This is the Off topic, but I think that was confusing , a little :D

So is every one enjoying Global warming ?
Its been crazy here, one night it was 25, the next morning it was 45, like 5 hrs later :headshake

Now we're expecting some ice/snow........ :uhoh:
Hope everyone out west is doing OK with thier mess of things. Ice Sux !

Hopefully this is not a stupid question for this place. I was just wondering if anyone did something that I am planning to do very soon and that is to install somehow an additional cooling fan for the back side of the engine for cylinders 1, 3 and 5. I think engineers did make some kind of problem with GA that small front grill looks nice but does not allow enough cold air to enter engine compartment. So if you notice v6 engines will most of the time have problem with #3 injector and then with #4 because they are at the hottest location. So now I am planning somehow to connect both of my cooling fans (if I succeed to squeeze somehow the other one at the back side of the engine) with relays so that they both work at the same time and also when I turn off the engine I would like both of them to work for an additional minute. I do not think this should hurt the battery so much, plus this in the long run could save us a lot of head gasket problems and clogged injectors. Hopefully I did not confuse you with my sentence structures. J

xeroinfinity
01-14-2007, 12:54 PM
Sounds like a good idea,
but in practical matters the fans would probly melt back there.
It gets very hot, hotter then the oven in your kitchen.

Your 97' has a bigger grill area then the 99'+.
One cheaper way would be to install hood scoop(s) to vent the heat.
Both my GAs hav the Ram air duct so the air that blows in goes straight to the firewall area.
When I put it on the SE it did seem to run cooler. Then my air dam(the part that hangs down from the bottom of the radiator) broke and it got hot again.
The air dam does help pull some heat from the engine bay, and direct more air threw the radiator.

Aki334
01-14-2007, 01:39 PM
See you just gave me another very good and simple solution, but air scoops in combination with fans from both sides would be the best solution. Plus, if can make them work automatically 1-3 minutes after the engine is turned off, that is the most important part because injectors I believe become clogged when engine is not working from that heat soaking. Correct me if I am wrong please.
I will be very careful that fan does not touch anything hot or all those vacuum lines or spark plug wires. I will probably look for fan from Geo Metro since it is very tight place to put even your hand. I will definitely start looking for air scoops now GA will look much better too.

xeroinfinity
01-14-2007, 04:26 PM
Heat soak doesnt matter when the car is off.
Nor does it make you injectors clogged.

That would be from contaminated(bad) gas, dirty fuel lines(inside) , dirty/clogged fuel filter.

The problem you had with your GA, was possibly you didnt replace the "O" ring when you replaced your fuel pressure regulator.
Or your injectors just need taken off and cleaned manualy or with an ultrasonic machine.

Which anyone with most scann tool can read how the injectors are performing and should be able to tell you if they are good or need replaced.

It finally seems like winter is here! It's going to be -7 tonight here.... considering the 50 and 60 degree days we have been having -7 is going to be really cold! Today started at 60 and it was 49 when i left my house, and now it's somewhere in the 30's cuz my office is freezing already! We finally had our first "snow" here the other day, even though it was a flurry for about 15 mins, but it's still snow to me!

I have seen several flurries pass through my area, but no occumilation.
Lastnight we got about an inch :)
Our temps to have been realy warm then cold then warm then colder.....
I just wish it would snow and be over with !

I didnt know the east coast was getting all the cold already.
It was -30 at Yellowstone NP Monday morning, high of -5 :yikes:

I'm sure it'll get that cold here a time or two before its over.

It's already very VERY cold here now today. My office area feels like a refridgerator.... I think it's time for my space heater! LOL other then today we had a few cold blasts, and some real warm blasts as well. I really do want some snow though.

Oh yeah thanx Xi for the pole reminder. LOL Come to think about it I've hit 2 poles. the "big" accident with the 02 into a telephone pole and i did bump a pole with my 88 in an icy parking lot. All i can say was it was icy i was trying to park and I slid backwards into the light post. left a little scratch on the back fender otherwise nothing.

Gir: becareful with those e-brake pulls. I did that once, for actually emergency reasons.... and my rear brake kept binding up after that. and watch out for poles they might just jump out and hit you. hahahah.

grfnkl
01-16-2007, 04:02 PM
revisiting the donut idea.... It's TONS of fun to do them on snow and ice. nothing like multiple spins. and the best part is if someone parks on a ice you can move their car. HAHAHHA a buddy of mine and myself moved his friends camaro while he was in the store we worked at, at that time.

(which you dont have to pay for :D)

I love doing donuts in RWD cars and sliding around..
I miss that!
The cars that I have that are rwd,
I wouldnt be driving in the winter let alone on the snow/Ice :yikes:

That last little snow we had I saw some kid doing reverse nuts and he hit a car :shakehead
It was awsome though :grinyes:

Gir-_-
01-16-2007, 11:11 PM
decided to do it in my friend's pos lol.. its already beaten to hell and back and he already rips his e-brake on a daily basis... that was mad fun tho.. no poles to worry about... fresh parking lot with about 1/2 inch of solid ice

grfnkl
01-17-2007, 12:07 PM
XI: I'm not sure how much my space heater puts out... all i can say though is if I leave it on too long i blow the breaker for half our restaurant and our refridgerators for our wine/beer storage ( not as if it matters in there anyways since the heat doesn't work)

I never had the experience of doing donuts in a RWD car. Most I've done was in a FWD car in the snow... some on purpose and well some not.:cwm27: Beaters are teh best to mess around with, cuz if anything happens you just don't feel as bad. Even better when it's someone elses car!!!

Well stay warm, I know I'm trying!

As I do on any given day. Gotta do what you gotta do :D

RWD are just funner all together.
I like gravel too(if you can fight the dust off, and not get choked out) especially in a someone elses car :grinyes:
The last time I did gravel, I was going about 65-70,
In the SE, and I couldnt out run the dust :scewy:

IT"S GONNA SNOW HERE!!!!!! WOHOO!!!!:jump3: they are calling for about 2inches of a slushy snowy mess! I really shouldn't be excited for this but HEY it's SNOW! I have to say i think that jumpy crazy smiley has to be one of my top favorites. Probably since that's how i get after some really good news... or a good cappucino! LOL

I've had limited fun driving RWD cars. My dad's Saturn is RWD and my moms old Grand Marquis was RWD. But i never have had the oppurtunity to do anything crazy with them.
Now on to this out running dust. Are you talking about going fast enough that the dust is way behind your car vs. right ontop of your car?:dunno: I can say I've tried that... and sort of did this yesterday, ( not on purpose) this was on a backroad in the factory area where all the trucks tracked so much dirt on the road it's like driving on a dirt road... so i did a nice dust trail behind myself. :naughty:

well enjoy the day guys, what's left of yours.

we got SNOW! WOHOO! it's only about an inch, with some ice underneath it, so it was slippery as hell this morning. So i wasn't able to have the true experience of driving the 6 in the snow this morning.. but did have some fun with the ice though...! My fiance wasn't though she was apparently getting all the icy spots and kept sliding around this morning in her acura. So I got the unhappy phone call instead. Now i want more snow! Well the day we got that snow in the morning of about an inch, we got another freak blast of snow that night of about an inch. Tonight into tomorrow they are saying ice, freezing rain, sleet and snow mix. it's supposed to be very bad tomorrow morning. Then another bad day like that on thursday. I guess we are finally getting our snow!

I understand now about the dust. I can't quite say i was able to keep it off my car... :uhoh: but then again there are sooo many buildings underconstruction by me it's pretty tough. Oh well... it makes it fun to run through and leave the could behind you!

looks like my GA all dirtied up... hate it -_- ... right when the ice was gone I went to the car wash for a quickie :naughty: and washed that crap off

03 santa fe v6, (I know nothing about this car, but its my moms lol) This morning I had to help her start it... My first try, it was turning, battery was fine, but it was like not getting enough of something... but it was trying really hard... I pumped the gas pedal rapidly opening the TB on/off and went faster... and got it to start up... not sure how the IAC works on it but im sure pretty close to the same... I think it might of been gummy or stuck, after I had started it was idling way below normal so I gave it a few good revs and it was ok afterwards :dunno:

I need to clean the IAC area on my car for sure, I never cleaned inside where it goes when I changed it out w/ the new.

Other than that, I just love the line... "Well I could take YOUR car to work..." (the GA) YEA RIGHT!

I really think she'd have to much fun in it lol

It's a good chance that the IAC is a little gummed up on your moms sante fe. I can't say i know much about them, except they are very roomy and not bad to drive. Otherwise, i know nada about it.

Well today must be car problem day, since my brother couldn't get his mustang started. I laughed at him. ( i know I'm mean like that, But i didn't feel like saying I told you so) hahahah. He's having some type of electrical problem where the battery keeps getting drained.

grfnkl forgot to say your G6 looks good, other then a little dirty.

My GT is covered in Mud on the pass side.

Ya Gir I dont know alot about the santa ge either.
I'd run a half a can of Seafoam(8oz) through the gas tank.

I have been using that stuff latly and its really surprised me.
The GT had this terable lifter tick at start up, and after I poured 2-3 oz into the oil........ its quiet as a kitten, purrrs right alone.

On a side note,
it got u[ to 36 deg last night melted most of the snow and rained making what snow is around hard like Ice. Since now temps are falling and I seen snow flying now :D

Thanks Xi, but the 6 does need a bath badly. Interesting snowman and fort... etc. I would like to have a fair amountof snow here so i can go at least sleigh riding or snowball fighting or something! I need some time to play ! right now it's a snow sleet rain mix here, which won't amount to much, but i guess it's the thought?!!:disappoin This morning though we got nada, just a little sleet right before i left for work... I was quite disappointed:banghead:, I was hoping to call out!

Ya I got poped in the eye by a snowball, that smart.
Over night the piles of snow deminished, though the giant snow ball was unaffected. All day its drissled and is now snowing lightly. I think I over estimated on the size too, maybe 3ft and 250-300 lbs.
This froozen stuff is great for runner sleds :grinyes:
If we get enough I'll pull the kids on a round sled with the 4 wheelr. Thats insane, I'd puke :bloated:

Im just too cool for school!

So uh, I just did a beta test of my own fuel injection cleaning system

1 funnel w/ metal filter and tube (measurement markings on the side) for accurate mixture
Misc metal fittings and tubing
1 metal valve opener to adjust how much is allowed into the vaccume on the PCV

plans are to finish it up with some ties so no leakage, 1 Y split so I can do air and fluid cleaner mix and on that Y will be another valve to allow so much air in... all fitted of course... and somehow fit different

At the moment, its pretty ghetto... I was spraying seafoam from a can into the valve opener so I already had my air/fluid mix.. it'd take its sweet time in the 20ft hose I have bundled up but it'd get to the PCV valve in no time then Id hear the engine start to chug and make noise.. so Id open the throttle just a bit and it'd take it all in and Id have white smoke comin out :grinno:

GUESSING, the seafoam spray wont harm the engine to much... while I still had the straw on the spray I cleaned up the IAC hole a bit.. decided to spray the rest straight into the PCV.. car works fine, no clicks or noises... made some pretty white clouds lol

If perfected, I might write up a review with all parts needed for one to make themself :iceslolan

Yes Seafoam in the oil, about 2-3oz. The throw half the can in to the tank. That stuff is universal. Even can be put into the trans to clean stuck valves.

I realy would not put to much into the PCV.

Most of it just goes out the exhaust and burns up.
Sure its not good on the O2 sensors either.

Best way is to put a hose on the port on the back of the intake,
its on the back pass side of the intake(covered with a cap).
Then pour 2-3oz in a can of sorts and let it suck it up, like the directions say.
Then you shut it off for a few.
My GT ticked very bad , both valves and lifters, its been dead quiet ever since.

That way it all goes into the intake and cleans the carbon out, and cleans up the valves.

Will not clean the injector either of these ways though.
To clean the injectors it needs to go into the gas tank,
or into the shradder valve on the pass side fuel rail.

Can you Say "headers" 3 times realy fast

Was drivin home today, just filled up with some shell 93oct v-power about 6.5gal and right as I pulled out.. seemed peppy as hell... then as I was comin up to a light... the GA almost died on the spot as I came to a complete stop, rpms 300-400ish, just kinda chugged... was like OK wtf... turned left started goin.. the trans is flippin thru gears and im hardly pressing the gas going to up about 45-50... then I smelled something burning, but I didnt know if it was my car or the one in front of me so by this point im freakin out thinking, sh*t, something might be on fire.... I get to a gas station and pull over, inspect the fuel filter area, nothing leaking, checked the engine, all is fine.. gave it a few revs.. still purring like a kitten... drove it out and it did some more weird shifts but cleared up on the way home :dunno:

Spooky business

Previous gas I had in there was 93oct albertsons brand... w/e company they get service from

that was pretty strange their Gir. It must have been some little computer glich or something passing through the system like some debris from the gas tank when you filled up. Something like that can freak you out and make you wonder what's wrong. just keep an eye on it and see if it continues or not. hopefully it's just a one time thing.

xi: I'll try not to forget to shift next time. It's hard though since it doesn't have the lag like a true manual, so I'll end up in 3rd gear for awhile before i realize that i need to shift. plus the car can and does down shift for you when you go below certain speeds, if you don't downshift. that would be my other problem. I don't pay enough attention that it's in a lower gear. this among other reasons is why i got the extended warranty on the car so if i do F something up, Oops, I don't know what happened it just BROKE! HAHAHAH.
The pics on that site is cool. Anything jupiter related or a few other planets, may have been done by my sister.

NIce turbo there!

Ya guys I havent been here because I droped my laptop(was main pc for me) the other day and now its getting replaced. SO in 3-4 weeks I'll get a new one. Luckily that data was recovered before it craped out.

I had to get another pc together at home so I could get back on to the net. Running win98se and trying to update everything :shakehead ... I hate MS! I think its about there though or I wouldnt be on the internet :grinno:
So if I'm not around much you'll know where I'll be... waiting :D

Yep, that would be kyle's turbo g6! I can only imagine what it must be like to drive it with all those horses! I forget how much the turbo kit is going for... maybe I'll swing over to the "otherside" for a little while today and see what's new in G6 land.

Sorry to hear about your laptop. that does suck! I do feel your pain. My laptop is with my girl ( she hijacked it from me) which has my wireless card that i use on my desktop so I can't even go online at home, unless i want to use either dial up or my parents computer... well we'll be here waiting for ya!

Later,

So needless to say I have busy as hell the last two weeks.
I need a vacation down around the equator or where ever its sunny and 80 ...

You think people would learn winter means cold and usually snow. Been pulling knuckle-heads out of the ditch last night/today with bald tires :shakehead

Yeah i would have to agree with that as well! You must be freezin out there though. We are really cold over here in the east. Our highs are in the 20's and lows around 0. which is REALLY cold for us. We arent used to this! Today was the surprise snow... We knew nothing of it, and BAM, you wake up to find a coating of snow! It must have been sloppy seconds for us from your area XI. LOL It's almost quitting time for me! Gonna go home and RELAX!

Gee thanx for that one! Just rub it in a little more why don't you? :slap:. I'll remember this for later when you have 100+ degree weather, and I'm chillen in nice 80-90 degree weather. ( my luck it will be the reverse :banghead: )

We are getting the same thing over here too with the windchill. It was something like -10 the one day over here, and It's supposed to be like that again either today or tomorrow. Jeans and tennis shoes, must feel great in this weather....

so the dealership said like $540 to change out my heater core and hoses... Good price?

I looked ahead into my future and neither me or my best bro would be able to take it all apart in a good amount of time and hope we dont mess up lol or lose a nut ha

so ima stash away some money from my next paycheck ... ill deal with it for 2 weeks and drive like a grandma.. keep the rpms low and then get it done and fixed one saturday all day or w/e

If I keep the rpms low (3000rpms max), the pump isnt building up as much pressure.. sorta noticed that :grinno:
.....bad idea to drive 'normal' :naughty: hehehe

I guess im just lucky that I dont have the puddle of doom on my passenger floor... not a drip for that fact :dunno:

Great... a Drunk Post! LOL  :cwm27: I'm surprised that the post was written clear enough to be able to be read.
Happy B-day Vipey, nothing like that 21st birthday drink, or 10. Sucks for you that you have class this morning... try not to close the book to loud it may hurt your head.

hey gir, that's not a real bad price for a heater core. it's about average. 90% of the price is labor. I think my dad spent like 600+ on his, (on an 87 g/a) and this was through a private garage. So 540 isn't bad. it's just a lot to take apart to get to it. either way good luck if you attempt it.
