heh, guy @ Kaotic did that... B18C5 in a CRX.. then he decided it was OK to rev a bone stock B18C5 to 11k +.... yeah.. that didn't last long.
He literally made it just past my house, which (at the time) was about 1.5 miles from his shop... and put a rod through the block, locking the engine, breaking the transmission, locking up the front end, and causing him to slide first, into a tree right in front of my house, the one that sits in the middle of the U shaped driveway we had, then off the bridge immediately after that, and right nose first into the water, about a 6 foot drop... yeah.. he doesn't work on cars all that much anymore.
heh... on the plus side, he had it up to 130ish when he hit the tree... so maybe it wasn't stock... but either way, stock bottom end, or at least stock crank/rods...
(We have alot of idiots back home... they think that Honda's are just built bulletproof, and you'll never actually have to do anything w/ it to keep it running... anyway, that shop isn't getting much business since their latest round of bullshit, they built a Turbo'd DelSol, and the kid paid them over 15k to build the car, and found out that he ended up w/ a G'Reddy Turbo kit, a rebuilt (stock) Z6, stock ECU w/ a socket and "performance chip", and a paint job with overspray all over the car, never wet sanded, body kit wasn't fitted properly, one of the rims was cracked, tires weren't even up to 35 PSI when he came to pick up the car, and now the exhaust welds are cracking all over the place... I think he's taking them to court over it.)

If I had a B18C5 crx I'd be happy. It would have to look absolutely stock except for maybe a 1" drop on Tein or some other respectable full coil-overs, a cf hood and front lip. I'd take a B18C5 anything really... haha.
Why is it so difficult to find a nice looking Honda these days? I'm considering either a stock 99-00 si, 96-01 gsr or itr. I've got some time to think on it though because I have to pay the Jeep off first and some other bills. But if I can't find what I'm looking for I may just pick up a wrx.

A) it is very wrong that you sit around thinking about GTA during the day to begin with :uhoh:
B) it is very safe to say in all the times I've hung out with GTA over the years, he's never taken off his shirt and busted a move down the street with a crowd following along.
turtle, unless you need the backseat....hands down get a del sol, swap in a c5, and mild lowering will make night & day difference in handling. it is a tad heavy for the "compact" car it's supposed to be however, it is a nimble car when lowered. the b18c5 will bolt right in. call it a day. don't even throw on rims.
if you need the backseat then go with the GSR. the ITR is not as easy to get ins for and more likely to be stolen.

Blu, there is a sweet white rhd nissan gti-r or whatever those hatches are called listed on ebay right now (go to nissan/other vehicles) located in SC. Unless you want usdm, then never mind.
Lady, I've thought about the Del Sol vtec. I know it's a little heavier because of the targa roof and electronic rear window etc. The wife, however, does not like it. I'd like a 6th gen si as a beater but it seems like so many have already been beat. The GSR is a sweet car. I've had my sights on the one I've really wanted before... white, 4-dr, no wing, completely stock... but that is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I've seen them on autotrader but it just wasn't the right time, right color or whatever...

I'd like to find a bone stock, well taken care of Honda Civic LX sedan... o wait.. I had one, then I sold it.. now I have it back.
I don't want a white car... too much attention... believe it or not, according to Fed Highway dept, BLUE is the least pulled over color:D I'm going blue over black.
After the street racing suspension, and what not, I don't need to be noticed.. hence the reason I'm keeping the car looking stock, nothing too extravagant for a motor, etc.

Hey guys... If I wanna lower my car with the stock springs, how much should I cut to get 1" lower??
1.5"??
I'm asking cause I'm worried if I cut 1" it'll lower it 2" instead.
Just being safe!

Cutting springs isn't really the recommended way to do this.. but basically, you mark them 1" lower while it's got pressure from the car on it, then when you "uncompress" them, cut at your mark, and make sure you grind a nice bevel back into it.
If you would rather not cut the springs, (and personally, not that I know you, but I'D prefer you not cut them, for safety's sake) there is a much better way to do it that reduces the effects on handling.. what you do, get yourself a couple pieces of 1/8" thick steel, cut some 1" by 2" strips.. you'll need AT LEAST 4 per spring, preferably 8.. drill a 1/2" dia. hole in the middle of them, and make tabs on either end, about 1/2" tab @ 90* in the bend.
after you've made those, chain the front end of your car down or compress the coil or have a few friends sit on the hood and/or trunk lid, and apply those to two coils that are close together, all the way around the coil... do that on all four springs, and it's basically a lowered car w/ stock spring rate.

you can springs on ebay for like $50... youll prolly end up spending more time to cut a spring that wasnt designed to be cut (which will throw the geometry of the suspension WAY off) I would just get cheapo springs and call it a day

I agree. It would be much safer. From what I've seen in pics his car's tires look under inflated and there isn't much for safety anyway on those 4g4ds. Lets just be glad he doesn't have a swapped engine running around on cut springs etc... :shakehead

I think it looks perfect. There is this thing called suspension travel. Anyway, it's probably a shadow and/or tire wear. If you want to see wheel gap look at my Jeep.... haha.

Actually, the Jeep isn't that bad. But I don't need a jack to change the oil. :grinyes:
I disagree with the statement about no wheel gap for street driven car. Maybe you mean a track driven car. I know it depends on the design, parts and the vehicle as well as other factors. But there is no way in hell you can drive around where I live and expect not to have some travel in your suspension.
A guy I work with here has a last gen Prelude vtec with Tein Full Coil-overs with Volk Racing 17s and he still has a little space showing between the fender and the wheel itself. His car rides extremely stiff. The entrance way to our office is pretty steep and sharp and he glides up it like nothing. But after spending probably at least 2k or more on suspension parts why risk it?

Cool. I'm still torn on the type of vehicle I want though. I love the idea of getting an Acura/Honda because I want the good gas mileage. I don't commute long distances anymore so all the miles would be city or fun driving. My Jeep thrashes any terrain you put in front of it and I like the torque but at 16.5-17.5 mpg city driving... ugh. The wife's vw gets better mpg but it's got almost 200k miles and things are starting to wear on it. She babied it forever and now she wants to keep it. It's a nice idea being that its paid for and she has known the vw mechanic forever. If I buy a GSR and something fucks up because I don't know how it was treated before I bought it, I'd feel pretty shitty. There is a pretty decent shop that works on Hondas here though. They treated me right when I had my clutch and tranny done... even kept my car locked inside because it had a bunch of mods.
Greenblurr93
10-26-2007, 11:21 AM
but on the other hand, hondas are easy to work on and you can beat them a bit and as long as you kept up on the maintainence. I know VW's are pretty expensive cars to get parts for... why not give the wifey the Jeep and you take the honda... that way you still have a 4x4 when u need it and you sav on gas? or does she have a long commute?

Yeah, she wants the Jeep. She doesn't keep a good eye out for potholes so it's probably a good thing. That's the reason she still sports the stock steelies too... haha Also, IMO, modding a B5 Passat isn't worth the money...
Her commute is on the way to my commute. We work for the same firm but she works downtown and I continue on a bit further.
If I get a Honda/Acura it's going to be the quietest one around... haha. I know they can be heavily modified and still quiet. I used to street race this guy where I used to live. He had an EK hatch with who knows what under the hood. The thing was clean and quiet and would haul ass. And now that I can hear again, I'd like to keep it that way...haha

When they sound like shit I know their cars are running like shit. Some exhausts sound good but it still drowns out everything else.
I vaguely remember my crx when it had the intake and quiet turbo muffler. After the fire and engine swap I had nothing but free flowing exhaust set ups that were always louder than the intake even after adding the resonator. The weird thing is I didn't like the sideways mounted muffler... still don't. That's one of my hang ups on the new wrx hatch... that and the fugly tail lights...

Norman Rockwell's version, also well known...

I'm going to a b-day/halloween party Saturday too. The wife and I are going as Mulder and Scully. I got some badges from the Internet that I'm going to print to photo paper and cut out and paper clip to our sport jackets. People tell me, girls usually, that I sorta look like David Duchovny. I don't really see it though...

I need a nice black jacket anyway... can't exactly wear a corduroy jacket or blue suit being a Hoover boy...
I got rid of the trench coats because they didn't fit and that whole trench coat mafia thing... I believe they were a pre-emo cult. :lol2:

I prefer being lonely in the car. Its better than having to clean up the mess, fingerprints, and smudges left by passengers
