Ours has gone up about ten cents in the past week to 10 days. It's around $2.15 to $2.19/gal. It dropped to about $1.80 last Fall, then rose at small intervals over the next few months, settling at about $2.05 to $2.09/gal for a few weeks, and now went up again. I believe this time of year they blame it on the switchover to the summer blend from the winter blend.:shakehead:disappoin
Oh and Rich, stop sending that stuff our way  We're getting it today. I joked with my daughter who has Thursday off because all of the alloted days budgeted for "snow days" were not used. So they are giving the kids an early start to spring break. The note in the school newsletter said if a snow days needed to be taken before Thursday then they would have to go to school that day. I told her watch us get hit today and they need to close school

Certainly that is not how much premium is, is it? If so, that is substantially lower than our fuel right now. Here in Omaha it takes about $45 to fill my VR4 when it is near empty. I am starting to get sick of the mpg this thing gets around town. On the highway it is phenomenal but city driving is horrible. Oh well, speed isn't free. I shouldn't be complaining though as a guy I go attend college with daily drives his 520awhp Stealth around. I shutter to think what it gets in the city. Sad thing is, when he finally gets his fuel upgraded with a tune it will be more like 700awhp (will be 20+psi instead of 12 psi which is what he made 520awhp on TD05 EVO 16G's) in which we were talking about how bad of a DD that would make especially since he runs E85 and needs to fill his tank damn near every two days. I told him to just go out and buy a SL or any other naturally aspirated 3S for a DD.

All around me it is $2.15, I was down in Urbana IL yesterday, at ISU and I paid $1.89. Could not believe the price. So since I was on my way home and stopped and filled up I fill the tank up with less then $20. I use to remember when I could fill the tank up with for $12.50 and get $7.50 in the pocket for spending money. In my younger days which I wish we could go back to, gas was .39 cents a gallon. I use to ride my bike down to the Clark station at the end of the street to get gas for the lawn mower.

Don't feel bad Doc. I remember when it was 18 cents/gal. If it wasn't for the 1973 Arab oil embargo I would never have been able to afford a musclecar back then.

And I could fill up the gas tank on my Kawasaki 500 Mach III for 75 cents. :crying:

Our prices dropped again this morning to $1.99 for 87 octane, what is this "spin the gas price wheel" or what? The station owners must need to give their people something to do.

In my younger days which I wish we could go back to, gas was .39 cents a gallon.
I remember back in the early to mid '70s my father and I would drive past this rickety old gas station on our way to a place we used to go to and it had a very tall sign advertising the price of gas. The numbers had to be at least 5 to 6 foot tall. For the longest time the price remained at .52/gal, and one day while driving by I commented as to why the price hadn't changed and it was boring to drive by all the time and see the same price up there. How I wish I could go back to those days and those prices . ( BTW, I think my father told me to "shut up" when I made that comment :iceslolan . The price went up a short time later and I think it was due to one of the energy crisis that inflicted that era.) Remember the odd-even gas rationing? In my area they went by a certain digit in the car's license plate. People had to remember what digit they had and those that had 2 vehicles with one plate having an odd digit and the other one even were in luck.

To help pay for my gas expenses and other things like the bike and girlfriend I used to work at a Shell Gas station back in the early 70s. Putting up the signs and checking tank levels was all part of the job. I used to hate messing with the signs in a wind/dust storm. I remember the long lines and irate people. Also, we were full service back then. It was nice washing a windshield when some foxy chick pulled-in and checking out her legs, etc.

BTW - Since the gas prices rose dramatically back then and people were dumping their musclecars I was able to get a '70 Dodge Challenger R/T with 440 Magnum engine with 4 speed and all the beeps and bells for $900. That car was way ahead of its time back then. :grinyes:

When I was stationed in Germany back in the 70s and 80s we had gas rationing with coupons from AAFES good at any Esso (now Exxon) gas station in most parts of Western Europe. About 200 liters per month.

Beh, I am now hooked on reading your damn threads in this section. I'm almost starting to think a stock Grand Prix with a M90 would be a better bet than my SL for a DD. While I have had terrible luck with my SL I think a late 90's GTP would be absolutely sick for a DD as it could be something reliable but fun to drive on a daily basis. Is it possible to get a 5th Gen GTP for around $5,000 that is in decient shape? I have seen some online that look like they aren't too shabby for around that price but some seem to have high mileage. I was just kicking around the idea in case I came across one for a decient price. Plus, since they all have a ATX I wouldn't have to put up with feathering a clutch in traffic for a hour.

