Yeah Vipey I sold the RSM SC a while back. I lost some critical parts and kept the 36# injectors for the SE. It was more trouble then worth.
Compresion ratio is about right for boost in our newr grand ams.
I wouldnt try stuffing 10+ PSI down it with out changing some gaskets, and loosing the EGR.
Thats my next small project for the SE, dropppin the EGR. Finaly got a DHP pcm, just havnt had time to instlal and set up. Then I can get a few more hp out of it with the 36# injectors. :naughty:.

Man I don't remember when the last time I've been on here. It's been awhile that's for sure. Well officially my 88 grand am needs a fuel pump. A few weeks back I went up to jersey and I had my aunt charge up the battery for me. I jump behind the wheel and tried starting her up and she just wouldn't turn over. Turn the key to acc and didn't hear the fuel pump. I guess its done it's work being 21 years old an all. Now that the fuel pump is dead it's gonna be a PITA to sell the car.
On a frustrating note for the past week... my civic died on me. I was on my way to lunch at work, started her up about to put her in gear and it stalled out, couldn't get it restarted. I had it towed to honda. Found out my ignition coil went out. Honda was telling me the car wasn't running right still and wanted to keep the car. Well I got them to give the car back until all the part were ordered. I really lucked out when i found out that the extra repairs being done were covered under an extended warranty by honda. I didn't even know that this existed. So I got new plugs, wires, cap and points with a oil change all for free on my 12 year old car. :grinyes:

Hey grfnkl, did you check out the relay for your 88 ? Could just be that and a lot cheaper and easier to fix. ;)
Yeah Ive been busy as hell! Hardly enough time to breathe this last week. :runaround: WInter rush is what I call it. Everyone waits untill the last moment to take care of winterizing thiers automobiles. :shakehead
Which I cant complain about the money, just no extra time for anything but work and sleep. Maybe this one will be better.....

No i didn't check the relay but I'm about 97% certain that its the pump itself. The last time the car was running the pump was very weak sounding compared how loud and noisy it was usually. When i didn't hear it when i turned the key pretty much figured it finally went south. I also didn't have much tools to work with or time. So i closed her up and walked away unhappy. :frown: I've been procrastinating on selling her though. Oh well one of these days I have to bite the bullet and get it done.

The last Pontiacs to ever be built rolled off the assembly line today.
Orion plant rolls out last Pontiac for U.S.
David Phillips / Special to The Detroit News
Orion Township -- The ride is over for the brand that put rolling excitement on the road for generations of Americans.
General Motors Co. built the last Pontiac for the U.S. market today: a white, G6 sedan (http://www.detnews.com/article/20091125/AUTO01/911250416/-1/#) that rolled off the assembly line in Orion Township at about 12:45 p.m.
There was no cake or commemorative banner or senior GM official on hand; no media were permitted: Just a group of "final process" workers to oversee the last 100 G6 models assembled.
"We're focused on a quality build-out for the customer," said GM spokesman Kevin Nadrowski.
Many workers stopped to pose for photos with the last cars (http://www.detnews.com/article/20091125/AUTO01/911250416/-1/#) as they moved down the assembly line.
It was a subdued goodbye for an 82-year old brand that debuted under the bright lights of the New York Auto Show in 1926.
GM announced in April that it would phase out Pontiac as part of a bailout orchestrated by the U.S. government.
Unlike the last Oldsmobile, an Alero signed by hundreds of plant workers and donated to the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum in Lansing, the final G6 models will be sold as part of a fleet order.
The Orion Township plant will be idled and retooled to produce a new small car (http://www.detnews.com/article/20091125/AUTO01/911250416/-1/#) starting in 2011.
In December, the automaker will end production of the Pontiac G3 Wave, a subcompact built in Mexico and sold only in Canada -- marking the official end of production for the brand.
A sad day for a brand that many people loved. :disappoin:crying:
:sadwavey: Goodbye Pontiac you'll be forever in my heart.

I don't see any on our roads anymore in my area, not even as winter rats. The salt and winter conditions here really took a toll on the older grand Ams and their siblings. When I first met my wife back in 1993 she was driving an '88 that she bought used in '89. The car only being 5 years old already had rust forming on the rear quarter panels ,door bottoms, and underside. We ended up selling it in '94 for $1500. It's too bad the bodies on these cars didn't outlast the engines. Now if I happen to see one on the roads it's either a car purchased down South and brought up here or from out of town. Either way, not having seen one in awhile is enough to turn my head for a second look since they are a rarity in my area, and they bring back a memory when it was a time where there were TONS of them on the roads.

You should see mine! Mines an 88 bought new back in feb of 88. It's lived all of it's life in Northern New jersey so it saw plenty of snow and salt. The car serisouly has extremely little rust on it. Their are a few small spots on the lower doors that I kept up with. 2 larger spots both underneath driverside moldings but when i say larger the surface area it covers is about the size of a baseball going on a softball. most spots i didn't let pass the size of a golf ball. The undercarriage actually is in pretty good shape as well other then spot in the drivers wheel well but it's a spot that separates the interior of the car from the outside so in the end that's not even a big deal. I know up in syracuse the winters are a lot more harsh then what we got by me so i know that will play a factor but even for a NE car it really held up. My fathers 87 was the same way when the car was given up on it had 2 surface rust spots on the back quarter otherwise a completely clean and solid body.

Yeah I see some of the older cars dating back to the late '80s/early '90s with NJ plates in town once in awhile with 2 major colleges in town we get a lot of out of state students so it's interesting to see how cars hold up in other parts of the country when they are in town. Even areas downstate south of Poughkeepsie and Westchester Co. seem to hold up better because their winters are milder than ours.

Ha Ha It is warmer here. It is around 36 degrees. The only precip I saw last night was rain. Saw a very few snowflakes. The only excitement was he had a neighbors attached garage burned. It also got part of the house roof. I went by the house today and they had someone putting a blue tarps over the burned areas of the roof. I hate to see that happen right before Christmas.

Has anyone tried the newer frameless beam wiper blades on their Grand Am? I have trico neoforms on my 07 mazda 3 and trico techs on my 05 jeep grand cherokee but I was looking to see how they work on grand ams...especially a pre-2004. How do they perform? Do they fit? How do they look?

Never heard of those wipers. I usualy buy some cheaper Anco or something like that since I replace mine 2-3 times a year.
I hear silicone are the best but I havent given them a try yet.

Yeah, up here in Wisconsin we pretty much put on replacement wipers twice a year: before and after winter. When other people are changing their clocks and smoke detector batteries at daylight savings time, we're changing our blades!! LOL
Thanks for the info...maybe some other people have input too?

i had the frameless blade on my G6 and they worked really well. I actually got 2 years out of them before they needed to be replace. The only bad thing was at the time those blades were near impossible to find and when you did you were paying about 25 bucks a blade. Thankfully they are becoming more known and have dropped in price a little. I know its not a grand am but G6= 6th generation Grand Am.

Yeah chicks like to using thier wipers to clean the bugs off, which just riips little chunks out of the edge and causes streeks. Ice and snow do the same.
I'd think silicone would hold up better but I havnt tried those yet...am do for a new set soon though. :D

Had a major power steering failure this evening in the SE. Lost all the fluid in about 30 secs. I know what I'll be doing in the morning.
I had just ran over a couple ice burges in the road. Next time Im driving around them suckers!

I was getting on it in a few slick spots. :yikes: I kinda like it when I break traction at 40mph in that sandy stuff on the road..not good on the tires though.

It's been freezing down here for the past week! :runaround: My car hasn't seen cold weather like this in over 2 years... and it isn't pretty. My mornings now are as followed. Start the car and let warm up for 15min. temp gauge never rises but I wait for the RPMs to drop around the 1000-1200 range or until the exhaust begins to rattle. I begin driving to here a snap noise and creaking from turning my steering wheel with a car that is acting like it has no power steering. At this point adjusting the radio volume is pointless because nothing will happen when you turn the knob. get about 1 block from the house and the temp gauge is now registering! Finally get the to road still have creaking steering and clicking noise and steering is beginning to loosen up. Drive 7 miles to work... when i pull up, radio knob is 80% functioning, power steering is back, creaking and clicking noise is still their but doesn't do it as much and temp gauge is at operating range. This doesn't include all the creaks and squeaks I hear while driving that I normally never hear! All of this only happens in the morning after sitting all night. It can sit all day at work in the same temps as the night and i won't get half of the things that happen.

