I'm sorry you feel that way about Sony. I've owned plenty of Sony products without issue. I have had a Sony Cassette player in 2 cars (long time ago) and it is now installed in my father's Le Baron (he only uses cassettes) and it still works. I've owned my Sony stereo (last of the old big rack systems/pre-"shelf" system) since 1996. I bought a 5 year warranty to go with it and never needed it. I just recently upgraded the speakers from the old paper tower speakers and surround sound speakers to the new Kevlar 8" towers (downsized from 10") and Kevlar surround sound components including center channel. They are grossly underpowered now but that is soon to change. Anyway, I was going to sell the old speakers but decided that when I buy my new Sony amp and CD/DVD player that the old stereo will be going in the bedroom along with the old speakers.

damn am I pissed. I went and picked up my ps2 a little while ago. The guy said that the problem was caused by "smoke damage" and that everything was gunked up. I immediately went home and tried 2 games that didn't work previously; Socom CA and Bully. Socom did the same thing it did before, it would load until it showed the game logo, and then went straight to the PS window with the 2 memory cards and the disk. I could play Bully for a short period of time, and then it froze up, quicker than it did before I had it "fixed". So I brought it back with both games (he said all his games worked on it). So now I'm going to have to wait until at least friday or saturday to find out if he can fix it. All he could say was "but I bet you didn't hear any clicking this time did you". No I didn't hear any damn clicking this time, because I can't play the freaking games! And he said he hopes it just needs some minor tweaking (laser height I'm assuming) and that the clicking didn't damage the laser or something like that. So all this guy did was clean it, and lube the metal track/bar that the laser slides on. I'm not holding my breath though, because when I walked up to the store, someone had smashed the front glass door... disgruntled customer who had to buy a new PS2 after this guy couldn't fix the PS2 he sold him??? My dad bought this for me as an early x-mas gift of sorts and got it fixed as an early b-day gift of sorts, so if it's unfixable he better get a full refund or at least a refurbished slim PS2 for the price he paid for it and the "fix". That or his door will be completely shattered...

I just got an HP I ordered from them online, core 2 processor and 2 gigs of ram, go7400 graphics..and it figures that its far more powerful than my gaming rig. I havent turned on my desktop since I got this thing, its soooo great. I love HP computers, even though I prefer to build my own, a lappy is not the place you want to do that. But my core 2 desktop will be finished quite soon, just need some good DDR2 Ram

Forgot to mention. Just got one for x-mas too. Did I also mention that I got a Sony mini-DVD handy-cam with a Carl Zeiss lens and travel bag too... :grinyes:
If I had that much trouble with my PS2 I would just get a new one. Even though I don't play games really I have the remote control and all that. But hell, I'd probably get a nice Sony DVD player first and worry about getting the PS2 fixed at some later time.

recording to dvds is dumb..minidv is the shit for editing cuz it records in binary..just like your computer!! those mini dvds just complicate everything. i dont think they have a specific player for them either. its been a while, havent worked at best buy in over a year, i used to sell cameras and camcorders, but i havent checked any out lately. the zeiss lens are sweet tho. in my video class here at college, my professor just has us use our cameras video function cuz they are great for uploading movies to the web.

That's why I want to just play the mini-DVs straight outright. When using the Sony handy-cam the menu states whether you would like to format the disc for editing on your computer or just run it as is or whatever on the handy-cam. For right now, I'm just running it as is until I figure out everything on the computer. The wife is looking into all that stuff. So basically, I haven't seen what I've filmed yet, but I haven't filmed very much...

This is my second PS2. 1st one had the read disk error so I couldn't get the files for my network adapter (didn't realize some games had the config files included). So I took it apart and F'd it up big time, it's still in a pile on my floor. Then I got this refurb'd one about 6 months ago. That's why I'm so mad it hasn't lasted long.

I actually do sell cameras and camcorders at best buy right now. You can play those mini-dvds in most dvd players, look closely at the tray and youll see a smaller inset ring that holds the disc...HOWEVER, mini dvd is the lowest quality recording you can get, the reasoning behind this is the lower data transfer rate and mpeg2 compression. Mini dv is the best quality having about 5-6 times the transfer rate to tape, and no compression (pure digital signal). Those dvds also only record for 30 mins and can be a bitch to get onto your computer, in most cases you have to rip it just like a dvd movie, the sony discs (and cameras themselves) are a little pickier.
Yes i think the sony camcorders are the best on the market right now, but dear god go mini DV, or hard drive..which are my favorite for editing. However camcorders are the only area that id recommend Sony, they are still produced in japan like they should be. All of the digital cameras (including their Alpha 100 SLR piece of crap) are made in China now, and you can tell the difference. They break if you sneeze at them, and have shoddy workmanship all around. The reason? The ps3 required alot of production space that Sony needed, so they sent all camera production to China, and ever since then they have been flimsy loose fitting garbage.

CivicSpoon

Sprint is good about trying to keep customers. You just tell them that you are ready to change to a different company and they will give you discounts. If that doesn't work, hang up and call back to get someone else on the phone and try it again. I used to work at best buy where we had Cingular (who I worked for), Sprint and T-mobile. The Sprint rep got his bill down to $20 a month from $40 by doing that, think he even got some free text messaging too.
