Eighties COntest Entry: Bathurst Ford Sierra - need help!

I plan to build a Ford Sierra for the 1980's comp. Curbside to boost numbers in that section (and because I can't compete with the likes of Rob and Guy in the full detail section! ). Problem is I can't find the old Roodecal sheet of the cars I'd really like to build. Namely the Tony Longhurst Benson and Hedges livery or Glen Seton Peter Jackson car. The sheet is code number RC05.

From what I can tell Roodecals are no longer in business. The Victorian Hobby Centre bought up the remainder of their stock a while back and that is pretty much all gone now except for a few of the less desirable items. Out of luck there.

So does anybody have a spare set of these decals lurking away in a dark cupboard they'd be prepared to part with for a reasonable sum? I'd really appreciate any info that could help tracking them down!

If not then I do have a sheet for the 1989 Brock Mobil 1 car and Bond Caltex machine. I'll probably end up building the latter car, 'cause it looks pretty cool, red and white with stars behind the race numbers. Haven't been able to track down any reference pics, help there would be very much appreciated as well.

Phil, good to see you building something!
Great subject choice!
I could always drop in at DJR if you need some detail photographs?

Have you tried Pattos Place for the decals, they have the Super Quality decal option now.

Hi Phil.
I was looking at a DJR Sierra for this. I probably have quite a few reference shots of the Peter Jackson cars. Only externals though. If you want I can hunt them out for you and email them. Good luck with it.

Awesome idea for a build. Ford Sierras were awesome race cars in the late 80's. ATCC sierras had some nice paintjobs. And both the B&H Sierra and Peter Jackson sierras looked nice.

I still think it was funny how Brock "a diehard" Holden man switched to BMW in 1988 and then Joined Ford in 1989 .

Do you happen to have some reference pics of the decal sheets of the the PJ or B&H decal sheets that roodecals made?

Thanks for the link Rob, but I'd rather use the Roodecal sheet for the Bond car than resort to Patto's. I've tried some of his decals before and they aren’t anywhere near as good as proper screen printed stuff. Does DJR have a permanent museum? If so it sounds like a place worth a visit. I'd be very receptive of any reference photos thank you, but no need to go out of your way, I need to keep this build as simple as possible.

Malscar - yes please, I'd love to see any references you have of Seton's (or any other) Sierra. It's the version I'd most like to build but I don't like my chances of finding the Roodecal sheet. And as said above, Patto's wouldn't do the subject justice.

Gavkiwi, no I don't have anything much in the way of references. I'm going to try and get hold of a 1989 Bathurst 1000 annual. Should give a few clues at least. I think Brock's temporary split with Holden might have had something to do with his "Energy Polariser" scam. I find it hard to take anything he says seriously after he came out with that.

Cheers guys, thanks. Now can anybody fix me up with that Seton/Longhurst sheet?

Hi Phil. Yes DJR have a Museum/shop at the front of their workshop which is only 15 mins from me. They usually have the Tru Blu, Greens Tuf Falcons, Mustang and Sierra on display.
Cheers
Tony

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: 1989 Ford Sierra RS500

This forum is great, it's full of very helpful people like Mal (Malscar)! He not only scanned lots of sierra pictures from his library but also offered to send me some Seton decals free of charge! Very generous, thanks Mal.

However, I was really taken with the below pic of Colin Bond's Caltex Sierra from the Symons Plains meeting. the livery is very different to that he raced at Baturst. I think it looks great with the flourescent red, red roof and wheel centers, so I'll have a go at building it for the comp. Trouble is there isn't a picture of the rear of the car to see what was going on there, so I'll have to make a guess. If anybody knows what the rear looked like tell us now or forever hold your peace! I won't be starting it for a while yet at any rate.

Hi RallyRaider,
maybe something like that may help you, or at least this seller contact ?

Well Phil you better pull your finger out. I've half finished the one I discussed with you. Just can't get the photo upload to work.

Agree Mal, I do need to get the finger out! But I never inteded to start this particular car until next year, gotta finish the Jag and a Porsche first (actually I gotta start the Porsche too!). If you are having trouble uploading pics you can email them to me and I'll host them for you.

Is this the slowest progress thread on the forum or what?

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: 1989 Ford Sierra RS500

Checked the eBay links out. Thanks guys, I'm now all set for decals. Already had one Bond Caltex sheet, picked up a second, because Roodecals look like they can be a bit translucent. Still waiting on the RHD dash from Northcoast Hobbies. Ordered it weeks ago but nothing and they're not answering their phone the last couple of days. Maybe they've gone on holidays or enjoying the summer weather? If I can't get hold of them I might have to resort to modifying the dash myself!

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: 1989 Ford Sierra RS500

Would a RHD dash from an XR4i kit be of any help?