A camaro tried going somewhere in this weather. A CAMARO! He was stuck in my neighborhood on a road trying to leave... I saw that and was like wow dumbass trying to drive RWD during a winter storm warning. Drove my happy Subaru right by him and went to Walmart. When I came back... he was STILL TRYING TO GET OUT, a bunch of friends were standing around staring at it... and I drove right by again, before I busted out laughing.
And this is why you don't SOLELY own a RWD car in the winter if you live in Indiana. LOL!
Oh and if anyone tries to laugh at the fact that I only have 170 hp during the summer... I'll tell them wait until the next winter storm and then let's see who can go faster... or go anywhere at all... hehehe.
I need to steal my grand am back from my dad though... it's much more fun during the summer :D

A camaro tried going somewhere in this weather. A CAMARO! He was stuck in my neighborhood on a road trying to leave... I saw that and was like wow dumb ass trying to drive RWD during a winter storm warning. Drove my happy Subaru right by him and went to Walmart. When I came back... he was STILL TRYING TO GET OUT, a bunch of friends were standing around staring at it... and I drove right by again, before I busted out laughing.

I know what you mean, I see it here too. The people around me are that dumb too. Wish I had a tow truck, would be some good extra cash to buy toys with.

no problem with rwd if you know how to drive it. I had benz E class rwd in Europe + bigger hills, mountains and winding roads did not have problems. One big mistake that people make is they give too much gas, I bet he was smoking his tires trying to leave.....in his case low ground clearance and wide tires were the major factors that were creating problems.

:iagree: RWD is all I drove since the early '80s until a few years after I got married in '96. I never had an issue getting around here in NY where we can get close to 200" of snow. I also live in a hilly area. A good pair ( older RWD just need 2 on the rear) of snow tires are a big help as well as experience. I use to drive past 4x4s and FWD all the time in the winter that were either stuck or having trouble navigating the roadways. Even though my main vehicle now is a FWD, I still would rather drive a RWD.

As long as you're smart with it, yes. But being a college town... it boiled down to your typical college aged male with a typical way-too-much-testosterone ego, buying a fast (and typical considering virtually everyone drives either a camaro, trans am, or mustang... or civic with a million wings attached to them), typical car, trying to do typical stunt driving in typical Indiana winter. It's just so stereotypical that I had to laugh.

The only way to get it is to import the car here. I want one. Waiting on law suit to be final so maybe in the future?
Yeah I know you had to import them, only one company I think can bring them here and make street legal if even possible. Thier's lots of clones out there, plus people on ebay used to run scams trying to sell them.
Even a 98-00 model would be sweet! Just slap on a body kit and freshen up the motor and a bigger turbo. Probly $5-6k US dolllars, its the $50-60K that company charges to make them streetable(if at all possible)I know I already said that lol )
Possible the right hand drive that the NHTSA doesnt like. I'd like it, AWD is the only way to fly.

Wow I forgot how bad insomnia can be.
I guess I got used to all those late nights towng J.A.'s in TA's, Stangs, and Camero's(rwd) .
All were usualy on flat pavement.
I've driven many rwd cars and trucks over the years. Usualy good tires and some weight in the trunk does best. Most people Im pulling out are in bad need of tires! Ih and some just cant drive.
My GA has set outside since I busted the trans mount, looking like a block of ice now. The Ins Rep finaly came out today, yea.... now I can fix it, again. :jerking:
Kinda sucks, but I think the SE is goin to be strickly May-Oct. To much to get screwed up by some inexperianced driver and its became a snow plow.
I have other toys to drive in this weather.:evillol:
At least it warmed up here today or rather yesterday... right now its 14.2 deg with a 2-4 mph sw wind.
That's a big improvement from the xero it was the last week or two.
Supposed to hit 30's tomorrow!
be carefull out there everyone!

