BLU - Might be worth it to buy it anyway, then wait around and see if you can get the H2B tranny adapter and parts cheaper from a show or something... usually always someone that has done it, considers it old news, and wants to move on to the next thing, but needs money to do it.

my odd run in with the cops today....

behind my house is a big gravel parking lot that belongs to a church a block away. they got a new parking lot so this lot goes unused. it's on the corner of a busy residential 4 way stop, diagonal across is a high school. obviously this is the best place ever to park our orange car for sale.

okay with all that said here is the story. i was out driving the orange car, talked to jer on the cell, parked the car behind the house, walked around the block to my house, went inside checked on the new hamster, reached into my pocket to call a friend, and NO PHONE. :wtf: i tell myself "don't freak out" i just used it in the car. treo + small girly pockets = falls out easy. i walk back around, look into the gutted car, and see easily no phone. quickly walk back to the house, tear apart vic's room where the hamster is, and still no phone. now i start to freak. at this point i'm pretty sure it fell out of my pocket outside the car when i got out and somebody walking by picked it up.

it's not about the phone it's self, it's the thought of losing or leaving open access to certain numbers within my phone. i never set any locks within the phone.

as i'm freaking out i decide to power walk over to my kid's elem. school (approx. 5 blocks) where i know there will be other moms' with cell's to try and call my phone. i call, no answer. i see another mom drive by that i'm really good friends with and happens to live really close. i call her & tell her to meet me at the orange car. i RUN back. she's there. i open up the car, she calls my phone and it flipping rings!!! it fell into the door pocket. the only interior panels not gutted. we're standing at the car talking when it gets interesting...

a motorcycle cop rolls by and almost stops. put on his lights, at this point I say to her "watch i'm going to get pulled over even though i'm parked"...i'm watching the cop turn around when another cop car comes flying out of nowhere. he says "what's the problem?" of course i say "problem?" he says "what's going on?" i say "i'm standing at my car which is parked behind my house" as i point to the open car and then the house. he says "we got a call a woman was running hystarical up the street"

ROTFL. in the (literally) few minutes it took me to power walk 0.05mi and then run back somebody had called 911 and the police had already responded.

the cops didn't find it funny. especially when i told him i thought he was trying to pull me over while i was parked :icon16:

after they left the mom says to me "dang, you must get pulled over a lot i didn't even see the cop until you pointed him out"

if she only knew :spit:

Yeah, they never find it funny when you make them seem like they're idiots.

I learned over time and several fines in 15 or so different cars in 8 or so different states... if they don't think you're funny the first time you open your mouth, there's a good chance that they're not going to find you funny at all, and the more you talk, the more you're gonna get screwed in the long run.

I've learned: to STFU.

So, I know this is the wrong forum, but I have a chance to get two diff cars again.. one is a KA24 swapped 240, needs some work, $800... the other is a 1990 CRX ZC swapped, needs engine, header, exhaust (full), has lowering springs or coil/sleeves on it, he wants $500, but it needs to be trailered to my dad's house from MD... a good 7-8 hours.

There is also a clean CRX shell w/ most of the interior intact for $500, but I live in a managed community... I can't have another car here that's not registered and inspected... so anything I get has to either go to my dad's house, or replace my Civic so that I can use it for a DD and send my Civic to my dad's house.

I'm faced with a dilemma.

Christ
09-04-2008, 07:55 PM
OH... the 240 is pretty much gutted, comes with nasty Enkei 17's, and "boxes of parts, aftermarket and OEM, plus the original motor" according to the seller. I'm sure I can get it for a lil less than $800, if I work on him, and carry cash.

But, I really want that CRX... unfortunately, I think the CRX project might have to wait, since I really need something to replace my Civic so I can take it off the road.

That 240 that I'm looking at has ALOT of goods...and quite a few bads too... but it seems that maybe I could give this kid a cash offer of $500, he might take it, and it comes with a complete turbo kit, minus intercooler.

Best of all, it's driveable, so I won't have to tow it up to my wife's father's house, I'll just be able to drive it up there, thank god. Not sure what kind of mileage it will get, but it shouldn't be too bad, even though it will be running on base maps, since half of the engine's sensors aren't there or wired in as yet... it's DEFINITELY a project, but that's what I was looking for anyway.... so we'll see what's up.

I got beat by a 3.2 tl driven by an old lady tonight :(

Her response "you didnt think you could beat me in that thing did you!?"

In my defense she got a half car jump and I spun till she was 1 car out...but she put 2 1/2 cars on me till I stopped her getting away in 3rd.. But I wasn't about to do 90 on a public road, empty or not.

DAMMIT I need my clutch so I can put my hydro tranny in. Its soooo much shorter.
Also I guess I underestimated those damn c32's..
On a lighter note I ate one of my friends miatas alive :P

amy@af
09-06-2008, 10:14 AM
which year tl? if it's older it's a c35 and if it's newer it's j series.

not talking smack but I know my 93 legend has the c32 and it has 230hp....you were making a tall order playing with a tl.

even though our legend is a heavy car it gets the job done. it hangs pretty well with the c5 civic...the downfall there is redline. the c5 you shift at a million rpm vs. the "luxery" car with 6sp and it's crusing speed gearing. just as I hang with the civic, I have to shift and he starts to walk away.

