Ya Gir that Borla pic is deceiving.
Your muffler should be marked in and outs.
The "in" will only go in one place, on the left(driversside).
The muffler fits kinda at an angle too \\ like that .

alrighty, will the inlet be closer to theeee... bumper ? and it'd be over piped weird or would the inlet be more towards the.... fuel tank... curious...
it'd work both ways but there would have to be that angle thing
--EDIT
HERE WE GOOOO!
Thats what Im lookin for! yay or nay?
Think there would be any wind drag from under?
Would it be better to be angled the other way??
the hanger on the driver side would be right off of the pipe I would think and the other on the passenger would be off the actual muffler maybe.... w/e works..

Yes that is the way it goes in thier. pretty cheesy looking  just looks like its pushed together, no clamps no welds :screwy: that'll fly off one day
Plus that muffler , I believe thats a Magna flow which is bigger. And the pipe at the inlet is to long, possibly why it hangs low.
Heres a flowmaster 80 installed, and it doesnt hang that low.

Hey Guys, I'm in a bit of a dilema right now. Yesterday i was at the stealership getting a new retainer ring for my headlight ( cheap ass plastic) when i decided to look at the cars on the lot. Well i found a used G6 GTP sedan. one of salesmans come over and does his whole speech, looks at my car.. then offers to find out what kind of deal he could get me. So he goes and talks to his manager, comes back, and says with trade of my car, I'll get the G6 GTP (http://bz.homenetinc.com/includes/showpicture.asp?vehicle_id=1G2ZM551764133239&img=/root/data/automanager/Green_Brook_New/C4107.jpg)for 12k. Is this a steal or what? It's an 06 with 29k miles, the dark gray( not my top choice in color) and it has cloth interior (i prefer leather.) Cosmetically it looks good, with one or two tiny scratchs no dents or repairs that i could see. I checked the value, everything seems to be correct, it goes for about 20k, and mine is worth about 9,500, so in reality they are giving me about 8,000 for my car... So what do you guys think, good deal?

Doesnt sound like a good deal to me, but I'm a cheapasss !
I like the rims (http://bz.homenetinc.com/root/data/automanager/Green_Brook_New/C4107(4).jpg) on the G6, and the revamped round vents(kinda like the GA?) Oh and the shifter plate looks cool!
$8k on a trade-in is pretty good.
I'd hold out for a better color too, they are GTPs :D

id wait for the 07 or newer, like.. the 06 and 07 GTP have like a 10hp difference or something like that.. remember reading it somewhere
if anything it'd be a new daily driver with some small things done, Kyle from Dr. Speed already has a large list of cold air intakes fabbed up for the GTP

Well i do sort of want to hold out, BUT this is a really good deal that i could afford... SO at the same time, i'm trying to figure out what's the best for me. It's like do i hold onto the G/a and hope it doesn't crap out on me for good, or do i just go for the newer car and try for the best deal.
I test drove the car last night and DAMN, that car drives sooo NICE! It's FAST too! Holy SHIT! The sales man gave me the keys and said have fun, HE wasn't even in the car! So I really took it through it paces, plus it was just starting to rain so i go to see how it handled! It doesn't take much to spin the wheels in the car, plus when traction control kicks on it's not like the G/a where it bogs you down to a stop practically!
Gir: The G6 would be more of daily car for me, since that's what the G/a is right now. I know what your talking about for the horse difference, But for only 10 more, I'm not gonna go crazy. The 3.6L 252 horse engine that they are putting in the 07 was orginally the engine that was supposed to go in the G6 when they first came out. They were supposed to have something like 4 or 5 engine choices. Then they dropped it down to 3, when they brought it out. The ONLY thing is the 3.6L only comes in auto, NO manny tranny as of yet!

