The problem with a nationwide run is most if not all of you couldn't afford the time or money to pull off such a neat adventure. It would be a life time of memory's and you'd get to meet Zgringo in person and I might even give you one of Zgringo's autographed "T" shirt's. Now that itself would be worth the trip.

so yesterday i replaced my fuel pressure reg. with an oem one and it made a noticable diff. on my car running even better, if u guys got car that are as old as mine (90) i suggest just replacing some old parts like that.

so i went and checked out that 240z today, and most of it is in pretty damn good condition.. barely any rust on the body of the car, just one rear fender that's been hacked up pretty bad, but a nice set of fender flares would clear that up nicely. tiny bit of rusted through on the passenger side on the bottom of the car, i wasn't able to actually look underneath the car to see if there was any rust. the paint's in excellent condition for the most part, but the rear taillight assembly is missing and looks to have been bashed in somewhat.

either way, it's definitely a project car... it'll just be interesting to see what the towing bill would be to get it from there to here... it's a long long way away

yep, i have done everything by myself except pull the engine out of the car. i had a buddy guide pump the jack while i guided it out without tearing up any valuable items. :D it really isnt all that difficult, just time consuming and aggravating. the only hard part is breaking the bolts loose and getting to the bolt you need out. i think i have done everything with a couple of ratchets and mm sockets, a full set of straight mm wrenches, screwdrivers, vice-grips, breaker bar, floor jack and stands, and a torque wrench.

yeah, pb blaster wasnt all that needed...most of the bolts werent that hard to break loose. probably the hardest are the exhaust bolts if you have never had it off but forutnately have had mine off a couple times.

yes, we will see in a few weeks...i think the hardest part of getting everything back together is all the wiring involved (for me) and finding which hose goes where. not the mechanical aspect...

i have a long weekend coming up right when i get back from vacation so i am looking forward to working on it virtually non stop for 4 days.

no, what i meant was that i have a long weekend coming up at my job...i am covering someone elses shift while they are on vacation, when i get back. their shift happens to conisist of a long weekend. i have to work mon-fri and then i dont go back until wed the next week. :naughty: i should get a lot done over that...

yeah, i only snapped the head off 1 bolt...so i was more than happy about that. i have kinda of a problem though...the previous owner snapped the head off of the bolt that holds down the wiring harness to the ECU. so...i am totally gracious to any ideas on how to get that out with hurting the wiring harness. i was thinking about taking apart the ECU and opening the whole in the back of it with a screwdriver. i dont really care about the ECU...

drill a hole inside the screw, reverse tap the hole and thread a reverse thread screw in the new hole and turn it till it's tight, keep turning and it should have enough torque to break the old bolt loose.... then again, you'd need some pretty small tapping equipment and such.... the best way is just to very carefully drill it out and retap it if you have a tapping tool.... if not... duct tape is your friend :sunglasse

easier said then done...its a pretty thin screw and it is surrounded by 5 million wires. one slip and i will probably have to buy a new harness. thats why i was thinking of opening the bolt on the ECU part and then the whole wiring harnesses should be free. then i can grab on to the bottom of the bolt with a pair of vice-grips and then keep screwing it through. this might be easier and less dangerous if you know what i mean...

I have dreams about driving my old z, waking up dissapointed that i have to drive around a piece of shit 1994 nissan sentra...I got a decent paying job working with mentally disabled adults, $11.50/hr 40+hr weeks, so ill be able to afford a TT by about september or october.

thats cool...my buddy has a job as a tech at a place like that which i assume is the same thing your doing. he works midnight shift and sits on his ass all night. so he does his homework and then goes to sleep, then goes to school in the morning, then by 12 he is done with school and goes to sleep, then he still has his party life before he goes back to work at midnight...let alone weekends. if you were gonna work and go to school full-time that woul be the only way to do it.

anyways, thanks for the luck...im worried more about figuring out the wiring diagrams for my clutch pedal depressed switch and other manual transmission wiring i need to do, like the reverse switch. ill figure it out if its the last thing i do...:lol:

thats what im doing...but my TT motor came with better harnesses that arent all broken and corroded...so im gonna splice in those clips. really, you dont have to do any wiring to install a new TT harness. all you need to do is remove the old one through the firwall and run the new one in. thats probably the easiest way.

but i figure i can spend $300 on a wiring harness now and then send $300 on a boost controller now later. OR i can just splice in new clips and buy a boost controller now...so basically im saiving myself $300 in exchange for more work.

the wiring for the TT swap is pretty much plug-n-play...its the 5-speed swap that takes a little bit of searching and know-how to figure out where to splice what. but i look to cure that problem once i figure it out myself...


George, the most difficult part of the swap to me was figuring out the vacuum hose. they cut and yank everything so by the time it gets to you you have hoses missing, hoses cut and hanging. this is where the Service Manual comes in handy because it has some pretty good diagrams.
