wow I remember that article.. I believe it came out in 2000. I was sooo hoping that they were gonna produce that G/A cause I was ready to go out and get it. I rememberafter i bought mine they intro'ed the SC/T package G/A I got all siked and pissed since i already had bought mine, but glad to find out that it was all appearance and no go under the hood. To bad they didn't produce them ( other then the few elusive S/C on the road).

Yeah I'm finally living in PR. I moved here finally on July 22nd. So Almost a month of me living here. Jobs here are much like up there. Few... and the ones that do exsist are specialized fields or in my case require to be bilingual. So it'll take some time before i get a job.
When i bought my g6 it already had 30K miles on it. A year and a half later I put an additional 30K on it. :iceslolan All those miles are a combo of driving to work 50miles a day, side trips, and cruising around. It adds up quickly!
So do you like it there ? I bet its hotter then hellens house! lol Good luck with the language and job !
Yeah 50mile drives to work will add the miles quick, that must have been expensive!
prob a repost but... http://www.motortrend.com/future/con...sct/index.html :Dgood read
Seen that page a few times, gets your hopes up even now. :( I would have liked the 5 spd V6 more then any of the other BS they stuck on the grand am's. Maybe they'll bring them back in a couple years. :evillol:
Have a great Weekend everyone !

thanx XI! I need the luck right now. So far I like it down here. Nothing like tropical weather and beaches near by. the only downside is the language barrier for me and the no job so i can't afford anything for myself. The heat isn't that bad to me, since I like hot weather anyways. It's the humidity that sucks! Also the heat sticks inside the cement walled apartment on the top floor so it can get quite toasty at night inside but be really nice outside. go figure. the 50 mile a day drive was expensive at times but thankfully i wasn't working anymore when the gas prices skyrocketed! I was averaging a 200$ a month gas bill and only got about 4 days out of a tank. :frown:

youre welcome !
Yeah I dont mind hot, but humidity kills me fast! lol
They speak spanish in PR dont they ??
How are gas prices down there ??
A $200 a month isnt bad, I spend that in a week sometimes driving just for work, and I guess sometimes on the weekends I can rack up some miles just cruising.
Weathers been cool and low on the humidity lastweek but its goin up and getting hotter by the day. :(

thinking about it, last mod I'd like to do with the grand am...
since I havent put anything else really into it, was thinking MMS stuff but in the end.. na.. I need a car that'll get me to B from A still.
So what is someone to do, with a slightly fast grocery getter, but dont wanna guzzle more gas than already doing..... n2o? :o
I was thinking about, purchasing the zex dry kit, and do the 55hp jet
Your opinions? And Yes, I know it may 'blow up' but I'd rather hear other comments :)

Yeah they speak spanish down here... and i don't :runaround:
the gas prices down here are pre litre. We saw the cheapest last night $0.89 per litre which equates to about $3.38 per gallon. considering being on an island we have cheaper gas then some US states! :iceslolan
hey Gir: for the last mod I would go cheap just incase you blow it up, this way you can afford to either fix it or get something newer. I would think though the Jet would be the better bang for the buck.... :2cents:

yea, for what it is.. being NA... with out going crazy with MMS stuff and spending lots of money... I'd rather go the cheaper way to get more whp.
it being throttle sensitive with the kit, I'd be able to manage my shifts and such with how much throttle Im giving it... having the kit be on/off and finding that 'open' point...
sh*t lol, if I like it, I may just get a bigger bottle lololol so I dont have to refill as much
a new car is still on my mind though, since working at the dealership, I've buddied up with a mechanic
http://www.fquick.com/Section8cav --- His car page, lots of pics
http://www.fquick.com/videos/viewvideo.php?id=4621 - motor running video
funny thing is, its pretty matched up to my grand am... and I only have bolt ons
He runs slightly faster than me, but my 4-door weight doesnt help either
I was thinking maybe the pontiac g5 with the 2.4L motor, but MSRP is very expensive, more than a loaded scion Tc!

also, hopefully I'm getting a refund back from MMS, they never sent me my n-body poly trans mount... $201.05 after tax & shipping costs... I sorta just forgot about it till I was going over some money stuff of how I'm going to save for the n2o kit.
that extra $200 can get me through too another pay check... hopefully they respond soon

I've been thinking NOS myself. :evillol:
I bet the ol' grand ams get a little squirrelly when you hit the NOS. lol
You do have to watch those Cavi's, one about took me in the GT the other night. :eek7:
His was manual 2.4 and I wasnt realy trying at first, but I heard his rasp out, I nailed 1st @ 10-15mph acrossed this parking lot(the sweet spot). I took the long way around and still beat him to the street! :ylsuper: I think he respects GA's now.
On the trans mount I didnt realise they were that expensive. I think my GT has a broken lower trans mount, havnt looked yet... The engine shakes a little when idling in neutral. Im not sticking a OEM one back n there, it'll junk out like this one.

gotta take your SE out and make them cavi's show you some RESPECT!
BTW... is there any reason why whenever i try to put gas into my tank, the gas shoots out, no matter what pump I try, and they all shut off and wont let any gas in? Is something clogged? What COULD be clogged?

Yeah it seems as though everytime I take out the SE the damn cops also come out... go figure. :sly:
Is that little metal tab in place in the fuel hole ?
Sometimes that gets bent or loose and causes the pump to stop.
And it could also just be the gas pump, if its pumping to fast it builds pressure and kicks the pump off like its full.
The station I goto, pump #6 always kicks out if I try and fill up to fast. I just hold it on trickle, then the attendant comes over the speaker, "is the pump working ok ?" lol
I guess when it take 10 minutes to put in $20 they think somethings wrong. :dunno: :screwy:
I'd complain to the station! ! :D

Well the remaster this last saturday, it only took about 12 hrs! Sounds 110% better!
Well worth the troubles we had, also made small changes in the back inlay design, all being dropped off at Abyss this afternoon, deadlines suck! They should be updating thier myspace with the remastered songs, I just cant believe how much better it sounds. :grinyes:
Here's the updated pics... the back inlay.

Work sucks, was laid off. There is significant flooding around me. Was on the way to Farm and Fleet. Had two detours due to flooding. And the detours were also very flooded. Now I am getting random multiply misfires. The DTC that I am getting is P0300. It feel like I am running on 4 cylinders. The idle is very ruff.

I faired well, I did get around 8.5 inches of rain the night it stormed up here by Chicago. They got hit with around 10" of rain. :( The river that runs down the road is at its banks, it shouldnt get much higher... I hope not.

ive seen that lol Dont think it's completely true though :)
man its been a while, I've been working working working :|
but now I'm faced with a problem,
Over by my alternator, I guess it's cycl 1 I do believe... but it's been making some loud knock noise... only when the motor hesitates (goes below idle, comes back up to idle) or if it's a real cold start, it'll do it untill it warms up...
This should load for you XI, its pretty small
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr7WeilAs2Y - sorry for the horrible quality. cell phone lol, but you get the just of it.... you can still hear that knock! grr
That video was taken at work when I was really bored lol
The next day I celebrated with....
8oz - Seafoam - PCV cleaning
2 small bottles of Lucas injector cleaner
Oil changed with Royal Purple 5w-30 (decided to go purple this time)
ALSO!, used the HP-2001 filter and put in a little more oil... about 4.7 or .8L
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDgJR5s3_Nw
did this yesterday, noticed its running really smooth, I can really tell the difference, its like silk almost - Though this did not change the knock noise... :(
soon I'll drain the Max ATF I put in a while ago, change the tranny filter and go get some more put in there
---
Im still wanting to go N2O, but with a small buildup first
I talked with Mike Miller (MMS - milzy dude) who owe's me $200 or so for that tranny mount, still never got the refund and got in touch with him today about it. I asked if it'd be possible to get another order but with the amount already discounted. I asked for a billet cam for N/A... but he said he wouldnt have any for a couple of months cause he had to switch companies to have them made. But he does have the cast NA available. I may just go that route...
from just looking... I can do a solid cast 3400 camshaft for $339.99 ... I'd only pay like $140 or so for it
plenum spacers = $64 (worth it?)
65mm throttle body = about $40 after discount... $20 more for 68mm....
I can get a set of ported/polished upper/lower intake manifolds for about $100 after discount
Chrome-moly pushrods for only $134.99, with more money to spend
what I'd like to do... is..
Camshaft
those chrome-moly rods
new rockers (will look around)
LS1 springs, or those yellow beehive springs like used on 'grand am fury v6' the one guy who has a really nice v6 grand am built up... he has some spring part #s...
possibly bigger sized valves (intake/exhaust)... might have to do custom, How could I set it up to be flush with the block when they open/close? would I have to get a pro to mill it out for me with a drimmel?
a PnP upper/lower intake later.. I think. And I'm sure getting the rods wont be too hard, not such a bad price to pay.
Then nitrous/wet setup... I know exactly where I'll mount everything inside (switches, lights etc...)
I'll put everything up into that useless holder that sits above my middle mirror, I'll take it out, make the holes/sizes and w/e and just wire it through the pillar and up the top.. everything just slides in there...

If you are talking about that random action noise it doesnt sound like a valve or lifter in your video. One of those would be a constant rhythm noise. Sounds more like your power steering pump though... :dunno:
Could also be your timing chain rattling.. :yikes:
Are you getting any DTC's ??

yea, it sounds more constant while inside the car driving...
it goes sorta like... *click* *click* *click* *click* *ca-click* *ca-click* *ca-click* *ca-click* *ca-click* *click* *click* *click* :grinno: Like at first it's in sync, then it becomes 2 separate noises...
it's hard to describe, but this is internet lol
But if you can tell in the video, it sounds the worse when the motor hesitates below idle. You hear that in the video. Does it alot when Im backing out and turning the wheel...
I hope its not the power steering, just had that fixed!
The sound is for sure coming from around that first cycl area.
Where abouts is the timing chain located at?
No DTC yet :screwy: - My car never seems to get any unless it's something REALLY bad lol

Hey XI, didnt you put rocker arms into the SE? But they didnt fit exactly so you had to mill out a little part of the valve cover?

i didnt realy hear the click click click... lol
The timing chain is below the power steering pump front of the engine.
Yes I had troubles with things fitting in the valve covers.
Possibly 3 reasons why;
one the valves didnt get shortend enough when I put it togehter(mismeasured); two the push rods are to long and or three the I have the wrong roller rockers. It runs fine and hasnt given me any problems since. :dunno:

I'm around...didn't get flooded out yet. I've been busy recently with visitors.
Hey Gir that doesn't sound coming from your g/a. How does the car drive? Any issues with lacking of power? I've heard PS pumps make similiar noises as well as timing chains.
Well we've been fixing a few issues with our little civic. First I fixed a leak in the trunk the best i could. What really needs to be done is removing the weatherstripping and check for any cracks. Then we couldn't figure out why our trunk light and indicator light on the dash didn't work. Found out the metal connector tab on the trunk latch was bent back. Bent it in place and it now works. Then when backing up the car makes a horrible noise. I looked all under the hood couldn't find the noise and it had stopped... closed the hood and BAM it's back. The hood apparently rubs on the latch causing this horrible vibrating noise. One by one we mark off the issues off our list.

well I let one of the GM Techs take a look, he says it's the rockers making the noise :| ... and the really loud bit he doesnt know, but he does hear the rockers making noise. They quiet down once the car is warmed up.
Car drives fine for all I know *shrug
A timing chain would make a constant rattle noise wouldnt it?
and my PS pump is fairly brand new, dont know if you guys remember the old one snapping off the pump and just spinning with the belt going wobbly all over.... lol
The royal purple oil has been treating me good its like its getting more lubed by the usage... its weird :D
btw, getting stageI MMS cam + recommended kit of gaskets (includes timing chain) ... so even if it IS the problem, soon to be fixed.
I need to call Mike back and let him know ill be ordering in two weeks upon next paycheck :) hehehe

Hey grfnkl glad to hear from you, glad things are not flooded out your way!! Sounds like you made some major progress on the Civic. :D
Yeah Gir, rocker arm noise can be anouying to say the least. Didnt you ahve your LI done a while back ?
They may not have tightend them down properly, and can be retightend pretty easily, well after removing the Alternator and the mounting bracket. Torquing them isnt bad, its that 30 degrees that mist people have truoble with.
I usualy go a little tighter if anything on the final tightening sequence.
And on your power steering pump, if you didnt flush the system or replace your lines you could have troubles with a new pump from all the contaminated fluid due to hose degridation.. good luck Yo !

I've been busy with other things recently thus my inactivity. In a few weeks I'm taking a trip up to georgia for a test for a potential job. So we'll see how that works out. Only almost a year later after me getting laid off and i'm finally almost have a job..., damn this job market sucks!
We've been doing the best we can fixing up our little civic. When we bought it, it only had 69K miles on it and its a 97. Not bad for a 10year old car. I put some seafoam in the tank about a month ago, and this little car finally has some balls for it's little 130hp engine. Next we have to figure out some little grindy rattle noise from the engine that happens on occasion as well as figure out why the a/c belt keeps squeaking. :runaround:

I thought about PnP UI/LI.... I'd only pay like $250 in the end cause Id have to have new ones sent to me and send back my old ones for the core charge return money
in the time frame I have to return mine, I could have the new ones painted :)
I decided on the cam, cause it leaves me open to do UI/LI... maybe headers (lol someday)

Yeah if you didnt at least flush the power steering system your pump will probly crap out before to long. :(
And yes the motor kinda needs pulled(dropped) for the cam replacement.
I've done my SE by dropping the pass side motor mount and pulling the suspension off that side, and lowering the sub fram.
Then removing the timing cover/gears/chain(I replaced those, something to consider while its open/off). Then removed/installed the new cam thru the wheel well area.
Yeah a 8-10 hr job taking short cuts. :disappoin:

I was asking around at work about the installation, no1 in the shop has done it lol. and the GM bible basically calls it a 8-12hr job lol or... two day job in my case lol. My friend gave me some prices... prob $1200 for a normal customer, prob $600 install for me cause of GM shop discount. I need to talk with my boss and see if I can have something arranged
Does the motor have to be pulled XI ?
Youre rocker arms!
:disappoin:
yea, its the weekend!

See I told you that they can smell you. Well at least it was just a warning. The deal around me now, is putting the traffic cameras up at the intersections. This was a long time ago, the office put the incorrect vehicle info on the ticket. I was able to have the ticket dismissed.
If only his windows were down, he would have smelt my sulfer exhaust & heard me down shiftin. :evillol:

I forgot..
I got pulled over lastnight for disregarding a automatic signal.
The comments on the warning said " Golden Eagle Series 2 ", what ever the hell that means.
It was a speed trap anyways! As soon as my car went acrossed the white line, he stopped hard on the light trigger on my left, and the light jumped from yellow to red in less then 1 second. At least he wasnt running his radar. :D
Man you always get lucky like that ! :angryfire :flipa:
I've gotten two tickets this summer, hello defensive driving :crying:
Glad we've had overtime, thanks XI ! :smokin:
