I use a bluetooth headset. It is safe as I make a point to pay attention to my surroundings.

Hands free or not, what the study was saying is that both are not safe. Rather ,it is the conversations the people are having on them. Some people get so emotional or in tune to the call that they forget what is going on around them. I've seen this happen too with pedestrians walking downtown with a phone or a Bluetooth, and they are so engrossed in their conversation, they walk right off the sidewalk into the roadway or other places that put them in danger without even looking. One more reason I stay out of downtown.

When I am not talking on my cell phone there is times that I miss my exit. But when I am talking on my cell phone I don't miss my exits. You are right I would say that 99.9% of the people are very careless when talking on their cell phones. I cringe when I drive the expressway with construction zones. The f**in truck driver hate to drive the 45 mph speed limit. They have thrown things at me run me off the road. Then the drivers that are eating it a real hazard too. I call the State Police and they never catch them. But I get pulled over for no seat belt on and the trucks are whizzing by at, at least 60 mph. Downtown Chicago is turning into a waste land. I stay away too.

...and using a cellphone while driving (http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/43337/97/) is just as bad as driving drunk!

Yeah people driving and on the phone do seem like they're drunk. Why is it always some tiny chick driving a giant SUV, with no regards to others on the road or even traffic signals. :screwy: :runaround:

Indiana just passed a law where teenagers can not use their phone while driving, includes no texting. If they get caught it's a stiff fine plus they lose their licence for a while.

I personaly try not to talk or text while driving. But I still do take calls or text while driving, occasionally. :cwm27:

When I am driving I never do any texting of any kind. That is just too dangerous, just like putting on makeup. The other day I had an incident, a lady was all over the road almost hitting people. I have no clue of what she was doing. She almost hit a pace bus(public transportation) but instead of pulling her over. I was the one to get pulled over for no seat belt. It was the local police department and the ticket was only $25 so that is not bad.

Yes it can be dangerous, but so is crossing the road. I usualy stick to textin at lights, especialy long ones. Though I have pulled right over and stopped so I could. Hell it could be against the law here now for everyone, I have no clue.

You could have something like this happen, and not even know it. This guy couldnt figure out why his car was overheating. :loser:

ABC just ran a story on their nightly news (just checked the site for a link to the story to post here but it isn't up yet) concerning texting while driving. The government ran a study with commercial truck drivers and the results found that the average time a driver's eyes are off the road reading a text is 5 seconds. If they are driving 55 mph, the amount of road covered while their eyes are off the road is the length of a football field . Another study also found that of all the accidents in the US, roughly 24% were caused by driver inattention due to texting, while both driving drunk or on a cell phone only accounted for 4% of the accidents, making texting much worse than drunk driving.
The Federal government is in the process of passing a bill banning texting for those who operate mass transit ( trains, buses, subways, etc.) due to previous serious accidents in different parts of the country over the past few years. I'm sure this could eventually lead to a nationwide ban on all texting while driving if more states ( currently only 14 have any laws on the books banning texting while driving,)do not enact laws concerning this.

Hey guys...

So I finally decided to get a new vehicle. Can't seem to make the Grand Am's service engine light go away, and it accels really weirdly, and it's at 199,000 miles. Plus my dad's lease runs out in two weeks and needs another vehicle, so I offered to let him drive my GA for a while until he got another one... helps him out financially as well!

So yesterday I finally signed the lease.... a black 2009 Subaru Legacy Special Edition. Virtually no extras except the spoiler. It's not as fast as my GA of course, but boy will it be nice in the winter, especially north of where you live XI

I'm still keeping my grand am, I'm just going to let my dad drive it for a while, and then make it a "project car" where I tear down the engine and make it evilly fast with newer parts :evillol: but yeah, now I'm poor but at least I could get the lease without needing a cosigner... only paying $176 a month right now  Might buy it when I'm done with it but not sure at the moment, but I LOVE it, it's so much fun to drive right now, even if its torque is way less than my modded GA :p

That said I'll still hang around here hehe :) You won't get rid of me that easily!

Yeah Tom I saw something simular on NBC lightlynews, it is a scarry thought a semi driver texting! :yikes:
Remeber though, some people cant chew gum and drive.

Hey Congrats Vipey!!

I about got taken in the SE by this newr little VW the other night, I swear it had a turbo or something ?!!
Beat a 08 SRT all pimped a few weeks ago.
Well I kept teasing him from light to light, the passenger kept waving me on and laughing. Well the light turned and I hit it pretty hard, so did he, and all the sudden I heard something on his car pop and he lost all power. He couldnt even drive 30mph, had traffic all backed up ! He was probly surprised the GA SE jumped acrossed the intersection so quickly. :p

That is how my wife got injured in the rail road yard. Works for BNSF. This truck driver entered the crossing, she was blow the horns, So she creamed the trailer and there was cheese and cheese cake all over, even though she was only going 5 mile per hour. She was moving 3 locomotives, it takes much longer to stop. The truck driver was so fin stupid he yelled do you think I can stop on a dime. He too was talking on a cell phone. Now how long does it take to stop 3 locomotives, I bet that the distance is way more than a semitruck, you think.

I liked this part of that article;
The truck then crashed through a fence and sideswiped a house before rolling front-end first into an in-ground pool.

Now that's just plain stupid trying to talk/text on two cell phones at once, and asking for trouble. I wonder if they drug screened or breathalized him ?
That's gonna cost him big bucks! Plus they'll probly pull his CDL for a while.

90% of my texts while driving or towing is at a light or stop sign. Most of the time it's my kids asking when I'll be home, whats for supper. Any more I shut the thing off and mess with it after I'm out of the drivers seat or the ditch whichever it may be.

I see teen kids driving around the streets here in mom and dads ride talking/texting all the time.
And why is it always some hot little MILF driving this gigantic SUV , talking on her phone as she wheels it thru the intersectioin at 40mph ?? :eek7:

Good Luck with it! Man if I had the money i would buy myself a new car. Something with more balls would be great! Driving a 106hp car just doesn't do it for me especially coming from something that had 245hp! :uhoh: This has been a long interesting week! Wednesday was my b-day. I got myself a new cell phone this week... an EnV touch! :iceslolan Fun phone but the battery sucks! I spoke with my brother and he told me he had an accident with his mustang. He hit a deer on his way to work. I'm guessing it's not that bad since the car is still driveable... but the hood, grill and front bumper are messed up from what he had told me. He has an 04 40th edition too. I guess it's better then the 02 that he had that was totalled by a saturn and the saturn walking away with no damage. What concerns me is when he has an accident someone else in my family always has an accident about a month or two later. The last time for him with his 02, one month later I got creamed in my grand am.

I always thought the new car smell was the plastics in the car and in some cases the leather. Reason for my thought is I went into a leather coat store once and it smelled like a new car inside. you guys have no idea of "heat" lol.....

its been 102-107F constant here for weeks lol

despite I need a coolant flush, my car has been doing well with the heat, been staying around 210-220F... my 180stat is doing most of the work I would assume lol... Just been driving it easy, running the AC when I can (still messed up, makes lots of noise and kills my gas mileage when its on)

The other day my car had a hiccup, started to misfire right when I pulled into my lane in traffic... lost all power, and it couldnt fire right then it kicked in and dumped w/e fuel out lol...

I noticed now sometimes I have a small plume of black smoke come out when I start my car... smells like gas too on cold starts. barely notice it.

maybe I should save up for some bigger injectors, as mine are prob still messed up from when I had all that crap in my fuel lines.

Oh yea vipey, how're those lowering springs and kyb struts doing? I thought about jumping the boat and grabbing me both ... The heat and humidity finally triggered some wicked storms here today. From 12:30pm till about 5pm it poured in the town that i work in. Right now it's unconfirmed but they are estimating that it got about 10 inches of rain. The lightning was constantly striking, to the point that half the town lost power and phones...including the building i work in. I have no clue how many times the car alarm went off. They actually let us leave early because the storm was that bad, plus NO phone = no work. :naughty:

This storm that we had yesterday was crazy bad. I found out today, that the power went out, phones, internet, cell phone service in the area was spotty at best. I couldn't get a text out or get on the internet if my life depended on it. The lightning was just too powerful and too much that it fried just about everything. the phones didn't come back up at my job until about 9:30 this morning... they went out around 2:00pm yesterday. The official amount of rain was just shy of 10 inches and 8 inches in the area that I work! That's 8-10 inches that fell in a matter of 3-4 hours. thannkfully where I live only got about 3 inches so flooding wasn't nearly as bad as where i work.

And people will drive through the fast moving water on the streets and get in very big trouble. Then they are fighting for their very lives. I know because in my much younger stupid days I did it. It had rained and flooded the access to O'Hare airport. People had to walk through the water to take a taxi home. I was on my way to work and at the time I had a dodge champ. I went through this very fast moving water and the car started to move off the road. I had to start to bounce in the drivers seat for the wheels to grab the pavement. I thought I bought it. But I did get the wheels to grab and got out of the water. Made it to work and I was one of the very few to make in. It was raining so hard that it was coming through the building doors. Had almost 3 inches of rain inside of the office. We were told to go home, we were also told we would get a full days pay. Needless to say I took a different way home.

East coast should be getting some of huricane bill soon, or has that fizzled out ? Guess it's that time of year again.

We're forecasted to get some of it tomorrow. The original forecast for Sunday was sunny but that changed a couple days ago. It's hard to judge where these storms are headed and with the current technology they still aren't accurate beyond a day or so. Looking at the northeast radar it appears the outer edges are just about to hit Long Island. We usually don't get much from hurricanes, just a lot of rain and some winds depending on the track of the storm and it's intensity. Being inland quite a way from the coast we usually don't get much from that direction, rather whenever we do get some of the remnants they travel up the Ohio valley after coming inland from Louisiana to Florida. or off the coast of the Carolinas. It's in the mid 80s now and is only supposed to get to 75 tomorrow. We got summer late this year finally hitting our first 90 degree day of the summer last week. The real warm weather (80 degree +) didn't really start until the 3rd week of July.

Yeah doctorhrdware we had some of those storms roll thru. Guess it took out some power lines around me, probly trees downed.

Was some damage way south of me, never heard whether it was straightline winds or a tornadoe...

Pretty damn chilly today ! I dont think its even 70 degrees out. It was just 90 something lastweek. :screwy: :runaround:

ps- the guy I sold the GT to, said he'd sell it back for $1200 less cause he couldnt trade it in on a new CARS deal. I said maybe

sell it back for 1200 less? lol... ya right lol.

Yes my struts and springs kick ass in the GA. It makes it turn soo much better... though I have those and both strut bars so it helps. I want to get sway bars when I get my grand am back from my dad :P

XI... you sold your GT?! NOOOO!!! At least it wasn't the SE... I'd be tempted to buy it had you sold it lol.

Loving my legacy so far, drove it to Kings Island and back this past weekend, way more miles than I should have on it right now but it's neat. I love how the tires NEVER EVER spin and I ALWAYS have traction... I can't wait till winter :)

Yeah it looks like their might be another round or storms headed your way. :( Living on the coast would suck even more!

Well long story short the guy wanted to trade it in on the $4500 deal+ whatever they offered. Problem was he didnt have it for 1 yr, it gets 26mpg(Dealer tested)... he just found something faster&ricer.

Im looking for a 2 door GA, and a TA, before they all disappear in some.... vortex. :uhoh:

Still cant beleve what the gov is paying out for all those CARS to dealers. Thing is, I heard 90%+ of the cars bought were all foreign models.

Most all stealerships Ive seen in the last week have been pretty empty.
And where's all those electric cars we were promised ? :runaround:

not quite sure what I've missed on here recently. I just kind of skimmed the posts real quick.

Hey Xi I would buy the GT back for 1200 less then what he paid for it ( unless you put the money towards a new project already) I also would have kicked the guy in the head if he managed to trade it in under the cars program after all the work you put into that car! It's such a shame that they are taking perfectly good cars and blowing the engines like that. :disappoin At least that program is all over with!

looks like a possibility of a tropical storm headed towards our area. thankfully it doesn't look like it will hit us. :runaround::uhoh:

No it looks like it might hit farther north at this point towards New England again. Interesting start to the season in that they usually go farther south and hit Cuba and enter Florida or the Gulf of Mexico towards Texas. Two storms so far have veered more northerly towards the East Coast. I wonder if it will continue to be that way as the season progresses?

I'm not sure how much more rain the NJ NY & N. East coast can handle of rain. My fam & friends told me it's been raining almost all summer up there... and a tropical storm headed with more rain that way. So glad I don't live there anymore... well plus it's expensive too. I wonder what the winter is going to be like in the north east this year!

It's a push button setup, instead of the WOT...

15-35hp jets included.. I could always upgrade with bigger flow jets, or switch it to their 'wet' upgrade kit they have..

I'm friends with a woman in Texas on Facebook. Yesterday she was complaining about the heat and was happy a cold front was passing through and the temps were going to drop into the '90s. I told her we just had our first 90 degree temp of the summer last week. Now she wants to trade places with me, along with all her other friends who live around her.
(BTW it.s in the 60s today a little cooler than it's been recently, and the night before it got down to 49 and some people reported their furnaces kicked on in response to that  )

Remember global warming, here in IL have not had much of a summer had only like maybe like 4 or 6 90 degree days here. Which is not many, this weekend it is only going to be in the low to mid 60's. Which is more like October weather.

Looks nice a little pricey though. :naughty: If you have many internal gaskets that might be bad, I wouldnt hit it to many times. It'll find the weak spots.

Weather was great here today ! 70s with low humidity, large fluffy clouds.
I took the day off and managed to get a nice burnt face out fishing, or should I say catching. :D We were fishing for bluegill, and they were a bitten all afternoon. Just as fast as you through out your line you had one.
I guess tomorrow at this stone quarrey they were having a bluegill fishing contest. I'd never heard of that, usualy bass or some other big fish... I heard last year they pulled 400 keepers and had them the next day. Hope they dont catch them all.

fishon!

Nice fishing hole, could you transport your fishing hole over to my area. I would greately apperciate it if you would do that. Well I will be doing all my shopping in IN now. The grocery tax will now be going up to 6% and also talking about taxing prescriptions too. But only a 1% tax hike on hard liquor and cigars, god forbid that the politicians pay their fair share. All candy will now be taxed at 10.25%. How are the people on fixed incomes going afford just the bare essentials let alone the luxuries. Hopefully IN will not tax the people to death. Saw the weather and call for over night temps to be in the mid fourties the next few night. This is some great global warming!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks doctorhrdware. I wished I lived a little closer to it myself. I done a google search and I did not realize how big it realy is, its huge!
Im going to try and snap a pic on google maps, I wished I knew the GPS location...

Those taxes sound like a bunch of BS to me! Come on over here I dont think we're going to be adding any food tax.

Though I heard if you get food stamps in Indiana you might be limited on what you can buy, like pop and candy and other treats.
I hear our state funds got hit hard from all the workless imigrants milking the system. :angryfire:

Ok this should be the link to the quarey...

That is why health care is all messed up. Since I live just about 5 minutes from the Dyer boarder I will be shopping in IN from now on. Well they have to pay for all the expenses incurred trying to get the Olympic in Chicago. Mayor Daily, the big blow hard is still saying that the people will not have to pay for the city of Chicago to host the Olympics. Now there is state wide tax increases. Kind of funny increase in taxes, city of Chicago biding to get Olympics. See where I am going.

Yeah Indianapolis is trying to get people in Marion county, which surounds Indy, to pay extra taxes for their new stadium.
Which you already pay more for merchandise bought in that county. And all this so they can compete for the superbowl in the years to come. :disappoin

T.G. its almost friday!

I would have loved to have a job thrown at me when i finished school. That didn't happen though. I'm happy enough that I'm working again though.

Last weekend we took a ride up to jersey in the civic. a long ass drive in that tiny car but awesome gas mileage! For a 12 year old car it drove like a champ there and back. Other then horrible shakes due to a bad alignment which i got fixed this weekend, it was all good. Oh that and i found out my speedo is off by 3 mph. It's a good thing for the reason if I'm going 60 I'm really only doing 57. Bad part is I'm going slower then i need too. LOL :cwm27:
