after you get it going again after doing the security relearn, you're gonna have to take it somewhere (dealer prob) to get that CASE learn done (w/ a GMTechII)... it makes a world of difference before and after.

They charged me $40 =/ just for the CASE learn, a$$holes :lol:

Well i just got back from a little road trip to my sisters in Delaware. Nothing like a 1 day vacation.

Vipey: I like the tails you are gonna get. I wish you had pictures of them lit up. Well when you get them put a pick of them lit up..!!! I'm curious to see how the lighting is done. Hopefully it's not retarded looking with the two top halves of the circles lit up from the brakes... I hate when they do that.

Lucky you. I'm still using my 2 and a half year old LG VX6100...Amazingly after all this time it still works... ( knock on wood) I want a new phone though but I'm waiting until this one craps out or something good comes out that i really want.

OK I have a REALLY stupid question... what's the name of the GASE transmission and what's the name of the GAGT transmission? It's 4t40e and 4t45e right? I just need a confirmation of this... my trans is fine (temporarily) but I want to know for reference in case it kicks the bucket being at 177,000 miles... cause if it does die I'm totally getting a GT tranny :p Or even a 4t65E or 4t65HD :p


EDIT: Oh man I just saw Transformers... they have a new 08 Solstice and Camaro and all sorts of other badass GM cars!!! WOOOO!!! I was so pumped about that and them transforming into asskicking robots and shredding each other that when I got out of the theater I needed to do something with adrenaline. I got my wish :D

I was leaving the theater behind this slow white jetta... some guy and his gf apparently, just left the theater so they probably also had the same adrenaline spike I did... and so I follow him off the exit ramp as he slugs along and we get to a stoplight. He goes to the left side I go to teh right.

Now let me ask you... when you've just gotten out of an asskicking movie with cars, and you have your subwoofer beating like crazy to adrenaline-inducing music, and some car comes up next to you that's being slow, what do you normally think is a good thing to do?

Well... I didn't expect what happened next. He gunned it at the green... I was like wtf noob here I come LOL and gunned it myself and easily pwned that noob and his gf. Next light I figure I pwned him so why would he even try, but he mashes the pedal and I don't. Then I fly by him cause I'm like how gay. So third light I decide to let him know I mean business. I pull up to the light, pop it in neutral and rev my flowmaster 80 duals with no resonator in an "ima pwn you" response. Turned off traction control, AC, and my audio system for all the power I could get, and mashed the pedal when the light went green. SQUEALLLL! But he didn't race so I was sad :( Then we ignored each other for the rest of the trip to where we were going. But still... god I wish I had that PCM and the trans change because I would have massacred him even more :p

Oh yeah... the guys at the Purdue Automotive club want me to autocross in like a week or two, but I don't want to torch my tires/transmission since I will have just gotten my royal purple put in by then. I guess the front tires will fare better than the back (maybe?), and my back ones suck anyway so I don't care cause I'm getting new ones with my rims eventually. But I'd like royal purple tranny fluid and a nice PCM for it ;)

those little cars can take cornors tho, I always hated that back in high school... my friend who now owns a 98 cobra use to have a jetta we would always work on w/ the 2.0L ... I never raced him (no contest lol) but he could take corners like a madman w/ his suspension we did :thumbsup:

before I had bought my 02 GT I was looking for a Jetta Trek Edition or Wolfsburg Edition.... BUT every single one i found has an accident in the front since the panels weren't matching up, bumpers were loose and the paint was slightly different... and therefore ended up with the New 02 G/A instead of a used Jetta. I realized later I would have destroyed the Jetta considering the amount of abuse my G/a went through... LOL :lol:

When you get your strut tower braces you will feel the difference BIG TIME! When i was still in college... I would go down this windy hilly road with S turns and since its in the middle of the Forest Reservation, I would do a good 50-70 mph ( normally no cops just deer). Before the braces the car couldn't handle going over 45... soon as i put the bars on the car could handle the 60 mph turns.. the tires couldn't but that's ok. I Kept up with a nissan 240 once through those turns Lots of fun. :naughty:

Oh yeah Gir: I would assume that the injectors shouldn't be that hard to do. Considering I'm very Mechanically challenged and I managed to change a injector on my aunts Vette... I think you should be able to do it.

I have the front brace, just need the rear... where can I get one :p PFYC doesnt have them it looks like...

It sounds like you got some give in your engine mounts. Mine didn't touch the altenator.... Barely.... but didn't touch. My rear mounts... I could not get them to seat properly.. so they basically they would not go down on the round bolt area thingy.... Whatever it is it didn't want to go all the way down.

My new tail lights turned my dad into an alien :(

Yeah those tails are at my house up in G-town, whereas I'm down in West Lafayette... and since July 4th is here I have to wait till Thurs till they ship, so I should get them Friday. Then I'll get to work on them over the weekend. Thinking about buying those black projectors next and getting windows tinted... then black rims... my car will be silver w/ a bunch of black :p Then I can go autocross with the Purdue Automotive Club, haha!

