Or, you could warm up the Dremel tool and build some really flashy stuff:

http://www.dreamchaos.net/~wolfox/koolBl00.htm
None of these systems cost me more than $400 to build from scratch!

There's nothing near me, but over priced small shops, the only choice is ordering the parts. I just used newegg to put together what I want and get an idea of the price, before ordering anything I'll check out pricegrabber. I should probably build a little smaller system, but can't really decide on what to cut back on. I know that if my wife likes it too much, I'll have to buy her something similar, and I really don't want to spend that much money.

Do you really need 4 gigs of RAM? You could drop to 2, get a 7800GT graphics card, 500ish watt power supply (pc power and cooling), you can probably get an older Audigy 2ZS sound card...if the computers just for gaming then the A64 4000+ would be a good choice to save some money
that there might save you a thousand bucks for a fairly similar performance showing with todays games, just (obviously) wont be as good in the future

Thanks! Kool Bl00 has since gone through a few changes. Motherboard, RAM, CPU and video card swap to really beef up performance. AMD or Intel have yet to make a chip for the masses that can TOUCH the overclocked (and steady all day long performance) core and memory in this system. Or at least - I have yet to see any singe CPU core based system benchmark in the ballpark that this monster plays in. I have a dual Opteron rig in the works, or at least it's being planned; along with redundant, hot swappable drives and power supplies.
A little bit of knowlege is a dangerous thing! Beautiful sometimes, but mostly dangerous. :smokin:

my dads looking at a 94 vin w blazer. the guy selling it i guess is trying to swindle somebody. He has kbb value on truck for 3k and get this he does not even have the rite vehichle for kbb value. He has down 95 tahoe 5.7 v8 and on the truck is a 94 vin w 4.3 cpi w typical rust and 133k.He wants like 2800 but i told my dad let me do some research before you offer anything on it.I already have a base of 1700 once you figure in that kbb tells me 2155 for a cpi motor that year truck 1994 and then on top im gonna put in to the cost the parts for cpi replacement and labor on that and other items.I told him i need to get under it and inside engine compartment to look before i give him the final asking price.I think i can get this guy down for my dad.Dad didnt like the 78 k5 convertible 4x4 i found for him that was 600 so he goes with this for now. Will keep you posted. From searching thats all i found so far that i could deduct.

First lesson in arc welding:
Wear a full face mask.
All I had were cutting goggles, for like shielding yourself from oxy cutting. Yikes! I look like a reverse red panda and my face not only hurts, but is falling off as I speak. Been hiding in my office all week since last Sunday. That MIG machine apparently throws off wicked amounts of UV light and I got myself a whole week's worth of sunburn in just 10 minutes. I knew I was in trouble when I could not feel anything around my eyes, just outside of the cover of the goggles...

Ok so there is about 2K - 3K worth of damage to my baby. My insurance company is almost positive he is at fault but they are working on numbers now and trying to squeeze me a rental while my baby is in the shop. Only problem I have with this whole deal here is that whatever damage was already there will be fixed also, but they will charge me out of pocket for what was already damaged!!!!!!!! I don't think it will be to much but saving for a wedding doesn't help either! I am hoping to get pictures up but I don't know how. I will figure it out.

Got me a date for swap and what not.It goes down the 17th.He is gonna get motor prepped on 17th and 18th, installing the distributor serpentine system from the 4.3, knock sensor, oil pump and pickup and get it ready for Monday when he drops it in.He told me i might have it back on the 21st but more than likely on the 22nd.Which is sweet.Had problem when motor was on stand with pump i need to find one with the 4.3 pickup which should be here in a couple days. So i am just gonna have him do that and get it completed and running again. I prepped alot of stuff under the hood for him and inside as well/

Yeah, that is a hella no-no. Flash burning your eyes is not just painful, but that's something that will take your sight but good. My little bro's a pro welder and he just laughed at my antics. It was a rare chance for him to talk down to big bro. :) He says I was lucky because I had ANSI spec. #12 lenses on those goggles. They block UV good and dandy, but do NOTHING for the rest of your face. As of the time I am writing this, I am fully healed up and back to normal. I also have a full helmet sitting in the work room just dying to get broken in properly. Maybe this weekend I will practice some more. :D

Has anyone else been watching the news today, especially world news from non US sources. The whole world is talking about the US using WMDs on the Iraqis in Fallujah. White phosphorus to be exact.
Appearently it all started from a news story in Italy.
Here's some info:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4417024.stm
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article9175.htm
http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&q=white%20phosphorus&btnG=Google+Search&sa=N&tab=wn
Here's a video with some (supposed) ex US soldiers talking about it, it contains some graphic images so viewer discretion is advised:
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article10907.htm
What are your opinions on this? Do you think that it was intentionally used to kill hundreds of people, or are the bodies shown just a few people that were accidentally exposed to phosphorus used to "illuminate the battlefield"?
I guess technically it's legal because we refused to agree not to use it on civilians.....

I took a crappy photo with my Webcam and darnit - it took screwing around with my Sun Solaris box to get it up to my website. I don't know why my Windows box is acting so stupid. :P But anyway, this Webshot was taken a week ago when I was still a little red around the eyes and peeling - but thankfully the terrible resolution hides it all. :) Geek alert...

