explain more on the injector harness... :iceslolan

btw, NICE POWAAH lol... grand am goodness...

what all did they do to the SE?

The wire casing on the injector harness get realy hot on top-o the intake. So they get tiny cracks which cause it to short(ground) out on the intake causing misfires.
Also thiers a ground on top of the intake(for the injector harness) that can become loose and cause some issues.

On the SE, they totally droped the trans.
Took it apart, and inspected thier clustches.

I think they used this wierd Dyno that your hubs bolt up to.
I didnt see them do this, but that was the only dynamometer I saw in thier shop area.
They used to have one that you drive up on like you see on TV and the web.

They did say the trans would NOT hold up to much more HP with breakin it in half :crying:
Damn GM and thier cheap short comings !!

No leaks, so that's good on their part.

Picked up a trans temp gauge and sending unit yesterday so I can monitor that closer. I do know when I shut off the trac control the trans temps increase about 10-20 degrees(up to 190-200 degrees) almost immediately.
Looks like I'll be installing a fan on the trans cooler also....

Well back to workin in the heat!

have a good one guys!

Xero you are my hero... please, please put on that supercharger :p

BTW good news! Milzy has a new 4t65HD conversion kit he's selling!!! For our grand ams!!! HAHAHA but it's $3500 :( But the good news is XI you can supercharge ur car, and get that kit, and that trans will be like LOL is that all u got!

TOTALLY should do it man!!!

hmm.. ill have the guys look into it... if they get to that part XI

so far I've replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, new MSD coils, new ICM (just today) and it's still not fixed.. its running better but the problem hasnt been addressed...

today it died on the highway, basically symptoms are... it was losing power, whenever I would press the gas more it would actually slow down, and the Revs were going up... Timing chain slippage?

car came to a complete stop after dodging some monster rocks on the side of the road lol and I let it sit for about 15mins and I was able to start it up after a few tries...

i still havent checked the plugs to see if there is any damage to them, they seem to be holding up from what I can tell running the car (iridium and all heh)...

that ICM was actually fun to replace lol.

My guess is, timing chain or possibly plugs... other than that.... Nooooo idea. I am baffled :dunno:

If I was going to do that, I'd go ahead and put in the 3.8 SC.
That whole swap would take a long time, even with experienced knolageable help.
I could probly do it in a month.....
but thats to much time/money for me and my help to waste away on something... I'll just break :frown:

I'm about done with mods, other then maybe boostin anyway. :smokin:

Yea you have covered almost everything on the Ign side of it.
... and didnt you replace a couple injectors already ??

about how many miles on it..... ?

If your timing chain was damaged , you'd probly hear it and it wouldnt run for crap!
It would make a groulling sound from the pass side of the motor by the crank/cam area.... most of the time.
They are way tougher then the ones they used 10 years before, thats for sure ! :grinyes:

Good hunting...

yea injectors 3 and 4... I think something might of clogged em along with that fuel filter possibly :dunno: .. they were the only ones doing misfiring, now I Just dont know..... b/c they all were ?!

takin it back tomorrow...

Yea Gir It is recomended that the fuel system get flushed out about every 40-50k miles.
Though GM would like you to do it more frequenty, so they can milk you of you moneys.

For some reason the fuel rails get a little build up inside.
When that stuff breaks loose it'll cause those pieces to clog faul out the injector(s).

I hate cars ! :grinno:

Good luck on the car Gir, hopefully this time around everything will work out and the car will be running good again.

I got the 6 back last night and it's running better then when i bought it so I guess those little things do make a difference. Smooth and quick! Now I'm gonna try a new 0-60 and see what the times come out as!

Wish me luck everyone, i got a interview for a job today so hopefully I can get out of this dump i work at right now.

good luck grfnkl! :D

Gir could ur alternator be bad? I don't really think it would cause all that but if ur car is dying u never know :p

ugh I feel like shit today, I didn't eat before I went to the bar with my friends... bad idea hahaha... and I have to go home and finish building my ultrabeast of a computer and clean my apartment because my parents are visiting for the first time in like a year to use a carpet cleaner on a few stains on the floor... ughhhhh make this day end lol!

XI how hard do you think it would be to install an Eaton M62 in a grand am? What parts would I need to do it? How much do you think I'd need to pay for a KNOWLEDGABLE person to install it? I'm really really considering it... to hear the whine of the SC as I prawn civics ;) engine work would be fun too but nothing beats the sound of a SC :ylsuper:

it stalled 3 times takin it back today to the shop to be worked on.. it seems like slippage or the engine flooding.... I havent checked the oil to see if maybe a gasket has been leaking... but it is def running like caca now... just as bad as it was before the filter was changed and pump exhanged ...

it worked good for a short period of time then instantly the same problem came back... oh well.. Im getting $40 worth of diagnostic fees and another 10% discount overall ...

i dont care anymore, I just need it working lol to last me at least the end of the year..... and to get a new car

grfnkl, glad to hear your New car is running better!
Good luck with the job thing too!

Vipey, If you can find one of those it would probly be around 6-7hrs, so between $500-600 that should include tuning and running the way its supposed too, great :D

Gir, check your oil for the smell of gas !
If your injectors are screwy they can flood the cylinders and that all goes into the oil which can damaage your bearings :yikes: !!

I still say its in the injection system, under the hood somewhere :grinyes:

now that you mention it... my car's oil did smell like gas last time I changed the oil... it smelt pretty strong like a lawn mower would... and it was very fluidish...

how serious of problems could that cause??

btw its been running hot, just the engine but the coolant temp has been keeping level.. dunno if its the heat or what...

Oil becomes thinned out, that is pretty serious.
Like I said before it can damage the crank and bearings if its realy thinned. Since you use sythetic oil you might have better protection.

I know that one time when my LIM blew out coming back from Ohio, I thought for certain the bearings would be damaged but they werent. I figured it was the synthetic oil that helped protect everything better.

busy busy... lol

I had an interview myself today .. was so nervous ... also this line of work I might be going into may be a little difficult for me, seeing I have no idea how property management works lol but its a job for now

Code time! <3 aerotech
P0131 - Upstream heated O2 sensor circuit - low voltage (Bank 1, Sensor 1) (Dunno, I plugged in the gauge while the car was running and it was on that setting from previously so I think starting the gauge on that display may have upset the DTC lol)
P0300 - Random Misfiring (pfft you know...)
P1610 - Loss of PZM Serial Data (What?)
P1602 - Knock Sensor (KS) Module Performance (...not sure)
P1626 - Theft Deterrent Fuel Enable Signal Not Received (reason my security light comes on randomly?)

BCM problems XI?

Right now we are back to where I started... 3 & 4 injectors are misfiring like crazy... 4 is worse than 3 by a great amount.

Previously, 3 & 4 were clogged, 3 being worse than 4... injectors changed, worked ok for a short while.

So far, new new pump, new filter, new ICM, new gas since then, engine seems to be overheating easy from my perspective, drove just a little bit up/down their road to test for sound.. 221F and I was only going 20mph. Testing for sound b/c of the fuel pump, whenever there was a hollow or b000m sound in 4 you can hear it in the exhaust, as well resistance on the fuel pump from what it sounded like.

my PCM wont allow them to do a leak test or w/e .. where they fire the injector individually to see the fuel pressure drop :dunno:

last night sucked. well it was fine until i had to go to sleep....

it took me forever to fall asleep. i just didn't feel tired for some reason. once i did manage to go to sleep, i woke up at about 4 am and my stomach felt like it was on FIRE. I'm serious, it KILLED (not quite like a kidney stone hurts but it sucked). I almost threw up because my stomach was churning and on fire. I really have no idea what the hell happened but I took pepto bismol and it just made it worse, so i started eating antacids and i dont think that really helped either. I finally went into my living room and layed down on my futon and managed to fall asleep like almost an hour later. now my stomach is still messed up but i'm surviving and at work... this could be a very, very long day..........

Gir: Good luck with that job interview that you just had... hopefully something good comes out of it. I'm "networking" right now and see if i can in someplace through people.... For the g/a... from the codes that came up it sort of sounds like a BCM issue with teh security and the serial data.... and at that point the knock sensor could be too. For the misfire... I dunno. Why exactly they couldn't do a pressure test or leak test? that sounds a little odd.

Vipey: I can sympathize with you on the sleep part and the stomach part. I normally have a hard time falling the sleep all the time. so i lay awake until 1-2 am easily if not later. As far as the stomach stuff... becareful with that, if your not prone to stomach problems.... like me :disappoin. Damn family genetics! Just make sure you didn't eat something out of the ordinary that would have caused it.. and pepto can be your friend! MMMMM Pink Chalky liquid that tastes like Peppomint breathsavers...

Wow that is alot of codes for just having it in the shop.
P1610 is the BCM and its probley not working. Does your SVS light come on right after you start the car ?
This is the only code my GT has continuously thrown.
Mine /iswas caused by the water leaking on my fuse box(s).
Toasting the BCM.
If you have to get a used one it has to have the same options as your car, ie power windows, same stereo etc etc. AND these have to be programed by a stealerships Tech II scan tool.

I'd try clearing them all and see if they come back.
Could have been that you connected the gauge while it was running.

i have a rippling belly.. does that count? :grinyes:

Since ive been stuck at home the past month I havent been able to go to my fav. gym. been puttin on some extra, which I guess is 'ok'... since winter is right around the cornor...

I think I've decided on getting a 07 Cobalt SS/SC, been lookin at recall info, parts and upgrades, what other people have done with them. The available upgrades from GM-Performance Parts  Stage2 or 3 can be found cheaper online surprisingly for a easy $550 get 40+hp. Only thing with stage3 is that I would need at LEAST 93oct all the time without question as well PCM support for 50shot dry No2 hmm. only bad feature is my AC is diabled .. wtf? :uhoh:

I would prob get hptuner software, to do my own tuning. they also sell individual stage whatever parts... like a 2nd pass cooler for the supercharger heatsink that coolant runs through which is niceee... colder air going in.

As well as bolt on stuff from injen with MR(mega ram... I actually like this idea, I read up on it... makes sense too) Few brand selections from HAHNS, borla, and magnaflow for cat-backs to headers... I watched a HAHNS full exhaust vid on youtube. headers, cat, cat-back all pieced and it didnt sound half bad... hardly even ricer, nice tone

On top of everything though Ive been looking thru cobalt forums and these little ecotech engines are mighty strong from what it seems, they can take some abuse.... other than the OEM clutch slipping, (glazing problem, overheats) I can replace that =p

Since I like 'fun' driving, going on backroads and such doing turns... cobalts perform pretty well... I think I've made my choice on my next 'sport compact' project.

Prob get SS/SC in black or white with black leather interior :naughty: sexah

The available upgrades from GM-Performance Parts  Stage2 or 3 can be found cheaper online surprisingly for a easy $550 get 40+hp. Only thing with stage3 is that I would need at LEAST 93oct all the time without question as well PCM support for 50shot dry No2 hmm. only bad feature is my AC is diabled .. wtf? :uhoh:...

Shouldn't you be in better shape... you don't really have a working car? You did that walk to the shop that one day!!!

Colbalt SS/SC... good choice over the G5! I'm amazed that they are sister cars and yet the colbalt is sooo much better in the end. The ecotec engine in the cobalt has a lot more upgrades. There was some show on the speed channel that did a cobalt project where they tuned it up to get lots-o horsies out of it. For the colors... I personally like the Blue and the yellow colors. But the white and black are just as nice. black leather a +!

yea, that walk was brutal, but I did it lol didnt have any other choice!

yea the only rival the cobalt SS/SC has is the SRT-4 which starts off at 230hp stock w/ that turbo, If I were to get the cobalt my goal would be at least 300+hp  and I'd be set.

Im sure by then Id be doing major engine mods, cams and such, P&P

IMO the Cobalt is a little better then the SRT-4. i've seen too many people have to get engines replaces at 20-30K do to spinning bearings. Also every SRT-4 I ever come across always sounds like it's backfiring... Can anyone explain that to me???

Every car does that to some extent... What i'm talkin about is the srt-4's i see when they are slowing down or downshifting.. whatever. It sounds like... Cough, cough, cough, sputter, sputter, sputter, cough, sputter, cough, cough. I'm sure that's a real help... I need to find some sound footage.

Hey XI, is it possible to clean out a fuel tank rather than buying a new one?

update on Zeeeh car... those injectors are like half way filled with sh*t! on the inlet side, brand new injectors too

what they're goin to do is flush the fuel lines in reverse with the filter off to see if that cleans it completely out. other than that... I was wanting to know if the tank can be taken out and cleaned from where the pump installs...

Yea Gir you can drain and clean out the tank.
If'n you replaced the fuel pump, I usualy do it then.

The lines do get build up and it does need blown out sometimes.

Hopefully this will solve your troubles !!

I took gir's idea and searched on Youtube... I'm guess it's seems to be a normal occurance. I would hope though your g/a doesn't sound like a little 4 banger.... that would be very saddening to me...

Jeez I agree with Vipey did someone put something in your tank? I know there some build up over time but isnt that a little in excessive amounts?! Either way good luck, hopefully once this is done you'll be back on the road. Also is it hot enough down there for ya? I saw your hitting the triple digit temps. We've cooled down alot around here( upper 70's today). My step cousin who from the houston area, is up here for the week, and is loving the cooler weather compared to down there! Downside is it's raining so hard it's floodin!

hey it's a nice temperature up here today (at least this morning)! And cloudy! YAY FOR CLOUDS! But they are supposed to go away :( God this has been the most annoying year for rain ever... virtually nonexistant. In fact I can only remember one time the ENTIRE SUMMER I walked in the rain. It's so retarded... like I said, as soon as I switched to Meteorology as a major, the weather decided to be :gay: :(

Yea I cant complain about the no rain.
Or the lower humidity and temps....

I thought I was going to stroke out the other day it was so damn hott. :uhoh:
They say you can get used to the heat, I'm not so sure about that.....

Check it out, i've been doin some modeling :p

any proper procedure? because this guy im workin with makes it seem like almost a non theory, what should be used to clean it out?

He was tellin me there are chambers in the tank which is understandable but that wont stop a high pressure water hose going into the inlet of the tank and filling that pos up lol

I understand that one... once my girl got into the meteorology thing, weather events became "unusual" and not following standard weather patterns. She's been so stressed for her move, that she hasn't even followed the weather in the past few weeks.

Xi: Nice model. Is that a Firebird? I think i had that exact same one just i painted mine black, then lowered it, put different rims on it and tinted the windows. But it's no more ( i have fun building then once i get sick of it i destroy... muhahahahah) good luck on those hinges... that's a lot of work to make that happen.

at this time they are wanting to replace my gas tank :banghead: $$$

small update, the stuff that was clogged in the injectors was little bits of metal or shavings from my old old pump.. arg, it crapped out and crapped on itself in the lines..

so far, they've cleaned the injectors, did the flush, exchanged pumps, new filter... and now they want to do the fuel tank :banghead:

That traffic jam was the gayest ever... my friends called me and randomly asked if i wanted to go to Indianapolis so I said yes. We went there, I danced a bunch at a ballroom dance party, then we headed home. We left at 11:15. We weren't even out of Indy yet when we hit a traffic jam. Let's put it this way... the traffic jam was LONGER THAN THE DRIVE ITSELF. To put it into perspective, the drive is normally an hour. We took over two and a half HOURS to make a one hour drive due to F@#$ING ROAD CONSTRUCTION!!!!!! I was soooooo pissed... so here I am at 2 AM just got home... and my friend has to work at 6 AM... I feel bad for her cause she's a nurse!

ARGGGG I want to kill things sometimes :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Gir, you can just clean the tank with GAS !
I wouldnt use a pressure washer, water will hideout in there and that'll cause more problems.
Get a used tank if it HAS to be replaced,
a new one is not cheap!!!!
Also I dont thinkg thier is any way metal came from the old fuel pump, let alone go through it from inside the tank :grinno:

grfnkl, yea thats a firechicken my boys put together years ago. They painted it then glued it together with out scraping the paint of the glue areas, so it all was falling apart and was trash. Right now I have the other door cut out and the trunk lid. Then I'll see if I can get it all back together...... :sly:

Vipey, I bet most of that traffic was from the State Fair!
I was there untill 11:30 lastnight. Luckily I blasted around some side streets and got to the highway before all the caos started. Was a great night for the Fair though, nice and cool. :D
