I had a '88 Chevy Caprice company car back in the late 80s. Great family car and cruiser. Plus lots of mods available for the small block engine.

I hope everyone has a Happy Halloween. Wylie I didn't know you guys celebrated Halloween up North. You mean the big kiddies?

The Z06 doesn't need a supercharger to turn mid - high 11s and if it had one the ET would have been better. You can't tell by the video because there are so many cars at the staging area. I believe the Z06 ran someone in the left lane but that was cutout. This Z06 did have drag radials.

yea the ZO6 sounded pretty nice too. i couldnt imagine running mid 11's when i had my trans am before this GTP i was running 13.4 and i thought that was fast haha. its all good.

you know they really are making cars so theres not really much to do them straight from the factory. for instance the 2007 ecalade comes with vented fenders,up to 27" stock rim option chrome option...and so on. the STI's come with racing eats, carbon fiber options wilwood and brembo brakes. i mean were not talking about just any old cheapies these are quality brands. the ZO6 has 500 horses out the door. its crazy. but its all about popular demand people want a fast car but dont want to research the parts and have to have their car in the shop and what not so they order it factory direct. i think its a great thing but people who do that dont realy get the props or respect of owning the car with 600 horses or having a carbon fiber hood or 22's.

HAMMER: Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate expensive parts not far from the object we are trying to hit.
MECHANIC'S KNIFE: Used to open and slice through the contents of cardboard cartons delivered to your front door; works particularly well on boxes containing seats and motorcycle jackets.
ELECTRIC HAND DRILL: Normally used for spinning steel Pop rivets in their holes until you die of old age, but it also works great for drilling mounting holes in fenders just above the brake line that goes to the rear wheel.
PLIERS: Used to round off bolt heads.
I thought this tool definition list was pretty funny:
HACKSAW: One of a family of cutting tools built on the Ouija board principle. It transforms human energy into a crooked, unpredictable motion, and the more you attempt to influence its course, the more dismal your future becomes.
VISE-GRIPS: Used to round off bolt heads. If nothing else is available, they can also be used to transfer intense welding heat to the palm of your hand.
OXYACETELENE TORCH: Used almost entirely for lighting various flammable objects in your garage on fire. Also handy for igniting the grease inside a brakedrum you're trying to get the bearing race out of.
WHITWORTH SOCKETS: Once used for working on older British cars and motorcycles, they are now used mainly for impersonating that 9/16 or 1/2 socket you've been searching for the last 15 minutes.
DRILL PRESS: A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings your beer across the room, splattering it against that freshly painted part you were drying.
WIRE WHEEL: Cleans rust off old bolts and then throws them somewhere under the workbench with the speed of light. Also removes fingerprint whorls and hard-earned guitar callouses in about the time it takes you to say, "Ouch...."
HYDRAULIC FLOOR JACK: Used for lowering a motorcycle to the ground after you have installed your new front disk brake setup, trapping the jack handle firmly under the front fender.
EIGHT-FOOT LONG DOUGLAS FIR 2X4: Used for levering a motorcycle upward off a hydraulic jack.
TWEEZRS: A tool for removing wood splinters.
PHONE: Tool for calling your neighbor to see if he has another hydraulic floor jack.
SNAP-ON GASKET SCRAPER: Theoretically useful as a sandwich tool for spreading mayonnaise; used mainly for getting dog-doo off your boot.
E-Z OUT BOLT AND STUD EXTRACTOR: A tool that snaps off in bolt holes and is ten times harder than any known drill bit.
TIMING LIGHT: A stroboscopic instrument for illuminating grease buildup.
TWO-TON HYDRAULIC ENGINE HOIST: A handy tool for testing the tensile strength of ground straps and brake lines you may have forgotten to disconnect.
CRAFTSMAN 1/2 x 16-INCH SCREWDRIVER: A large motor mount prying tool that inexplicably has an accurately machined screwdriver tip on the end without the handle.
BATTERY ELECTROLYTE TESTER: A handy tool for transferring sulfuric acid from a car battery to the inside of your toolbox after determining that your battery is dead as a doornail, just as you thought.
AVIATION METAL SNIPS: See hacksaw.
TROUBLE LIGHT: The mechanic's own tanning booth. Sometimes called a drop light, it is a good source of vitamin D, "the sunshine vitamin," which is not otherwise found under motorcycles at night. Health benefits aside, its main purpose is to consume 40-watt light bulbs at about the same rate that 105-mm howitzer shells might be used during, say, the first few hours of the Battle of the Bulge. More often dark than light, its name is somewhat misleading.
PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER: Normally used to stab the lids of old-style paper-and-tin oil cans and splash oil on your shirt; can also be used, as the name implies, to round off Phillips screw heads.
AIR COMPRESSOR: A machine that takes energy produced in a coal-burning power plant 200 miles away and transforms it into compressed air that travels by hose to a Chicago Pneumatic impact wrench that grips rusty bolts last tightened 60 years ago by someone in Springfield, and rounds them off.
PRY BAR: A tool used to crumple the metal surrounding that clip or bracket you needed to remove in order to replace a 50 cent part.
HOSE CUTTER: A tool used to cut hoses 1/2 inch too short.

hey ya'll! i've got a Heinz 57 type of car here. 78 GP, with a 305 Chevy sb, 350 turbo trans, and soon to be a Ford 9" with a trac-loc and 4.11 gears, to be pushed by a 400 Chevy 4-bolt sb stroked to a 454. we're going to try to put a Weiland 6-71 blower in it. we've got ideas, but i guess i should first redo the body and frame. i have NO floor at all, and the body has gone to hell. any ideas?

richtazz
11-16-2006, 08:23 AM
Those cars have notoriously weak frames, especialy the rear part aft of the axle. With some frame stiffening and a little floorboard work, you should have a nice start to a fun car. I would dump the smogger 305 (that engine was offered stock that year BTW) in favor of a 350 (exactly the same externally, but more torque and much better bore/stroke ratio for hot-rodding). The TH350 trans is good for about 400ft/lbs, so if you're thinking blower, you may want to switch to a TH400. Stick with a reasonable rear gear ratio (3.73:1 or numerically lower), especially if you're going to drive it on the street.

richtazz

The Firebird is the base model, the Trans-Am is a performance version. Same as Camaro/ Z-28. It's mostly bolt on stuff (wheels, spoilers, ground effects, etc...) but the Trans-Am/Z-28's get standard performance upgrades (hi-Po engine, bigger brakes, Hi-Perf tires, etc...) that are optional on the base Firebird/Camaro.

Butting in...lol.

A Trans Am is just a glorified Firebird with a much higher price tag due to the styling and performance features. Also, you left out the Formula. I prefer the Formula model over all the other versions. Like the Trans Am you could get the WS6 Ram Air and Handling Package and the LS1 (5.7 liter V8) engine.

Also, there was Firehawk version of the Firebird from 1992 - 2002.

So, college football fans, do you guys agree with the BCS match-ups, or do you think Michigan got hosed? I live in Michigan, and my nephew was a memeber of the Wolverines 1997 National Championship team, so I'm kind of biased. I agree with some of their criteria (Michigan didn't win it's conference, they got their chance, etc...) but if USC would have won out, do you really think Florida would have passed Michigan or stayed #4? I believe the ONLY reason Florida is in was to avoid the rematch. Do you guys agree?

I really haven't been keeping up with college football and BCS this year but I wonder how the Cowboys will do with the final two games in the regular season and the playoffs. It is nice to have a half ass decent Quarterback now with Tony Romo. Hopefully the loss to New Orleans was a fluke considering the Saints were beat by the Redskins last week (week 15) but you never know.

The Cowboys will have their hands full with Philadelphia, but they have a guaranteed win against the REDICULOUSLY pitiful Lions. I'm not a Cowboy fan at all (big Steelers fan here, been so since the 70's), but they really came together well late in the season, and look pretty good. I also dispise T.O., but at least this year he's walking the walk to back the talk.

Old Caprices are cool!!! I have a buddy that has one that's 2 tone gray. It has a built 454, but he retained the stock wire wheel covers so it's quite a sleeper. He found a set of rough looking 8" wide steel rally wheels with wider tires so he could get it to hook. Unless you look close and notice the wider tires, it looks like grandpa's bone stock grocery getter, but runs high 12's, low 13's on his street tires. With a set of slicks so it would really hook, he'd be way in the 12's.
