That should do it as long as your calipers are in good working order.
Here are those lines from pfyc... cheaper then Napa.

Speaking of brakes.... I finally got the rear tire off my G/a the other day, got the car all jacked up, took a look at the brake lines and sure enough they look great. The fittings don't look so hot, but otherwise everything looks great. So I go pump the brakes to see what happens, the first two pumps right to the floor no pressure, suddenly after that I have pressure again... and nothing is leaking on the ground. :banghead: Man this car likes to play with my head. So Hopefully within the next few day I can charge the battery up and see what happens when the car is running. I see a lot of work ahead of me though :runaround: The amount of rust coming off the car is crazy right now.... but it doesn't look that bad right now from what i see, again a lot of work ahead for me.

Sounds like you're going to have your hands full grfnkl.
I still see many 86-90 Grand am's on the road over this way. My wifes 86 GA w/3L is still regesterd and as far as I know its still running strong since I sold it in 97'.
That late 80's models were quick little 2 doors!
It blew away my '76 442 & my '89 Firebird up to around 60mph many times, after that though the V8's would catch up and walk away. :ylsuper:

there is barely any of the older grand am's on the road around here anymore. I barely see anything older then 96 on the road anymore. there is 1 88 G/a almost identical to mine that is about 2 blocks from my house. Looks like it's in pretty good shape too. They can be quick little cars. My fathers had the 3.0 under the hood. mine only has the 2.5, which is "fast" at a big 98 horsepower, but I can get that car moving... :naughty: I'll know more about the car later on this week sometime. Right now I'm contending with limited money, and wedding plans. almost 2 more months for me guys... :runaround:

so my car did something pretty odd tonight... I was going about 25mph in my neighborhood.. going home and my car did this cut/kill sorta thing...
like, it sputtered bad like kill gas kill gas kill gas, then stopped... for a sec then did it a little bit more... and then it stopped... and I noticed my spedo went up to like 80mph
edit:
now that I think about it, it could of been a whole cycl misfire or not getting fuel somewhere... my fuel system is still not really functional as there is still little bits of that stuff in my fuel lines cause of that idiot mechanic leaving the old fuel filter on, I've noticed that after long long trips my pump is wanting to kill itself, it just lets out a really high pitch whine (which im sure is going to kill it)... one time on a long trip I was just driving and my car died and we just started rolling at 70mph with limited steering/brakes, scary!, I had enough room to just pull over and let it sit for a sec

Sounds like it's time to trade it in !
Or set it on fire*!
J/K !
Didnt you replace your fuel pump last year ?
Sounds like it might be clogged on the tank screen...
I'd keep changing your filter often, I do and the gas the runs out is always blackish.

Geez gir... that doesn't sound too good. you know by the time you get the car running the way it should you'll be trading it in. Hopefully it's the filter just a little clogged... and not more injector clogs among other things.

yea, its been doin good so far, since that night... I was asking a friend about it and he said it might be my TPS sensor on the TB, I had a little hiccup with mine a while back... had a engine code and it was the TPS sensor... we just tapped it a little bit and my car stopped doing 'extremely hard shifts' lol, It could be possible, the TPS relays to the PCM how open the throttle is right? would that have any effect of how much fuel to deliver? or is that just the MAF?
I do need to trade this car in, even tho I still like driving it lol... I just dont know what other car I'd get for now... eventually I want a NEW car lol

gee thanks for that one XI.... it was like playing a game duck hunt trying to catch the damn window. then i got myself into a nasty cycle of hitting enter too many times so it kept coming back. :nono:
TPS will definitely give you the hard shifts, not sure about what you experienced the other night. You didn't get any SES lights? Well keep it running for as long as you can their Gir. I'm looking for something cheap on gas for myself right now... plus it should be a beater car. I'm thinking of asking my neighbor on what he's willing to sell a VW golf he has. It hasn't run in a few years and when they got it from my other neighbor it wouldn't start, but I know they are not VW guys so they know nothing of these cars (not like i do either). They are more of a Ford or GM guys... but if he's willing to sell it cheap I'll get it fixed and bam i got a nice little Beater thats good on gas! then I'll sell my 6 and get out from having monthly payments... for the time being.

True, but my SE has the stock TPS and it hasnt missed a beat it has about the same mileage too.
But if you seen a code for it , might as well replace it before it craps out when you're on the road somewhere.
.....road side repairs are dangerous. :grinyes:

Well i finally sort of have a job. I'm working for someone that works for a hotel, but I'm not employed at this hotel. Pretty much the way I'm looking at it, is that I'm a "freelance sales consultant" I love making up my own titles. I make up my own hours and days that i work, and pretty much all i have to do is bring in business. Anything that comes in I get a commission off of. So i guess it's not a bad deal all in all. Plus I still can collect unemployment and the 6er gets a workout now every couple days :iceslolan.

Yeah i can't complain for making my own schedule. It's all good though, since it gets me out of the house for a few hours a couple days during the week. The weather here has been crappy. It's been cool and cloudy the last few days and this weekend would have been nice if it wasn't so windy. We also finally got a new roof on our house, so no more leaks over my room. The only problem is I have to watch out for nails, and my 6 has to be parked halfway up the street since there is still a dumpster in front of the house. :runaround:

woo man, im sore
I finally started my new job yesterday as a porter at my local pontiac dealership (who would of thought that! haha). Working in a wash bay area is sorta fun, I like the fact that I'm moving around constantly, makes the day go by faster... washing and detailing cars to 'dealership' new car perfection... helps for my so called ADD (they said I had it like 3rd grade, whatever haha). But yea, I'm picking up some water resistant work boot/like shoes and that're also slip resistant... also putting in some gel pads in my shoes lol... my feet are killin me!, my wrist and hands hurt the first day, not so much today.. I need to wear gloves though, always twisting the aqua dry towels after washing hurts my hands. Today I got nipped by the high pressure hose, it might as well be a sand blaster... it ripped right through the skin lol, like exactly the crease of wear the pinky finger meets the actual hand... ouch!

Congrats on the new job gir! I was going to apply to job like that at a mercedes dealer right next to my house... but I didn't and I now have this job. At least your getting some income in. I don't know if you do or not, but maybe you get a discount so then you can get your car fixed for a little cheaper... if not you're gonna a super shiney G/a from the detailing experience :grinyes:
Xi: we had no choice on the roof since a whole section of shingles blew off in a wind storm, then anytime it rained after that it would leak. At least it's all done, and no more leaks over my room. They finaly took the dumpster yesterday so now i cna park in front of the house. My father has one of those magnet things and he walks around at least a couple times a day checking for nails. The only downside right now is we have two more neighbors looking to replace their roofs now too. So we'll have to watch out for nails for awhile. :frown: My street is turning into a construction zone... :runaround:

So I have a question for you guys... I'm looking at the 6-spd auto tranny swap into my grand am, because it can handle a crapton... so I have a ocuple questions:
1) DOes it have a limited slip differential in it?
2) What is it actually CALLED?
3) I know it will bolt up to my grand am, but how much would buying a new transmission like this COST?
That's all I can think of for now... I know someone who would put it in, but I need to figure out whether or not this thing has an LSD and its price before I go throwing several thousand in to replace my aging tranny (and yes I will turbo or supercharge my car if I get this new tranny put in, have to make use of the horsepower availability hehehehe!)

I would go for the 6-speed manual over a 6 speed auto but that's just me. To answer your questions.
1. Not really, that's why the cars come with traction control. But i've heard there is some form of one in the car, but it's not like the old cars that had them. I think it's the T/C someone was thinking to be honest.
2. A tranny swap?! Is that what you are looking for?
3. If you are buy a brand new tranny with all the "stuff" you would probably looking anywhere from 1,000 + possibily up to 2,500$'s Depending on the trans, and the parts that are needed. I've seen used f40's ( which is the 6 speed manuals) on ebay for 600 bucks and that's just for the case and nothing else.
You're planning on putting a lot into that G/a there! Share the wealth! :grinyes:

Yeah the g6's f40 6 speed mannys can be bolted up to the G/a's 3.4 engine... or at least from what i found out from a grand am guy who is doing so. the only thing that has to be done is the clutch plate has to be fabricated??!( if i recalled correctly.) I haven't heard from that guy about his project in awhile... so I don't know the status and if he encountered any problems.

With the G6 manual or auto you are going to need someone to hack the pcm to control either trans.
Though either one should bolt to the 3.4s a mount could be in the wrong position and need fabricated.
I'd look into MMS 4t65e and 4t65hd kit(s). Its been done a lot he just offers a kit , bolt on is great ! :grinyes:
1 yes all transmission do, with a few exceptions in imports.
2 LSD .... lol

http://www.v8archie.com/v8Archie/Products/6spTranny/6speed1.gif
Since everything these days is electronic its more difficult to do swaps.
Also the auto is just a 4 spd semi-automatic, must be faster.
I'd say it would cost more then the 4T65HD conversion, this is one of the better FWD tranys out there(IMO) with a lot of mods available.
And the G6 GTP 252 hp 3.6L V6 engine has StabiliTrak®- Close-ratio-6-speed auto transmission
On a side note it looks like spring took a vacation this weekend here, I think its going to snow ....... I was wearing shorts and t shirt last weekend. :disappoin
have a great week everyone!
2 LSD .... lol
3 Dealer part as thier are not many in the salvage areas yet, so pricey. Try this link.... goto thier catalog.

i dont have the money to get a new car but i'll need a trans soon, which is why I was asking about a trans swap :p
So the grand prix GTP swap sounds more reasonable than the 6-spd auto G6 GTP transmission? Is it because of strength or because it wouled be cheaper? Which would be better in the end?
I'll need the strength if i plan to turbo it, which is why I'm asking :naughty:

The 6 spd manual would take more fabrication for the everything to work. Unless thiers a kit for it too somewhere.
I just looked at MMS (http://milzymotorsports.com/) he lists a 6 spd 99-05 swap for the grand am's, $3500 -
Damn ! I'd like to see this.... guess he's looking for guinea pigs .. you live pretty close to him too Vipey ! ;)
IMO the transmission I built for the SE will hold up to boosting and plenty of HP, it gets better everytime I drive it. :)

You sure it will handle boost PLUS engine mods? Am I able to get the clutch plates you got? Didn;t you have a list of parts that I'd need to get it rebuilt?
Thanks :D
Thanks :D

I dont think you can get the clutchs I have yet but the Raybestos blue plates will hold up great too. Most of the guys running boost with the automatic is using these.
This looks great for $3500, GXP LS4 5300 fwd V8 engine.

yeah the GT is geared a little lower which is quicker.
It can be changed, both my GA"S hav the GT trans.

ok?? lol, I was just saying that spending so much money into a tranny swap like a 6spd would be a waste IMO... Unless a to-do kit was easily available, more power to ya.. I say just HD kit, plus limited slip and new fabbed clutch plates would be ideal (at this time)
dont get me wrong, I really like driving my grand am, I beat it up everyday ! :D
I drove a ls2 GTO at my job on saturday, MMMmmmm... man, what a rush

I agree with what you are saying. There's that point of putting too much in for the age and mileage. When youre sinking 2 grand in parts to make your grand am about 20 or maybe 30 hp faster on an engine with almost 200k miles, you have to start asking is it really worth it. but that's just me. If I had a G/a as a spare car to mod and a different car as a daily driver then thats an entirely different story then.
You got to drive a GTO! SWEET! I wouldnt mind test driving one myself... or then new G8. Have you been in one yet?

I was just messin with you Gir LOL
I figure Ive done sunk the battleship with mods on the SE, what's another $2-4K.
Yeah the GTO's are realy nice, Ive driven 4-5 different ones and they are all quick!
I just had a G8 in the shop last week for some rear quarter repairs, backed into something, :screwy: people.
Had another customer wanting me to lower his G5 , told'em I'd have to shop around first.
I was hoping GM would do a AWD G8 turbo but I doubt they'll have anything that fun coming soon.
I think the next car I buy will have to be RWD, either a 99+ TA or a GTO.... :dunno:
....all work and no play, makes xero mad! :angryfire:
PS- I talked to "betty" at SS headers, apparently my order got sscrewed... :uhoh: Had to redo my order and they were sent out, so hopefuly they'll get here sooon! non coated ship imediatly. ;)

Sorry to hear Vipey ! Did yo ufigure out where it was leaking ?
You think its a hose , either the TB lines or your main radiator hose. or is it leaking on both sides of the motor, like the LI leaking ?
Time to get it into the shop, before summer gets here. :D

not sure yet, buying a 24 pack of water and driving it slowly to a dealership lol, i'll keep pouring water in as it drains out... gonna be tricky and dangerous but i have no other way :(
prolly a hose or the water pump... figured it's the hose since if it's rubber, it's like playing with an old rubber band... it breaks! and when he repaired my LIM gasket, it probably got crusty and 'sploded.

Hey Vipey... that sucks man. That's a lof coolant leaking out and pretty fast as you describe. You couldn't see where it was leaking from? It's probably a hose maybe the water pump, but i'd guess hose first. Good luck though.

Wow !
Did you all hear about the earthquake in Ill ??
I felt it about 5:30am this morning way up here, and about 10 minutes ago I felt an after shock... well I thought someone ran into my building at first, but it had to be an after shock because no one hit my building.
Have a Great week end everyone !

Yeah I heard about that earthquake. that's rare for that area. I don't think about it much but if a relatively significant quake hits this area...it's gonna be bad! Yeah Gir those headers are pricey, I bought the non coated ones which are $150 cheaper. It's not like I'll be poppin the hood for show-n-tell or any car shows with the GT, the SE is another story tho. :D
Those little Solstice's are kinda neat, but way to small for me. I drove one last year, fast and peppy! It was just about totaled out(someone ran off the road into a tree) when they brought it to me to repair.
But an LS7 in one, that would be insane !!

Yeah I did breakfast club yesterday.... I still feel like crap lol :p
But yeah, this could be bad... coolant leaking from engine AGAIN... turns out CJM didn't put my engine back together properly (bolts in the wrong place and my UIM is missing a bolt), but this might not be a manifold issue. THis might be a leaking head gasket or front timing cover gasket this time... which would mean I go bankrupt lol.
I'm seriously just going to buy a wrx, my grand am is going down the tubes quickly :(
I might actually own a grand prix GT here shortly... my dad might buy me one to temporarily use, one with almost all the options, black leather interior, etc. That would roxxor!!!

I do remember I recomended you change your head gaskets when you got the LIM done.
I always try to do this if the automobile has close or over 100k miles. Just because, it realy sucks doing a LI and then have to pull it all apart agian.
Did you get a warranty with your LI from CJM ??
Those bolts could have vibrated out if they were not torqued to the new spec.
Hope its not to bad Vipey!