I aslo have to add...next time be sure to get them off the line and you'll get an advantage. I know the legend can not launch. I have to assume it's the dual mass flywheel.

FrodoGT
09-06-2008, 10:38 AM
Yeah I wasn't paying attention, I was still in shock that some old lady made a ricer flyby and honked her horn at me.. The first time I had no idea what was going on, she was on the other side of a massive escalade at the light and all I heard was a short squeal..so I followed suit. And at the next light my jaw dropped.

She goes I hope you didnt think..yada yada. Im like "well maybe if I had known" And she goes "well im going this time!" as the light turns green and im not even in launch control.

Also I believe it was a J32. Not sure on whether it was a type s or not, but god I hope it was.. that would make much more sense in my head to know I got raped by 260hp/232ftlb.

At least your POS chevy hasn't been in the shop for more than half the time you've owned it lol

My housemate has a '97 S10 w/ a 4/6 static drop... and it's been in the shop for everything from wiring to ECU (the only ECU that works in it comes from a '97 5-spd... no other is the same.) To exhaust work, so on and so forth...

The thing is a dog, stock 4.3 w/ intake that I made from spare parts, flowmaster muffler on stock exhaust with dual exit pipe... cheap fg tonneau that doesn't have the struts on it b/c they broke out... Alpina mirrors, blue rear interior, sub boxes in place of the rear seat and tool compartment...

The truck is so low that it won't clear the speed bump at the end of our driveway, he has to go up the hill and around the one-way road to get out of the park... (we live in a trailer park).

He's actually already put more into it than it's worth, and he's not done... he paid $8k for it, and has put about $5k more into it.. and it's still a POS.

i looked it up online...lazy post office workers aren't in on sunday :icon16:

here's the deal, i obviously use frosting to decorate. they would have to be kept cool if not cold in transport. it would have to ship overnight with somebody (i don't care where/who) on your end that is around to get them when they get there...they won't be very pretty if they sit outside the door in the sun waiting for you to get home. ya dig?

if you seriously wanted some honda cookies and you didn't mind paying shipping...i could probably make & ship them.

i would have to know ahead of time so i can make some practice cookies to test out 2-3 different methods of packing it cold to see how cold it stays for 24hr to see for myself which works best.

Iono Lady... find out what shipping is to 17315 for like a batch of them or whatever, and lemme know, I might get some from you.. I can guarantee that someone will be here to get them when they get here.

As far as upgrades vs. maintenance, my car considers an upgrade maintenance lol.

Whenever something needs fixed/replaced, I usually opt for better parts than OEM, except in the case of seals and stuff, then I go OEM or parts store, or make my own.

Most of the time, I take out the things that aren't really necessary, to save weight, and time... (less I have to put back in, or take back out next time)

As far as spending money, most of my mods have been either second hand, or free parts, like when I go to shows, the vendors often let me "test" parts b/c *and I quote* "I seem to know what's going on". (That's what they usually say before giving me stuff)

As far as basic mods to my Civic that are planned so far:
2" static drop/stiffening suspension
homegrown stage 3 weight reduction.
full CRX interior
90-91 tails, black trim panel, hidden reverse lights.
ZC motor, unless I get a REALLY cheap B-swap
HF trans, again unless I get the B swap.
Full energy suspension bushing kit, including those that aren't included in the kit.
Steering joint mod for shifter linkage U-joint. (to tighten up the shifter)
Systematically replacing hardware with either plastic or aluminum, depending on what's needed for the application.
Finishing A/C removal and replacing the heating system w/ a ceramic core rather than coolant recirc.

That pretty much covers it.

BTW, if anyone wants OBD-0 with one-wire Vtec, I've got the PS9 ECU that you need.. once you chip it, you can use the auto trans lockup solenoid pin to activate the Vtec system. (I believe it's A8)

I gave up on the 240... kid is a douche.

I'm now looking at a '94 SHO... comes with a rebuild kit for the tranny, otherwise bone stock... tranny only has low and reverse (auto).

It's $500, and I'm going to have to borrow the Bronc to move it up to my wife's fathers' house, as I would with any other car I buy... that will cost me about $120 in fuel (for this car/trip), And like $30 to rent the Dolly from Uhaul, IIRC.

Also, about $50 to do the title xfer.

Total cost will be about $700, which is somewhat within my bounds, as long as I get another Job soon... I just got laid off again, so I have to go talk to my BA at the union hall to get another job... it's coming to winter, work is getting short in my trade.

2 days in the desert isn't conducive to a death, for someone who actually knew what they were doing out there...

Even after having made the phone call, he could have kept going, without food or water, for at least 3 days, up to 5... with water, but no food, for up to 9 days.

They key would be to stay away from the sun, traveling mostly from dusk til dawn, and keeping in close contact with vegetation... there's always water nearby.

