Have to register all existing assault rifles with local Sheriff office to be "grandfathered" in, have to sell magazines bigger than 7 rounds to people in other states within a year, have to pass a background check to buy ammunition, can't purchase assault rifles online, & can't have a pistol grip on it (even when some come with them ?)..

Absolute bullshit. This will do nothing to stop these horrible crimes. Criminals either already have weapons, that the government & law enforcement don't and will never know about, or can easily get them from others. If I really wanted to, and had the $, I could purchase an illegal gun by the end of this weekend. It'll be more expensive, but it will be untraceable (aka won't have any serial numbers left on it). Mostly, it's because of NYC anyways, and the rest of the State has to be punished for it. But worst of all, it was done in a backroom deal between politicians. These assholes can't balance a budget for the past 10 years or so, but they can pass a law withing 14 hours?! Now to find a way to make illegal MMA a horrible crime, so it can actually get legalized in NYS...

There are good points to the bill though, but I'm not so sure they even need to be changed or added on a State level. Obviously the Federal Government is going to have their own laws very soon, that should take care of these things (but it is our Government, so they might not be so smart). Stuff like purchasing firearms for others who aren't legally allowed to own them, ensuring mentally ill people can't get guns (including proper storage of them in a shared home), re-certify every 5 years or less to show you can use a pistol or assault rifle (via safety course I'm assuming).

For full disclosure, I'm not even a firearm owner. I don't own any hand guns, assault rifles, hunting rifles, or even a shotgun. If I had the money, I would be though. Guns are fun to shoot, I've shot multiple AK-47's, AK-74's, AR-15's, and various assault rifles & hand guns that I don't even remember what they were. It's fun to go to a shooting range, or my friend's backyard in the country, and try to hit some long distant targets. Hell, I know a guy (use to be close friends with) that owns a gun store here locally. He told a mutual friend today that his business is officially closed as of this morning (the law was passed around 2PM EST as far as I'm aware). He went from selling out entirely of what he had in stock, within the week following the Connecticut shooting, to having to close his business of a year & a half. It's not even that I feel bad for him, because he has other non-associated businesses, but he has employees. On an even bigger scale, Remington Arms has far more employees, who are going to be screwed over this new bill. All because some mentally ill shit head, did a horrible crime, with their firearm. Ridiculous.

Ok I think I'm done ranting for the night. This shit is just so stupid and unreasonable, it just pisses me off.

That's always the main point I get back to in gun control debates. Like drugs, just cause they're illegal doesn't mean people don't know how to get them if they want them. Although there are enough cases of irresponsible legal gun owners that could support gun control laws, I still think the majority of premeditated crimes committed with guns are with unregistered weapons.

I am a gun owner and I can tell you that people need to be writing/emailing their respective congressmen, otherwise laws like these will keep getting passed.

I understand what you're saying, but the problem is that when I have some money saved up, I absolutely intended to purchase an "assault" rifle. At this point, it's not going to be possible, unless I settle for something far more tame. Realistically, the magazine thing and pistol grips are my biggest problem. Everything else in the law I'm ok with, but not happy about. Magazine count really is more of a major pain in the ass than anything, in all honestly. The pistol grip thing on the other hand is horrible. Pistol grips stabilize the gun so much better than a simple stock does. I'm assuming that's probably why it's now illegal.

But as of now, it seems that no one really understands what the new laws entail, or even when they are going to take effect. I've heard 90 days for some laws, and 13 months for others. And now the local County Sheriff has no clue if the law will even be upheld, or who will take care of the registrations, etc. He claims they don't have the funds or manpower to take care of such things.

LOL very true. I don't think I've ever not cut my hand up when doing an engine swap or even a clutch job. Hell, forget removing/installing engines & transmissions, I think the damn alternators are probably the worst. They pretty much guarantee a few cuts. My friend and I joke that for each cut that bleeds, we will charge the customer an extra $20. That usually adds up to around $100 after it's all done, between the both of us. :tongue:

Pfffft you cut your hands doing real jobs on Hondas. Most complicated thing I ever did was take the interior all apart or maybe installing CAI on the Accord but with every job was a few ounces of lost blood. Usually my lacerations came from trying to wedge my hand into some tiny crease in the construction to get at a screw or something.

I'm honestly not surprised one bit by the findings. I always had more luck slamming the cartridge in, but more importantly slamming it down once it was in. For me, there was a kind of "feel" to the way I had to do it. There was certain tension to it, where it felt like the cartridge was physically being scraped against the side or something. Hard to explain I guess. But I'm sure the way I did it likely damaged it just as much, or more, than blowing into it.

^Nope I know exactly what you mean. I used to use the blow method but eventually learned to finesse the connection into success. I do the same now with Super Smash Bros which still gets played on the regular on my N64
