broke: yeah i still have to order the parts but hey you guys just dont understand how close i am...:D i am down into the hundreds of dollars instead of thousands. just need to pull my engine and tranny and sell them or atleast one of them and i will be set. anybody need a spare engine or auto tranny, tranny has less than 12k miles on the fresh rebuild. motor pulls strong and less than 100k and i am about to find out what the cold start problem is all about...

and as for upgrading the motor. i think i will be sticking with the stock motor and doing essential bolt-ons while the motor and tranny is out. ie: clutch, flywheel, downpipes, and a few other things probably. along with other basic bolt-ons throughout the summer. next winter is when i will probably start to dig in deeper!!!

and yes i bought the z31 so i wouldnt have to hike everywhere i needed to be. do you think i just buy things for fun?!?!?! but the z31 is starting to grow on me. i might not be able to part with it if i ever finish this damn paint job...its too cold too be painting anything here.

Anyway, K3, what are you planning to do next winter as you might be able to incorporate some of that this winter and skip upgrading the same thing twice.

well beings i am kinda aiming at the same goals you are, my list is very similar except for all the "extras" you put huge money on.
like those damn iconel exhaust manifolds.

-555cc nismo fuel injectors
BTW: anybody hear anything about these babies flowing more than the 555cc, i heard somewhere that the 555cc flow more than the 555cc at which they are rated. :dunno:
-wiesco forged pistons
-eagle rods, i know the stock pieces are sufficient for what i want but for an extra $400, might as well lighten things up to make it less stressful.
-ARP bolts/studs
-either the JWT 530BB or the HKS GT2530's (i think they are)...i have read good things of both.

i think that will just about conclude my journey. i havent decided whether or not i want to upgrade the heads yet. probably depends alot on my financial status when next winter rolls around. ]

how does it look? i know i probably missed a couple things that will be needed. but overall, i am setting realistic goals and i am pretty sure i wont want to take it much beyond 500rwhp...it will be a street car. i have no intentions of ever making it a track only car.

and to further my list for this year with thigns i want to do before the engine goes in the car. i want a nice guage pod (just so i can keep my eye on things), ported exhaust manifolds and port and polished intake manifold. i think that is it for performance upgrades. i will be doing a few thigns to make my engine bay look like a "work-of-art". :naughty:

broke: you have any advice on things i should add or delete, besides, do it now while the engine is out.

Broke_as_****
12-28-2004, 05:47 AM
If you want the ported exhaust manifolds then I would definately do that while the engine is out, that way you can have the turbos inspected (shouldn't even have to do that if its 50k miles or less) and change the turbo and exhaust gaskets while your at it. Also, while you're changing the timing belt and doing all that you could drop an underdrive pulley on the car, its not that much more and you'll be changing the other belts anyway. Everything else can be done while the engine is in.

The ECU, if you plan on driving hard this summer then I would get it in the car this spring, that way all you have to do next winter is get the new chip.

At the end of the summer you'll probably have done:

Manifolds, underdrive pulley, downpipes, flywheel, clutch, catback, intake, ECU, testpipes w/cats if you get around to it (get them custom made, cheaper and easier)

Frankly thats going to be pretty damn quick, given that your lag will be measured in tenths of a second. You might find it a wise option to simply stop there and not waste any more money on the car (most people are lucky if they get 1/3 of their upgrade money back when they sell it).

But if you do plan to go ahead with it, the 555s may have been rated conservatively by Nismo. Don't bank on them flowing more than 555. If you have to, just get the 740s or 615s as the case may be. No sense breaking something because you were hoping for a freebie.

Between the 530s and the GT2530s, the best dynos I've seen are 520 rwhp for the JWTs and 580rwhp for the GT2530s, both on inconel manifolds. Those were equal settings as far as boost (24psi) and both were on race gas. However, the GT car had cam work, ported heads and a full computer tuning...given cam work, some air/fuel ratio attention and some light intake/head work, the JWTs SHOULD be good for 550rwhp, maybe a little more. Given that the JWT chart looked more like a stock turbo chart (almost straight up after about 3000rpm) and the GTs were much more of a traditional curve and that the GTs run around $750-1000 more...well...I'm really not trying to be a damn salesman here but from what I've seen my choice is pretty clear.

Also:

well, i was going to do the ported exhaust manifolds while the engine was out and order a set of testpipes (no convertor) to follow my downpipes. i have to order them because i dont have any connections at an exhaust shop that will allow me to not use cats. but then again my 2+2 might not allow everything to bolt up and i might need to take it to a exhaust shop anyways...:dunno:

and the UD pulley, that will probably be a definite when i change the timing belt...

and the ECU....that is the first thing i will be getting after the engine is in. i want to get the engine in and drive it for a couple days to make sure i dont need to spend any extra cash getting the engine back up to "par"....

i will make a decision on turbos and fuel injectors when the time comes, as i probably will be purchasing new tires also. :evillol:

so when you say that all that will be pretty damn quick, how quick are we talking??? how much WHP??? and about what do people run in the 1/4 and 0-60 to put it in better perspective???

come on Jorge, we need to show these n/a folks' how its done...they do not need to be looked down upon for having an n/a when having a beast is so easy to conceive!!!

With the listed upgrades, a good driver with good tires could run consistent 11s in the 1/4. I don't have the link on me but Zgringo posted a website with a nice list of people who run 11s on stock turbos. You're not going to be some kill-all-comers-I-am-the-king-of-the-road badass but it should easily be sitting at around 350rwhp (limited mostly by the fact the stock injectors aren't going to flow more than about 15psi worth of gas), which is more than enough to haul ass, especially since you're going to near zero lag.

Dude... No way.

On the way home from picking up my Civic from the body shop today, I pulled up next to a nice looking Non-Turbo Coupe Zed32. I rolled down my window and said 'Nice Zed bro'

And apperently he thought I was challenging him... He shouted back 'it can beat your shit'.

... Oooo I had to just see if he was right.

*Green*

I took first gear to 6,750rpm, hit a really good shift into second, took that to 7,000rpm, 2-3 wasn't great, I hesitated coming off the clutch... And by this time I looked over and saw him fishing off my rear bumper :sly:

What the Hell?

I couldnt believe it... I beat a Zed in a Shitvic. We got to the next light, and he said 'You pushing some JDM shit bro? That car aint stock right?'

... I revved it and said '130 unbridled horsepower buddy' He didnt get it... So I yelled back 'Its stock man'.

He couldnt believe it... And honestly, I couldnt either.

How is this possible... A D16Z6 powered '94 Civic EX with no mods other than a short shifter, and a strut tie bar... Beat a Zed32 Non-Turbo Coupe?

... He must really suck at shifting.

there has to be something wrong with that driver. he probably either bogged the launch or had to much wheelspin, either is easy to do in a zed. and if you don't get a good start in a zed i have noticed, 1st and 2nd gear will be completely worthless. he was probably some highschool kid that just got the car and didn't know how to drive it.

wes, man there had to have been something either wrong with his car or he really really sucked at driving... or he could have been playing with you... i'm hoping it was door #3 cause if it was the other 2 he really doesn't deserve to be driving a zed. so you didn't get him to pull over and ask him what the deal was? altho... almost half the hp, but near 1000 lbs lighter... who knows... then again, i think the stock 1/4 is like.. 16.9 or something for the civic... compared to....? of the n/a Zed

George I think it has the RB25DET with HICAS (HIgh Capacity Active Steer... Or assisted AWD).

But anyways, the dude was dead as serious when he asked me what I had done to it... I was taken aback by the whole situation. He may have been taking the shifts too deep I think, because I could hear that VG peeking VERY high.

And I think he hit the rev limiter on 2nd-3rd, heard a pretty bad rpm sputter from him.

But then again, Im pretty damn good at handling the shifting on the Civic, so that probably had a factor in it.

Barely even burped the tires into second, which is kind of hard to do when quick shifting on a D16Z6 like that... But O well, I see the guys car once in a while, I'll just snap a pic next time I see him :D

"Introduced to compete with the Subaru Legacy Touring wagon, the Nissan Stagea was launched in 1996 and featured a 2.5-litre inline-six engine. It was good for a claimed output of 276 horsepower, however the real ratings would have been closer to 293. Sending power to all four wheels, that model was good for a 0-60 mph time of 6.4 seconds and a 1/4 mile time of 14.5. Enter Autech and the Stagea 260RS. Using the Skyline GTR engine and driveline, the stated output remained at 276 but in reality that figure was now closer to 310. Besides a small increase in displacement from 2.5 to 2.6 litres, the Stagea Autech also employs a beefier rear anti-roll bar and a strut brace linking the front suspension towers as well as a mechanical limited slip differential for the rear axle and Brembo disc brakes with ABS all around to improve stopping power. The straight line performance, braking and handling is improved dramatically over the base model. If this this is still not enough though, a Nismo tuned version is available whose 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are somewhere in the neighbourhood of 5.1 and 13.6 seconds, respectively".

^ Bow Down!!! Bwahahaha!

Yuh... they are awesome cars! I have heard that these cars (Stagea's/Autech 260RS's and Skyline/GTR's) are nearly untouchable (even by the police interceptors) on the streets! They are one of the few cars most feared of on the legendary WANGAN!
