Good read

http://www.urbanracer.com/articles/anmviewer.asp?a=2320&z=41

A couple good quotes...

"it has morphed into a marketing circus that has grown unchecked like a fat kid eating Bojangles" in reference to SEMA

"although the second generation IS sedan has quickly become a favorite of second generation Asian yuppies and kids cruising for boba late at night, there is simply no comparison to the magnificent BMW 3 Series." I agree

huh?

snow? i'm in the desert. how is the snow? look good?
I had 6-7 inches of it pilled on top of my car. With that kind of snow, I don't dare use a puny snow brush (and get a snow covered arm, all the way to my elbow), I go for a broom. Driving in a straight line isn't too bad. But if you stop at a light, stop sign, or take a corner, and go; your car slides all over.

But you know what the worst part is? The same jackasses year after year, who have lived in this area for their whole lives, seem to forget all at once how to drive. Simple things like; "I should probably stay in my own lane, even though I can't see the lines on the road that I've been driving on since I was a teenager, so I know where it is", "I've been parking in this parking lot every day for years, so I know where the parking space is even though I can't see the lines", "I should probably just go the speed limit because there is very little snow on the roads." BUT NOOOOOOOOO! These f***ing morons don't do that. They drive into the other lanes cause their too scared to drive on the side of the road (even when they know where the f*** it is). You just have to see the parking situations when snows on the ground, I refer to it as "creative parking". People will park anywhere, in between lines (which is good obviously), or they'll park with 1 half of the car on 1 parking space and the other in another space. Then there are the jackasses who don't know what the f*** to do when the snow comes. They go 10-15mph under the speed limit just because there are a few small chunks of snow IN THE MIDDLE OF A LANE (where no one should be driving unless they're one of those people who move over into the next lane over). Oh, did I mention they like to drive that slow in the fast lane, just to hold up traffic.

Then there's the whole physically dealing with snow. When you brush it off the car, it goes everywhere. With the first 2 pushes of snow today, the wind blew it ALL right back in my face. Unless you have highwaters on, the bottom of your pants will be soaked for a few hours, while the collected snow melts off them (or I should say melts ON them). You have to warm your car up for at least 10-15 minutes, just to get the last bit of ice that is attached to your window, so you can actually see a little bit of the road. Driving in it late at night in the dark is always fun :shakehead , it looks like you're in Star Wars with all the snow shooting towards your windshield. Especially when it's a white out and the only reason you're still on the road is because you can faintly see the tail lights of the car 20ft in front of you. And it's F***ING COLD!

I can't stand people who say "I love snow, it's so beautiful." F***ing say that sh*t in front of me and I'll slice you f***ing throat with one of my many ice scrapers that I have to keep in my car.

Civicspoon, you live in one of the most snowed upon areas of the US. It sounds like you don't like it too much. I remember when I drove my CRX to NJ almost exactly a year ago and it snowed while I was there. I was driving from my friend's place to have supper at my brother's house. The snow had stopped so I figured it was manageable. My car didn't take to stopping at stop signs too well though. Good thing for the fact that I had been used to whipping my car around and breaking traction (although when you don't do it on purpose it's kind of scary) and also for the fact that there weren't many other people driving around... haha. Snow is pretty and all that but being in it is just not for me...

We had a Bojangles in Clemson for less than half a year and it closed up. This was back in like 1995 or something. The building is still there probably a rat hotel. They just built a Sonic right on the main corner in Clemson though. The employees park their cars in the vacant Conoco gas station across the street on the other corner (right next to the old Bojangles building). Supposedly, they're going to tear down this old Hardware place to build a new retail center in Clemson with all sorts of fancy architecture. They should start "revitalizing" at the location of the old Conoco and Bojangles. BTW, Clemson is primarily an Engineering school and it's been under construction since it's inception. CU actually stands for Construction University. I got my BA and MA there but in Arts and Humanities. I know it's not the greatest school to get degrees in that area, but I liked checking out all the chicks in those classes. Yeah, I went to college to check out hot chicks. It's also a decent skate spot. One thing about college towns is people generally don't follow the rules and think they can get away with whatever they want. Maybe that's why I've lived around here for so long... haha.

