Learned 2 things in the past couple days.
B16B/ B18C1/5 oil pans fit on to B16As, but B16A/ B18A/B oil pans don't fit on to B16Bs.
And a B16A DC header will not fit a B16B, no matter how much you try to flatten the 2 top pipes with a big hammer. I kind of figured that, from already knowing the heights were different between the 2 blocks, but it was worth a try... I guess :D
At least it's been "fun" working on Hondas again.

So as you may have heard, the NATO Summit is in Chicago starting this weekend, so we have protestors that came to do whatever it is they do. I expected the transit issues, road closures etc.... I did NOT expect to hear that they were flinging poo (not Winnie the) at people walking out of the Board of Trade building. The terrorists are winning....
I don't think Darwin took Politics into account, when he did his whole theory of evolution. If he did, apparently he would have noted the de-evolution involved. But seriously, who in their right mind would ever want to grab their own poop, clinch it in their hand, and throw it at another person. :screwy:

There are plenty of people I would like to smack in the face with a homemade mud pie, but its the whole clinching it in the hand piece that would stop me. Now if I could replace the horn in my car with a (legalized) poo-projectile system, I'd be all for it.... seriously, I would

It takes 4 to operate. We had 3 & they let go the girl who had been there 11yrs. Left just myself & guy who doesnt know anything. Then Office Depot closed. We are now the only place within 100mi. This all went down the same week I discovered my basement flooded. Its been a really crazy 8wks! Have a new girl trained & training somebody to run the dept. Now i will have spare time to do silly things like breathe & love af

Been thinking about selling my beat p.o.s. 5th Gen hatch lately. Needs at least 2 wheel bearings, an exhaust manifold, O2 sensor, clutch, full bushing kit (all cracked and dry rotted) and tires. I have all the parts except the tires and bushings. I just don't have the motivation to fix it (or $ to re-register it & insure it), except for the fuel economy vs the Buick I've been driving. But what really got me considering letting it go is finding a 4th Gen 4wd wagon for sale, and another one that may be for sale in the near future. If I do any performance stuff, I'm sticking with a D, so might as well go 4wd as well. Plus winters suck here :D

That's what I'm hoping for. I've come to realize that I'm such a broke-ass that doing any kind of "performance" car isn't happening anytime soon, so I need a real daily driver. I already screwed up my current car, so I need a new base to work with, and actually take care of it. Drivability in the winter is a huge plus, with snow being on the ground (usually) for 5-6 months out of the year. Of course having a 4wd Honda, that I could actually afford is badass as well.

Yeah I havent been to a ton of places cause I dont know (aka TRUST) enough shops in my area to work on my car. Chicago is good for many things, but mod shops are not realy one of them. Especially when you live 40 miles north of the city, so I am living with dealership prices on this one. Yes, $136/hr is ridiculous, but they have the job booked at 5 hours shop time vs the 6.5 hours shop time for the $86/hr place I was also considering. The front is the issue on my car as you have to take the struts apart to mount the springs.
you need to find yourself a hot tomboy to handle your lightweight....or a guy, your choice which way to swing :eek7:
I really wish I had a hot tomboy to do car work for me. If I did, I probably wouldn't still be single.

Amy if you could please get the Waambulance warmed up, I have a bitchfest......
So I still have a loaner car as mine is still in the shop (woe is me) because what was supposed to be a simple 5-hour spring installation turned into a week long project as the bolts holding the strut and the LCA on the drivers side were seized and had to be destroyed. Somewhere in there, they had to order a part from Japan (I didn't even care which part at that point) which will take two days to deliver, so I should get my baby back (ribs) Thursday. "Luckily" the service manager is a cool enough guy and is giving me a break on the cost.... but the final bill is still TBD. I expect no less than $900 to be milked from my wallet whenever its all done.
Somehow the $215 deal I got on the springs seems sooooo not worth it

Like everything else, its cake if you take a minute and think about what your doing and how things work...or maybe thats just something I'm really good at doing. I'm pretty good at taking ish apart. Most people look shocked when I tell them the projects I've done learning on the fly... but those are people who think changing a tire is the peak of self reliance. Most projects were also on my accord which was a great DIY starter car

So I got the final bill of $1300 after having to replace the drivers strut and LCA, but after talking to the service manager, it was knocked down to $825 which was much appreciated. Then I got in my car.....
SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEE from the drivers wheel where they found the strut issue. Definitely metal on metal somewhere. I pulled right back into the service bay, got back in the loaner, and am awaiting yet another verdict. This one though, is 100% on them (aka free) but makes me rethink the confidence I had in their techs in the first place. Theres no way that sound wasn't happening when they parked my car.
The saga continues, but on the plus side the wheel gap I hate so much is gone

My advice: never give them confidence in the first place, let them earn it. I do love how they always find more stuff to replace than what you go in for. Guy at work is having similar issues.