Happy Easter!...late. :(

As you can see in my signature I have a, "Stillen downpipe waiting on install." Well, I tried to install it yesterday...keyword tried. First off, it eliminates 2 of the 3 catalytic converters on my car. Therefore, I must gut the last one. Well, after about 2 1/2 hours and 2 $12 drill and a head full of platinum shreds later later I have it gutted. Well, the damn thing wouldn't fit right! All in all, I spent about 5 hours on the whole process. So, I must now get the downpipe drilled out so that it fits better. Being that a downpipe is a HUGE BPU modification on a VR4 (backpressure absolutely kills turbo cars and the stock exhaust is not at all restrictive except the downpipe which is about half of the exhaust lol). With that said, I hope you guys are having better luck than I am with my car. So, I am not driving around in my SL which has infinite turbo lag. :D However, I did get to go visit the family for Easter so it was a good weekend in my book.

Quick question guys.....

I have a couple oil spots on the driveway (rather large) from when I switched out my PS lines and my PS Pump. I had cardboard down, and had a pan to catch what came out. But no mater how carefull a person is, you always seem to spill some.

The spots. One is about 5 inches in diameter, and the other is larger, maybe a foot in diameter. I immediatly dabbed both up with a rag, and after I was done with the repairs, I had a half of a bottle of Simple Green that I dumped on them, scrubbed with a thick bristle broom, and rinced. I did this over a few times with the simple green, but once it dried, they are still very visable.

I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good household chemicles that can be used to safely clean oil (or power steering fluid rather) off the driveway. I would prefer something that is environmentally safe and wont kill the grass.

Thanks for any info!

Try some Dawn dish washing soap. It has grease cutters in it.
Also put some cat litter on the stain and grind it in a bit and wait a few hours. Then sweep it up and if any of the stain remains either do it again or try the Dawn.

You know most dish soap properly diluted with water helps kills the bugs that may attack house plants and ones in your garden, if any. Just put it into a spray bottle.

For bad fluid contamination on the driveway or in your garage steam cleaning or high pressure wash cleaning works like a champ.

Yeah, I dont know. Seems right after I put the autolites in, the gtp wouldnt start as easy as before. Like with the delco 41-101's I could turn the key on, let the fuel pump prime, and then tap the starter and it would start every time. After the install it takes a second or two of cranking before it starts. Recently it seems to have gotton worse and since I have a year on those plugs, I think its time for them to be changed.

Maybe I should check fuel pressure? (fuel filter is also two years old....maybe its time to go)

Thanks for the info.

BNaylor

I have no problems with the Autolite colder plugs in my GTP. I use the 103 but closed the gap to below .050". I use the NGK TR55IX Iridium with stock gap in my Regal GS and wife's LS and no problems.

You might have another issue.

I think I will do a full tune up on it and see if that helps

.

Bob, just to clarify. Be very careful which dish soaps you use on plants. There are many newer formulations on the market that have ingredients in them that can damage or kill plants. Stick with the basic "older standby" types that have been around. They are very effective against aphids.
( a little known fact : If I had not chosen the automotive industry when I did all those years ago I would be involved in the Horticulture Industry. I have been dealing with plants and such over 30 years. I've even taken courses and have certificates in many areas, and have written articles for our local paper and a national magazine. It is a big hobby of mine that almost turned into a business for me.)

With your SC pulley go with the 6s.

This brings back old memories. When I used to browse other GP forums about 6 years ago I helped a guy with a long start problem. Cranking was around 3 seconds before firing up. Ignition and fuel pressure was good. For some reason the PCM was resetting but not dropping any of the program. You will get the same condition with you disconnect the battery negative cable and then reconnect. Whenever you do that it takes a few seconds for the engine to start but on subsequent tries it should fire right up with in about 1 second or so. The PCM module was defective. A DHP by the way but the programming was good. The guy did not send his in to get flashed but got another from DHP so you never know what you are going to get back. Also, maybe a crank variation learn may help if you did not do that.

tblake
04-19-2009, 11:48 AM
Thanks Bob! Think I'll do a full tune up, rent a fuel presure guage, and see what I come up with.

If the tune up doesnt solve my issue, I'll swap out my PCM with the stock one and see how it goes.

Would the long start times be also caused by a leaky LIM gasket? I'm still waiting on my MMS LIM to arrive..... Maybe it has a vacuum leak?

It could be but maybe not. When the wife's Regal LS had bad LIM gaskets it used coolant and I assumed there was a vacuum leak or crankcase ventilation issue but it would fire right up like a champ so hard to say. :dunno:

We're at 38 and snow this morning but tomorrow is supposed to be 75, then the next 3 days 85 degrees. That's one problem with this area, you can go from winter to summer with no spring in just a couple of days. We don't get a chance to enjoy some moderate temps before it gets too hot. The trees are just starting to bud out and I'm sure by the end of next week everything will look different.

I'd rather see GMC get the axe. That's more a duplication of Chevrolet. Pontiac fills the need for buyers between Chevy and Buick( or Cadillac). Saw a news report Wednesday night where GM sales are breaking records and remain strong over in China, a totally opposite picture over there. One such story here.
