grfnkl , sounds like you've been a little busy. lol

Im ready for some sun, its been a loooong winter up here! Kinda feel sorry for those up north-east who got all that snow...kinda. lol

Lame winter is finally over!!! Woohoo!

'Speed 6 still cruisin, hit a giant ass pothole and bubbled a tire, had to get it replaced (tire I just put on in September... laaame). Don't understand why I pay Illinois taxes just to see potholes the size of Neptune.

Wish I lived back near Purdue where things were cheap!

Also can't wait to put on my summer tires I bought back in October... should make on-ramps and off-ramps SUPER FUN!

Other fun note, my dad had a cardiac arrest back in September and they found it was from a rare genetic disorder that causes electrical issues with the heart. 50% chance to pass on to kids.

Just found out Wednesday I got it too :/

So for the next month, at the ripe old age of 29, I get to wear a heart monitor with 3 sticky electrodes attached to my chest and wires running out my shirt to monitor my heartbeat. The EKG at the office showed an abnormality so I have it for sure, but whether or not I'll just randomly drop dead one day without warning like my dad did (they revived him and he's fine thank god) is still a mystery.

Not fun being a potential time bomb!

Hope everyone else is having a better week than I did (where I also had to work an extra 10+ hours this week without overtime pay)!

Vippy, that sucks bro! Sorry to hear about your dad and the health issues! :( Guess you could think about it like this, at least you know you have the gene and can do things right now to greatly improve health and keep from having problems down the road.

I was born with a heart murmur, but it doesnt effect me unless i consume very large amounts of caffeine. other stimulants dont seem to cause it to flop around. i have a family history of major heart issues and it used to worry me but not so much. I realized most of them lived a sedimentary lifestyle, meaning they didnt get much exercise or no cardio.... unless being chased by bulls. :p
I just 'try' to eat right, stay away from processed or fast foods. limit GMO and herbicide stuff, which is very difficult when they hide their ingredients.
I actually run 2-3 miles on treadmill 3x a week, and me and my boys do strength training with free weights 3-4x a week. Its really improved my health! lowered cholesterol below 100 w/o meds! Ive fixed my back problems too, mostly.

On a lighter note. MY kids were listening to Shady XV and i swore this one song said something about running someone over in a Grand Am...And it did! lmao

Well springs here and that damn snow and cold is finally gone! It was to worst for me in years! got frostbite 5x luckily they didnt have to amputate anything. :cwm27:
A Couple weeks and I'll be mushroom hunting. Morels should be poppin up soon as the temps get into the upper 60s low 70s. I dont like them myself but i know lots of people who'll enjoy them. And I get a chance to be in the woods, its my first best place to be, second being street racing. :evillol:

Hope everyone had a great Easter! Summers right around the corner.

Damn, I need to pop in here more often!

Sucks to hear about the heart complication vipey, sounds crazy :screwy:

Funny you mention XI your heart murmur, I had a valve that did not want to close when I was born. They eventually got it going but its definitely been in the back of my mind now that I'm getting older. 28th birthday 07/04/15 woo! :naughty:

Lately I've been trying to get outside more, do hikes. I 'want' to run though motivation is lacking. 2015 Financial terms haven't been the best, GF of 5 years left me back in April. Living with a buddy till I get back on my feet BUT HERE'S THE KICKER :runaround:

I've had my 04' mazdaspeed miata at BEGi since Jan. 8th of this year. Just before July 4th when I went to go pickup my vehicle... It decided to spin bearing #4. Rod was damaged, bearing was not recognizable. So now as a cherry on top I am doing a motor rebuild.

Supertech Pistons 83.5MM 9.5:1 CR
Manley H-Beam Rods
Clevite Bearings

Can't wait till it's all over. Stop spending money, reverse debts and enjoy life :sunglasse

Thankful I have a steady job, that's for damn sure.

Has anyone here watched Falling Skies series?

I didnt start watching it til last year, watching most back to back. Then I noticed that from season 1 until season 4 i saw the same Grand Am's and Alero's used over and over until they were smashed beyond recognition. I guess they are cheap to pick up these days.

Ya Gir, relationships can FU your economy, worse than Obumer

Motor rebuild is still in progress.

So like previously mentioned...