I got the idea from that Ham radio guy that was a wiring expert, but somehow could not figure out the nuances of working on his blazer. His icon was some stern looking fellow in goggles. But now you know what to avoid when arc welding. Those goggles are perfect if you're oxy-acetyline cutting/welding...want to get a poor man's derma-abrasion session, wear them when you MIG together some scrap steel. :P

Has anybody seen anything about this on US news yet? I haven't. It's been on the news in the rest of the world for a week now.
The US state department says that it's not true:
http://usinfo.state.gov/media/Archive_Index/Illegal_Weapons_in_Fallujah.html
But the army bragged about using it in the March-April 2005 Field Artillery Magazine:
http://www-tradoc.army.mil/PAO/ProfWriting/2-2AARlow.pdf
Looks like they need to get their stories straight. It's no wonder that the rest of the world hates us. I'm not bashing the the US, I love this country, but I don't like being deceived, and I don't like the negative image that the country has gotten. It's all fun and games for the military now (the ones that do the planning, not the guys in the field), but it's the people that's going to have to pay for it in the future.

This is why I only grab my news from certain sources:
NPR, CBC, BBC
They cannot give less than a flip about their image, only that of which the world itself projects. Though, I have to admit, I have not heard word ONE about this on NPR. But CBC and the BBC were having a media party over this. This war, and any war for that matter is just hopelessly terrible. What the nations need to do is trick out some Blazers and race them side by side on a mixed pavement and off-road rally. Whomever can do the most laps before the truck falls apart; wins. :D

I've been thinking about doing this for a while, and this seemed like a good time to do it because there have been a lot of threads going off topic lately....I'm not pointing fingers because I know that I'm one of the worst ones about it.
Some of us like to talk about random things or tell stories, jokes, etc. and there's really no place to do it other than hosing someone else's thread, or starting numerous threads of our own. I thought that this would keep down on the clutter and help keep the other threads on topic.
Heh, clutter smutter, im lazy and usually only look in one forum section, such as Automotive Forums .com Car Chat > Chevrolet > Blazer >
And also in my experience, so do most other people, as you can tell by the number of posts/views in the page, so i find it easier to ask all questions in the most populated section, therby garunteeing a quick response. I totaly agree with ya about the stories and jokes part though, but as far as other questions requiring a semi-inteligent response i think is justified.

Update on V8. mechanic finally got started last tuesday after some insurance delay w another guy. Was down there today to give him 2 gasket things. He wanted to take off the intake and reset it in there; he said it did not seem to seel right and the intake gasket i bought looks alot better than what i put in there originally. Also a rear main seal set, we thought they were in box apparently not. He got the oil pump in and was ready to put the pan on. The old v6 was sitting there and he has to figure out how to put the fitting onto the v8 for the power brake booster and the balancer. then it goes into truck. There isn't really that much difference between the two.V8 is only a few inches longer than the other one. SO pumped up right now can not wait for it to be done.Later is better than never

SO pumped up right now can not wait for it to be done.Later is better than never
I think you should start your own thread on this subject and update with whatever you can, text photos, would be interesting to watch this happen.

Lol another update for you since its only thing i can do right now.
Manifolds are on and plugged.
All pulleys are on motor.
Intake manifold has been reseated and what not.
Motor mounts are on.
Working on vacuum on top of motor.
Modified oil pan to accept the adapter which is now on or will be shortly. Bolts have been ordered for that.
Hood fixed when 4.3 was removed.Broken bolt.
Getting a transmission friend<at same labor rate> to put in my shift kit and servo.
Were looking at an early next week drop in.
Ok got me a 219.99 headunit from circuit city for 153. Had a 15 percent off coupon and a 5 hour special and bam it was 153 along with pioneer sirius satellite radio adapter and rebate form for free install. So glad. I am gonna go down Monday and get me some pics if i have time.

Got to mod a friends sonoma today.
We did the tb mod and air box mod and then proceeded to drop a kn filter in. The air box went pretty easy with the dremel. The tb was the pain, it took forever to get it out then once it was out we couldnt get the blade to come out so we cut it and cleaned it. Then the dang rivets came out so he drove for awhile today like this which is bad idea. Then he got to talking to an old guy at autozone who did this alot of times on old rigs and he said take self tapping screws and loc tite and it worked.. Doesnt seem like much of Hp gain just more torque.

Guys got a question maybe yous can answer.Didnt want to start new thread since it doesnt pertain to my vehicle. I pulled up the delco battery failure thread and wondered what all you guys had to do to fix it. I got a call today from my friend who has the 97 sonoma and told me to come with the deep sockets. I get there and the terminal on the battery had broken off into the cable and we couldnt separate the two. So we cut off the positive end and went to Advance. Got a new battery and battery cable. We could not figure out how to route this dang cable because we figured one end had to go to the starter and starter no move. So we spliced the new 8 dollar cable half way down then spliced into the GM harness that was there electrical taped that up real tight. Then for the connector that goes from alternator to negative terminal we made a splice and then where it goes to the positive we have 3 wires there spliced and taped. We were not sure if it was going to start since none of us knew what we were doing i just learned that from my dad. She turned over so we turned it off and started it 2 more times and it works. My dad tells me its not good to splice copper wire but its working for him now and the other way required more labor and patience.

Yeah, it's the right thread. I noticed it in some of his recent posts, but didn't want to take any of the other threads off topic.