I'm holding off on my PCM till I get my trans fluid change and it's had a week or so to soak in. Don't want to add two stresses to a 177,000 mile old transmission at the same time!

EDIT: Yeah my dad had a few margaritas at that point... hehehehe

Well it sounds like someone was having a good 4th! Vipey, Already trashed.... it's only 10:30pm est:nono: . LOL :lol: I kept it safe and had only a shot or two of some Puerto rican rum... but it was weak as hell.:shakehead just a slight tingle nothing major. Plus didn't want to get trashed in front of my parentals as well asfamily I haven't seen in 5+ years. It's not quite recommended. Otherwise it sucked here. It was cloudy and really cool I think it only made it into the low 70's... BURRR. Then it rained, then it stopped, Then it rained again. Now it's REALLY Friggen humid. I didn't bother going to see the fireworks. It wasn't worth it to wet outside.

That is why I hate buying used items with out some sort of warranty that the merchindise works.

You shouldnt have any problems with the melting & corrosion like the stockers, these tyc lights do leak though.

Well they work now... but they are rly dark. So I'm going to probably need LED lights, or find a way to remove tint. Is it possible to remove tinting (painted)??? If not, I'll have to grab some LED's and resistors and have fun :banghead: but they look friggin awesome! I'm going to "test" them at night when I go home Sunday while one of my friends follows me to see if they are bright enough. You can see them in the day, they just aren't really bright, so it makes me nervous. Then I'll have someone follow me during the day and let me know.

But yeah, they look AWESOME... just still no pics yet :disappoin

thats where I bought my 194 LEDs for my interior.. my floor lights up blue in the front.... only problem is... They're LEDs and go in 1 direction.. so its blue circles not all lit up :dunno: cant win them all I guess

Hey Vipey auto stores sell 3 different types of bulbs for the tail & turn signal. Not counting the LEDs.

They hav the standard 3156, 3157 then they hav a HD which is suposed to be good for rough driving and they hav another one, but I cant remember the actual name, but they are brighter. Thats what I've been using and they are much brighter then the standard bulb.

Someone before me put 3157NA(amber color) in all my tails, and You couldnt even tell they were working freakin idiots!! :rolleyes:

I just got back from hanging out with Purdue's automotive group. I was teh slowest car :( One guy had a civic running 12.7 untuned I think... god!!! after we all met we went and met some of the import guys that hang out at this fireworks place on saturdays. I was still the slowest car there... everyone had some sort of forced induction, and I was probably the only naturally aspirated person there... but I had one of the biggest engines ;) We were going to go down and hang out with the domestics people but the imports and domestics don't get along QUITE as well :p

But still... god I wish I had boost and new engine parts on my GA... maybe I will do that so I can at least KEEP UP with them! I think with MMS stage 2 gear and spray I could get mid/high 13's, so definitely an improvement (assuming transmission holds up :()

BTW I installed my tails... since it's dark I can't get any decent pictures, but I had my dad follow me (in his G6 GT... bastard lol) and test out the brightness and my visibility at night. He said they're pretty good but my tail lights need to be brighter (the ones that aren't the brake/turn signal/reverse/amber side lights). So my question is this: I think someone said something about HID bulbs for this, am I right? Is it possible to get HID bulbs instead of LED's? Because LED's require annoying fabrication. I'd have to get HID's for the tail AND brake lights since they share the same circular ring thingie.

Hmm A Ch noise.... Are you sure it's not a rattle noise? Mine would get horrible lifter tap and rattle when i did WOT. I guess it could be considered it a ch noise... hmmm. well you still need to get a tail light pic, one during the day and one at night.. I don't care how you do it... just get it done! :) Sorry... I really want to see how it looks. I think Xi was saying something about HID bulbs for the lights. I would look at pepboys or an automotive store. I know that they have an assortment of lights maybe something is different.

BTW XI 3057 will work in the tails of a G/a Barely but it does. When mine was fixed after my last major accident with the car the repair shop put the wrong bulb in and it was a 3057... it was a little brighter then the others.

tomorrow is Dashhawk day! I checked the shipping and it's already here in NJ!!! it's a little north of me at the sorting center.. but that mean tomorrow i shall have it.... :naughty:

Left the filter and gasket alone cause they were fine. the guy charged only $40 for it! He's also going to do the P&P of my intake manifolds and bore out my throttle body to 62mm :boink: this are teh roxxor!!!

Ya Vipey just go check out the bulbs somewhere even autozone has the brighter bulbs for the tails/turns.
Their web site only shows 3157 and the 3157LL ,
I know thiers a third one thats brighter though ...

I would also double check those contacts inside the housing. any corrosion will make them dim.

I've been looking around at my local auto stores on prices for injectors... and they're all about the same?, I have my eye on a certain brand tho with MFi or w/e... the description made them sound very reliable and worth the buy... another nameless brand that I never heard of was $120 each.. :yikes:

I got a haynes manual for my 99, injectors dont look hard at all.. I just dont have a torque wrench :(

has all the info of the 'correct' way, mostly what I'd do lol... it doesnt look hard at all.. I just need o-rings and a couple wrenches... My guess knowing my ability I could do all 6 2hrs max with everything done correctly...

It said somethin in there about using motor oil to lube the injectors when putting them back in? :dunno: .. I think I have a left over bottle somewhere, could I just coat some on my fingers XI and put em on the injector when I replace?

btw, you guys need to invest in a xbox360 and forza motorsport 2... I've been all over that game tuning cars and such... the VW turbo Beetle isnt bad stock for a D Class,.... FWD AWESOMNESS!.. Ya Vipey just go check out the bulbs somewhere even autozone has the brighter bulbs for the tails/turns.
Their web site only shows 3157 and the 3157LL ,
I know thiers a third one thats brighter though ...

I would also double check those contacts inside the housing. any corrosion will make them dim.

I think the bulbs your are thinking of are the XV or XD something to that effect. Or maybe its SB either way, I don't recall if they made it for everybulb but i know they made some that way.

Your are very correct about the corrosion.... never thought that wuld cause my erractic turnsignals one light bright the other dim... and it randomly going faster and slower...

It is not disappointing. Bugs blow, camaros are way better (especially THIS one ;)). TRANSFORMERS is one of THE BEST MOVIES EVER MADE. PERIOD!!! Go watch... NOW!!! I've not talked to ANYONE that has disliked!

EDIT: Yeah the guy said since the filters are metal or something they really don't need to be cleaned off or something... I'll take his word for it I guess. My big concern with taking off the filters and pan gaskets is particles getting back into the transmission that I don't want to be there, so as long as they stay where they are at, I'm totally fine with it as long as it doesn't blow my car up :p

If my grand am takes a dump I'll get a GTP until I can afford a REALLY nice car ;)

I'm now considering getting either a Dashhawk or an Aerowhatever that Gir has, but I'd like to see how each of you like your gauges before I decide. I'd probably do this over getting rims and headlights. I'm thinking of, if I fix up the tail lights, maybe just stick with that (might get a CF ram air hood eventually), but for the most part I want a relatively normal sleeper look.

But I really need some sort of a gauge reader thingie :P I'd like to see what kind of engine codes I may be running. Oh and another thing, my car doesn't accelerate very smoothly... it's been doing that a while. Hopefully it has nothing to do with the new trans fluid or anything like that either. We'll see.

Granted my aerotech scan gauge is nice.. thinking back if I could of saved a little bit more I would of gone with the dashhawk, just because of everything it provides from description

which btw vipey, if you're interested... the coilpacks only costed me $160, and were VERY easy to install.. I really cant wait till I get my injector problem fixed.. my car just sounds diff from using them

I made my own cleaning system that uses straight seafoam (or any other liquid carbon cleanser) through the pcv valve vaccume... ill take a pic of it when I get the chance

I stole the idea from my kwik kar guys, they charge $70 to do the process.. I took a few good looks of how it works, how it gets air and other stuff... and I went to home depot and made one myself.. for less than $20 and it works!

I was told that seafoam can also thin out the oil if used to much, but I forgot who I heard that from... whenever I change my oil, I do the seafoam first then change oil just in case ;)

a nice FUEL clean treatment I do on my GA and noticed milage out of it, brand new half a tank of Shell brand 93OCT, 2 small bottles of the lucas injector cleaner, and an expensive all purpose clean/fuel system lube cleaner.

you just run all of that till your about to be out.

btw tho vipey, I dunno if DHP PCM would be good for the car just yet :dunno: if the GA isnt running near perfect to start with.

I was thinking after the car is done soaking with the max atf for a week or so I'd order it, and hopefully it would clear up problems by fixing possible fuel inefficiencies along the powerband. Or I'll blow my car up faster and trade it in for a GTP :p Both are good in my book, but I'll tell ya blowing my grand am up would probably make me cry for the first time since being a teenager... so I'd probably keep it to fix someday lolz :p

Well I got my dashhawk yesterday and couldn't wait to hook that bad boy up! Oh it's sooo worth the money!!!:grinyes: I already pulled my Check engine code... po440. Evap Leak, at 0.04 inch. However I still have yet to figure out how to clear the code though... I mark it to be cleared... but nothing happens.

Vipey... the dashhawk will not work on the G/A It'll only work on the g6. It come on saying that you need the CAN bus port in order for it to work... Which the G/a doesn't have. You can use the one that Gir has.... the Aeroforce.

I'll be posting some pics of the dashhawk in a little bit between things at work. I only have to figure out where i want to mount it...

gleh. I'll prolly order a big batch of things from pfyc.com at the same time... ideas include:

1) Aeroforce Gauge
2) PCM
3) Heat shield thing
4) Angel Eyes
5) Sway bars
6) Rear strut bar if it's back
7) Gatorback belt
8) 180deg Tstat

That will be expensive though so I bet I'll probably remove some of those or order in two batches. Maybe the aeroforce gauge can tell me if anything is being retarded with my engine... I'm noticing the main accel problem is while in first gear (it's been that way for a while... seems to not accelerate uniformly and seems like it should be putting out more power than it is). We'll see :p
