Eighties Contest

After our very democratic process the theme for this years contest has been chosen, so time to kick it off.

1. The contest is open to any vehicle competing in a professional motorsport series in the 1980s.
2. There will once again be two categories, curbside and full detail. For the time being we will define curbside as a car with all the panels closed and without a full engine.
3. Deadline to have models finished and photos submitted is 1 Jul 2006. So plenty of time.
4. All entries must have an AF progress thread to aid in judging, share modelling techniques and show you shed the blood, sweat and tears! Progress can be as in depth or quick and dirty as you like.
5. Winners of the two categories will be decided by popular vote. Just like "People's Choice" was this year.
6. Prizes will be in the form of trophies! freakmech has kindly offered to have them made and sent to the winners.
7. You can enter as many models as you’d like to build between now and the deadline.
8. Entries must be new builds begun seriously this year. Because the main reason for this contest is to motivate us to build something!
9. To declare your entry just start a progress thread titled “Eighties Contest Entry: <model name>” and build away! I’ll be keeping track of all the threads here.

Can the cars be built straight out of the box?

Sure, why not. Added detail, however, do increase the chances of a good result. The kit I'm thinking of making actually includes photoetched parts and as far as I'm concerned, no additional detail sets are necessary.

Hhmm. That's a bit sneaky.
I've just looked on HLJ, and it looks like it's going to be really difficult to even find cars that competed in the eighties. I didn't see any. Maybe one F1 car.

does the Lancia ECV qualify for this contest? It was built for Group S rallying, but unfortunately the demise of Group B saw to it that Group S would never run. Pleeeeeeease? I kinda started already.

Re: Eighties Contest

Sure, it may have never actually competed, but it was a real car developed for rallying in the eighties.

Hello all,

I have finally done my definitive choice !! it will be the absolutly fabulous Peugeot 205 T16 than ran the 1985 Monte Carlo rally !!
that's a model I feel like building since several years, and now I think I have collected enough documents and pics to do it.
and moreover I have the motivation too !
then I will propose a full detailed (and opened !) model...!!
already two kits ordered, before purchasing the Renaissance PE transkit...
well, I will have to make it cos' it will cost me much money, sweat and blood !!
I think I will start the building in september, I have to finish my Fabia before starting such an ambitious project !
bye
Philippe

OK, this decade was hard for me to choose a subject...
How about Barry Sheene's YZR500 from 1980?
The kits on its way!!!

Re: Eighties Contest

Count me in for a Robrex inspired Sauber Mercedes C9. I'll be having a first effort at opening doors up and the whole front end of the chassis will be scratchbuilt, I've built the jig so that I can cut it up, I'm just waiting on a spare bodyshell and the Studio 27 detail set and it's all systems go.

Robrex has inpired me to do a Motorcycle as well for the comp. Im building the 1985 Honda NSR 250. This will be my first ever Motorbike, i dont know anything about them, the only reason i bought the kit was because i thought it was funny that Noodle Cup was a sponsor.
EDIT: uh oh, i dont have instructions for this kit and all the writing on box is Japanese. the only number i see is 1985 but im beginning to think this was raced in 90's, anybody know?

You might also see a Nissan Calsonic R88 or R89 (if SMS kit comes out)from me as well but no time soon. we will see.
