The forester isn't really much bigger than the wagon. I like the wagon but prefer an STi sans the Star Wars wing. My wife loves scoobies probably because the turbo and awd and the fact they're based on Rally car platforms. But being that we know a great VW mechanic I think I'd rather keep the 1.8t approaching 200k...

so i will be looking for a good shop(hint hint DOWN TO GROUND) to swap in an engine and if they are interested build it. i'll be going on cruise soon so i will be coming back with bookoo(sp) money.

Then the truck show is the same every frickin week "We're gonna raise the ride height about 4 inches to give it a meaner stance then we'll install a new exhaust and tune the ECU to get max performance..." :shakehead

Are you going with an OEM rebuild or an aftermarket build? If you're going aftermarket and don't plan to replace the sleeves, make sure you get pistons that are compatible with the stock sleeves (since they are made of different material than regular sleeves).

so it got slow at work today, and since i had read all the tuner mags already, i was flipping through the muscle car mags. and on the cover of one was a heading "7 Reader rides for under $25k". the $25k included everything, car, engine, exterior, etc
and most of them where just under $25k, so it got me started thinking, what could i do to a crx/hatch for that much cash.
i mean...that enough for a built K swap, boost, full suspension, couple CF panels for even less weight, plenty of JDM goodness, some decent rims....maybe a few bucks left over.
how do muscle cars cost so much? just casue they're older? supply and demand? muscle fans have money coming out the wazoo?

Drove a CRX with a B18B swap today... not impressed in the least... it may have been quicker off the line, but I swear in the long run my car would overtake it as it sits right now... So that swap option has gone out the window.
Seriously considering sticking with a Dseries engine and building a D16Y8 and holding out with that until such time that I have an extra form of transportation and can make an attempt at a Kseries swap into my CRX (may be a few years).

the funny part is i traded off the daily driver for a civic with no back seat and the other daily driver is a sol...the only reason we've been geeting out the red civic is when the 3 of us need to go somewhere. the other day when we got pulled over we were taking the daughter & her friend to a childrens learning fair. today it was on our way home from helping on her school field trip from 8:45am-1:45pm at the safety fair with the local fire, police, & forrestry services.

you know me, i'm all about the d. y8 vs b18b will come down to mods & drivers. i have to argue...it won't be so close a6 vs b18b.
the pro of the d is it's cheaper to build, the pro of the b is full potential hp. which is better? it comes down to driver preference.

After Taking my car to the track again and having it be miserably slow and just plain pissing me off. I think im done with the b16. I found a hatch I may pick up for 500, and I could swap all my parts. But im seriously worried about putting my b16 into another car and having it be a crapbag just like it is now. It may be burning oil now, and i have yet to check the compression but I have a feeling it is lacking. So if I rebuild it then I would want to use better parts, and if I rebuild it then I might as well just build a damn LSVtec, or even a B20/vtec.

Maybe there was something wrong with this guys motor or something, but I seriously expected it to be significantly faster than my car, and it just wasn't.
And I know there's a big difference between B18B and B18C5, but I'm starting to feel like if I'm going to drop that much money on a swap, I may as well go a little bit further and try the K20 thing....
But in the mean time, I can pick up a D16Y8 for a couple hundred $$$, replace the bearings in my Si tranny, maybe add LSD to it, and be satisfied for a good long while, and still be pretty quick for a fraction of the price.

here's my thing if you want it for now and plan to go k in the future, that is a perfect plan. if you think you want an ls/vtec or c5 in the future than i would start out with the b18b. the beauty of the b series is once you get the mounts & linkage you can play mix & match the b series.

I use Lithium white grease on most of the parts... it doesn't dry up and is water resistant.... you could also use a silicone based lube, and that should do you good.... only problem is silicone lubes have a tendency to melt away in the summer heat...... make sure you clean out the tracks as good as you can before you lube anything up.
