Delerious, I was 18 as of Halloween.
And I dont think the heat will be an issue... Plus heat shield isnt all that expensive, I'll just run it all along the bottom of the car, and build a steel shield around the turbo, so not pot hole takes it out.
Only thing is, it wont be able to ever be lowered... 'Whats the scraping noise Wes?'... 'O thats just the Turbo... Dont worry about it'
Im trying to get my buddies Zed32 up on a lift this weekend so I can start taking reference pictures, and start doing some angles and such. I may even have to chop into the uni-body and build a sort of 'bubble' above it, so it will have a snug place to fit.
But considering the money, and time I'll save on custom made exhaust manifolds, it does seem to be worth it. I just hope I can figure out a way to make it work... Hell I may even just end up putting it in place of the mufflers. I'd probably put it smack in the center, right where the license plate is... Mold a cool looking valence around it (Still keeping it stock looking).
The would be sick... All you see in my exhaust pipe is a turbine spinning :D
But we'll see... I'll probably find something wrong with the project, and forget about it... But once again, we'll just have to see.

You welded it on yourself?
yeah my buddy works at an exhaust shop...he took a look at it and he bent some pipes that he thought i could make his bends work. so i did some trimming and my grandpa has a mig welder so he gave me a quick tutorial on welding. then i just cut and welded it in place, except at the very end, i used a couple exhaust clamps to put the last piece in so i could adjust the angle of the muffler. its not pretty but it works great. im headed out to get the gaskets right now. the hardest part was getting the hangers in the right place so it hangs exactly where i want it.
ill take pictures after i get the gaskets. i wish you guys could hear it, sounds like a v8 with couple of flowmasters....

wes, i dont think you will have a problem running the piping...if i remember correctly there is plenty of room on the side of transmission to run the piping. i think your problem is going to be finding a place to put the turbo. the only place i can think of is right behind the trans where the driveshaft is linked...you may be able to mount it next to the driveshaft to keep it from getting damaged.

i just read this quote in this month's issure of motor trend. "When you drive a limited-production, high-performance automobile, you expect car buffs to check out your wheels. Italian exotics, Dubbed-out Escalades, snorthing 911s, Vettes, Vipers, and Nissan Z-cars grab their share of stares." quotes like that make me feel good down inside.

yeah well i got stares today, but not in mt Z but in my concorde....let me finish, i was driving home from doin an oil change on my friends car, on the freeway my hood popped open and broke both hinges and actuators and slammed against the windshield shattering it and denting the roof too, but im goin 70 so i get it controled and off to the side and end up tyin it down and gettin home but man if youve ever had the hood open on u on the freeway its crazy. the reason it popped was cuz the car was wrecked a while back and the hood latch has always been a lil crappy but it actually gave out so....im ok and drive safe guys

glad it wasn't in your z it did that. yeah, last year, i was having fun on the snow and ice in my beater car and i was going around in circles with big rocks on the outside of the circle thing, and yeah, went to fast and jammed onto one of ther rocks. backed off and went home and it hit right smack dab in the middle and knocked up the bar that my hood latches to. it kind of shakes down the interstate, eh.

That took five minutes. And while I am still highly occupied, I do have some spare time. I've been writing down everything I've learned so far about that night and I might post it if it ever starts making any sense. However I can report that after three court appearances in the last few weeks, and a couple of trips to visit people in the local holding cell, nobody is going to jail. Community service, fines, written apologies to various landowners and some more ass chewings are all probably coming but for the most part its blown over. Just like the coffee stand.

i cant wait to hear this story, sounds f***ing juicy!!! :D
anyways, i hope everything works out for you and your participants...good luck!!!
on to other news:
did i ever mention to you guys how much i hate working on my Z31?!?!? seriously, give me a wrench and ill have at my Z32...everything is so much simpiler and works how it is supposed to with that car. the Z31 was far under engineered when it came to ease of labor, it seems that they took alot of the engine bay ideas from the Z31 and turned around and engineered it alot more user friendly with the Z32. the Z32 is still more complex to work on than your average car but compared to the Z31, i feel like im working on a civic...JEEZ.
the first 2 plugs when fairly smooth, i started on the passenger side closest to the front bumper. those went very smooth, now i get to the third one and im cruising. then i get to where all i have to do is unscrew the plug and replace. nuh..uhhh....stuck. i had a freaking breaker bar on this plug, it will not budge!!!
so i move to the driver's side...yeah. i see i can do the first one and maybe the second one closest to the bumper. but that third one, do you have to remove the whole TB assembly right there??? anyways, i didnt even mess with the driver's side yet. tomorrow is a new day so i will try again then...
on further news:
i got my exhaust gaskets installed, but i havent gotten to hear it because i started the plugs before the exhaust. i will take pics tomorrow after i got buy some new ignition wires and finish up the plugs, hopefully...
im getting close to having it done!!! alot closer than when i bought it.
even further news:
guess what i ordered today!!!! yeah thats right, everything i need to change my Z32 automatic to a good ole fashioned 5-speed, including the trans. everything has 32k miles except for the clutch, it was replaced with an upgraded piece 10k miles ago!!! :evillol:
well im done, i needed to vent and release before i went to bad. why did i get into such an expensive hobby?!?!?! :D

