well spent.
Anyway, I stayed in Kaiserslaughtern in southwest Germany. Pretty nice little town, kind of touristy but not too bad. Plenty of really great bars. There is this one with a wall urinal that changes colors as you piss on it. Sounds stupid but you are usually pretty drunk at that point so it's cool as hell.
I took a video of it. :)
Here are some screen shots :D

As for places I would not recommend going when you are in Germany, don't go to Frankfurt. It was leveled during WWII so there is nothing historical to see and the clubs and bars really aren't that great. The women there are awesome for the most part, met two very lovely young women one night and almost went down to Monaco with them the next day to catch an F1 race. While that would have been utterly awesome, it didn't pan out. ****. Maybe next time. Michael Schumacher is a GOD over there. So is Paris Hilton, which is really depressing.

There, you just saw everything worth seeing in Frankfurt.
Trier down by the French border is awesome. It's the oldest town in Germany, with Roman ruins dating back to 100 AD. That spot has been lived in more or less continously for 4000 years.

...maybe... LOOK! A DISTRACTION! *runs away*
Sounds good to me. Ill hit there ~around~ Mid February. Ill keep you posted when we start figuring out exact dates.
You mean to tell me that you saved ~30G working in fast food?! Over what length of time? 10 Years!? Good job, man...
Well technially i had 6k given to me pay for 1/2 my 1st car (1998 Lancer Gli) So everything else ive saved. $24,000. Shit... that is a lot to save... I first started working in fast food in october 2000.. so ~ 5 years.
hey, ship that celica to me...that would be a fun little car.
Oh it is... Im loving AWD drifting... Same engine as the MR2 turbo but with AWD. Also the guy that services/mods my GT4 is Australia's predominant MR2 tuner. His MR2 is set up for 600hp...
he calls it saving money on items that arent needed...i call it being cheap and penny pinching. no offense...i respect anyone that can eat ramen noodles their whole life. im tired of them after a couple months and if i ever see another bowl of spaghettios or ravioli i will vommit.
Im not that bad :p I jsut dont spent every single cent i have every week like i used to. I still own over 200, original not copied, cds. I I spend a fair amount of money on people for presents. ~$40 a month I go out to dinner about twice maybe three times a month to proper restraunts. ~ $40 per meal. Not cheap. I just pick and choose what I feel like spending my money on rather than just throwing it away on a whim, like subway... mmm subway...
I also still live at home so i havent been paying board or for meals or anything. Still getting awesome home cooked meals every night :iceslolan Mum's are great!
Broke.
That urinal is by far one of the most mental things i have ever seen  Ill have to try it out when im there. Some awesome pics there Broke! Ill have to buy me a new digital recorder for when im away. I love all the old buildings and stuff. All the old skool European stuff is awesome. Thats what i want to spend a lot of time doing in Erope. Looking at mental old prewar-during war stuff. Ive taken notes of those places in my "random places people have told me are good" list. Quite often its these places that kick the most ass :grinyes:

Definately get something to record it all. Even with just a cheap digital camera with limited video/audio capability I have about a gigabyte worth of pictures and videos from Germany. Get a couple gigabyte memory cards for your camera and you'll be fine, I had one and it would hold either an hour of video or 1100 pictures. Or even better, I suggest getting a cheap laptop that you can down load pictures into so you don't have to carry around a bunch of said memory cards. Also, many hotels now offer cheap or free internet access. Sending emails home is much cheaper than international calls. Plus you can then get online to get maps, directions, travel info, swedish porn, taxi phone numbers, train schedules or anything else you might need.
Anyway, if I remember correctly, it was in a place called Barrosso, in the middle of downtown Kaiserslaughtern. It's by one of the main bus stops and the small square it is in has a new-agey water fountain. Go all the way to the back and down the stairs. Funniest thing was this girl we had with us just HAD to see the magical color changing piss wall so one of our guys put on a show for her.

We are going to be taking a laptop with us to New Zealand. 2 of my mates are joining my girlfriend and I for that leg of the trip and we are going to take a laptop over there with us. But once we leave we are going to let them take the laptop back home with them. My girlfriend and I are going to be backpacking it around the world and a laptop + charger would just be too heavy to lug around all day everyday. but if i can find an ultrasmall one or something then i will definately look into getting one.

Definately get a cam and a laptop. I used to roam the US all the time cuz my dad worked for an airline and I got free flights. ALWAYS at LEAST had my computer and my cell phone with me. Usually only had 2 bags with me at ALL anyway, a small duffle bag with clothes and my computer bag...I am the MASTER of packing light. I could fit 5 days worth of stuff in that little bag.
Check into something like this (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?CategoryName=dcc_DICamcorders_DVDHandycamCam corders&ProductSKU=DCRDVD7&INT=sstyle-dcc_DICamcorders-catpfeature-DCRDVD7)...would be indespensible on a long trip like that. Get a medium sized computer bag (or even a computer bag that's like a backpack, too...I know I've seen those before...) and you can carry a small stack of DVD-Rs, the cam and computer all in your computer bag. You'd be good to go.
I'm tempted to go over there JUST to piss in that urinal. That's some funny shit. Craziest thing I've ever seen in a bathroom was in a little ice cream shop on Clematis St. in Downtown West Palm Beach. The bathroom was just a little tiny tiled room with a toilet and a sink...nothing fancy...but, as you walked in, you relized that the door is glass and there's nothing stopping people from watching you do whatever in there. Then you lock it and the whole thing goes black until you open it again. Cool as hell. It's the same technology that is used to make the time on an LCD clock visible. You know...black with the gray background. Not sure what that is called, but the glass is clear until you lock the door...then it turns into one giant LCD pane. Pretty cool.

A small laptop these days only weighs a few pounds, charger not much more, fit in a decent sized bag easy enough with plenty of room to spare. Anyway, I just mentioned it because it comes in very handy.

Uh...no it wasn't. It was electronic. When you latched the lock, the thing tripped a little switch and the thing went black. I've seen the technology before in other applications.

Get a medium sized computer bag (or even a computer bag that's like a backpack, too...I know I've seen those before...) and you can carry a small stack of DVD-Rs, the cam and computer all in your computer bag. You'd be good to go.
Thats pretty kool actually. Ive never seen one of those before. I doubt they have been released in Australia yet though. and if they have, they will be costing a pretty penny. But still, definately somehting to look into.
You may have been able to pack 5 days worth of stuff in that bag, but im going away for 6 months :p It compounds the problem somewhat :grinyes:

some of you requested better pictures of the new wheels on the car. they are 18x8.5" in the front and 18x9.5" in the rear. 245/40/18 up front and 275/35/18 around back. i am going to try and get a shot of the rear of the car from underneath, just to put it in persective how wide these rear tires are. :D
