eh
i had a post previously but uhhhh nvm lol
basically winterizing the GA tomorrow hopefully, doing a coolant flush (need to check level, inspect for leaks) sometimes the check lvl light comes on but only if I do something with hard Gs turning hehe or speeding up a hill... could just be swishin around to trigger the sensor, fuel filter change(needed, no idea when last was changed), fuel injection cleaning(no idea when last was done) and checking trans fluid level(finally lol) as well tire pressure(its cold)... anything else I should be checking for? PCV Valve is still pretty clean, TB cleaner also came up as an option but last time I did that it cleaned it pretty good....
since it got cold the GA does a little chug then starts, almost wont start if I dont open up the throttle a little bit

It sounds like you got most everything covered for the winter check up. The only thing i can think of is Tire tread, Which shouldn't be a problem since i believe you have new tires.... and wiper blades. As stupid as this may sound check them. I had wiper blades break on me in the winter during a snow storm. not fun when it's dangling off the car.
Nothing like a brand new thread to tear up!!!!

yea brand new tires, not even 2k miles on them I think...
wiper blades hmmm... good idea.. I remember last winter they froze into ice and it was just ice on ice heh.... they've been in the sun since, still original factory I think... they're pretty crappy, been meaning to change them out but never gotten around to it....
Isnt there fluid I could use that'd melt frost off of the window w/o it cracking? or I still have to do the heater warmth thru the inside... (this morning was fun seeing thru a small hole in the window speeding to work) and man, id be lost w/o my rear window defrost....

Aren't you glad that you posted this! LOL. You could use the windsheild washer fluid that melts ice. It's a yellow color. Basically it has some anitfreeze in it. I've used that before to clear the windows. I've done the small hole in the window myself a quite a few times, plus I've done it with no rear window defrost as well. I learned last year how to deal without mine being that it would melt off the window and throw sparks all over the back seat. and the next person with my G/a Must be cursing that car out. LOL.

Some GA's just dont like the cold
My SE is worry free, the GT chuggs and sputters for a couple seconds when its real cold.
Since its been cold down your way Gir, I'd get a tester for your anti freeze and make sure you are protected.
Nothing like finding a cracked engine block in the morning :shakehead
Windshield wipers are very important to me. I change them every 6months more if they are leaving streeks on the glass or squealing or skipping.
Silicone wipers are the best I found seam to scrape bugs well without taring up the edge. Pricey though!
It doesnt hurt to have a can of that window deicer.
Works great for frozen locks and doors that are froze shut
I keep armorall on the seals to keep mine from freezing shut
Looks like the worst of the storm missed me.
We had some freezinf rain and snow yestarday/last night, not enough to play in though :(
Guess they'll be other snows :shakehead
Edit: :uhoh:
I just updated the disassembly page with some knob info

My Gt Chugged as well when it was cold out.... If it was around 50-60 degrees out that's when the car ran the best. Otherwise.... NOPE! My 88 didn't mind the colder weather it just idled high until it would warm up. that car only ran bad when sitting in traffic, or on rainy days.
The storm blew right by us yesterday. The only thing was we were under a Tornado Watch last night which is pretty rare for us. The winds got pretty bad by getting upto 50+ mph and some rain Otherwise, nothing other then that!

Yeah the wind was crazy here... but could have been worse. It's really cold here now though... I'm not used to this at all!
I'm having one of those "days" at work today were i don't feel like working... ( well I never really do ) but i can't find anything to do. I finished what i had to do... and now i'm up to nothing. I've been on and off of the interent with nothing.... and I've must have checked my Myspace and e-mail about 100 times with nothing new there. It's very frustrating! Then i was talking to my managers and basically they were saying for me to look around for new "oppurtunities" not that i'm getting laid off or anything just for me to move on cuz they are,.... I dunno know.. a lot running through my mind. I guess I won't be sleeping tonight! LOL
later guys, stay warm if need be!

