Hey this is a private chat room!!!! jk I did #3 and then #1
I briefly considered trying to "fight the power" but I doubt my efforts would reslut in the ticket being thrown out since I really was facing the wrong way on a street. (pulled into a parking lot onthe corner to wait for my friend in another car and then pulled out the way I came.... not realizing it was a one way since there were no cars parked on the street)
Plus, I can clearly envision me going to court to fight it and even if I won the battle for $75 vs $120 I would then be on the hook for the $110 in court costs that are standard for the county. Sadly, I've been through that courthouse more times than I would care to admit and am quite familliar with how they do business. :shakehead

So I was just searching for a service manual for a 2011 Subaru WRX (no luck so far) online, and came across a partial manual for the new 2013 Subaru BRZ (Scion FR-S). I'd recommend anyone reading, to NOT purchase this vehicle. I've never driven the car, never seen the car in person, never read any real world reviews of the car, don't have any personal problems with Subaru or Toyota, the car looks nice, and it's an interesting collaboration. Why, do you ask, that I say not to buy the car?
You have to remove the air filter box and tubing, remove the plugs for both O2 sensors, remove 3 plastic under panels under the car, disconnect part of the exhaust, remove part of the exhaust manifold, disconnect the engine mounts from the cross member so you can lift the engine, unbolt a bit of the engine harness, remove the injector control module, and remove the coil packs all to...
Change the damn spark plugs. No. I am not joking.

Damn. I've been really interested in the brz, but I can see it being one of the next big rice cars and I just cant let myself do that to myself.
On a side note, TriMet (portland public transit) is increasing rates again, and getting rid of transfers and zones... which means for my 3 mile ride downtown to work will cost *drum roll* $5 a day! That almost a dollar a mile (for round trip). Yet they advertise "to be as efficient as TriMet you would have to fit 11 people into your compact car" .... I think not, I think not. They are also ditching the current system where your ticket is good for transfers for 2 hours, under the new system your ticket will have a barcode on it, and while you can still transfer you can only travel away from your point of orgin, IE if you pay $2.50 and go 2 blocks down the street, in order to come back you have to pay another $2.50. Sadly, the other option is to drive downtown, and to park in my building costs $12 a day soooo... what can you do? A lot of people here bike... but being a big guy and trying to bike to work in semi professional clothing without getting drenched in sweat would be difficult. And seeing as it rains for 10 months straight, rain coat would block out the rain, and lock in the sweat.... MMMmmmmm call me Daniel the Schaweaty jeweler.
The other option is that some parking garages downtown offer spots for motorcycles at a discounted rate, especially if you pay by the month... sooo as of right now, I'm looking at probably getting a motorcycle before getting a car. Which isnt necessarily a bad thing as I've wanted a bike for a while, but seeing as I've never actually ridden a bike, I'll have to take a training course, and try to learn enough about motorcycles not to get ripped off when I buy one.
What to do, what to do.

Sometimes I wish I didn't own a car. I would have an extra $600 a month at least. I was about to get a bike but Chicago winter means I could only ride for 7 months a year.
Sounds like Portland public transit is using the same "customer be damned" policy as the CTA. My trip to the city costs me $9 daily for train and parking in their lot. Other option is to drive 40 miles into the city and then pay $6 in the discount parking lot. I can only imagine how much worse it would be if Chicago had gotten the Olympics

On a different note... I'm on the energy drink wagon again :/ I had gotten off them for a while.... then I took a trip a few weeks ago and was jet lagged and grabbed one at the airport.... now I'm back to my 2 a day habit. Had a Monster "ubermonster energy brew" last night and even with my tolerance this thing made me jittery wired. I really need to get off these again, caffeine is addictive like a mofo lol
CivicSpoon

I've never even tried an energy drink before (other than Sparks, but that's just a fake ass energy drink with alcohol). I'm afraid I'd have a heart attack if I drank one. I took a caffeine pill once in high school, and had to go to the nurses office, because my heart was pounding so hard. After that I didn't have a problem with caffeine in general, even getting up to drinking 2 liter of Mountain Dew and a 12-oz can of coke in a day, every day for almost a year. Now if I drink a 1-liter bottle of Mountain Dew in a 4 hour period, I get all jittery, or if I drink a caffeinated soda past 8pm, I'm up until 3am. Getting old has turned me in to a bitch :crying:
Caffeine is insanely addictive. I tried quitting smoking once (well...one of the times I tried) as well as quitting caffeine/sodas on the same day. Stupid ass idea on my part :D. By 6pm I was smoking a cigarette in between sips of coke.

