Well I finaly got to read that Dex classaction suite.
Sounds like I need to get my receipts out and contact my lawyer. I wonder if I can get back more then one gasket set on the SE.... It was changed at least 3x not counting the last change, when I did them 3x in a week.
Plus the GT...
I guess GM could just give me A GTO and we'd call it even! :evillol:

Hey if anything comes out of that classaction I would be happy. Any money back from the $700 I spent to fix mine would be great! I just don't want any " service coupons" that i've gotten in the past... Thankfully I keep detailed records of any servicing of my cars past or present though! :grinyes: Damn I forgot to call the dealer today and make an appointment for the 6. DAMN IT! :banghead: It's almost 5 I'm not sure If i'll get through now. Tomorrow this is a must do for myself!
Hey vipey you better knock on wood for the LIM comment! if I recall correctly your g/a has ALOT of miles on it and something tells me that the LIM is probably not original... but if it is... well you know. :runaround:

My LIM is original (unless it's part of the 120k mile change)... I got my car at 123,000 and it's at 183,000 and havent had it changed. Transmission is still stock. Engine has never had a problem. Alternator has went out and I had a blown AC resistor thing, and AC compressor broke, wheel bearing went out, but that's about all. I had stock suspension up until 165,000 miles!!! My car is a hoss :p

I put a new LIM at about 80K miles on my g/a so maybe yours was done before you got the car?!!! I think you better knock on a forest of wood now though for "never having a problem". I would have to say that i do give GM credit for building some very long lasting engines when maintained. That's one of the many reasons why i like my 88 G/a. I know that engine will last longer then the rest of the car... and it's proving itself everyday and damn can that car get some awesome gas mileage. I just wish I could get someone to fix it up for me.... I'll pay for it.
Have a great weekend everyone! :smokin:

I'm getting one or the other this summer... the new 08 or 09 WRX or the brand new Lancer Ralliart (made to compete with the WRX)... at least that's my plan right now, for a 3 year lease. When that's up I might buy an evo or an STI...

Lancer's hav been pretty reliable for years, now they also look sporty! :grinyes:
Yeah Gir, the sign a LIM is bad would be loosing coolant, coolant in the oil, oil in the coolant, coolant in the exhaust, constant overheating. You would know.
Probly someone took care of before you got it.
On a side note we got a little snow here lastnight. Its only like 20 deg outside with a nice wind making it feel much colder. SIngle digits tonight.. :eek7:
Vipey, you know how to figure windchill ?

I would go for the WRX... I like the LOOKS of them better then the Lancer.
For the LIM i was losing Oil and coolant?!!! More coolant though, If i had let it go any longer it would have done the engine in!
The other day i had an interesting issue with my girls Acura. I went to go start it and the battery was dead. No big surprise since i hadn't started in about a week and a half and we had a few real cold days. So i hooked up my battery charger the moment i turned it on the stock alarm system starts going crazy. horn beeping somelights flashing like only half the car had power. Meanwhile the car is not supposed to have immediate power like that.... So I un hooked it tried again, agian did this, but i finally got it to reset the stock alarm. Then to add to all of this the charger kicked off after about a minute with a battery fault. I thought great here's the battery being too low fault... NOPE it came back with a faulty internal battery circuit?!! So I tried yet again... and no big deal it charged it up and about a half hour later I could start the car. All the other batteries I've hooked it up too it never charges that fast. I don't know. I think I'll be looking into a new battery for her car.
It's gonna be cold this weekend... stay very very warm everyone!

Yeah Gir you can keep your rain.
I'm tired of the mud that goes along with that rain. :uhoh:
It snowed a little bit lastnight, not very warm out , pretty windy too!!
The stock hp is 170 , thats what GM states.
And speaking of horsepower.....
I was thinking back when Raytec done the dyno on the SE, and it was done with the low settings for normal street driving.
I just need to get a dyno test myself with it all out cause I think it's more then 224hp. :dunno:
ps- Gir, dont kill your transmission . :grinno:

It's still very cold here! Burrr. It was snowing just a little while ago here! YAY! They were saying we are supposed to get rain.. but it's only going to be a high of 36 and a low in the 20's , so i would like to see it rain in those conditions ( yes vipey i know about a warm upper air mass that would cause this:grinno:)
Vipey- the 150hrsp is the 4cyl. Xi is correct for the SE having 170 with the 3.4l...
Tomorrow I'm bringing the 6 into the dealer. I'm having some "issues" that I want addressed to them... like the anitfreeze smell when i turn the heat on which eventually goes away, and why the tranny lags, slips and clunks everyday and is the worse when i make a right turn... so we'll see what the outcome is. But maybe it's just me... maybe i'm :screwy:. :grinno:

Yip 99-05 GA SE -170hp, the GT is 175hp.
But if you were to dyno a stock one the hp would most likly be higher then whats printed from GM. Its for insurance purposes. ;)
I was thinking back in the 70's they rated some big V8s heller lower then what they were.
I wouldnt mind having 350hp when they said it was only 200hp.

Did you loose them or something ?

yea, the rated is 170hp, I was just wondering if theres ever been a stock dyno... so I can get an estimate of what my mods have made gains on.. cause the 188whp still stands lol and I havent bought anything else. If I were to I'd start buying parts from Milzy and start working on the motor itself, since mostly everything else is covered as far as a grand am goes.. just need S&Sheaders to finish the exhaust really. With milzy I could do heads, cam, upper/lower intake... even just stageI would be ok with me but I'm still saving for new car =).
at my work, since Im working through a temp agency, they informed us that a few of our people are being removed from Apple, but i'm staying.. because I score 90-95 in my QA with supervisors lol. And havent been late either in the few months Ive been there. I wish they'd just hire me on lol, but we'll see how that goes... just gotta keep showing up doing good
Ive been looking at the Scion TC's engine from the camry, its just a bit modified for scion's marketing of customization.. which is nice. They're making %100 efficient turbo kits at just 7 or 8psi, with upgrades can well take the boost up to 15lbs and those are making gob loads of HP with just a turbo... I dont know how to explain it but the ratio of pounds per square inch equals a higher ratio of horsepower... meaning you dont need tons of boost to get to a high HP number.. but also means... kaboom! if something isnt tuned right haha.

Hey Gir since you don't work for apple directly do you still get discounts? I got a call from apple a few months ago about a job offering, but I never applied to them so I don't know how they got me!
So I brought the 6 in this morning... but I didnt quite make it to the dealer in running condition. The car broke down directly across the highway from the dealer  :banghead:. The car suddenly jerked, I heard the chime noise... then i see the check engine light is on, trac off, and I think brake all came on. The DIC said reduced power. So I crawled at a brisk 10 mph down the road with no engine power and no power steering into the u-turn and down the other side of the highway to the dealer. Right now they have the car and they told me that the Electronic Throttle body shorted out. This should be the route of all my problem. I'll know more when i pick up the 6. But i did get a rental... and Nice 2008 Chevy Trailblazer. I don't know how i manage to get these monsters of trucks as rentals. :uhoh:

Yesterday I replaced a quick disconnect that goes to the heater core, even tho my heater core isnt being used for the past year or so lol.... I guess the other day in the rain having fun lol... moved the internal plastic piece in the huge plastic thing that clips onto the metal. Basically made the leak I already knew about... worse? :) and it was a constant drip, even just in idle so I quickly found a piece at a local chevy dealer, whom had 3 in stock .. bought it and installed it, drained pretty much all of my coolant on the driveway lol and put on the new piece, tightened the hose and refilled with coolant before it got too dark and it started to rain. Mission Accomplished. lol

Hey guys, I emailed Milzy about the superchargers, and he recommend I buy his turbo kit instead when it's done. Apparently, this is what it comes with (here's his exact email to me):
I'm thinking the kit is going to end up around $4k for a very complete kit
which even comes with fuel injectors, fuel pump, and pcm. There will
probably be a couple options for upgrades, but this will come with a big
bar and plate intercooler, as well as all the other components, and a
Garrett T3/T4 turbo. it's all high-quaity parts and the hot parts all get
ceramic coated. If you need more info on this, let me know.
Mike
 WOW!!!! Big freaking turbo for a grand am! I might just have to buy this to watch my transmission fly into pieces... better keep it away from your SE XI, Rensselaer might charge you to rebuild the pavement you send flying behind you

doesnt surprise me, when you look at the first G6s that came out, the engine design itself is just a redesigned grand am, hopefully with all the flaws taken out lol - Awesome fact to know tho, you'd just have to fashion it up

Yeah...
I have a coolant leak...
and it's the gasket. F@#$ :crying:
So now I get to decide if I want to try to make the gasket last until the summer when I get the WRX, or get the GA fixed now, or get my engine rebuilt, ported and polished, etc. while the engine is already being taken apart...
what to do?! :( It was just a matter of time before I had the gasket problem, but hell, my grand am has lasted so friggin long without it, I thought my gasket was invincible :(
My vote is to have my engine rebuilt... but the problem is... what do I do about the camshaft? Should I buy a new cam with the port and polish work I'll get done? How much more hp will the cam add?

My vote is to have my engine rebuilt... but the problem is... what do I do about the camshaft? Should I buy a new cam with the port and polish work I'll get done? How much more hp will the cam add?

that sucks, sorry to hear
if you were to have it rebuilt with the new MMS stuff, id say do it now if you have the money and you dont need the GA to drive around for a while. Personally I'd go with just stageI stuff if its available and P&P heads and UIM/LIM
till then, Id recommend of course, treating ur GA like a baby till you're ready to get it built or have the gasket replaced.... Also see if you can find the part# of the gaskets that have the metal and such
the cam will open the valves up a great deal, It wouldnt surprise me if quoted from MMS that it'd open it up 25-40HP or something in that range, but with doing that you'll always run into the issue of upgrading other parts of your engine's system. Idk what precaution you would take :dunno:

WOW!!!! Big freaking turbo for a grand am! I might just have to buy this to watch my transmission fly into pieces... better keep it away from your SE XI, Rensselaer might charge you to rebuild the pavement you send flying behind you
Yeah that's the same size as the super charger blower!
Same as the other turbo kit that was available a year ago price is about the same too.
I think my trans will hold up with another 50-80 HP. :grinyes: But my engine might not. Lol
I see they talk about the G6 trans on the net quite a bit. check this one out...
2008 F40 (MU9)
General Motors Powertrain-Europe F40 six-speed manual car transaxle
2008 Model Year Summary
Carryover Features and Benefits from 2007 model year
DETENT SYSTEM FOR QUICKER AND EASIER SHIFTING
The addition of a ball-and-spring-type detent on the shift sleeve and detents on the shift rail assists the driver in shifting quicker. The detent raises the force required to move the shift lever which prevents excess movement of the shifter by the driver, and reduces the chance of double bump. Tension between the shift sleeve and the shift rail also prevents the sleeve from vibrating while in gear.
GEAR RATIO CHANGES FOR QUICKER ACCELERATION
To adapt the F40 to North American applications and maximize performance, 3rd through 6th gears have been changed to higher-ratio gears starting in 2007 model year. The ratio for 3rd gear is now 1.37:1, and the ratio for 4th gear is no longer an overdrive, with a new ratio of 1.05:1. The 5th gear ratio is 0.85:1 and the 6th gear ratio is 0.71:1.
LOW MAINTENANCE
The MT2/MU9 uses a Castrol Burmah (BOT 0063) manual transmission fluid, and is validated as "fill-for-life". No maintenance is required for normal operation.
OVERVIEW
Originally a design developed for Fiat, Opel and Saab applications, the F40 (MT2) is a GM Powertrain - Europe six-speed manual transaxle built in Russelsheim, Germany. Its first use in a North American application was the Pontiac G6 for the 2006 model year. It is also used in some Saab 9-3 and 9-5 models.
It is a three-axis design, with first, second, fifth, and sixth gears on an output shaft behind and below the input shaft, and third and fourth gears are on an output shaft in front of and above the input shaft. Both output shaft pinions drive a helical gear with a conventional differential. The clutch is mounted on a dual-mass flywheel to dampen vibrations on whichever output shaft is idle depending upon which gear is selected.
The F40 is cast in aluminum, and weighs 124 pounds (see specs). It has been certified for up to 400 Nm of engine torque.
Triple-cone synchronizers are used on 1st and 2nd gears. These synchronizers have three friction surfaces, which increase their ability to transfer the flow of torque more smoothly from one gear to another. Synchronizers act as clutches to speed up or slow down the gearsets that are being shifted to, and greater friction area results in easier shifting for the driver. The 3rd, 4th, and reverse synchronizers are double-cone, while the 5th and 6th gear synchronizers are single-cone. All of the friction surfaces on the synchronizer rings are sintered bronze. The ratios in the 6-speed are widely spaced for versatile performance and efficiency.
What motor in the G6 has the 6 speed , a V6 ???
I guess I answered this one...