My friend was given a free 1.5g package of "Cloud 9 Potpourri/Incense - Hypnotic (http://www.domesticoddities.com/product_p/911.htm)". Him being a non-drug using person (other than alcohol & tobacco), he gave it to me :D I've heard and read a lot about this kind of stuff, but never touched it before. I've read various things, like it's a marijuana like high, a Cocaine or Meth like trip, or that it's a PCP like trip. So I'm wondering if anyone here has ever tried these legal herbs before, and what their experience has been.
I sure am glad I never tried this stuff, it's the same brand and everything...

Well after 4 yrs owning my Mishimoto radiator and it leaking the entire time, and 2 of those years actually knowing it was leaking from the drain on it. I finally spend the $4 to replace it and no more leaks. For some reason the drain they use, they sandwich an o-ring in it that if you tighten it too much, you cut it right in half. So for anyone that has one of these radiators and its leaking randomly, this is most likely your culprit, but its an easy fix.

I wouldn't say that... at one stage its engine bay looked like this:
http://www.tunerzine.com/articles/318/1.jpg
I bought it about 14 months ago with the turbo gear taken off it. Original owner was an overseas student and put 15,000 on it, second owner had it to 29,000 kms where it was turbo'd but rarely used (about 5000km usage)... then I picked it up and have put 11K kms on it.
Sadly I had to raise the suspension to stock height to get it up my driveway, but the rest of the car is mint :)

Since being returned to stock (old-timers will know my philosophy :D ) - here's a write-up I did on it on clubitr.com.au:
My background has been in Hondas for just over the last 3 decades from modified EB2 SBC Civics (too many) to the car I miss the most, my JDM EF9 import. Along the way I've owned TA22s, Datto 240Ks, a genuine Holden Torana SLR5000, a Statesman Deville, a '64 EH Holden and my current '85 E30 BMW daily driver.
After my EF9 had an altercation with a bus I couldn't find a Honda that matched it and swore off the brand altogether until I could buy one that matched or exceeded the EF - that's a tough call given the crappy low-spec Hondas that hit our shores.
Having put together some cash and with the discovery of more rust than I was prepared to deal with on the EH (never ever go looking for rust, especially behind the subframe), I picked up the E30 cheap and went looking for a good example of either a DC2R, an EP3 or a S15 R-Spec. Sadly, the Dcs were largely poorly modded, tired and worn examples, the S15s were a little better but either massive $$ for a low km version or too much for a 180k km variant and the stories never jelled with the car's level of wear (apparently no S15 has ever been driven over 4K rpm despite massive mods) . The EP3s were more than what I was prepared to pay and a few just felt average.
Which brings me to my new baby and the reason I get highly nervous in shopping centres. It's a low km '99 PY that was once on these forums. Mods left over from the previous owner are 16 inch JDM wheels, braided brake lines, brake stopper, rear strut brace, Tein coilovers (thank god as I had to raise the car to get it up the driveway), HKS grounding kit and modded airbox. It drives like a dream, is comfortable enough to take me and the kids to Victoria and back and almost as good as the EF9 in personality while far excelling it in terms of handling.
To date it's been off to a paintless dent remover to take out the few blemishes it had, had a ipod/USB compatible head unit installed and is serviced with Royal Purple every 3000 kms. New front tyres are on, wheels are to be refurbished as they have a few chips on them and then off to have the chips in the bonnet fixed from interstate runs. Then it's off to a detailer as I havent got the patience to do it myself.
Enough backstory, on with the pics:

Yep, the stereo is in the wrong spot, but tbh, I have the iphone/pod connector in the hutch above it - almost like Honda knew about iphone dimensions.

How it spends some of its time (damn you Bosche electricals):

Ouch, I hate it when the odometer clocks over another 10K
http://members.iinet.net.au/~setanta/dc2r/sdc2r028.jpg
Brake stopper - seems to work, the car stops :D
http://members.iinet.net.au/~setanta/dc2r/sdc2r018.jpg
Grounding kit - seems to work as the car has no aspirations beyond its station and is very well grounded :D

Mandatory shakey-cam picture - next weekends job is to clean these right up and check the bushings etc.

I love toolkits that come with cars - not as cool as the hinge-down one attached to the inner boot of the E30... but it's still cool :)

The E30 says "I'm classy, and I appreciate the classics", but the Teg says "I'm on bath salts and Mountain Dew, get back here so I can eat your face off"
Its a toss up