Supertech pistons 9.5CR 83.5mm
Wiseco XX Rings 8350
Manley connecting rods
(New to me) 2002 22k mile crankshaft 1.8L
Cleavite Bearings + OEM Thrustwasher
Boundry Engineering Street oil pump (billet gears)
"Good casted propeller" Water pump + Timing belt & Pulleys.

Thankful the head was ok, just needs to be cleaned up and resurfaced.

New turbo CHRA, GT2860 with 10psi internal wastegate.

I estimate it should do at least 230-250hp to the wheels :pimp:

thats awesome Gir ! Sure beats the old Grand Am.

Ive been so busy I havent even washed any of my personal vehicles in 6 months or more. working like a dog 16-18 hrs a day for the last year is really getting old.

Ive got a white 03 Grand Am GT with the SCT appearance package.
Im thinking about keeping it and going crazy with the mods. Got a block about ready and my old 3.5 stg 2 heads are ready to go. Trans is also ready to rock n roll. I just cant decide if i want to bore the block out any more. :naughty:

53731

Ive also got a junked Aztec AWD w a dead engine.... i might make a awd grand am :evillol: :smokin:

But that'll have to wait fora couple months. Taking a vacation the first of the month and I might be lazy when i get back. lmao

so Ive been thinking more about the AWD Grand AM. It's very doable!

The other question is it legal to drive. lmao
But who would know, the BMV doesn't look at the car really... :uhoh:

theirs only 1" difference in wheel base between the Aztek and Grand Am. And thats not a big issue since the drive shafts should make up the difference. If nothing else i'll have to make new ones a little longer. I just wonder how much HP the AWD can take. I think i'll buy a Aztek and just see. I know someone who has one cheap, needs a starter but they dont want to spend $120 fixing it. :naughty:

see what i can do this weekend :evillol:

WHEEEE!

Considering a Q60 Red Line (400 hp AWD). Traded my Mazdaspeed 6 for a Toyota Rav4 (V6... 260 hp). Not regretting it because powerful and useful. But now I want to turn my Subaru in and get a Q60!!!

Eventually :)

It's been a while since I've posted here! I'm still around just busy with work, home and kids. We have 4 cars now! Still have the 97 civic but not for much longer that's being given away to family. Still have the 04 RSX and the 09 RDX. The newest edition though is a 17 Accord Touring V6. That car is unreal! The power that it puts out is crazy. The car is actually scary fast something I never thought I'd say about a Honda. You floor it the car gets up goes while spinning the tires but the power is so great the car pulls you all over the place. I spun my wheels while driving when I went to pick up speed to pass someone. I haven't even take the car out of eco mode and put it into sport. I see that you guys don't come on often... hope all is well.

Still around! I check these forums every couple months to see who is still around, though it's basically dead :(

Still miss my grand am sometimes. I can still remember what it was like to drive it... the feel of the seats and the shifter, my audio system, etc... even though I have now driven other cars more mileage probably.

New goal now is to get a Kia Stinger GT2. The Q60 appears to be unreliable so I will go with a car with a 100k powertrain warranty. Should be getting it in the spring, now that I have no more debt! Then the Legacy, after 10 years of service, shall get retired. Which I originally bought to replace my grand am.

Life goes so fast... :crying:

I think Im going to be moving down to kensucky, na few months. Its gonna suck hauling tools and my automotive projects around the sides of slippery mountains. :runaround: Gonna do some organic farming. :naughty:

Awesome that you're traveling XI! My wife and I have started traveling internationally once per year, for the past few years - New Zealand, France, Switzerland, Germany twice, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic, UK, and next year Croatia, Bosnia, and Slovenia. We live in a small house but spend our time and money traveling instead of buying things...

...with the exception of the Tesla Model 3 AWD we bought in March :)

Sold the Subaru, got the Tesla, zero regrets. I did like the Subie but it was soooo slow.

I can't believe I was on these forums when I got it ten years ago... I remember being so happy I got it. Was still in college at the time too. I can't remember if I even announced I got a V6 RAV4 back in 2016 when I traded in my 'Speed 6... I think I did? That car still works fine too, it's a toyota so it's never going to break... probably going to outlast the Tesla lol.

How times have changed...

Anyone else still around? Haven't heard from Gir in a long time. I was friends with him on AIM but AIM is dead now :(

Happy New Year everyone!

IDK about those Cybertrucks...or Teslas for that matter.
I really dont think they're any "greener" than a gas engine automobile since they mostly charge at home on the petrol grid. Have toxic batteries made from chemikills mined by slave labor in some third world country, and all that plastic. Lol

ON a brighter note; The Nissan GTR has a wheelbase of 109". The Grand Am GT sedan is 107".
So can one stuff the drive train from a GTR under a grand am? Whats 2", right? :grinyes:

congrats, on the 21st century truck.. i just pre-ordered from Elon too..
but mine was just StarLink; as here in rural colorado, not as many bullets as snowflakes, but real sucky dial-up plus speeds..

man, i envy some of your travels you posted.. i've spent 12 yrs travelling; but since it was militaristic involved, most were not tourist destinations..

enjoy the electric truck.. i kinda like the Lordstown; but i'll probably afford the retro-fit cruze package for my S10..

As much as I want a CT, I'm canceling my order. Just bought a new house a few months ago, and while it would fit, it would be too scary to do daily. Going to go with a Y instead I think... same price more or less but smaller. I'm trying to transition away from gas/oil products all together (battery powered mower and snowblower now in my possession which work great), more so for not having to store gas and oil than anything else... and simpler to work with.

I will always miss my Grand AM though, and the rockin' audio system I had.

I didn't get to travel last year, had to cancel everything. Sucked, but - first world problems. Still alive, got my final Pfizer last week, hopefully I'll be able to do SOME travel SOMEWHERE (even if it's just the south) later this year.

All of these are really first-world problems though so I'm not complaining too much, lots of peoples' best days would kill for some of these worst days that any of us have.

Glad to see everyone is still alive!!!!!! Especially you Xero, thought you vanished over in that Chalmers/Rensselaer area :lol2:

congrats on new home.. yea, most of my power tools are battery, and i charge the batteries to and from home in my GMC Hybrid..
and i agree, even though Cadillac had the Bose, my Ponchos had rippin stereo systems..
i do not think hardly anyone got to travel last year.. it did suck, but i stayed up in the rockies and just did home improvement.. at least got stuff done..
yea, i sometimes complain about all the snow, but definitely have it better than the rest of the planet..
and i didn't know xero was that far south. i have family farther east; in the muncie area.
hope spring has come for you back there; we've still got snow for another month..

I’m not sure what possessed me to check in here but I see everyone is doing well! I know it’s been sometime since I’ve posted but I’m doing well. The wife, kids and I just recently moved to Texas. Starting a new chapter in our lives. We left the hurricanes of NC behind us to deal with tornadoes! Yay!

For car related information, We still have our Acura RDX. We really don’t drive it that much. It’s sitting at 110k miles and it’s a 2009! It’s having a starting issue recently that’s stumping mechanics so out of caution I don’t drive it a lot just because I’m new to the area and don’t want to get stuck. I drive a 2017 accord touring ( that car is fun to drive)! Just the right amount of sporty looks, with all the comfort inside and a very powerful v6. My old civic we gave to my wife’s niece. My wife’s RSX was totaled in a car accident almost two years ago. A guy was cut off, swerved into the next lane from t boning a car that cut across the road, my wife’s lane slowed down and he plowed right into the back of her. As bad as the car looked the frame wasn’t bent, both rear quarters didn’t even buckle or dent. What did the car in was he hit the car dead center in the rear and crushed the rear hatch deck lid in, apparently those cost almost 3000$. So we said goodbye to that and got a fully loaded Honda Pilot with the tv in the back for the kids. I do miss my old grand am more so for the looks of the car. I did manage to track it down to about where it was last located. It finally died or given up on in Mississippi back in 2014. I saw it was issued a junk title. Just prior the car had a new oil pump put in and a bunch of motor work which I bet lead to its demise. The town that it was in I can almost guess which junk yard it ended up at. My g6 I tracked down to Kalamazoo, Michigan. Not sure the fate of that car exactly. It was last registered in 2019 and was only driven 600 miles between 2018&2019 and never registered since then. Not sure it it died, was parked some place or what. I’ve searched the vin for pictures seeing it was up for sale nothing. It kind of just faded away.

Other then that we are surviving and trying to be as safe as we can!

Vipey1337
08-27-2021, 09:08 PM
Cool that you were able to track your cars down!!!

I want to do the same thing with my Grand AM but I'm 100% sure it's junked - it had over 200,000 miles in 2013 when I gave it up, just after I moved to the Chicago area. It's probably rotting in a junkyard or crushed into a cube somewhere. Such a shame, so many memories - I got it two weeks before the Sept 11th attacks, and my grandpa gave it to me cheap.

My Mazdaspeed is probably still out there, and I know for sure my Legacy is because it was a great car. Other than that - just sitting in my house, trying not to die of COVID, and probably going to try to have kids of my own soon. About damn time, my wife and I are in our mid-30's now!

Can't believe I was posting on these forums when I had just started college... or maybe even before!!!!

grfnkl
08-28-2021, 10:32 AM
It’s easy to find more information on old cars and even current cars. I use the mycarfax app. Just put in the vin and bam you get the history of the car as long as it went to a shop the reported the work they did (I also use it on my current cars to remind me when I get oil changes tire rotation etc). I did use carfax itself on a few cars but I had free access to that at the time. My wife had a 2000 civic si in that blue everyone likes before her rsx. It was stolen and stripped… come to find out someone bought it fixed it and is still driving it today in Canada. I’ve been trying to track it down but whoever owns it keeps moving around will drive it for a year or two then park it for a while.

It interesting that you got your grand am 2 weeks before 9/11 because I bought mine about three week before 9/11. I remember the very first car wash I gave it was on 9/10.

For covid we are trying our best to be safe about it. We are both vaxxed but my wife is still considered high risk so we are being extra cautious because you never know. Plus my one daughter is prone to getting sick… like this past week she caught something and the Drs really thought it was covid but it’s just a bad upper respiratory infection that came on quickly. When you are ready for kids you will know. Age is just a number, but I will say it’s easier when you are younger. Also any big things you want to do like world vacations, house renovation etc due them before kids because it’s not happening for the first 3-5 years. You can still travel with kids to get them used to it but the amount of stuff you bring is overwhelming.

i refused to participate in the covid games. But i tried like hell to catch it! FR!
... well, if i did catch it i never got sick. Ive never been tested nor have i took their bs vaccines. I only wore a mask once when i took a friend to the hospital.
My gf made a mask out of crocheted yarn that you could see thru. And i made one out of a big black lace D cup bra... you could see thru it too. :p

My youngest son did get it though, and was sick in Feb 2020 until May 2020. I was ready to fly to wuhan and kick some ass! LOL It took him months to recover at home and still has a cough today.
Its kind of fu how even caught it. But he works for a county highway in Indiana, and a guy that rode with him got it at a bday party, didnt know for weeks. It took two weeks before my son got sick. He had been working nights right before this job, so he had really low vitamin D, sleeping all day no Sun shine. And his dr confirmed that.

That is the common thing between all that i know who've got really sick or died.
Its prob why it affects people of color more than Caucasian(can i even say that word?lol) This seems to be something not discussed by mainstream media. But no one gets rich off vitamins! Every body is ca$hing in on it! :screwy:

Apparently where my son lives a professor and some students from the local college were in china from Nov 2019 thru new years 2020, and came back sick.
Then the professor was at some lodge for a birthday party and spread it to over 100 people. Including the guy who rode with my son. I swear its like some F'ing plague invasion movie.

At that point no one in the US was really talking about it. But non-US news was talking about it, how it cleared all those protesters off the streets in china. Which their military couldnt do.
i think the crap would have been over if the vaccinated wasnt creating the variants, or what the govt calls "break through cases" and spreading those around more. More deadly than the original strain.
IMO Its a scamdemic! the shitty part is our tax $ paid for the R&D of covid19.

damn enough of that bs its stressing me out! :iceslolan

But I loved it last year!!! Traveling was f'ing great!
No traffic no cops pay at the pump and go! :smokin:
I was up in the Rocky mountains n colorado for a few weeks last summer, it was breathtaking, literally.
Gas was cheaper , food was too, if you could find somewhere open. Now places that were 24 hr are closing by 10-11 pm even on weekends. bastards :grinyes: And TG for hybrids ! :ylsuper: My buddy has one we took on our vacation last year.