I don't mean to sound brash, but obviously, if he wasn't aware that he should have stayed out of the sun as often as possible, he wasn't so much of a bad ass as we'd all think.

Also not saying that I have any experience with being alone in the desert... but I do have experience with woodland survival, and survival training in general... and it's all pretty much the same... the primary objective is, obviously, to stay alive.

I vote apexi ws2. Its almost quieter than stock but has a nice sound. The WS2 is how I think all civics should have sounded from the factory, quiet until you want it loud, but not overbearing and it doesn't ever blare raspy goodness from a mile away.

The N1 however sounds like ass.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8510916308778924710&ei=dprISOKaO5mSrAL84Y2hBg&q=apexi+ws2+91+civic&vt=lf

Must be GREAT on the highway. I wanna run one but im waiting to see what a turbo does to my exhaust note. Which I love right now btw, full tanabe hyper medallion racing (discontinued I believe) But its a little loud on the highway and when I tear into it, so id just like it be quiter. Its unnoticeable cruising in town or idling though.

Christ
09-10-2008, 11:26 PM
I use... lmao... a full 2" custom catback with crushbends... and a 21" 2.25/2.25 glass pack (straight flow, stock location) leading into a 2.25 tailpipe.... it's loud enough to know it's an exhaust, but you can't hear it over my intake... which came from eBay.

It sounds better than most other Honda's running around, and I paid less than $150 for the whole thing...

It doesn't drone at all, and it's pretty quiet under normal throttle angles, when you get on it, you can really hear it sound off, but it's smooth, not harsh, and once I hit 3250, the intake takes over for the most part at WOT anyway... so you lose the exhaust all together.

Tony
09-11-2008, 07:14 AM
I have a custom 2.25 crush bent(no big creases like OE pipe) with hollowed cat, and a Turbo muffler. It has a nice sound to it, I'm thinking about tossing a glasspack on it to quieten down a little more, but right now its not really that loud either, much better than most other imports, and a lot cheaper than the big named mufflers. Plus it still looks like a stock muffler, no big shiny can behind the bumper grabbing attention.

I'm eventually going to go back to some kind of OEM appearing muffler, as I don't like the huge shiny-ness grabbing the attention of others either... I'd rather have something w/ a nice mellow tone, and that's not a drone going up the highway... which is why I wanna get rid of my damn intake.. lmao.

I'm trying to find a stock intake from another Civic, so I can get rid of the aluminum pipe that I have... I'd prefer to keep my car looking as stock as possible.

Will the 90-93 Teg stock intake fit? What about the 86-89 Teg? The latter especially after I put in the ZC.

Actually, I had almost completed a project similar to that... using a 900CC Kawasaki V-twin, and a Ford lawn/garden tractor... I had it almost finished, with only the front hubs to bolt back on, the wheels to put on all around, and the cut down Yamaha Raptor axle to put back on, plus the misc stuff involved... and making the jackshaft to transfer power from one side of the motor to the other for the chain drive... running car tires, and a 6 speed sequential gearbox..

Then, some asshole came up and stole about 10k worth of my tools, equipment, and most of the tractor I was building... I later found out they scrapped the engine and shit, left me w/ the tractor frame, wheels and tires.

well we got a trade offer for the orange civic today.

for those that don't know the orange civic is on the downtoground.net site listed as Dano's civic...i traded a 1993 accord i bought for $1750 for it back in april 07. he stuck turbo on it and it never ran right again which is why he wanted to trade.

we whipped it into shape and asked $5500...it was for sale forever. so we yanked the engine & turbo and sold both. dropped a b16 in and now we're asking $3500. which to me is a hella good deal considering it's obd-1, color matched under the engine bay & interior, rear disc brakes, gutted with custom aluminum panels, 5g seats, walboro fuel pump, full body kit, tail lights, projectors, rims.....and so on.

still no buyers. :banghead:

today a guy called and asked if we would trade for a 1997 Tahoe, 200,000mi, leather interior, looks raised (no exactly sure if it is), escalade chrome wheels, 4x4. it has a ding in the hood, ding by the tail light, and cracked windshield. over all i would say "good" condition. even with the high miles kbb says...
excellent: $5,115
good: $4610
fair: $3995
retail: $6625

from selling cars i know a bank will loan up to 80% of retail which means the most i will be able to ask is: $5300.

we'll take it to our friend's bodyshop on tues to have him asses the dings and windshield. he always hooks us up with cost and trading out labor as he always has something for jer to wire. LoL.

here's my thoughts:

1. as soon as it starts snowing i'm S.O.L. on selling orange civic until at least april compared to a 4x4 which will suddenly be in demand.

2. i'm finding the only people who have inquired about the civic are teens without 2 pennies to rub together compared to a tahoe which could be sold to anybody.

3. i checked autotrader for 1997, within 500mi, $6000 or less and found 48 for sell...only 4 under $4999. which is more than the $3500 i'm asking for the civic

on the flip side:

4. gas prices suck. tahoe 15-20mpg where the civic is 26-32mpg

anybody have any thoughts??? i've never owned a SUV let alone a Chevy :dunno:
