Ohhhh I wish I hadn't looked at that video cause now I want one too! Might not be a fun when you don't have any local competition. Unless I can convince some parents in my apt building to get em for their kids it'll just be me in the parking lot whipping the mini drifter around. Not sure if thats more or less creepy than a grown man trying to pool a group of 10 yr olds to hang with

I know this is a shot in the dark, but here goes nothing. Does anyone happen to know any place that sells big vinyl banners (5ft long) for the company HKS? A friend has one in his garage, but it's pretty old and is starting to break apart at the ends. He wants a legit one though, not some crappy knock-off, a well made knock-off one might work though.

Shoot me a pm if interested. I can hook up your friend

If its picture time, I'll show you guys my diy projects from this wknd.... that is if I remember to do it later

If loud music with windows down is a Summer Driving Foul (as it deserves to be) then blasting sh!t bag music with all treble should be a triple foul!

Side note: Does $175/wheel sound right for powder coating?? Thats the approx quote I got for this place in my area.... the only place in my area.

Not sure if I need to investigate for a place farther away with a better rate. However, I would much rather pay to have it done right than to get the el cheapo job and have it peel in a couple months.

Tony
05-03-2012, 10:48 PM
Shouldn't ever have to worry about powder coating peeling. At most it would dent easy or flake. Same was with normal paint, prep work makes a big difference, just proper cleaning, no sanding or anything required, but the biggest step with powder coating is baking. Bake it for too short a time and its still soft, too long and its brittle. My advice is pick a place that does wheels more than a powder coater that does more factory type stuff, as they will have a better understanding on bake time and temp.

I worked at a powder coating place for a little while. We did a lot of stuff for a local factory that made electric motors, a lot of covers and junction boxes, and we did like hospital bed frames. Anytime we ran something new, it was trail and error with the oven. Had to run one through and test it and go from there.

00accord44
05-04-2012, 09:25 AM
Thanks for the advice. Looks like this place is pretty legit and has a focus on wheels for sure. The picture gallery looks good and they got good reviews on Yelp too, so they seem like a safe bet.

Got my first ticket, since I was 19, on Thursday. I was driving my grandmother's Buick on the highway, when they pulled me over. A few State Trooper cars around here have license plate scanners, and I had the cruise control on, so I knew it wasn't for speeding. They said their computer says the license plates have been suspended, because of a lapse in insurance. They even gave me a printout from their computer, which states that lapse occurred a year ago. Of course this being a grandmother's car, there is a bunch of random stuff in the glove compartment and center console, some of which are empty ziplock bags or ziplock bags filled with rain ponchos/hair covers. They of course found those worthy of looking at up close :D And, of course there was no up-to-date insurance card or registration card in the car, which probably would have sent me on my way quickly. The insurance company claims to have no record of any lapse in coverage, so they're contacting the DMV, to find out who's fault it is.

They didn't seem to have anything productive to do that day, other than to try to give out as many tickets as possible. Before they were even finished talking with me (saying they could have towed the car and cuffed me, etc), one pointed to a passing car for the other to see, and they sped off to pull that person over. I was just talking to my friends the day before about how I drive like a an old lady, and have only had 1 ticket, where they've all had a dozen or dozens. Damn, I remember the good 'ol days, where if you didn't drive like an asshole, you got left alone.

Mannnn..... Im gonna chalk that up to supply and demand. Im sure there are at least 5 aftermarket auto shops in CA for every 1 in the Chicago area. In hindsight it probably would have been a better idea to have the guy I bought them from get the PC done for cheap in CA before shipping them to me. Oh well.... my pocket says I will have them remailn silver for at least a month longer

So as you may have heard, the NATO Summit is in Chicago starting this weekend, so we have protestors that came to do whatever it is they do. I expected the transit issues, road closures etc.... I did NOT expect to hear that they were flinging poo (not Winnie the) at people walking out of the Board of Trade building. The terrorists are winning....