Well its a little slow around here.....
Finaly got hte SE back together last friday. I went ahead and repalced the whole rack and that trans mount.
Sucks no one makes a stronger rear trans mount. :(
MMS is to high on his front mount, but says it'll hook up better. RSM aka Zspec is only $22 but I beleve thats Canadian plus shipping. Found several poly aluminum ones for the right engine mount a little pricey but Im tired of breaking shit!
Just driving it with a little snow on the roads that week I was bottoming out and plowing snow underneath.
Might have to weld some thick metal strips on the underside to keep from rippin stuff off in the summer, even speed bumps scrape my exhaust bad! :eek7:
Well at least its Friday!

Yeah Vipey, dress warm!
And using hot water seems to work best. Though it make for a large steam cloud.
I just washed the SE lastnight @ 11pm and my mirrors and rear window frosted over pretty quickly. All the carwashes around here were full most of today, hit the big 25 degs.

Hello everyone!
It was my birthday two days ago, and I turned the ripe old age of 24. I am now mid-20's :crying:
Oh how the years have begun to fly!
But yeah, had a lame winter storm warning that dumped maybe 4 inches of snow, and was sunny for about 1/2 of the warning. It was the most boring winter storm warning I have ever seen, and I didn't even get close to getting stuck, which made it even LESS exciting. FROWN!

Hell you're still young, mine was 3 days ago, and turned 51. The years had been ruff. But I am still alive. Talked to a friend the other day and several has passed away both were young. One was 35 and the other was 38. It is sad to be so young and pass on. So I guess that I feel very lucky I made it this far. It was just yesterday that I was in high school.

I'm actually amazed to say this but it snowed here last night! We actually got about 6-7 inches of snow! This is highly rare for the North Carolina coast! Only 3 house on my street actually shoveled snow. Us, the people across the street that are from New York and the people down the street from wisconsin. The rest well they let the sun melt most of it. My family got hit hard in maryland and delaware with all those snow storms. Well hope everyone is staying safe out their!

People are idiots out there! Thinking they can drive a 2 WD car through 4-5 ft drifts! :banghead: Left alone a 4x4 cant even get thru.... and its only Tuesday!
Be carefull out there everyone !

I have not been able to buy them as of yet. Short on funds but as soon as I have some extra money I will order them online and have to have the tire shop install them for me.

WOW... it's really slow out here! I haven't been here in sometime now and only see 2 new posts! :runaround: I don't know where the time seems to be going but it's flying by. The cars are still running over here. Finally got the civic in for a timing belt change. Amazing the difference that made with the way the car performs as well as how much quieter the engine is now! I guess it was about to go. I also got rid of the rust patches that formed on the rear inner quarter panels... and did a really good detailing job on it. You can now see your reflection in the paint... and no more white fingers when you touch the car. Sadly my grand am will be gone soon... either to a junk yard or maybe to my brother in law. I have been given notice by my aunt who is holding the car that she needs it gone now since she is selling her house. :frown: I just have to figure out which way is the best option for me. Well hope everyone has a safe Memorial Day Weekend!

Nooo not the grand am!!!
Things have been boring here. Before I even got to 6,000 miles some assclown slammed their door into my new Legacy and I have a dent and scuffed paint in the side of it. A few days later I have a scratch on the other side. I should have known better than to get a new vehicle on a college campus :crying:
I had to move out of my apartment because my sister graduated, and she gets married next weekend, and right now I'm living in Danville, IN because I have an internship in Indianapolis. This will last until August, and so far it's pretty cool because I'm an assistant supervisor intern and get to boss people around :p Nicely of course!
Boring weather here as well, wish we had more storms :(
Anyway, I'll try to come on here more if everyone else does :) The oh-so-fun discussions have slowly dwindled away, and all the car-related forums I used to visit are slowly fading away. It's sad :(
