i have a lot of valve chatter...know what i can do for that?

I noticed a good bit of valve sound when I got out for a quick nature call on the trail. A/C was blasting. When A/C blasting engine gets louder. Also, going up toward Hendersonville across SC/NC state line in 96* weather actually made the Jeep run a bit hotter. I guess the higher RPMs from climbing along with the A/C blasting contributed to that.

I also was a hero and saved the day... posted in Adrian's mud post...

offroading is more expensive IMO...stuff breaks a lot and you always have to have either spare parts or the # of a good towing company

Or just be a good driver, know where to go and only take trail rated vehicles on 4x4 trails... haha. No diss to the LandCruiser. I'm sure it would walk me all day on the highway. I just like going along the trails. Mudding is just stupid if you ask me...

my wife wanted a Jeep Cherokee Lerado(sp) but it was too small in side for, at the time, 3 car seats

i think mudding is a kind of having fun at the end of the day type deal...but you've alway got to be prepard for mud...eveyone got on me for going mudding alone...i'm like i wasn't going mudding...wasn't really any mud, just a big hole in the ground filled in by yesterday's rain...besides that...i really wanted to go down that trail :( ...well not anymore :D

I know what you mean. You have a family. The wife and I go trail "blazing" so it's nice to be alone. This is the first time I've gone all the way down a road of this type... first vehicle I've owned to do it in. You could tell that this road was almost designed for 4x4 because there are almost "stages" to overcome. It's not something I'd do every day that's for sure.

There was one road I attempted in my CRX many years ago... Glade Road. It was basically a residential road that turned into a Jeep road. I went through snow and ice and didn't think to turn around. Then the "dirt road" turned to boulders sticking out of the ground and mountain water trickling down the rock slabs making up the road/trail. I still do not know how I made it across those boulders. I came to a river and had to turn around and go back over the water running over the rocks and boulders. It scared the hell out of me and I don't like to talk about it. I don't think I'd even bring the Jeep there (wouldn't fit in some spots)...

BLU CIVIC
06-25-2007, 04:03 PM
that's the reason we didn't get te Jeep...at the time we had a Cavalier and there was just as much room in the Cavalier as there was in the Jeep...was just a different platform...but if you're going from a 2 door to a 4 door than that is a big difference space wise

Valve job is listed at 6 labor hours worth of work.... so you'd have to multiply 6 by whatever the labor cost of the dealership you take it to... most Toyota dealerships charge between $70 and $80 per labor hour (any more than that, and they're just trying to rip you off)... so somewhere between $420 and $480, not including parts... the shims are cheap, and I'd tell them to replace the valve cover gasket(s) too, which they shouldn't charge any extra for the labor, since they've got to take the valve covers off to get to the valves either way :P

that doesn't seem too bad...will not getting it done affect the life of the engine?

Not seriously.... it can cause heat issues (excessive play produces more heat) and it can become a performance issue once valve play starts getting really sloppy..... nothing is going to just all the sudden break because of it though.

Valve service is usually wrapped in with the service periods though... like when you get your timing belt and water pump changed, the dealership usually tries to up sale you on stuff like the valve adjustment and throttle body cleaning and stuff like that.

my car is officially a paper weight. We're getting a dumpster tomorrow, so I had to move my car on the lawn. Well that job was a lot easier said than done. I figured it would start right up and it would take 2 seconds. Problem #1; seized alternator. As soon as I start it, there is a high pitch whine and the car stalls. I didn't even need to pop the hood to know exactly what was wrong. Problem #2; hood won't close properly. The locking mechanism is stuck shut, so when I slam the hood it just hits that part. Some wd-40 and a screw driver will fix that tomorrow. Problem #3; damn rear wheels were froze up. I knew my rear brakes were gone and sticky, so I didn't leave the car sitting with the e-brake on, but they froze anyways. My brother took the sledge hammer with him, so we didn't have it to free them up. But after searching my basement, found the old mini-sledge. My parents were trying to tell me that I had to jack up the tire and remove it, to hit it and then free them up; but I knew better. 3-4 good wacks on the rims and hubs, and those bad boys broke free. My mom was shocked that I would hit any part of my car like that haha

Ha! I'd prefer yard work any day to living in an apartment with neighbors right next to me. Yes, I like my privacy, my long term debt and equity... haha... However, I do not like the goddamn magnolia trees lurking in the nearby yards. I raked them up yesterday but usually I just take the leaf blower and blow them back into the neighbors yard. Can't get that kind of satisfaction in an apartment complex except for maybe banging on the wall when Julio and his mistress are doing the chachacha while you're trying to watch a movie... LOL

By my previous thread I meant the leaves not the trees themselves. Hard to rake a tree ya know... haha

It's weird about apartments. In G-ville, there are some really snazzy places but they're all on one stretch of road in the business district or near there. Condos/Apartments/Condos/Apartments. Then there are a few older places on the way to work nearing an older business district. There is a really nice apartment/condo complex right across from low income apartments with what looks like a seedy hood. I just can't see living in a decent apartment complex (even with a gate) directly across the street from welfare central where crackheads are lurking 24/7. Why they put those sweet apartments right there I'll never know (near the community college). There is another old huge apartment complex adjacent to these. Call me a wuss but I prefer the safety of the burbs...

i am lucky to be in a house and not an apt. the previous owners of our house had sod installed and then let it die. never pruned the roses which turned into trees (LoL). didn't trim back the trees. so i'm trying to kick a little @ss and whip it back into shape. i almost forgot, the metal handrail was primed and never painted so it was starting to rust. we're painting that back too. after i get done with all of it maybe i'll take some pics.

i read a really bad review of it. said it was hard to type on, no good software for business people, the platform it's running (i forget what it's called) is difficult for programmers to program with. the internet is slow which has forced the future addition of wi-fi. i was bummed after i read it...i expected more i guess :dunno:

i planeted so many damed flowers yesterday. i'm sure when my neighbors got home they were scratching their heads, LoL. i planted dianthus "floral lace crimson" in pots on the stairs. i planted lobelia "cambridge blue" and alyssum "snow crystals" on the outside edge of the planter and planted petunia (mixed white, purple, pink, red) and painted daisies (same colors) in seed form in the middle of the planter. they should pop up on 7-10 days. for those with too much time on their hands they can look those flowers up

My mom hasn't planted flowers in 2-3 years, but this year she decided to buy like $60 worth of flowers, so our whole back deck has flowers all over it now ready to be planted.
