Eighties contest:Ford RS200 1/43 scale

I have been out of modeling for about 10yrs now but I have been watching this contest and thought I would give it a go.
I will be converting a Minichamps road RS200 into a rally car from the 1986 Acropolis rally.
I will have to make a new front bumper and roof air intake + detailed engine and insides.
1/43 scale

I will try to take it from this

My favourite of the Group B cars. Best of luck, I'll be sure to follow this one!

Intersting idea to convert the diecast. Great subject, will be a welcome addition to the Eighties Comp. Best of luck with it.

Are the "Starter" decals still available? I have the resin kit buried somewhere at home and I think I may need some new ones.

Hi. these are from an old kit. The large blue decals have cracked, so I will have to try and make some new ones.

I did get another set on ebay for about £10.00. so they do come up for sale sometimes.
Check yours as they do not store very well.

After the strip down I started work on the front bumper.
The road bumper was different to the rally car.
See photos.
So first step was to cut out the number plate holder and put a new bit of plastic card at the bottom and then fill and sand.
Photos below are not that good as it is small,I will try with better lighting next time.

I'm up to the first lot of filler, still needs some more.

While I was waiting for the filler to dry on the front bumper I have started work on the air intakes for the roof.

I have started on one side and i'm very pleased as to how it came out.
I took the air intakes from a IXO model which were very wrong in shape.
The plan is to cast it in resin as I have some other RS200 to convert.

I spent the best part of 2 hours stripping the paint off the body as when I spray it white the red would have shown through.
The paint was very hard and the paint stripper was about 3 years old, which did not help.
I have still got to do so work around the head lights but should be ready to paint soon.
Once this car is completed I will get on to a real model, honest.

Here is my latest update.
I have been working on the engine.
This is from a IXO RS200.
I had to cut off quite alot to make it fit the base plate and so the suspention would still fit. The two tanks at the back had to be cut trimmed and replaced.
Because I will be making other versions of this car, once I was happy with the fit I made a rubber mould so I can make some more.

Should be hard enough tomorrow to check.
I have also finished the air intake and half way completed the front bumper.
I'm just waiting for some mesh to finish the bumper.

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: 1986 Ford RS200

Looks excellent so far, i'm just waiting for that brilliant blue-striped ford motorsport livery!
What are you going to do the engine, adding a bottom so you can actually see the ground or just detail the half one?

thank you for that.
Because the engine cover does not lift I will be just using the engine as it is. I will try to detail it.
I also need to build up the suspension and roll bar around the engine.
I will be carrying on this week.
Thanks

Keep up the good work. I think you need to get a camera with a macro function to help take less blurry pics.

Today I have built the roll cage around the engine and up to the bulk head as this was not in the kit.
I also made some decals up for the seat belts and put a decal on the spare wheel + made some straps for it.
Sorry but this is the best photo.

tonight I painted the shell.
I will leave it for about a week before I check it is all ok and clean it up.
I have taped it to and old washing powder box, so once it has been painted I can put a cover over it and out it some where warm to dry.