Its been cold as hell today !
High of 20
One of those days .........
Sometimes trying to look busy is hard business :grinyes:
:uhoh: At least they didnt ask you to go sweep the parking lot clean :bloated:
If you need a new job, better pick up a secound or third language first.
I know several people who are looking for work, and from what I hear it sucks.
Though it is easier to find work when you already have a job. For some reason employers like that. :headshake

It's quite Nipply here today... Brrrrr. My car had "ICE POSSIBLE" on the display, so it was rather cold.... but nice thing for remote start! LOL
Well looking busy is very hard to do somedays. Today is a nother prime example of that. Our phone lines were down... so no incoming calls... so no business could be conducted! I swear cleaning the parking lot sounds like a treat somedays! The other day i took christmas lights and put them all over a tree by the main entrance since i had nothing better to do. Oh well though. I'm getting paid for it regardless! :cwm27: I think it's time for an afternoon nap due to boredum!!

grrr, it did it again...
This time I havent even touched anything in the engine bay heh I SWEAR! lol
Me and a friend went to some place to check somethin out, came back to the GA and tried to start it, pushed the pedal down as I normally do to 'ensure' it will start... it goes .. *click* and nada, didnt even chug... radio reset :dunno: nothing else happened, opened up the hood looked around .. :dunno: .. waited prob about 3mins .. gave it another try... some chug but not enough to start... waited prob 6 more mins... .. opened the throttle a little more than normal and it started :screwy: go figure, was running fine.. doing its normal weird idle.. (tensioner moves alot, sounds like it wants to die) ... past 2 mornings ive noticed an awkward warm idle... it feels/sounds like there is some sorta resistance in the engine on moving parts :dunno: .. coolant level is way low, and def needs to be flushed  looks nasty... pulled out the dip stick to check oil level, its full. didnt see any other misc fluids.. hopeing for coolant to maybe show....
I think when I get it serviced this saturday, going to do things orderly...
Coolant removed/flushed/replaced, then change oil and inspect for coolant... new fuel filter + fuel injection cleaned
anything else I should be looking for?
its not cold or warm starts that might be the issue, just happens :dunno:
as for idle, it has resistance somewhere thats making it jump around... I feel it in the morning after temp is up to 200F and im at red light... just not running smooth.

Hey Gir, sounds like your battery was about dead.
If its newr, check you cables and make sure they are clean and tight :naughty:
I know with my 180 deg thermostats I've had to put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to keep it hot enough to keep heat blowing, so I can stay warm.
Almost Friday

Best to remove the Black(negative) first, then the +(positive) cant complete the circuit if you shorted out the + .
Reverse to install.
Just make sure thiers no greenish corrosion on your cables ends. If thier is scrape it out and you might use some baking soda and an old tooth brush to clean them up.
Then you can buy some electrical stuff to protect them from this, they sell it autozone in tiny square packages.
OH YA!
Might use some safty glasses when cleaning that crap, sucks real bad to get in your eye(s) :eek7:

It's supposed to SNOW here!!!! WohOO!:jump3: I doubt if it's gonna stick though but Hey it's SNOW!
XI, I figured out perfect explainations for the pics you posted! the one of on the wire, Well he was just trying to get a good look under the car ( he heard a noise) and the one in the pool, well After soccer practice she wanted to give the van a bath, so she put it in the pool This was before she added the soap! LMAO
gir : battery problems suck. Hopefully it's just the loose connection thing that everyone is now encountering! If not New battery time. Leaving the car on without the engine running has never left me with a shorter life span for the battery. So I doubt that would be the cause But i guess it's possible.

Yes I would get your cooling system flushed with some chemical stuff for that.
Then have the 180 stat put in, though if it gets realy cold you might not get alot of heat.
I have cardboard in front of the radiator on the GT now or its to cold :gay:
I just have to remember when it gets warmer, 40's, to remove it or it could get hot.
The SE works fine w/180 :dunno:

They are pretty easy to change if you have some tools handy.
Been boring since it got cold.
Here is the start of the newest Mod.
Does it look, scarry (http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/whaaautt.jpg)Lol !
Enjoy the warm up everyone !
WTF?:eek7: What is that supposed to be? it looked like either a face on a CD or Blueprints/wiring diagram. You know they make special programs so you can make labels for CD's... LOL Sorry had to...
Well I'm off to eat some Dinner.....

The link I gave was for a stealth twin turbo setup for a GTO :naughty:
design was pretty nice, vertical intercooler, both intakes coming from the bottom upinto the TB thru hosing, and turbos set back under the car protected by a shield .. each turbo right at the end on either side on the header manifold... pretty slick
the site for me at the moment isnt working :dunno:  oh well... it is hosted in aussy :D :aus:

What you havent seen that movie "Inconveniant Truth" ?
About global warming ...........
ITs not the getting hot that worryies me its the big cooldown after that, or should I say Iceage !?!
The link didnt work for me either....
I do believe some the GTO's are aussie made :grinyes:
They are pretty fast stock. I need to go and test drive an 07'.
Heard they are quicker, but I'll have to be the judge of that :sly:
Just had a thought...... we need a thread for ONLY part #'s for GA parts.
Both GM/AC Delco , have to look into this!

spreading the AF love....
over at answers.yahoo.com in the automotive section, been givin some AF GrandAM tips and answers...
One question is "How do you bypass the speed Governor on a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT?"
Left a lengthy review on that lol..
as well for.. "60,000 miles on a 2002 Grand Am-Is this a good car?"
I left a pretty detailed summery of a GA and such... I was chosen with the best answer with 5 stars! horay!
Id post links but they're huge... you can goto http://answers.yahoo.com and paste in the 'search' box (not the ask box to post) the questions I have in quotes and they should come up...
Each time In my sources I left AF.com references woo
Side note, My GA hit the 165,000 mark... took a pic of it with my cell phone, im surprised its lasted this long with regular oil and such before I got my dirty hands on it and started beating it all up

After getting the cutout, the end it to thin to drill into and put in LEDS. So back to the drawing board.

about time! jeez it took forever to load AF!
I can't Believe pontiac did that to a T/a. Did they ever produce that or not... i forget. My father was telling me last night about Ford and what they are thinking of doing to the mustang, which is make it into a four door model and a wagon:loser:. LMAO . It's like the saying, If it isnt broken don't fix it! well apparently they haven't heard that one. If they go through with that idea, they are gonna be shooting themselves in the foot!
Hey Xi, what if you attach the CD to a piece of wood or plexiglas to make it a little thicker. Could that work? I never took mine out so i'm not sure what the guts were like inside of it.
well I won't be around too much today or through the weekend. Going into NYC this afternoon for a concert, and x-mas shopping this weekend!
Later,
Enjoy the day/ weekend

Gir,
Wont take long to scarf those pop tarts...
Then what will you do
grfnkl,
Sometimes AF loads slow for me and other days its fast :screwy: Think it has to do with how many are online, choking out the server or something :dunno:
You'll have to speak to Management on that one
On the TA, I dont think that was a GM project.
Someone has spent some hours on it though.
Wagons
The problem isnt with the CD thickness, it was the width of the strip not being wide enough to drill the 4-5mm hole to insert the Leds. Plus thiers not enough room for anything thicker.
Going to be a trick getting all the wires in for 10-15 Leds :disappoin

The Leds are standard auto ones.
They are 4mm wide,
with the plastic part that holds them in place it comes to 5mm.
Then I have to be very carefull not to break the wires of the Leds,
because thiers a resister soldered to them covered in heatshrink tube.
For some reason they break off at the base of the Led . :screwy:

Wow it's dead around here.... I guess everyone's out Shopping, and too busy to worry about anything wrong with thier cars. :shakehead LOL!
Gir: Poptarts are great breakfasts! You would probably love living up here in Jersey. We have 24 hour diners! Wohoo! Nothing like a 3am run to the diner for a mozzarella sticks or pankcakes, or both if you really hungry! LOL Most have a to go menu as well so you can eat on the run! My true favorite for the morning is Taylor ham and cheese! YUM! But since i basically roll out of bed late for work, i just go to work and eat there, either out of the gift shop in the lobby (pop tart run) or from our restaurant ( made to order eggs, pancakes etc.)
Xi: thanks for the G/A History from wikipedia. I've seen that one before.... but it's cool to see the lineage for the car.

Hi, everybody my dad just purchased a 00 grand am for my brother, more like a loan. And i got to say these 4 cylinder engine in the grand am is nice, strong for a 4 cyclinder. And these cars have a lot of room and a trunk for 3 bodies, lol.
I drove the car today to get a smog check done and it passed with flying colors. I was a bit worried only because the owner said he didn't smog it and because of that we got another 100 bucks lowered from the price.
I did find a few things about the car that worry me that has to do with the suspension but i'll post about that later. But overall the car really runs nice and i'll be around here either reading or asking questions, seems like a good knowledgeable fourm. I was searching for a good while before i found this fourm and im glad to have found this fourm.

My dad just bought the car for my brother. Im just helping him with the smog and paper work and joined this site to learn more about the GA.
As for the suspension its stock, but i didn't notice that when i hit the brake some times the front shakes up and down and im thinking its the front struts? Though when i pushed down on the fender they did have a bounce to them but not overly. Im thinking its the struts that is causeing the shakes/bumping front end when i hit the brakes. I noticed this happens if i get aggresive on the brakes. Today i took off all 4 wheels just to check the suspention and everything looks good. So i thinking its the front struts. Other then that, car runs good. How are those 6 cyclinder Pontiacs?

It reminds me of those ricer kids, that think with thier 95 honda civic, after some stickers a cambells soup can exhaust, and a shopping cart wing that they are pushing 270 horses :screwy: off of the stock motor which has 140 horses. Come on people!

I found this and thought it was pretty funny.....
Twas the night before Christmas and caught at the light,
Was a domestic V8 and no cops in sight,
I will try, I will try, I will try with this small motor,
To beat this damn Camaro, even with it's big power,
As the light goes green and I pull like no joke,
The Camaro erupts in clouds of tire smoke,
Now Smasher, now Rev-ver, now Stroker, now Blitzin,
These are the names of my four VTEC pistons,
Racing ahead I'm the Star of the Action,
But I know I'm in trouble when that V8 gets traction,
Grabbing second, I hear the RPM sing,
My mirror is blocked by my Shopping Kart Wing,
I now hear the roar, of that big monster gaining,
All I can do is keep that four-banger straining,
In a second, the shockwave hits with a blast,
And my stickers go flying now, a thing of the past,
Don't bother with third, cause now it's too late,
Just try to act cool, like you can relate,
Looking up at the taillights as they get smaller,
The driver backs off just to give me a holler,
"You can't win them all," he says in fling,
"You may not win any, in that silly thing",
I scowled and revved and let out a sigh,
And did my trademark high-speed fly-by.

Ya welcome aboard 00grand-am.
I know you are new, But in the future please consolidate your posts into one. Just keeps things cleaner and It is outlined in the Community Participation Guidelines (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/guidelines.html) not to.
but we'll let you slide this time ;)
On the trunk and subs, shesh you could get 4-5 12's in there, and some amps :grinyes:
On the 250HP() even though he "says" its dyno'd I dont beleive its possible with the mods he had at the time, IMHO(in my humble opinion) you need to tune it way up for that and the stock injectors would not last long at that rate.
I read on another forum where some guy got a tune at a shop(no mods) and got 50HP for $300 :nono:
On another post, a guy just built a turbo kit without any other mods, would not run any higher then 2500 rpm's.
He just put a turbo onto an exhaust manifold and thought it would work :banghead:
NOT !
With boost you need a DHP or something simular,
bigger injectors and someone who is a really good tuner :D
Plus a few other odds and ends.
Ya grfnkl, some people
Nice Xmas poem too !

this suit is blacknot -borat :grinno:
putting things into perspective, my uh engine rebuild plans arent gonna be happening soon untill maybe next fall lol if i have the GA still that is... im still pushing for headers and cat to finish the exhaust and hopefully I can do the TB... from there I think I might go with costmetics :dunno:
I found some metal APC z3 fenders that dont look to shabbeh.. they're not the fins but eh some other sort of z3 .. it wouldnt look to bad with my GT front thats collecting dust in my garage..... thought angel eye fog lights, Car painted black or white, windows FIXED! grr and maybe tinted and uh my gauge pod finished with that aerotech w/e neato gauge Ive been wanting forever...
more money... gah
would it be worth repainting the whole GA? im sure it'd be possible to do ONLY the visable outside/inside doors... I could care less what the engine compartment looks like ... just want new outside.. you can def see sun fade in the paint as where its cracking off on the rear bumper
none of my windows work lol, they each have their own story.. which reminds me if I have time saturday to fix my front passenger... do the fix Ive done on the ones in the rear.. make it only go up! muhaha then disconnect the power to the switch so I never have to worry about it going down... ever
I think the angel eyes would be nice... along with clear lights from ebay w/ new lights... the bright whites or one w/ blue tint :naughty:
all this and Im not even talkin about Rims! :spit: .. I kinda like the uh stock black steel metal w/ circles ... easy lug nut access in case some1 else needs to use my tires woot

Twas the night before Christmas and caught at the light,

I will try, I will try, I will try with this small motor,
To beat this damn Camaro, even with it's big power,
As the light goes green and I pull like no joke,

These are the names of my four VTEC pistons,

I actually own a Camaro z28. And usally if rice is next to me at a light, they'll wait till i press the gas pedal and then they go but they stay back. I think the exhuast intimidates them, lol.

I sold my Strut Braces on Ebay... Very pleased with that sale! Now I can put the money towards either the g6 or my 88g/a. Plus it's one less thing sitting on my airhockey table at home. So now Maybe just maybe i can focus on our Christmas train display that will yet again cover the airhockey table for a few months. LMAO
00grand-am: thats great with the z28!A buddy of mine had a Z28, any rice that went near him would have been cooked.. Nothing like the car sounding like a stock car while inside! lol! it was great! One good thing about the G6 though rice doesn't come near me either at this point and when they do they are too busy staring at my 18in rims :eek7: and trying to figure out what i'm driving. Then i open it up just a little and they are trying like hell to keep up. Oh the joys i have! :grinyes:
Gir: don't feel bad I've gone and are going through the same thing with mods. Having big plans and not able to make them happen. the best thing i could have ever done was set off an account with money that I would put money in when i was able to for mods and car expenses. Plus you make some interest even if it's only pennies it's still something! When you are ready just shop around until you find the best deal.
Well I'm off too looking busy for a little while, before i make this a long holiday weekend! If i don't make it back in here before then. I wish all of you a
Happy Chrismahanukwanzika. ( this way i cover all the holidays) LMAO

I forgot thier was a week in between the hoolidays
Ya grfnkl, those would be ok.
But already have like 12 or 18 blu LEDS.
So by time I'm done with this I'll probley loose half from the resister wires breaking, cheap ! very cheap! :angryfire
I do like thier rig with the bulb for the overhead.
I was going to do something like that with a burnt bulb.
Instead I just drilled a tiny hole in each contact,
then soldered wires to the fixture , it works !
Just trying to be different...
........... I guesss I could just lay out star constalations on my headliner :D