There are two girls at my office who are nice as can be (unless they hate you) but are wayyy addicted to caffeine. I'm talkking about a mega Starbucks drink before 9 then a liter of Mountain Dew by 10:30, maybe a HyDrive with lunch, another trip to Starbucks in the afternoon, and probably another round of Mountain Dew before they leave. No exaggeration there.
You can always tell where they are in their caffeination cycle by their demeanor. When I go visit them (they sit right next to each other) I can tell in seconds how much caffeine is in the system. It really makes for some pretty big mood swings and one girl suffers from chronic migraines which I've suggested numerous times are fueled by the amount of caffeine she consumes in a day.
I feel pretty lucky that my body will acclimate to whatever time I need to wake up as long as I'm consistent. I was once a 3 coffee a day guy (regular 12 oz black cheap ish from a machine) and later changed to tea in hopes of not destroying my body as quickly, and now I just pound water all day and let the call of the wild keep me awake. Funny that I worry so much about the caffeine killing me but I smoke like a chimney on the weekends

Its not so much the caffeine that worries me, people have been consuming caffeine for thousands of years, but all this other chemical crap that goes into these things. Its like I don't even drink it for the energy anymore, its more of just a habit I think, because on the weekends when I'm off work and not walking past a convenience store I don't drink them. I'm trying to phase them out with Gatorade but that has just as much sugar, I drink water (or beer) at home because I never buy soft drinks or anything like that. All this talk of Mountain Dew makes me think these people are all gamers haha
00accord44
08-20-2012, 06:54 PM
I don't know if this is a regional thing but there are way more people in the offices I've worked that use the Dew as their preferred energy drink.... most of them not gamers. Maybe I just notice more because I was scarred at a young age.
About 7th grade, me and my friend were in a store buying Mountain Dew and some other sugary crap when an older guy, probably mid twenties, says "you boys know about Mountain Dew right??? ...it shrinks your stuff"
I didn't touch the stuff for at least a decade after that and I doubt my buddy did either. Really I think a couple weekends ago was probably the first time I drank it since that incident 16 years ago

Wonder how many thousands more young guys they would have had as loyal addicts if there weren't rumors of shrinkage. You could get young boys to drop just about any habit if you tell them their "junk" is at risk.
Even though I think it really is true that one of the dyes they use lowers sperm count or something... but that rumor could have the reverse effect when the Dew becomes the world's best selling and least effective birth control method

Glad I'm not a vegetarian or vegan; wonder how many of them starved to death that year. Oh yeah...vegetarians and vegans are mostly hippies, so they grow their own food (among other things). It was by far the worst road trip Ive ever been a part of. $1100 later, my sisters Civic is up and running with a working A/C compressor. The gears inside seized, which caused the alternator belt to snap after a few hundred miles of highway driving... hence the death of electronics as I drove it. I'm just glad we were able to keep the engine running despite having minimal battery power.
If you should ever find yourself so unlucky as to be on the Ohio turnpike near Exit 13, I suggest you look for Hutch's (service shop). Its exact address is "behind the Marathon station across from the Ramada".... and it needs to be hit with a flurry of RPGs.

Got em off with no problem, but soon realized that the Ford Taurus is not as user friendly as my Accord seeing as how you cannot mount the new brake pads without a compressor. So I let out a flurry of curses, went in the house looking for beer, found none, kicked the living ish out of the kitchen garbage can, and slapped the old pads back on.
Lesson learned: never leave your buddies in the house with all the beer

For some reason I decided to watch BigBrother After Dark for the last 2 hours. Ive never even seen the original show yet I couldn't turn away from the completely useless viewing they were offering. Didnt hurt that the chick in the house is a tight dress and a pair of heels away from being scalding hot

Hahah, I've never seen it either. however I did spend a weekend at a lake house watching Jersey Shore once...
Also have a nice scar on my right shin from a drunken canoeing incident, same weekend.
Good times.
