Yes, I was bored and just being dumb last night. And honestly I'm not positive how many beers I had. But I got light beer because it goes down a lot easier, almost like water.
*Here's a long rant about my car's body work issues, so skip to the next post unless you're really bored*
But today is a major freaking bummer. I got home after going to see my grandmother and decided to check the rust issue with my car a little more (since it's been sitting in my driveway for a few months now, untouched). I knew that when I bought the car it had a speck of honda rust on the rear quarter where the rear bumper meets it, and that it's gotten progressively worse as the years have gone by (driving on salted roads in the winter doesn't help). But I found out some info I wasn't prepared for. Close up I can see some rust where the paint chipped off, and a tiny bubble in the paint a few MM's above it, as well as the wheel well area lip (that people usually "roll" to put bigger wheels on). Well after a little poking around... the whole rear quarter panel is toast. I pushed on the area where there didn't appear to be rust and I could feel and hear it cracking inward. I have been planning on replacing the area that was rusted, with a new panel by cutting out part of the old and welding in a new one, but now I'm going to have to cut a hell of a lot more. I'm also assuming the worst, that the rust has gone very deep. Hopefully I'll get some $ in the near future and be able to fix it before I'm completely S.O.L. But even then I'll have to have $ enough to paint the whole car, because the paint is all F'd up to begin with. Thinking about doing a semi/low gloss black, possibly John Deer's paint, and just rattle can the interior black with rustoleum (I'll keep the full interior so it'll be hidden anyways). While I do that I figure I might as well remove the sound proofing crap and relocate the engine bay fuse box to an area under my dash, since I'll have to take my dash out to get at the firewall. But it'll still look dumb having a flat black car with a red engine bay, at least until I have even more $ for a swap. Not like I show my car off anyways.

I forgot to mention something else that happened today, something that might actually be worth reading. His landlord bought a new mitsu evo 9 when they first came out, traded in his evo 8 for it. He pulled the engine out with 36 miles on it, and had it built/stroked by Buscher racing. Unfortunately there were some catastrophic engine failures and the engine needed to be rebuild. He finally go the thing back recently (possibly this weekend), and it's all tuned and ready to go. He took my friend for a ride in it today, and he just had to call me about it. Thing puts out somewhere around 550 whp and 440 tq. Now, my friend is a crazy mo fo and I've been in the car with him going 146+ mph (speedometer maxed out and obviously isn't that accurate), and had the brakes give out. But he said that he nearly sh*t his pants and had to tell his landlord to slow down when he was just babying it in 3rd gear. He said I'll have to get a ride in it sometime soon...I'll make sure to wear my depends, unless my pants start talking back to me again.

CivicSpoon, just cut the rusted panel off and weld in a new panel from a junked car or just buy some sheet metal from Lowes. Then prime and paint it red and repaint your car red. Do you really want to deal with all that headache of painting your whole car a different color? Also, your car will be worth more if you don't go ripping stuff out and putting it back in. It's amazing how many people neglect that. But it's your car, dude so you know do what you gotta do...
CivicSpoon

The plan is to buy one of those panels on e-bay or http://www.rustrepair.com/, and then cut out the old and weld in the new. And I'd love to just prep and paint that part red, but the rest of the car needs paint bad. The upper part where the rear side window and hatch meet is peeling really bad, because the car was repainted before I got the car. And the roof is a complete mess; right where the roof meets the windshield is completely faded, as well as some minor chips and dings that have started to rust (one on the door and a couple on the hood). And I highly doubt I'd be able to match the panel to the rest of the car because it's Milano Red, and has the tinted clear coat. If I have time today or tomorrow I'll take some pics and show you what I mean, it will definently give you a better idea of what I'm talking about than my horrible description. But I do understand what you're saying. It will cost a lot more to have the entire car color changed; in both time and $. But the rest of the car is mint. If it's on the lift and I take the wheels off, you could literally eat off the inner wheel wells/ suspension.
turtlecrxsi
05-07-2007, 03:41 PM
I meant prep it and paint the whole car. Even if you sand off the peeling paint and repair some of those rust spots and chips you're probably better off repainting the whole car Milano Red. :bigthumb:

Ohhh I gotcha. Sorry, I suffer from occasional dislexia. I can read something 5 times in 1 sitting and read it 1 way, but go back and read it later and read it a different way.
There are a few issues with repainting it milano red again. First is the cost of red paint. I was going to go with the john deer flat black because it's apparently a lot cheaper than most other paint, and I like the flat black look. But if I repainted it red, I'd go with Roma Red instead. I saw a crx in a magazine that was roma red and it was sexy as hell.
But just for sh*ts and giggles I'll post some pics of the damage. This is what happens when you neglect a problem for a few years and don't wash and wax your car more than once every year or 2. WARNING: pretty big pics.
The spot on the left is where it first started, and it has gotten progressively worse:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/CivicSpoon/DSCN0136.jpg
The lip of the wheel well. That gray putty looking stuff above the lip is the tape stuff that was used to stick the optional guard stips on. All those things did was make the car look stupid and keep the water in that area when it got wet. Inside wheel wells need a good hosing down.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/CivicSpoon/DSCN0140.jpg
This is where the paint is peeling. Notice the lighter red/pink color that is below the (tinted) clear coat.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/CivicSpoon/DSCN0141.jpg
Here is where the paint has faded on the roof. This is just the front next to the windshield, there's more of this at the back by the spoiler, and on the drivers side as well.

I wish my CRX had those body issues. It makes me sad to think about it. I had to pretty much cut the whole rear quarter out from the door jam up to the gas fill door to the rear bumper and fab up (best I could with what I had) a new rear quarter panel. I used sheet metal from Lowes and bondo. I rivited the sheet metal into place (no welder) and bondoed over it. Also, I pretty much cut the whole side rocker out from where the main relay is located to the rear wheel. It was one big hollow space until I fitted the plastic side skirt back into place and rivited it to the body pieces that still existed. I was surprised at how tight it held. There is no way stock plastic screws would've worked again. Talk about weight reduction. Anyway, like I said, it saddens me to think about it...

Looked no worse than a cheaply molded body kit until the primer flaked off... oh shell...
Don't even get me started on the sunroof... ugh.

I like the 99-00 Si but finding a stock one near me is virtually impossible and they hold their value very well near me so it's tough.
There is something just bizarre about the 02-04 Si that I just can't see myself in.
