I have been pulled over and got ticked for no seat belt on. One was on the toll road in the construction zone, where the trucks are doing about 60 to 65, but the state trooper pulled me over. I guess he did not want to fill out all the extra paper work when a truck driver is pulled over. The next ticket was in the sever towns over cars are whizzing by me and again I get pulled over for no seat belt. The price on the ticket for the last one was only $25, so that was not bad.

I think they have seat belt radar these days.
And I think 60-65 in a construction zone is a big :nono:
They'll yank your license for that kind of behavoir here.

hey xi, would you happen to have any pics laying around that I could use for the cam install?

I got the 'OK' at work to set up the 2-day install lol.. we have GM everything to use at the dealership shop, and I dont have to pay SO MUCH MONEY... only $100 or so now... for insurance *shrug

We're going to go by your method of dropping the sub-frame and such and un-hooking the suspension on the passenger side... with also using GM-World or w/e.... they say bring it out from the top but it wont matter cause we'll bring it down instead... then use the computer to tell us how to do the timing chaing and everything lol :)

xeroinfinity
09-30-2008, 10:05 AM
No Gir I dont hav any pics of this. I am certain the GM manual says pull the engine out the top to install the cam.

Some might find it easier to just pull the engine, at the time I didnt.
You do need to pull the LI and remove the lifters for this procedure. Just two bolts holding in the cam retainer, hours to get to that though..

Replacing the Cam bearings and micing the bearing journals, now this is where it gets a little tricky. It does require some special tools, which the GM shop should have..

Gir-_-
09-30-2008, 10:11 AM
yea we dont wanna do it from the top... would you be able to post up a how-to thread or anything that you remember doing then? It would help out my friend a great amount. His first time doing a 3400 cam but isnt a noobie on cars :)

dropping it from the bottom, other than the timing chain and all of that, is there really anything else? the more info the better :)

I can pull up AF at work, even through the firewall they have there lol... it filters out 'forums' and w/e but not all...

xeroinfinity
09-30-2008, 10:34 AM
I realy dont have time to right up a procedure at the moment.
If you have access to GM tech manuals then you should be able to find everything you need and then some.

I was doing suspension/LI work on the SE at the time, so it made it convenient to do it my way.

btw, we might all want to save our money for the depression the U.S. is getting ready to get hit with. :cwm27:

OK I gues thier isnt a classified for pontiac, I know I tried getting one started but here is the main classifieds, best read the stickies on posting etiquette. It should get some reads, I check it regularly for spam and anything I'm lookin for.

eh, yea... no more subaru :(

still selling parts tho... since I couldnt find my original part for the iat and the hose on top... went to a junk yard today and found it.. charged me $10 for a piece of rubber :p .... my friend was looking for quad4 dohc parts. his exhaust cam tower has a crack in it and is leaking oil everywhere.... we found 2 separate motors in good enough condition but once we got it all ready to pull out... the corners of the top piece cracked ! .... and the same exact thing happened to the other one.... we were pretty careful the 2nd time and still cracked.... so hes just going to find them online....

sounds like someones over torquing the bolts and cracking the housing(s), easy to do with aluminum. He might end up having to buy new ones from the stealership... :eek7:

dont think they make them anymore..... for the quad4 dohc......

werent really torquing over.... we did the method were you take all the bolts out that hold the tower down to the head.... then use 4 bolts to push open the housing.... I let him do most of it :grinyes: lol, he's the GM Certified one lol

xeroinfinity

They may not make them, but I bet thier's a few 100 floating around in some stealerships parts warehouse.

well.... the RSM 62mm throttle body and dr. speed CAI is de-modded :|

looks wimpy now lol,

I was going to re-use my K&N filter but that thing was filthy!... and it wouldnt fit over my MAF... grr so I had to use the new filter that I was... going to throw into selling

I also took off the little shiny 'heat shield' thing that I originally got when I got the new TB, the guy bought that too.. got it from PFYC.com when both were up for sell....

Tomorrow ill be polishing up the piping and cleaning everything off, car runs 'ok' I guess... no coolant leaks so far (had a tantrum with the TB coolant line :) ) I'm better now lol, looped that part.

xeroinfinity
10-09-2008, 06:20 PM
Yeah Gir the K&N is a little tight on the MAF sensor but it will work.
After you clean it up and let it dry good, set the rubber part out in the sun. It'll soften up and allow you to push it over the MAF lip.

I also hate those coolant lines that run thru the TB. My SE has none, I cut off the outlets and welded it shut. I also hacked off the two connection on the TB(weight reduction lol). On my GT I just bypassed them, and this is what I think was causing me problems when I had air traped in the cooling system. :dunno:

YEAH ! Its almost Friday !! :D

Well I couldnt see the overlays to far away. You were driving thru an intersection, I was to your left turning right. The only reason I noticed was the loud rubble from some subs and the exhaust rasp.

I'll have to check that out Gir!

I have had it since 99 and its still got original everything. Even the same harddrive! It has been reformated and everything so its completely empty but it still runs somehow.

They last a long time if kept dry. A neighbor was cleaning out his basement a while back and found an old PC that had the 6" floppys with the black and white monitor. Wasnt a windows or mac pc, think it was radio shack pc with DOS only. :screwy:
They sure have came a long way since the 80's. :grinyes:
