Lambo Green Scion.... I just don't know about that color... :uhoh:

Strange wildnerness... :banghead: That movie just isn't for me. I get annoyed just watching the previews for it.

Out on my adventures this morning... I learned a new trick in the 6. I figured out if you hold down the Traction Control button not only do you turn off the T/C you also can turn off the Stability control. :iceslolan WAY MORE FUN TO BE HAD :naughty: I played around real briefly with it ( too many cops around) but I did manage to slide sideways around the corner onto my street and keep the wheels spinning half way up the street. I feel that this could be trouble for me!

gonna get angel eye foglights when i get money for my birthday... getting torque wrenches to do car work, a very expensive $50 bottle of tequilla, and angel eyes ;) since one of my foglights is out. Then my fogs will be brighter than my headlights LOL :D

Grand Am headlights are teh :gay:

Then I get my reverse light fixed this weekend as well as rear strut bar put on, with subwoofer put back in the sealed box, hooked back up, then bring car in to get gasket fixed and probably P&P intake manifolds....

btw, how much HP will I get out of P&P my UIM and LIM?

i have a 97 grabd am quad 4 that leaks oil on the spark plugs anu advice

First off welcome..... second This isn't really where you want to post for answers. You are better off starting a new thread in the grand am forums for faster repsonses and answers. You also may want to include where the oil is coming from External vs internal, and mileage of your car with the other information listed above. To me it sounds like a leaky valve cover gasket though, but back track and find where the oil is coming first.

Man I'm tired tonight. All i've been doing the past few weeks is helping out at my Mother-in-laws moving furniture. tonight was moving stuff out of the basement for it to be fixed up. Now I'm tired and I feel my allergies kicking up from the dust. Yuck!

Yeah the weather is all sorts of weird. It was in the 60's yesterday today in the lower 40's and by the weekend it will be in the 20's. That's just crazy. I think we are supposed to get an icy mix tomorrow night or something.

I've been looking into things I shouldn't be for my 6. I've been looking into CAI, a PCM tune, GT-R exhaust. Yeah things I really shouldn't be looking into since I won't be able to enjoy them and on top of that I don't have the money for it. Oh well

Dr. Speed makes CAI for G6 but the g6performance.com site is saying that he hasnt been on in months, someone said somewhere that he might of hurt his back or something.. but no surprise.. it took me nearly 2 months to get my dr.speed intake!

i hear that GT-R exhaust is nice, you can prob find youtube clips of the sound

g6performance.com would have more info with the PCM tune im sure :grinyes:

grfnkl
02-08-2008, 02:34 PM
Yeah I know about Dr Speed ( kyle) he hasn't been around in months. I don't know what happened thought to him. There's another guy that i know that makes his own CAI called the CRAB. it comes with a functional airbox that could be hooked up to the MPD ram air hood. So that would be my other alternative. The GT-R Exhaust is sweet sounding, especially on the GTP like mine. I am at the G6P site so I've met a lot of ppl that have these things so i know what I'm looking at and where and how much, etc... I'm not hard to find there either... Hmmm.... grfnkl... hahahah I'm just not good for screen name changes. :cwm27:

finally the weekend! :D

Its funny how only certain car makes/models ever get aftermarket and performance parts, never understood that.

That CRAB sounds cool! Makes sense too utalise the ram hood, some of the GA SCT's have a functional hood, not many tho.
This guy at work(roboticgod) has an 05 sct , and his hood doesnt go into the air box, though we're working on making it functionall.

Here's a link (http://www.crabintakes.com/) for the crab intake. IF i were to go for it I would go for the regular air box and not the ram air one, since I personally don't like the Ram Air hood for the 6. :shakehead The SC/t Hood for the grand am was much better designed. I know of roboticgod. I haven't seen him around much on the forums. I know the GM SC/T hood was more for appearance then functionality, unlike some of the aftermarkets... Oh well I guess you can't get it all!

Just taking one mod at a time.

I like how that one CAI goes in front of the engine to the pass side. That doesnt seem like it would be a Cold air intake, a HAI maybe. lol

Its bitter cold here today, 15 deg with a 40 mph wind making it feel like -10. :thumbsdow

grfnkl
02-10-2008, 06:33 PM
Yeah it's not really a CAI, by the time it gets to the engine it's more of a WAI. I know somepeople have worked on making custom heatsheilds. I personally havn't seen too much heat soke on mine, just on occasion.

It got really windy here too earlier! We also had a snow shower that coated everything with snow! I know tonight it;s gonna go down to about 18 degrees.. :runaround: It's gonna be COLD here too!

xeroinfinity
02-10-2008, 06:53 PM
If i was going to snake the CAI acrossed like that I would run it in front of the radiator like a inter coolr.
I thought about trying to put a inter cooler on the SE with out any boost, but I doubt any big gains . It would have some people wondering when they see it tho. :D

yeah single digits here tonight, with that 30-40mph wind making it feel -10. I'm getting ready to see if the GT will fire up, its about 15 deg now, I suspect it'll crank slow and tick for several minutes. :shakehead

Ive noticed that there seems to be a power issue in my car... everything will dim for a second then go back... it seems to have effect even on my fuel pump, I can hear the whine goto a lower tone and watch my headlights also dim...

Alternator?

I noticed this the other night just in idle waiting on my girl to hurry up, dunno really what the issue would be...

I fixed my other coolant leak I had, basically as a block, I put some 3/8th rubber bulb like plugs and tighten'd them down on the black coolant metal line over the headers, they didnt last but a year or so and finally cracked under pressure and started to squirt out a good amount of coolant... so I re-ran some threaded fuel return lines to the TB and back, no leaks now and working I guess how it should of been lol

Also, I dunno if my TPS sensor is just old or needs to be cleaned, pulled a code like P0122 or something like that, found out it was my TPS sensor, just sorta wiggled it and the engine sounded better running on the spot.... because it was messed up somehow, my tranny was just doing very hard gear shifting like P -> R and anything else ... sorta like BOOM, I just parked it and scanned the code w/ my gauge and looked it up here... but its working now, didnt even clean it but im sure a electronics clean of my car would be nice

grfnkl
02-12-2008, 11:08 AM
Gir- It sounds like you have a power leak/surge somewhere causing the random drain on the electrical. I've never really seen an alternator do that, other then if a few internal electrodes go out, but you would see more of a consistant flickering of your lights. If anything put a volt meter up to it and check it out. Seems like you've had a lot of coolant leaks and SES lights recently as well.

Well today some snow/ ice and rain for us.... Oh joy! I better get out and start my girls car today before this crap comes about!

Hey Gir, the Zone can test your alternator load on the car to see if its the problem. But I'd suspect battery cables and some of those ground straps , battery to block, block to body etc etc.
I'd also check those tail light fixtures, if they are getting melted or corroded, that'll cause your dimming. ;)

yea, I thought about it being tested.. altho I can see it working with my gauge... on the voltage, it goes up to about 14.1 or so in idle and of course its around 12 when its just acc on :dunno:

it may be a leak from what I think, cause nothing else is brighter, and it just dims randomly ....

The count was funny!

It was nice and warm out today here! I managed to vacuum the front seat area of the 6. :grinyes: Tomorrow I'm gonna try to go to the salvage yard, i found one with a 90 G/a in it with the 2.5L 4cyl! It's a maroon colored 2 door as well! so I may even get lucky for other parts! I just have to watch out on how much i spend.

xeroinfinity
02-18-2008, 05:53 PM
Yeah grfnkl salvage yards around here are getting thinned out big time!
Most places around here are crushing everything more then 10 years old, so parts are dwindling down... :disappoin

What all is your 90 needing ?

grfnkl
02-18-2008, 06:29 PM
Well it's parts for my 88 but anything from 85-91 will fit other then some exterior parts on different trim lines and a few parts on the 89-91. I'm just trying to go the cheap route and get some parts. The interior has been all restored, other then two parts, which is the driver seat which has two small tears which i sewed up and an interior door trim which i broke when i redid the headliner but neither are a big deal. Exterior the only thing i would probably be able to find is the lower front air dam which is busted. The rear window facias I doubt I'll ever find in good condition, almost every one is broken in same way. The last things Im gonna look into is the fan shroud and the acclerator cable adjuster thingy. Pretty much anything mechanical I know I still can buy in the auto parts stores. I do have some extra parts for the car lying around as well. If i fix the accelerator and brake line, I'll have a running car again.

I know parts are becoming more harder to find, but as i find things i pick them up.

grfnkl
02-19-2008, 01:57 PM
OK well I'm back from the salvage yard! :naughty: i ended up with a few parts. A few others that i wanted but coudn't get off. So I got an accelerator unit, the upper fan shroud, the air connection to the fan shroud and the most surprising a rear driver side window fascia! I almost took off the one interior molding that i have broken, and thought about take a trunk lid, since it was the same color as mine and in good condition. I couldn't get to 2 other parts I wanted which was the lower front air dam, since the car was on the ground with no tires, there was no way for me to get that off, plus it looked a little different then mine, and the driverside window molding - that was in perfect condition, but I couldn't get to the bolts that held it on since I couldn't get the door all the way open. Oh well for 20 bucks I can't complain for what i got, since i know they are more money new if you can find them. Too bad this car wasn't an 88 or older otherwise there was a few other things I found like a front headerpanel in perfect condition. Oh well Take what you can get, i guess.

xeroinfinity
02-19-2008, 08:25 PM

yea, somewhat I have adapted myself an eagle eye out for the vics ... down to where I can see almost a 3/4th mile at night of just the headlights... they're sneaky here too, they have all the standard reflection stuff but its only with 'direct' light really...

In most cases you cant tell untill they're about 50ft away or if they drive under a street light and then you can see the lights on top... undercover cops are rare but I dont see them much anyways, they either only have a maroon/navy blue/blackish grey color on their vics and heavily tinted windows... there are also some bike cops out... like 3 or 4 that mostly do traffic violations... using their new laser guns... you always see them busy with someone else though pulled over lol

A friend of mine had the hidden away strobes in his headlights, he would turn them on and people would move out of the way

For some reason my area they don't go all fancy on police cars. they are all your standard crown vics. Some of the neighboring towns that have nothing better to do with their time and money have a charger or some type of police SUV. My town's big achievement over a crown vic is a late 90's dodge caravan. Our undercover cars consist of the last model year caprice/impala's in some obvious color like GOLD or maroon nothing that blends into the rest of the cars on the road! Considering there are none on the road anymore... and here comes one in a gold paint scheme... it tends to give it away.:grinyes: this past weekend i was in delaware and I saw a charger police car... but DAMN that thing looked plain jane. it was dark blue with tints, regular steel wheels, debadged so no emblems... and all the light bars were hidden, so if this thing came up on you... you wouldn't even realize until it was too late! :uhoh:

Gir-_-

Nothing like a 3cyl, 70 horsepower tissue box on wheels. I know he went through a few timing chains, clutch, head gasket, I'm sure pistons and a few other major engine parts... but then again my neighbor would beat his cars up and take them apart when they working fine. If she want a G6 GTP... I'll sell her mine :iceslolan Since i doubt they'll pay want I would want... she's better off in a saturn, honda something small but affordable.

yup yup, I figured the same... ive heard nothing good about geo but her dad is going off of his 'reliable' experience he had with his back in the day, the guy ended up flipping his metro though .. go figure.

Ive been pointing her in the direction of toyota/nissan/honda at least, been telling her to talk with her dad on that one, I dont want to really want to place my worthy opinion vs his, cause I'm not the one buying it lol

I told her, I'm not going to fix it if thats what you get heh

One good thing about the Geo is thier isnt much to go wrong, pretty basic 3 cyl.

Fact - If two adults in the back seat(haha) move back and forth in sync , you can spin the car , into a ditch.

I skimmed across the threads in the geo metro section of AF ... lots of dead engines, bad ignition, noise from the rear? .. injectors & more

alot of just starting & ignition issues... and some random others.... but I would assume wear and tear for most

I did a check on cars.com / autotrader.com and craigslist.org ... found all but 1 geo metro with 76k miles automatic

this weekend ill be hanging out with my guy from kwik kar, we've became pretty good friends... found out he plays a good deal of xbox haha... Ill be asking him for his opinion too since my girl will be there with us...

Just popping in from another board... I would say if he wants to get a reliable car... get an older toyota or like a nissan maixma. Those are great cars and they'll run forever. The camry, if its been taken care of maint wise will run forever. My sister in law has had two that went over 300K.

Take that over a Metro any day!
