Grand Am Off Topic Thread

Sooo the PCM and rear strut bar when it comes back in stock will prolly be the last things I do to my car for a while. Why? I'm pretty sure I'll get a new one (keep the GA but also get a new one to work on, and use the GA to drive as a grocery getter and such... albeit a loud, mean sounding one hehehe). If the GA kicks the bucket I'll get a used GTP, if not then I'll keep it and get like a WRX.

My Pc(not my laptop) has 4x-8x agp, with my radion 9800 AIW it flys~!
Though ,I did have trouble with the ATI fan dying and I had to send it to NY a few weeks ago.
They are sending me a NEW agp card.

...My laptop decided to have a stroke and now it doesn't want to wake up. :banghead: damn XP programming issues... and i don't have any recovery CD's to get it going again... this is what i get for a free laptop i guess... i've sunk in $500.00 to get this thing going for it to die 3 times already.... Never again! :shakehead

XP with all the updates runs pretty smooth actually from what it use to be, ur laptop could just be a POS :lol: I'm repairing one right now (girlfriend's) so far I've formatted the drive 3 times now trying to get it to load right (the OS, NT now... 98SE wasnt gonna cut it)... there is damage to the harddisk, not to bad tho... like 2-3MB is damaged out of a 10gig drive, not to worried for now. I updated her BIOS as well grabbed all the drivers and updates from manufac. Gateway =p oh fun... so once I get this thing running ill be putting it all on... just gotta find video drivers, dont even know what card is built into this thing... I think ATi b/c they had ATi 98 drivers .. but not 98SE drivers (go fig lol) and no NT vid drivers Grrrrr ... in all due time, ill have this thing running smooth, defragged, protected and cool temp'd :D

btw XI, pci-e ftw =) it's all on the comp's setup, it ALL has to be good parts from what I've found with pci-e in order to have it running amazing. I'm still usin AGP tho... xfx geforce 6800 xt overclocked :D .. MY games... are smooooooth like silk :D

I had an eVGA 6800GT last year, overclocked it too high and it burned up when I was playing Battlefield 2, so I sent it in and got a new one... but not before i built myself a new computer with a Radeon X1800XT and PCI-E and a dual core processor :p This was about this time last year that I did that. Now I'm getting a new one already because my ex gf wanted a computer, and I have a lot of money to spare, and I can sell her my old stuff for a good price because it doesn't suck. So I get a new computer, with absolute ass-kicking parts, for like $600 after she gives me money for my old parts. Life roooccckkkksss once I get it :p I will SLI someday too methinks :)

Just taken a break between shows. My youngest daughter showed a sheep, her first year so she only got 4th place. Second in best of show class.
Here in 2 hrs I've got the boys showing thier beef cows(blk angus) should make some good money this year at the sale after the shows :D

Though I do raise beef for cheap meat which stemed from doing 4H, I wouldnt say I'm a farmer.
Its been an excellent way to turn around some fast cash(and free meat).
About $1500-2000 for each, I have 5 for sale at thursdays auction.
I only have about $200 invested into each one, just feed/time, because they were born and bred here.
I'll post some picks of them and a calf that was just born a week ago.

BTW I was spraying carpenter ants with WD-40 at the bottom of my stairs during lunch break when the UPS truck pulled up... I opened the door when he was about two steps away from it and scared the sh*t out of him and was like yeah I was expecting this :p Then I got my PCM!!!!!!!!!!!!! And now I need to install it today... but I wont have time to get crank positioning done for a few days. Is that alright (aka will my car not explode?)

It's gonna be a nice week Xero, jet stream is extremely far north and bringing air from Canada... cool and DRY!!! Perfect for installing a PCM :)

Next time I'm in Rensselaer (I was on Sunday kinda), I'll make sure to egg your house :p j/k!!! I can't throw that far lol

I live on just over 200 acres , the part I mow around the house is 125ft out from the house at 360 deg.
It is to keep the wildlife outta my yard, if possible. :grinno:
Plus I'm surrounded by woods(so I doubt your eggs will make it that far Vipey) :D

I used to mow it with a 50" mower pulling a trail mower :gay: = 5-6 hrs of mowing.
Now I have a Dixan(Dixi chopr rip offs) it takes less then 3hrs now.

I designed and built the intire thing myself,
except for the brick work which I didnt have time for all that.

It'll be free and clear this time next year. :popcorn:
I'll trade anyone house payments :lol:

the real reason I havent installed that is because as soon as I do,

E3 or AC Delco iridiums, with the spiro pro taylor wires from pfyc.com with the MSD Ignition coilpacks... its a good investment, I did the MSD and my car sounds a bit louder, runs so much smoother as well... ill get pics when its out of the shop and fixed...

I have the plugs and wires... I probably should get the ignition packs considering I'm on the stock ones (178k miles and climbing!).

Got it in! And by the grace of god I somehow managed to get EVERYTHING back in place... you have NO IDEA how much of a pain in the ass it was! I had to take off my kick panels, unhook my hood popping button lever thing, move the 4awg wire out of the way, pull a bunch of other wires out of the way, pull the wires to the PCM out of the way FORCIBLY that scared me... all upside down and trying to keep my feet away from the outside so I didn't get huge ants biting me to oblivion :uhoh:

I can proudly say I did the entire thing without ONCE touching my feet to the ground outside :smokin: I kinda made a big circle of WD-40 around where my feet WOULD be if I needed to, and most of the ants stayed away, but a few brave ones crossed the barrier. Then I got pissed when I was done with the PCM and sprayed about 20 of them and laughed as they died :rofl: I shoulda done the wall of fire!!!

So yeah test drove it... got vids and pics, and since :useless:, I will get them up asap. It shifts very funny, almost like it's shifting twice rather than once, and at very strange RPMs... my first gear fooking KICKS HARD, but the other ones are really confused until I get my CASE relearn done... I'm sure it will be better then hehe :)

But yeah, pretty cool so far, can't wait to get it completely fixed :D Looking into the ignition packs now!

EDIT: I just found a really long zippo lighter i got for xmas a few years back... ohhh man this is gonna be good tomorrow :rofl:

I TOLD YA LOL :lol: it just doesnt know what to do on the shifts... but once thats cleared up with the CASE learn you'll be happy with that purchase

the MSD packs prob wont be nearly as hard as all of that sounds... its a snap er 'bolt-on' :lol: just gotta remember where you put the wires, (label the top of the packs as you do each one individually 'that helped me lol') and dont lose the long bolts that're used haha

If they charge me, w/e because I get my $100 core charge back at least :lol: and they know NOT to reflash the PCM, or I'll... never mind not appropriate for an open forum :rofl:

It usually will start up it just runs like caca until you get the relearn set up. To bad you guys couldnt get a DHP tuner, thats the way to get the most out of your Dhp pcm.

Also remember to benifit you'll need premium fuel to get all those ponys pounding the pavement :D

ya vipey, I noticed when using the new PCM gas does matter lol... I usually either get 93oct from Shell or Techron... they seem to work best... cheap gas sucks.. seriously lol.. u put it in and ur umph is gone lol.... :popcorn:

you should have been at my friend's house Sunday evening... now THAT was entertainment! Apparently they block the smiley after a few minutes cause I came back in to see this HUGE add for the other forum! THEN to top this all off A/F was running slow so i couldn't get it off. G-Damn then i get some random error message saying it's too big. All i kept thinking was XI is gonna rip me a new one for this... to make matters worse i have all sorts of managers coming to my desk while i'm trying to fix this asking me questions, asking for reports and to look up things. speaking of bad days, the person helping me with my model runs on the NCAR supercomputer BlueIce exceeded her processing limit and doesn't have any more access until SEPTEMBER... luckily another person in our office has free space so we're going to start using his space hehe :rofl: It's all for the same project so it should be alright.

Oh and the ants... I found a HUGE one! Its mandibles were probably the size of smaller ants! I was like OH YOU DIE *WD40* and it took a while to die being the beast it was. Oh and my lighter strategically ran out of fluid, and there's no way in hell I'm lighting WD40 on fire without a loooong lighter... not using a regular one LOL I like my hand... so I couldn't go on a burnfest :( I had people staring at me when I looked up so I decided it was a good time to stop WD40ing carpenter ants and go inside... but not before I sprayed about 12 more in one crack that was by my door LOL :rofl:

Also... got my PCM flashed... it took them like 20 minutes... and $40... noobs!

1st shifts funny but faster, thank god lol. I think it's fine. The others shift almnost like normal but maybe faster... but wow it feels like it regrew some balls :rofl: Driving to Crown Point today Xero, I'll be passing Rensselaer probably so watch for a silver GA blazin by hahahaha :rofl: I want to see how fast my car goes now that I have no speed limiter but I'll probably chicken out. If you never see me again I probably wrecked :p OH anotehr thing... I need to find my copy of my purchase on pfyc so I can send my PCM back, otehrwise I'm fuxxored :(

Best way to describe the shifting on the PCM is how much throttle you're giving it.. before it'll decide to shift.... sorta like a smart shift technique or something lol

just do 'buy one now' and change quantity to 3 and there ya go... $160, shipping was fast too. Installation was easy as pie, if you have a front strut bar it might get in the way... I managed to work around it to get the bolts in the back around the bar... ill try to get a pic of them today when my girl comes over

might as well just save for headers&cat from S&S Headers lol

3000GT's are realy nice, especialy the Vr4= turbo !!:smokin:

I figure I'll keep my grand damn and buy a VR4 and when the VR4 breaks like it's known to do I'll drive my grand damn :)

VR4's are just sooo sexy... heavier than f@#$ but god they are hot to look at... if they magically transformed into women they'd be teh hawt Ms. Universe :naughty:

I also like the old stealths.
I had my eye on this pastel yello one, with pastel green rims, with AW steering and twin turbos. They just wanted way to much for it having over 150k miles.
Soon after it had major engine troubles and crapped out.
It was super fast and quick!

They do break a lot which is why I'm keeping my GA :) My GA DOESN'T break a lot. Just buy a VR4 and get an engine rebuild and you're good to go :)

I know someone who did that... they got a 3000GT for FREE, bought a brand new motor and new wiring harness ( since the other was cut), bascially it was brand new again.... However since then The last time i saw him he was driving his POS neon... so it may be dead by now, either stolen, wrecked, or broke down... Don't know.

If i was able to hit 110 on my GT stock...( that's as far as the comp would let me go) then you should be able to surpass that with not problem.... and so far 120ish on the 6 GTP stock... with more left to go... :naughty:

I made an excellent skid on the highway yesterday when I almost took the wrong exit and changed my mind at the last second and avoided a tiny little plastic pylon by about 4 feet while half-drifting my FWD car :lol: it was skillful driving and I was thanking god my car was lowered and I had a strut bar!!! SKKKIIIIIIDDDDDD!

I've gone 120+ :dunno: on a straight, the RPMS were still climbing and I didnt get a look at my aerotech scan gauge but my car started to 'float' which is scary, mines not lowered lol... you can just feel the whole car ready to slip out or so it seems

Yep I know that feeling!!!! It feels like the whole car is ready for take off... and well mine felt like it was gonna explode or something.... but for some reason or another the g/a's are very $ss light. If your not careful you can throw yourself into a full out spin out. Not that i know that from experience.... :uhoh:... *ehem* Speakin of losing control I think i have to add Tires to the list for the 6. I have the crappy Goodyears that came with the car... and i sort of found out the hard way you can't go fast into a turn while the road is just ever so slightly wet... not that i wasnt have a little fun with that..( donuts in the parking lot of the hotel.... :evillol: ) but it's a "Safety" Issue...