Those look nice, tho I dont know how that device that adjusts it works.
Might wait till they get some reveiws.
Dampening the ride does help it hold to the road,
its more for racing than street. But if you do both :D
Just makes the ride stiff or bouncy I guess you could say.
I saw tricked out once and they put on an "electronic" damper. :gay:
I hav been looking for adjustable hight struts.
They hav a big nut that adjusts the hight up & down.
Seen them for all sorts of imports tho :angryfire

wonder how hard it'd be to adjust... what it all takes? :dunno: .. raising the car up on that wheel? adjust .. and lower?
EXHAUST BEING DONE THIS SATURDAY HORAY, cant wait to get paid and get this mess settled, being loud and all is nice, but the waste of gas isnt lol...
My biggest fear at the moment if after long hour or so of driving that the down pipe to the cat is slowly bending down .. only thing that might save it and hold up would be the sensor after the cat
I really hope this muffler sounds nice ;)
edit---
What would be the most someone could get out of an exhaust? I've heard storys of just a cat-back adding 12hp and then like a high-flo cat adding another 5-8hp ... but headers ive heard stories of 20hp+ gains?
Eventually I plan on adding the S&S Ceramic headers, more than likely around xmas or after this year.... after my NEXT paycheck I am either going to buy my fastfwd pulley or the high-flo cat from S&S...
Looking at my sig, and what the 'companies' say .... some of the stuff I have planned really add some gains =o ..
Pully: they say 'expect 8-10hp'

On those struts, I was wondering how they adjusted to.
Looks like that knob would be inside the coil springs and you couldnt get to it to adjust
btw Gir, those pullys dont giv us V6ers much gain, just revs up quicker, and looks flashy :D
I saw one of these turbos on Horsepower TV, they put a twin T kit on a New Corvette(like it neededit).
Both turbos went in back, the air filter was behind the taillights, and had all this piping to run up to the TB.
Btw Gir that Texas racing link goes to a login page

IMO a smaller one on a v6 wouldnt get may hp gains .
tho it would make the alternator , power steering , water pump, turn faster. Which could cause premature failures of those components. just my :2cents:
I knew the differance between the two, the SE has the RSM cut out type pully. Just made it get the rpms up a little quicker. And squeeked like crazy when I first installed it with the stock belt. Goodyear Gatorback fixed that tho.

Guess we'll have to see, I wanna get some reviews on both before deciding

winter tips from the xi?
Been lookin around and saw that people are getting coolant flushes lately? Guess that would be a good thing to do, cant remember when I last did mine, just a whole flush... Im still pumpin the uhhh dex coolant :dunno: nice n orange crap =) .... I wouldnt want to run into any coolant problems this time around... last year I had that problem w/ my quick connect right before the heater core.. the plastic was broken inside the hose and it was seeming through the cracks of that...... OTHER than that, all my hoses were replaced but dunno on the flush... at the moment the GA heats up on its own to around 200F-205F .. mainly just 200F when im just cruisin around so I guess all in all its flowin pretty good..
Last winter I was fighting rain/ice buildup on my car being frozen out of my own car after getting off work at blockbuster
one thing ive been thinking on/off about is getting the upper and lower gaskets replaced on the engine w/ the new metal pieces instead of the plastic but :dunno: not sure how much that'd all be or how long it'd take... hopefully an all day job. I just dont want to run into the problem of coolant + oil = milky chocolate fluid  lemme get my oreos for this tasty treat lol...
and in the future :dunno: if I were to grab the headers from S&S, would I be able to put them on myself or would I need a lift to be able to go under, maybe for the back header.....

Ya Gir, If you live up in the northern U.S. it gets pretty cold in the winter.
Most people dont ever change thier coolant, or thermostat, untill they hav troubles.
Coolant does last a long time tho.
If it still "looks" like the orange dex(or the green) its probly ok.
But if it looks brown and rusty/crusty,
chaces are it needs to be flushed.
Getting the coolant checked to see how low/high you are coverd for.
I thought you had the lower intake leak last year ???
:uhoh: So many people hav them, its hard to keep track .
My GT is still in breakin mode since I changed the LIM earlier this year.
I keep it under 4k rpms for about 1k miles, just to make sure everythings seeted good before I go WOT :)
Headers can be done DIY, but I'll tell you now its a PITA !
The exhaust header bolts are prone to breaking off and that requires you to drill/tap the broken pieces out.
Not alot of room under the hood for drills :shakehead
Best done with the heads out :grinyes: (drilling/taping that is). But you might bet lucky and none break.
The GT had one broken off on the front of the motor when I bought it. Luckily some heat and the vise grips got it out.
Does require some under car work to connect the cat/exhaust and the O2 senors.

exhaust is finished! just one leak =P grr the guy who did my stuff is like ... car smart, can build a car from ground up if he wanted, but dont count on em fixing the exhaust... we overshot alot of stuff, I just kinda stood there and helped em out, no1 else would in the shop lol... but we did a bevel to the remaining pipe after the flange cause I figured im just gonna go ahead if I have enough money in 2 weeks to do my headers and high-flo cat at the same time...
my exhaust at the moment is sooooo quiet like
its more quiet than my old glasspack muffler
guess I just gotta break it in? .. I remember the glasspack being like that, eventually louder... much louder b/c of headers and new cat

Well I've gone it now... I bought the G6 GTP last night. My g/a had one too many problems for me to be worring about especially since I drive alot :disappoin . So i got my 06 G6 GTP ( jeez that's a mouth full if you say outloud and fast) with 30,000 miles, with an extended warranty for less then 13K$'s after tax title etc. The dealer wasn't happy about the deal i was making, BUT they really wanted to make that deal, so i had them at my mercy! The really couldn't wait to get their hands on the Grand am though, jeez no sooner i signed the papers, they were already driving off, and they were hounding me today for the title and other keys. Little do they know that I took everything off the car that was mine( strut tower braces, etc) , PLUS all the problems the car has, and accidents it's been in! HAHAHAHAH. I guess we better watch out for someone on the forums for a new-used g/a gt with 90K miles on it. The G6 is SOOOOO much fun though! I'm gonna get into a lot of trouble with this car! :evillol: Try-n-keep up now :naughty:
I'll post pics soon of the new car.

Glad to hear you made it back in one piece XI. I understand about the other half getting pissy about vacations. Mine did the same thing a few weeks back when we went to a B&B and i went to work for a few hours in the morning. Well she didn't let that one go for the entire weekend and then some... oh well you win some you lose some.
For the G/a I got about 7500 trade on it. which wasn't great, but i did get them up from the 6500 they were only gonna give me since they said the car would not start for them right away I then lied my ass off saying I've never had that happen to me before and started interrogating them on what they broke on my car.... LOL:lol: , plus i got the price of the G6 down from 23,000 to 18,000 then trade, and down payment and extened warranty...but basically i walked out on the financing manager when the price hit 15,000 and payments were 290 a month. I told him NO, and said make the total price under 13,000 and payments less then 250! LMAO and they did it! hahahahahahah:rofl: . And now i'm gonna refinance the car soon as the loan goes through through my insurance to get a better deal! HAHA
Gir, the paste crap is a waste of money, I've tried it before. it lasts for about a month or two then it blows right off. For the parts i'm gonna sell them when i get a chance, probably on e-bay, I'll let everyone know though before i do to make it easier for people to get there hands on them. I'm still undecided on the seat emblems i had on the car that said pontiac grand am... cuz i still could use them on My 88 g/a.... hmmmm

Sounds like you got a good deal on the G6.
You really can haggle the sales people with price and payments. Especially when you traded a decent cars, hell they'll ask about $9k for it, if its not already sold.
I would not buy a car unless its 2-3yrs old.
The main thing is, IMO, all first model cars hav horrable bugs and gremlins that didnt get worked out in the Lab.
So the consumer has to pay the price :eek7:
Hopefully they did get the bugs out before they started selling them.
You would think by now, the whole car making system would be flawless

Lets put it this way, the salesman was not happy by the time i walked out:shakehead , cuz i screwed him big time on his commission. But the best part was he didn't find out I'm a sales manager myself, until the day before i bought the car. HAHAHAH! I do have to say they were drooling over the G/A, the moment i signed the papers, and took everything out, they jumped in and took off with it. So they must have really wanted that car. Well sucks for them since they are gonna have to deal with ALL the problems or unfortunetly the next person does...
I haven't seen any major problems to watch out for on the G6's as of yet, so hopefully i'll be fine. The only problem for mine is the check engine light is on already but it was the gas cap wasn't seating properly so the SES light came on after they filled it up at the dealer. I just have to bring it back and have it reset.
(You would think by now, the whole car making system would be flawless) => the car making system is flawless, it's the overseas workers and parts that are flawed!

