my brother decided to move back down to cali a couple of months ago. my dad calls last night and says my bro got into his 93 toyota truck yesterday to go to work and long story short discovers bolts on the ground under his truck from his cat which was stolen.

maybe 9 mos ago my dad had told me it was an outbreak happening in parking lots of shopping centers. when they called his mechanic he said anytime he left a car outside his shop the cat would come up missing. so he's going to weld my brother's new cat in.

the cats are being stolen for the "precious metals" they contain.

just a crazy Los Angeles tale to tell :screwy:

Yea, I think the average amount most people get from cats is around $80 for each one, some are quite a bit more than that. I know some salvage yards make a lot of their money from just selling them.

FrodoGT

Yeah its not justi n cali. Although not many of them get stolen here. There are TONS of people trying to take them off your hands or buy them cheap. And dont think welding it will help too much, theyll prolly cut it out in the night.

my dad lives in a really spendy area, i'm kinda suprised it happened in his nice, quiet, safe...or at least it used to be safe neighborhood.

you're right tho...welded in will detour some people but not all. it's too easy to just slide under and go to work.

what he needs to do is lower the S.O.B. :naughty:

Same thing's happening lately in a nice neighborhood semi-near me. Lots of people going into new homes that are being built, or old homes being rebuilt, and stealing all the copper piping too. Sh*t is getting crazy.

I replace my negative battery wire the other day. The old connector wouldn't tighten down anymore, so it kept slipping off the battery terminal (aka my car wouldn't start some times). So I bought a new one from Pep Boys and had a go at it. I didn't really notice any difference in starting (I was a little bummed), but acceleration on the other hand. It was strange. When I'd shift gears or accelerate from a stand still, my car use to shudder a little. It no longer does that. Other than the connector coming off the terminal occasionally, the cable seemed in pretty decent shape, I certainly never thought this would happen. I'll still have to test out how things go when I push the rear defroster button, it always makes my car shudder a lot. I may just buy some cable and those eye-hole things, and do my own earthing kit, and see if it improves anymore. Just thought I'd randomly share. Still haven't bothered to recharge my A/C yet though (I'm lazy and have been surprisingly busy lately).

dude, don't bother doing your own kit.. you can buy them off ebay for mere dollars... literally about $15 shipped

And they usually come in colors, like blue and red. (opaque blue and opaque red.. you can see the wire through the casing.)

It turns out alot cheaper than making your own, and takes NO time.

eBay search "ground wire kit"

You have to think of electrical connections like your fuel system... if your engine isn't getting enough juice, it won't run right, and could eventually burn up because of it.. it's the same thing with electrical... current flows better when it's unrestricted, meaning you should keep your grounds clean, because the more contact area you have, the more current can flow without disturbance.. and you get fuel $aving$ and power as a benefit, kind of like your Civic saying "thank you for doing your driver-ly duty"

Wish they had some in simple black, but for the price I can live with blue. But I also hate ebay. I have an account from years ago, not sure if it's still active, but no credit card or paypal account. I guess I do know someone who has accounts (ebay and paypal), so maybe I'll ask him to get it for me. At Pep Boys, 2 of those eye-hole things alone are like $4-6, so it definitely would be cheaper going the ebay route. Thanks for the recommendation.

did everybody have a good 4th of July celebration?

I sure did. This was my first 4th I was not working, in the past seven years. We drove up to the bench here, and watched eight different cities do fireworks displays. It was pretty sweet.

Then we came home and did our own displays. :evillol:

I got laid off on the 3rd... so the 4th was a blast.

It's a good thing I'm union, otherwise, I'd be worried about finding another job... instead, I just talk to my BA, and he'll call around to find me a position with another union contractor.

well...perfectly good Nittos have been wasted...camber kit took too long to get here :(

looked on discounttire.com and the Nitto P195/50R-15 81V tires were $82ea., just what i need when i'm trying to save for my suspension...so i'm going to put the UCA camber kit in and buy some used tires for $20ea...probably have them rotated so the Nittos are in the front...

we ended up parking at a friend's house then walked a block to the park to watch fireworks in the sky then came home and set off our own until midnight.

it was fun.

we also went to the car show we go to ever year which 90civicrider won best of show 2006 so his car pic was on the trophy & shirts in 2007. first & probably the last import ever. they changed the rules so it is almost impossible for a muscle car to loose. of course we wore his shirt there :-)

second person that told me that...but that's gonna have to wait until i get some different tires on it...but since the wear is on the inside, i could probably ust rotate them as is and not have any problems for a while...any thoughts?

FrodoGT
07-06-2008, 01:31 PM
Yeah it mostly your toe. I got aligned with 3.7 deg of camber (looked broken) and I have very little camber wear 5k miles later on tires that will only last 12 at the most.

BLU CIVIC
07-06-2008, 01:55 PM

Side note (and post whore). I put my new (again) springs in yesterday! After basically paying for a new ground control kit, im finally happy. Junkyard kit put me on bumpstops. Fuzzy math and not measuring put me riding high like a 4x4. And now ive got a 2 finger gap, no bottoming, smooth ride and no obnoxious body roll. Just gotta get aligned tomorrow.

Found out that 215/55/ZR16's are too big for the back of an EF... even with the struts spaced 9.6mm from the body. (rear end lift 9.6mm)

They were scrubbing on the roll line of the inner area of the quarter panel's wheel opening, cutting the tread (think pinch point.)

I did some body work w/ a 3lb hand maul, which helped out except on big bumps and inefficiences in the road.

I found a good set of 205/50ZR16's, put them on the front, and put the 205/55ZR16's on the back, and now I'm riding smoothly, no rubbing, but aside from the fact that I like the way it looks, I'm scared that if I take the spacers out of the struts, they'll start hitting again, since the diff between 215/55 and 205/55 is only 10mm width and about 6mm profile.

So, I'm currently running on silver ProLine (cheap) 16x7's with 205/50 on the front, and 205/55 on the back.

With just 10mm of lift in the rear, the car now looks like a dragger... it helped to "level" the wheel arches, so they're even, rather than the rear being lower than the front. standing from the front makes the car seem slightly more agressive than it was w/ the 205/40ZR16's

Tony
07-07-2008, 03:24 AM
Yea Adrian, you can just take it down to an alignment shop and get your toe adjusted. Most of the time a camber kit isn't needed to fix your tire wear unless you are rolling on some MAJOR camber. The only reason people think its camber causing it, is because they drop the car, don't get it aligned and start wearing tires, they automatically get a camber kit and then get it aligned and the wear is gone.

Go get it aligned, then decide if you want the camber kit. If its only a little bit of camber, you don't have to have the kit. Don't get me wrong, the kit is still nice since you can adjust the camber the way you want, but its not necessary to fix tire wear.

BLU CIVIC
07-07-2008, 10:10 AM
well that's good to know...feel like i wasted $200 on a camber kit but i know i'm going to need it when i take it to the track

Greenblurr93
07-07-2008, 12:21 PM
yep, i have -2.5* camber all the way around and 0* toe and no crazy tire wear... just rotate your tires on time and youll be fine

FrodoGT
07-07-2008, 01:55 PM
Well, 2.5 will give you noticeable tire wear..after about 15k miles. But it wont make them go bald on the inside lol. If you plan on keeping your car where its at height wise then be glad you got the camber kits. Your probably running 3.5-4 deg of camber right now. I was, AND I am using DA front knuckles, which are taller and lean the wheel out slightly. Im going in for an alignment tomorrow and im looking to hit -1 to -2 up front (kits are maxxed and the only way to change it is to raise the car) and without the washer trick I had dead on -2 in the rear before. After raising a bit and putting washers in im looking for -.5 to -1. My rear fenders are rolled or id be rubbing.

Tony
07-07-2008, 02:54 PM
No Frodo, 2.5 won't give him bad tire wear. 2.5 without the toe adjusted for it will give him bad tire wear. Anytime you make a single adjustment to your alignment, you need to have the rest of it done also.

Most of the wear comes from the Toe not being adjusted to match the new camber.

BLU CIVIC
07-07-2008, 04:02 PM
well i'm goning to hold off the alignment...that's another bad thing about cut springs..when you lift the car up, sometimes the spring may rotate and one side may be higher than the other, like what just happened when i rotated my tires :shakehead

FrodoGT
07-07-2008, 04:16 PM
Well I was giving an example of my friends mazda3, hes running koni/progress springs with camber plates etc.. and 2.5 deg with like .1 -toe and after about 15k you can barely tell theres wear, except the shoulder has a different slope than the rest of the tire. on falken f512s

Christ
07-07-2008, 07:51 PM
The corners aren't different... 88-89 have two screws, 90-91 have two tabs in their place, and a screw that holds the corner lens into the headlight bracket.

If you don't have 90-91 headlight brackets, you can't use the 90-91 corners.

The model of vehicle makes no difference.. I've taken corners from all three for all three, except the wagon.. not sure on that one. Headlight brackets and lenses are the same way. 88 and 89 are the same, 90 and 91 are the same.

If you order the parts for the year that your car is, you'll be fine.

BLU CIVIC
07-07-2008, 08:00 PM
guess i should have been clear, i was refering to the bumper lights

Christ
07-07-2008, 08:27 PM
Those range the same way... 88-89 and 90-91... in one, there is only one screw holding it in, while the other holds the lens onto the backing, 90-91 uses both screws, and doesn't have two tabs on the side to hold the outside edge of the light against the bumper cover.

Once again, order the parts for the year you have.

Christ
07-07-2008, 08:28 PM
Oh, 90-91 are also longer than 88-89, by like 1/2 inch or so, I think.

This says "no" you can't change the lenses from 88-89 to 90-91 lights, as the holes won't line up correctly, and they won't seal.

JDM's (true JDM) are wraparound, and connect using 2 screws also, iirc.

BLU CIVIC
07-07-2008, 09:06 PM
so 90-91 Civic and CRX bumper lenses are the same just that assembly for the CRX uses a tab and one screw to hold it in place instead of the 2 screws on the Civic?

BLU- AFAIK, yes, but search it, and make sure it's right... to the best of my knowledge, 88 and 89 had the tab, 90-91 used both screws, no tab.. there MAY have been some exceptions, but none that I know of.

Ok, I don’t think my question was understood…in the picture the housing for the bumper lights uses a tab and a screw for the install which is different from my civic which uses 2 screws to install…my question is shouldn’t the lenses still be the same as my Civics’ even though the assembly is slightly different? I’m thinking yes, but I’ll find out when I get it…probably next week
