Thanks for the well wishes Bob, I hope you had a great Father's Day as well. I got a couple of funny t-shirts, and my wife (my boys step-mom), made a picture with finger paints by brushing my sons hands with it, and putting them on paper in their favorite colors (red and yellow), then put her's in the center in pink. She drew green stems on it so it looks like flowers, Pretty cool!!!!

That's hilarious...We scrapped AOL 12 years ago and that just makes me even happer. I wonder if the customer service reps lose money if inbound users cancel their account. Vise versa, receive comission if they have users sign up.

A former AOL CSR, Michael, writes about how the company axes employees who don't give cancelling customers the proper retaining:

Having worked at AOL's Jacksonville Call Center for 2 years, I can safely tell you I was fired for NOT doing exactly what that AOL Ass(ociate) was doing...
Someone once said "Please cancel my account." I took that at face value and cancelled the account... three weeks later I was fired!

I think they should fire the ones giving you a hassle as to why you want to close out that AOL account. I remember and it was a real hassle. But honestly who the hell uses AOL as a ISP nowadays.

What do you all think about the GM and Nissan possibly joining forces?

I heard of something like that. It was more of an alliance. But I don't believe it will happen. There was talk about the guy that heads Renault and Nissan possibly taking over GM due to his success of turning Nissan and Renault around. Brazilian born Carlos Ghosn. But he supposedly doesn't want the job.

richtazz

GM is still partners with Toyota (Prism), Suzuki (Metro and Tracker), Isuzu (Storm), and one of the Korean companies (Aveo) so what's another?

jessep28
07-05-2006, 12:59 PM
Wall Street Journal article states that Nissan is skeptical about such a move. Nissan and Renault's boards have approved talks to pursue an alliance but GM has yet to move.

Out of all the Japanese car companies out there, I respect Nissan the most.

I can understand Nissan and Renault's skepticism though. Who wants to take this bohemouth and fix it? Needless to say it will take real balls and a heavy dose of realism to force the culture change GM needs.

Had my first chance to embarass a Mustang GT (mid to late 90's) yesterday. Keep in mind my car is a bone stock 99 GT 4-dr. Sitting at a light, on my way home from a family outing with my wife, both kids and my dad in the car. The Mustang, driver only, no passengers, pulls up and revs his motor. I'm like what the hell, light changes, we're off, and I got him on the holeshot by 1/2 a car and stayed right there with him until I let off. If I wouldn't have had the family in the car, I would of beat him.

Joke and humor time again.

A West Texas cowboy was herding his cattle in a remote pasture when suddenly a brand-new Porsche Cayenne Turbo S advanced out of a dust cloud towards him. The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses and YSL tie, leans out the window and asks the cowboy, "If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, will you give me a calf?"

The cowboy looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, Why not?" The yuppie parks his SUV, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his AT&T cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite navigation system to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo. The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg, Germany .

Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses a MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response.

Comic Sans MSFinally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer and finally turns to the cowboy and says, "You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves."

"That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," says the cowboy. He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on amused as the young man stuffs it into the back of his SUV.

Then the cowboy says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?"

The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, why not?"

"You're a Congressman for the U.S. government" says the cowboy.

"Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?"

"No guessing required." answered the cowboy. "You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked. You tried to show me how much smarter than me you are; and you don't know a thing about cows.............Now give me back my damn dog!"

Hey Wylie, I'm still here with my head above water. Yeah, I heard that we made national and world news. Called the Storm of 2006. We haven't seen this much rain in years. Most of the bad damage was on the West side of town and by the Franklin mountains. The Rio Grande river is normally low but it almost hit flood stage. Surprisingly, many parts of town made it OK. Thanks for the concern.

Thanks Rich. I had sense enough to get a house in a safe area. Most of the people with bad flood damage lived on or near the mountains. Governor Perry is visiting today to assess the damage for Federal and State aid. Half the issues center around poor storm drainage that the government has been procrastinating on for years believing the 100 year storm would never hit. Boy! They were wrong.

BTW - When it rains here it pours big time.

Hey Bob, did that dam break in your area affect anyone you know? I hope all is still good your way.

Man Rich, I didn't know we are still national news.

The dam which was located right across the border in Juarez, Mexico appears to be OK now. If it busted over 1,000,000 gallons of water would have spilled into downtown El Paso. It came within 1 foot of overflow.

But in the meantime we are now drying out. Sunny the last two days and insignificant rain now. Two storm water containment areas did overflow causing flood damage to areas in central El Paso but it is localized. FEMA was in town yesterday.

I'm still high and dry.

I happen to hear this Dane Cook bit the other night when I was having my car repaired. I can totally relate to it! I hope I "bleeped" good enough for the boards.

it's that same vibe that you get with any auto mechanic you've ever dealt with. Even though you're listening and nodding, in your head you're like "this guy is f*ing' me big time." You just believe whatever they say; "Yeah we had to replace the roof on your car, it resented the rest of the car, so we replaced that. Also, there was a tiny unicorn in your exhaust and he was jumping and poking holes in your exhaust, and he was sh**ting in your filters as well. So we had to get that out of there." Wow, thank you very much. I did not know that there was a tiny mythological animal jumping around in there ... that's very dangerous. Sh**ting in filters, no way. Especially with a road trip coming up, that's very dangerous. That little son of a b. How much is that? Seven thousand? I was going to suggest, I'd like to pay seven thousand'ish, I'd love to pay for that.