I had heard of break.com but hadnt been there.
I guess I never hav really searched for vids on the net.
Everyone else always finds them first, thanx  :D
Well everyone, the SE has developed a leak on the right seal on the halfshaft, from the trany :shakehead
Thier is also some noise coming from that area.
On the lift today everything on the axles were in good shape(boots, CV joints). They arent even a year old.
I'm really hoping its a seal and not the drive that turns the spine on the axles :disappoin
I hav been ripping the pavement this past month or so....
Maybe that had something to do with it.

As scary as this may sound i've seen cars in close to that condition that drive down the road like that, doors flying open when making a turn, really bad. I wouldn't expect to see something like that in my area, being very metro and all, but somehow people bring their junker back to life and drive it before the police take it away or that thing falls apart on the road. The pic i posted though i found it on the web.

guys never buy a Toyota. or if you do, the first sign of rust, get rid of it!:2cents: In my spare time i've been working on my G/f's moms toyota so she can sell it. Well there was some rust on the doors. So like anyone would i scrape at the rust and paint and a hole forms. so being that it was there a while i didn't think much of it until I got to the other door where the rust just started to form not much larger then a dime, i press on it with my finger... well you guessed it, my finger goes right through the door. now it looked like i was fingering the car... i never saw rust eat through metal so fast. The sooner i can finish this car the less i have to deal with rust holes or any other aggrevation!

I've got a simple solution for your rust problem. A deserted back road, full insurance, a can of wd40 and a lighter. No further instructions should be needed, just kill the dash first and lie about the mileage.:evillol: Seriously, rust does suck, I have a little on the grand am, fixing that in november and the car should be good for another year or so, but I've said that for the last 2 years and 50k miles.

well that's a thought :grinyes: , there is only a few problems. The car already has VERY low mileage ( 64k for a 92 so it would be to our advantage for the insurance to see that) plus the car does not start at the moment and when you do get it started the car will over heat in a matter of 5-10 mins since it's leaking antifreeze and mixing antifreeze and oil or tranny oil in the radiator only :uhoh: . I've had my 88 G/A rust, and I only had one hole form, since it was underneath a molding otherwise nothing more then that. This car, it takes only a month and you have a hole....

rust sucks !!!!
The SE has some under the uper rear fender wells.
Water runs right off the roof and just hangs under there rotting away my fender :banghead:
IT good other wise.
Someone paid big bucks for an undercarrage coating , pretty thick too !
You can fly down gravle(tho I never do gravel) and you cant even hear it hit the floors.
Whats that companies name that does the rust protection ?
anyways, rust still sucks !

rhino lining? ... in south tx they do bed lining for your truck and Ive also heard of a process of some spray or tar solute that you spray under ur car and such so when out on the beach many times or long periods of time, you dont have all to much to worry about... its thin but tough, just think non sticky tar =D

Their's another rust spray you can get, just i can't remember the name at the moment. You spray it directly onto rust and when it dries it turns the rust into a hard black spot. then you can prime and paint right over it... i had some of this stuff courtesy of my neighbor, no clue where he got itor the name plus the can i had exploded in my garage. I was surprised on how well it worked. thankfully my 02 G/a never had any rust, but then again after being repainted a few times, i doubt it would.

Stuff you guys are thinking about is called Naval Jelly. I think it sucks. Personally, I use Aircraft Remover, buy the gallon as its undilluted. This stuff eats rust, plastic, paint, aluminum, rubber, skin, pretty much everything except steel and glass. Put it on a painted surface, sounds like rice crispies after you pour the milk in, and you can watch the paint bubble off. Does the same thing with rust. Not quite as fast on plastic, if you were pulling a decal off and had a bucket of water handy it could be used, just don't scrape it off. Basically the stuff is something like 90% ammonia, so use it outside.

That's not the stuff I'm talking about, i have that crap and it doesn't work that well. The only thing i can remember was that it had a big bright orange sticker on it stating that it's known to cause cancer in the state of california... so if it's that toxic it must REALLY work. LOL Actually pretty much everything is known at this point to cause cancer in the state of california. The stuff i got from my neighbor, i don't think is sold in stores since he used to work in a body shop so it maybe something you have to order... but I will have too look into this now....

Rust-Oleum makes a spray called "Rust Performer" that converts rust into a primable, paintable surface. I worked over in Paint and Hardware at Wal-Mart for two years and people would go nuts over that stuff. Says right on the can that it turns rust into a sealed, paintable surface. Probably not what your talking about but it apparently works, and rustoleum makes a fine product.