Also if you look up on the firewall of your GA's guys you will see thier is already a clutch bracket mount, not hard to go from thier.
Just get a 4cyl clutch components , and or for the F40 trans and mount it all up.
Sorry to hear your ill'n Gir! :grinno:
J/K !!
I've been out layin around on the ground about everyother damn day. I should be sick but just havnt caught the bug.
Vipey on the cam, I wouldnt unless you get the stage 1 or 2 heads, it helps the valves and everything work better.
It also makes the valves open longer and quicker so you get optimum performance.
Keep your reciepts if you get the LIM changed!!
I dug up all mine the other day. Fixing to call the lawyers listed on that Dexcool site and see where they are at with the proceedings. I'm hoping you can file without paying an attorny a boatload of cash, I hate those guys... :sly:

Didn't i say not to jinx yourself there vipey??? I know i said it... I'm sure i said it. Seriously though sorry to hear that. Depends on how bad the leak is will depend on how long you can baby it. I think I was able to last about 2 months on the leak i had before i blew the gasket further. I say do everything at once if you have the money now!
For the g6 trans... I know the 3.9L V6 ( which is the engine i have) has the 6 speed trans ( I only have a 4 spd auto though :frown: ) I believe the 3.6L v6 also has a 6 speed trans as well. I am unsure if they both have the same tranny's or not, but i would assume that they are the same.
Hey XI keep us posted on any findings about the Dexcool classaction if you find anything out. I'll have to dig out my old reciept too for it as well.

P0453........ EVAP fuel tank pressure sensor high input
is on my to-do list now, after taking my girl home being sick... I knew something is messed up with my tank from when I had issues earlier with my fuel.. they didnt put something back together correctly back there. Everytime I went over a slight bump i'd hear it hit something on the car's body.. my guess is that the fuel pump isnt secure or something stupid that'll allow it to vibrate to engine vibrations and goes up/down on bumps... its been doing this since I got it back, just now its making more noise than ever (thats include the engine vibration, drives me crazy just waiting in idle)
Good thing im taking care of it tomorrow already as planned heh

yea ive heard of that mantapart site, but under engine stuff I really just see alot for the 3.1L
that grand am tho must kick some butt with that supercharger on there, I wonder what kind of oil hes using in it.... thats a lot of work for a grand am and money to just get 285whp on 5psi....
With a scion tc, slap on a 8psi turbo and have it be daily driven with the same amount of power with much room to upgrade.
Those scion guys have been getting crazy building up the bottom end of the 2.4L ... I think I saw one boosted up to 22psi ? and made over 500whp I believe, with all these outstanding results from just a boosted application I might have to re-think my car strat lol... been putting it all together AND tax season is here, with the extension of my job, I could be good to go for a down payment in a month or two :grinno:

Yeah its kinda strange realy, he's making that with stage 3 heads and the SC, thats only 61hp more then me @ o boost.
It usualy breaks down to about 1 psi =10hp so he's not far off. The motor is definatly ready for some hella HP tho. :evillol:
And he has spent a small fortune. :screwy:
I noticed MMS stage 2 kit, you get alot of bang for your buck! If you bought everything seperatly it would be twice as much.
That's where I saved, I did all the engine, heads, LI myself.
I realy need to pull my motor and do the bottom end IDK.... :banghead: :runaround:
Dont forget your other tax check from GWB2!
Huummmm... that might just cover new pistons , rods, a crank and bearings, thankx GWB2 !!