Mostly Im driving an F150 right meow, its a gas hog. But Im usually hauling or pulling something. Though i have other automobiles to drive. Ive got a couple grand am gt's that look great but dont move on their own. typical GA . lol Im not sold on any electric vehicles. Sure they are quick but to damn expensive for their short range.Maybe i should build my own... :eek7:

Im still thinking about moving to kensucky or tannessee. I need to find a few hundred acres, or a huge abandoned factory like you see in a few of those Ken Block videos. :grinno: But they'd prob shut me down after 1 day n night of racing. :naughty: :evillol:

Well IM running on, need to switch to decaff :headshake Im glad everyone is still around and didnt die from the covids.

Hopefully things get better next year. But things could get crazier, you never know these days.

How's life for everyone? We welcomed our first child into the world about 3 months ago (about damn time, I'm in my mid 30's now lol). Lots of change, that's for sure. Prob going to eventually get two SUVs of some sort because my knee is f_d up and getting in and out of a low vehicle is uncomfortable, and my wife has hip dysplasia so similar story there.

Wheeeeeee man I miss when this forum was super active, those were good times. That was like... 15 years ago?

wow, now that you mention it it was half your life ago. Lol

I want to be young again :(

Hope all is well!

Ive been busy as a MF! Im in Arizona now visiting my youngest daughter. She's been living her summers up in McCarthy Alaska, she usually goes back to Indiana for the winter/Holidays. But this year she said Fuck the cold and snow, and will spend 3-4 months here before heading back to McCarthy.
Which Im killing a few birds with one stone here. My buddy lives up in the Flagstaff, its a tad bit nippy up there! The air seems thin too?! Maybe its just the cigarettes? Lmao
He has a couple old cars he's wanting to sell cheap, xero rust, so Im checking those out. Im driving a '07 Dodge 3500 Cummins 4x4, so i think I'll be able to haul them back to Indiana. These diesel prices are rolling me for broke driving this big mf 3500 acrossed the country! I bought a 2 car trailer today a lot cheaper here than back near home. Though it might be stolen? The crackheads that sold it to me(with a tittle) looked like they hadnt slept, or eat, in a week or two

Oh the 30s... i remember them like it was yesterday. Change is good for you, or so they say.
I think if you're going to have kids, its better to get it out of the way early! it would suck to be 85 yrs old at your kids high school graduation. Lmao

I have to many damn vehicles! Ive got a couple '03 Grand Am GTs and an '05 GTP, and a long list of other bs including a couple airplanes. Bought a totaled 2015 Vette last year just for the suspension/brake parts, for a project Ive been slowly working on. Hardly been home since the scamdemic started. It was great when no one was on the road and gas prices were around $2 a gallon.
Oh yeah, I also bought this shitty Aztec, looks like Walter Whites from breaking bad. Im gonna do this AWD Grand Am if it F'ing kills me! Not today though...prob not tomorrow either.

So how's that build back better treating everyone??! :naughty::crying::shakehead :runaround:

I was lookin to buy this 650-ish acer plot in Eastern Kensucky. So i need some ca$h fast! Lol If i get it, I think Im going to build a small road course, around 2 miles long? I just hope i get it all done before the Alien invasion :cwm27:

What a last year... my son is 13 months, my wife just got diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer (we're in our mid 30's...), and my company is making us all come back into work after i've been working from home for nearly 4 years. Outside of our son being the most chill kid ever, the last two years have been horrible and I'd like to forget they ever existed. Hopefully in two years this will all be back to normal and it can just be a big nightmare.

Best of luck in all your trials. It sounds like you have plenty.

Gotta post so there's at least one post here in 2024!

Wife currently in remission for cancer, getting hip replacements in a month. Mind you, she's only 37.

At least things are currently looking up!

Just got new tires for the Tesla, wanted to sell it for a Honda Ridgeline, but my company is making me go back to work 3 days a week, so I might as well drive an electric car and pay virtually nothing to drive it. But I want a truck now :(

I miss my Grand AM, especially my audio system I had in it. Hope everyone still thinks of their Grand AMs and smile :)

Hope everyone is continuing to live the dream :)

Sad how dead AutomotiveForums is. I miss the days 20 years ago. Damn, basically half my life ago.
