i guess, but i'm kind of worried about how much thread that will decrease on the lugs, if there's a cirtain amount to where it gets dangerous... i'll ask the guy tomorrow, since the wheel place is like 20 seconds from where i work

oh one moooooooore thing... anyone know the offset for the z31's? i went into kal tire today and they said it was like +30 or something and it was really hard to find rims with that sort of offset... is this true? maybe i'll just get some r32 rims like euroZ.... i'm still waiting for pics of that to see how it looks!!
damn that would suck i hope i dont have a problem finding rims

do what i did, the last owner (or the owner before him) put my current wheels on and he put spacers on to clear the brakes. there was barely any lug sticking out, but i guess he decided that was fine. well, it got to the point where three of the lugs stripped on one side and two of them stripped on the other side. so i went and bought some longer studs, now its just fine.

It'd a VH45DE with VK45 heads and Web cams, RD springs, Aries pistons, Total Seal rings, Ed Pink blue printed heads and crank, Dual Whipple superchargers. Dual 1000cc injectors, IPT automatic transmission, 9 1/2" billet TC, Dry sump oil system, custom SS headers, Snow water/alky injection, 2 stages of nitrous. The block was xrayed, heat treated and a crank girdle installed to keep the crank in place.

yeah they were telling you trh truth...not many company make wheels for our cars that arent high end. i guess that is good in a way...im getting 8.5" wheels in the front and 9.5" wheels in the back and i think my backspacing is +35 in the front and +42 in the rear. ill have to couble check that because i dont quite remember.

for wheel spacers, would it be better to just get some longer studs and fab up some pieces of aluminum the right size? i think i'll call up a buddy of mine that works at a machine shop and see if he could do something up for me... because they're Damn expensive to buy...

isnt the electrical tape just melting?
why is it rattling in the first place, missing bolts??? id probably just remove it. whats the shield protecting??

i dunno if it's melting or what, but it stopped the rattle for a good 2 weeks... i think when they repaired the exhaust they had to take the shield off, and the probably didn't put it back on very well, so that's why it's rattling... it's just protecting the lower part of the headders and the collector area i think... i'ma get it up on blocks today and see what the deal is

well it is probably shieldign the heat from the headers from something whether its the body drivetrain tunnel or the starter or something...you know what i mean. if there is something vital that is sitting next to the headers then i would leave it and try to rig it up soem how so it doesnt rattle. your probably gonna get tired of sticking electrical tape in there every few weeks.

well its probably there for a reason, i know theres a heat shield between the passenger side header and the starter and that could very easily be what is rattling, for everyone getting a rattle, just tighten every screw/bolt u can find holding the shield on, and if its mising bolts, take one out, go to the hardwear store and say hey, give me one of these.

DeleriousZ
04-02-2005, 09:59 PM
it's not really protecting anything... just so the bottom of the car doesn't heat up or something... might be protecting the driveshaft from a bit of heat, but i couldn't see it doing much.... the same thing happened on my old integra, a little rock got stuck in the heat shield over the cat and was annoying the hell out of me, took me a good 2 weeks to figure out what was making the noise...
i wish i had a short shifter for my z... they're so nice compared to the mile long stock throw.... i don't know why the manufacturers didn't make it a shorter throw in the first place!

oh, well while i was working on the car tonight i decided to see what was under all that carpeting and stuff at the back... well i took out the little piece that holds the tools and this is what i found....
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/154609toolholder-med.JPG
that's the bottom of the piece that holds the tools, and this is where it was sitting....
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/154609rusty_rusty_rear_left-med.JPG
that's a really ridiculous amount of rust in there... thank god for the sound deadening or it probably would have eventually eaten through the whole bottom of the car... it's just the plate in there that holds on the trunk release i'm pretty sure, but i'm going to take it off tomorrow, sand it down and spray it down with a bunch of layers of spray paint... hopefully there's some of it left on the bottom so it holds together...
i'm not too sure how it happened but the whole bottom of the tool thingy was sopping wet... i guess someone had spilt something in there and it just sat there not drying out at all, rusting the metal away... i've got the thing sitting out, it's probably going to take a really long time to dry...

short shifter's aren't rice, they're really really handy in my eyes... it's pretty crazy how much faster you can shift with one. i know when i had one in my integra, the only thing slowing my shifts down after i put it in was how fast my legs could move

second-this thread is soo dead, so just thought id say something.........hmmm
well today i put my console and everything back togehr fter my shortshifter install.
and i finally got the TB gaskets ive been wating for since i got my intake polished for free. so now the plenum has everyhing on it including TBs and im almost ready to put the plenum back on. But i still have to finish splicing and crimping the new connectors on and my injector caps STILL arent in.
Today i called nissan and they were like yeah all you stuff is in, and then i got there, they handed me the gaskets, and said oh yeah the insulators are on back order WTF so itll be a few more days.

so i was doing some research earlier on, because the guys in the skyline forum are freaking useless...
anyway, i found out that the stock 200zr *apparently* has 180ps and 23 kgm, which equals out to be around 177 hp and 166 ftlbs... which is weird because it's got the exact same engine as the skyline gts-t/m which is said to have 212 hp and 195 ftlbs.... what's up with that??
i'm thinking it might have something to do with tuning... perhaps different cam specs or ecu? i'm sure i could clear that right up with a set of stock skyline cams and skyline ecu, but i don't think i should really have to.. i could have sworn the 200zr's had more power than that...... either way, they can be turned into monsters easily:D
on the other hand, i was reading... (well trying to decypher a japanese page...) about a guy who swapped an rb26dett into his 200zr.. it actually looks pretty easy to do aside from the wiring aspect... just need a few custom motor mounts and an rb25det transmission, along with a custom driveshaft and you're golden... the expensive part is the engine... looking at probaby at least 4 grand for it... ouch!

well i was bored at work today, so i did a few equations and worked out what that'd be if those were the specs at the wheels, and using the formula
(theoretical/actual) x100 = percent i plugged in 177 as actual and took 16% for percent and worked it out to...
(percent/100) x actual = theoretical
(16/100)x177= 28.32 ~~~ 28.32+177=~205 flywheel hp should be ~205 hp
(16/100)x166= 26.56 ~~~ 26.56+166=~193 flywheel tq should be ~193 ft lbs
which kind of comes close to the stock skyline rb20det specs, might be a bit more loss, might be a bit less... but i'm hoping that's what the deal is...
holy shit high school actually paid off for something!!!

turns out according to z31.com my zed has only a 10mm offset... it's the 84 and 85 that have the 30mm... 86T has 20mm along with the 87-88 i think

And unforntunately, my busy life is showing no signs of letting up. Just thought I would stop in and see what is going on.
How's everyone doing?

O the Civic is doing amazing... I have been asked to join the Clodd Racing Team... Quite an honor I might say. After they saw how I've been doing in the last few Auto Cross Events, they said they had to give me a shot.
Anyways, we're getting the Civic ready to run up at VIR (Virginia International Raceway)... Which means full suspension work, and a huge increase in power. Fortunately, I wont be paying for most of these parts... Sponsors kick Ass :D
So... In the works: GReddy 15G Full Turbo kit, upgraded with Super 16G Turbo, 450cc DSM Injectors, AEM High Volume Fuel Rail, and FPR, and straight back exhaust. Koni Yellow Shocks, and Eibach Pro Kit lowering springs... Also full bracing from Megan Racing. Not to mention the 4 point roll cage. Also we're going Zex Lightweight Flywheel, Exedy StageII Clutch, and 350hp Test CV Joints and Axels.
As of now I have Avon Tech R Compound Radials on the front only... But I will have to upgrade to all four early in the summer if I want to be competitive. The things are so soft, you can leave a detailed finger print in them just by pressing lightly.
And as for the Zed search... Ooo it's getting closer :D
I went and test drove a nasty 1991 Zed32 Twin Turbo... JWT Pop Chargers, JWT ECU, STILLEN Down pipes, HKS Hyper exhaust, HKS GT2530 Turbos (I think?) hard intercooler piping, HKS Sequential BOVs, and front mount intercooler :evillol:
He has Speedline wheels, wrapped in Falken tires as well.
Exterior wise, he had some extremely nice body work done... Full STILLEN kit, GTZ-R front, side skirts, and real valence. Ducted nose panel as well. JDM Headlights, and Fairlady taillights. And wingless, just the way I like it.
He left the interior stock... The leather is absolutely perfect.
He is asking $19,500 for it... So we're working out the payment plans with the bank, and I guess we'll see how it unfolds in the next week or so.
The guy selling it is pretty damn cool too... He's in his mid 40's or so, he has been the original owner since 1991, has all maintence records, every receipt for every modification... He even had the engine fully rebuilt before he started to modify it. He deffinately took care of the car.
The car is scary fast... I went down I40 chirping every gear, after I got out of the car, I was shaking from excitement... I've never had a car do that to me.
Anyways, I'm going to take it over to the Zed place in town to have them do a FULL inspection on it, and see if it's really worth $19,500... So we'll see how it goes from there, God I can't wait to have a Zed car again :D

Good to hear about the progessing racing career there Wes. Thats one thing I've kicked myself about this whole year my Z has been sitting in the garage taking up all my money. What else could it have been used for and where else could I be?
Anyway, I was actually going to try to get into cart racing this summer but due to a few details going on with an important organization I belong to, I'm just going to have to wait and see how things go and decide from there.