the first 2 plugs when fairly smooth, i started on the passenger side closest to the front bumper. those went very smooth, now i get to the third one and im cruising. then i get to where all i have to do is unscrew the plug and replace. nuh..uhhh....stuck. i had a freaking breaker bar on this plug, it will not budge!!!
so i move to the driver's side...yeah. i see i can do the first one and maybe the second one closest to the bumper. but that third one, do you have to remove the whole TB assembly right there??? anyways, i didnt even mess with the driver's side yet. tomorrow is a new day so i will try again then...
on further news:
i got my exhaust gaskets installed, but i havent gotten to hear it because i started the plugs before the exhaust. i will take pics tomorrow after i got buy some new ignition wires and finish up the plugs, hopefully...
im getting close to having it done!!! alot closer than when i bought it.
even further news:
guess what i ordered today!!!! yeah thats right, everything i need to change my Z32 automatic to a good ole fashioned 5-speed, including the trans. everything has 32k miles except for the clutch, it was replaced with an upgraded piece 10k miles ago!!! :evillol:
well im done, i needed to vent and release before i went to bad. why did i get into such an expensive hobby?!?!?! :D

using a u-joint for getting at those plugs? yes they are a bitch, but it is possible to get em all eventually... just keep givin-er... trust me, if you go to remove the ac you'll be swearing a lot harder if you do it the same way i did... just get the exhaust done and get a video of it :D
broke, sounds like you had a pretty uh... interesting night... can't wait to hear the whole story.. maybe you should write a book about it or something.. and how about you find me some of those nice 300zx's on the west end of canada... not as easy as you'd think to find a decent one for under 10k that's a 5 spd

ill try to get this last plug in and fire her up...then replace the other 3 later. im anxious to hear what it soudns like.
i dont have a digital video camera...just a picture camera. so no sound sampling right now.
i got a question...i am going to but a automete tri-pod in my Z32 when i drop the new engine in to keep check on everything. i know im getting a boost guage but what other ones. i was thinking of just getting oil temp and maybe a pyrometer...i dont want an air/fuel because i plan to get a apexi air/fuel controller later down the road and it has a built in guage. i have heard bad things about pyrometers breaking off in the exhaust causing damage...what do you guys think??/

hmmm....i dont think mine does. i will double check...its an older model that i am borrowing from my mother's school, so i dont have a manual or anything.
delerious---i dont think it will. i was afraid of that but the metal bumper comes down and seperate the muffler from the urethane bumper cover. and then the tips dont get very warm, atleast in 10 below weather. if i notice anything, ill have to rig something up.

i was flipping through channels the other day and a movie was just starting...it was a very old movie. probably from the early 80's. anyways, it started with a college kid driving a red 240Z...but then he gets off the highway and enters a town where it starts smoking. and it went on to, where a girl asks him for a ride downtown and she ends up black mailing him out of $50 by saying she is gonna scream rape if he doesnt give her all his money. damn women...always ruining a guys fun in his Z.
on other news, i took my dog out to an open corn field today to play fetch with one of those nerf footballs with the fin on the back. i forget what they are called...
anyways, he is running after the very first throw...a skunk pops up about half way to the ball. well my dog changes courses and chases after the skunk. i think we all know what happened...but ill tell you anyways, he chases the skunk for about 50 ft gaining on it with each stride, finally the skunk stops backs up and sprays all over my dog. on good news, he eventually got the football and brought it back. on bad news, he smells f***ing horrible.
any of you guys know what to use to bathe him in, i was told to use tomato sauce or something. does that work??? im not too familiar with getting rid of skunk...

Got my turbo last night :D
Air Industries T28, that came stock in the Saab 9000 Turbos. Small turbo, so it wont boost to hard, but it will get the job done.
... O and dont get excited, this is for the Civic
So next on the list, is Megan 4-1 Headers, with secondary 2-1 pipe, APEXi S-AFC, Wideband o2 with gauge, Adjustable fuel pressure regulator with gauge, 450cc DSM Injectors, Stock 95 GSX Intercooler, and 'crushed' First Gen DSM Recirculation Valve, and then I'll have to measure out all of the angles for the boost piping, and buy piping at the Home Depot accordingly... Over all Im looking at about $800.
Got the Turbo for free, I just need to take it all apart and buy the rebuild kit ($35) then I'll take a dremel to it, open up some air flow a bit. And then its custom fabrication time.
Whats good about this project is, I can go along the way at seperate times, so I dont have to stop driving the car.
I'll post pics when I start.

I might spare with the rebuild kit, turbos tend not to like being taken apart.
Anyway, I was cleaning some particularly nasty black goo out of my EGR tubing today, mentally calculating how much the still immobile sports car I was sitting next to was costing me, and realized I was happy as shit to be hunched over a bit of carbon covered metal tubing inhaling deadly carb cleaner fumes and turning my hands a decent shade of "Death Black". I am a lost cause now, there is no hope for me. All I can do is try to warn others away from screwing around with cars.
Just don't do it. You want a cheaper, less addictive hobby? Try heroin.