I tried snowboarding once in the Poconos like 8 years ago. It was -10* on the mountain and although I only wiped out once, I needed oxygen at the medical station because of shortness of breath. We had night time lift tickets but I got a renewable ticket for another day, but since I lived in SC I traded it to my friend for Final Fantasy I think.

I'm going skateboarding later at the NewGen skatepark http://www.newgenonline.com. If you click on the link, in the picture, the guy in the foreground with the really long hair in a pony tail in the black adidas windbreaker facing the other way is me. I've been skating on and off for 20 years but I still pretty much suck... haha. The park is cool but there are always too many damn little kids there. It's like a new babysitting service. When we show up there are like 3 cars in the lot but the place will be packed. Needless to say, they get in the way. But it's nice to know that I am better than most of them so I feel better about skating. My friend who goes with me is 5 years younger than me and better at it than me but he still gets hurt too. I don't think I'd go by myself. Plus, I'm the oldest person skating... except when Lance Mountain showed up at the demo. I think he's like 40 or something... haha

our old house was on a hill. we got the kid a plastic snowboard. she makes 3 runs down the hill without falling :dunno: so i decided to get her a real board. it was extremely hard to find a board her size without skulls, flames, and demons. Liquid was the only brand i could find.

the teens make little jumps and ramps up to picinic tables at the local park. she hits the jumps and tries the table. last winter she was trying 180's off the jumps. of course it scares me. but what can i do. tell her don't be a kid....don't you dare go have fun :shakehead

Thats neat you skate. My brother is sponsors by a skate company called TSX. He has been skating since he was a baby, he is 14 now and is some sort great skater. I went to the skatepark a few times its real fun down there. I broke my wrist one yea after skating for about 3 years and then gave it up. Took up snowboarding and have been doing that for the last 9 years. The Poconos is a good time spend many a drunk nights there after boarding down at Camelback.

Your Daughter reminds me of those people on the slopes with there little children who are like amazing and only 3 feet tall lol..I am amazed by some of these parents taking there kids to do I'd be afraid. But kids will be kids maybe one day your daughter can be sponsored by Downtoground :p

If I snowboarded I'm sure I'd like snow a lot more, but I have horrible balance so I don't even try. I tried cross country skiing once...fell down within the first minute and couldn't get back up until I took the skies off. Surfing for internet porn without my popup blocker on, now that's an extreme sport for me :D

turtlecrxsi
01-11-2007, 01:41 PM
I found that snowboarding is a lot more different than skateboarding. Balance is much more difficult and you have to go side to side to slow down... which is sorta like downhill skateboarding... something I don't like at all. I got 30 stitches in my chin when I was a teenager from downhill skating. I think I'd rather try ollieing down a 10 stair set before going down a hill...

My parents bought me a t-shirt that says "Can't Sleep Clowns Will Eat Me", because I use to have a sticker on my oldsmobile that said that (and I'm an insomniac, it's 4am right now). So the last time I wore it I had a dream about an evil clown who was trying to kill me. He was a cross between one of the clowns on Killer Klowns From Outer Space, and the clown from IT. Damn I hate clowns. I never did trust that Ronald McDonald...plastic hair child molester freak.

I guess you wouldn't like my Korn t-shirt with the the evil cartoon clown on it holding a board with a nail in it. I've never seen a duplicate of that t-shirt and I've had it for 10 years.

Well, I'm alive after my skateboarding episode at the park. I swear they added too damn much to the park. It's like ramp after ramp. My first attempt at the double 3 stair set yielded me busting my ass and smacking my head. Good thing I was wearing my helmet. The floor was super slippery. However, I did land it and ride away. Yeh for me. When me and my friend were trying to ollie the pyramid in the middle these little kids kept getting in the way. I almost decapitated one kid when I jumped off my board in mid-air and it flew at him. I got so mad I threw my helmet. Damn kids... go do your homework! The sad part is that there weren't even that many people there. I much prefer street skating...
