Been there myself when I was younger. Suspended for almost 300 days. I thought I new everything and that I was slicker than them. Oops! Life caught up with me.
On a lighter note - I didn't notice when I did my last post that it was #600! Kool!

I've had 3 and no problems all 20+ over if i remember right. (well 2, one dropped off in October 2005) I don't know how Mich driving laws are, but you may be able to get a restricted licence (we call it Red License) where you can drive yourself to work/school. If you get caught its bye-bye license for 1 year. Driving the speed limit, truly is someting learned. I just learned it within the last year, but sometimes (rarely) i forget how not to mash the gas and keep going.

Driving the speed limit, truly is someting learned.
Something that I never did learn, and I'll be 37 this week.
It took buying slow vehicles to slow me down.
I'm hoping that I don't start driving my rods hard when they're built. But with 300+hp in a 2500lb car might be too hard to resist.

I've got an interview with a local new car dealership tomorrow, and i'm hoping that someone working in the field can give me some pointers.
It's for a sales position.
We've been sending e-mails back and forth for 10 days now, but still haven't met in person, due to both of our sceduals.
They understand that I've got no sales experience, but I've been working with cars (mostly on the side) all my life.
Will this be a benifit, or should I forget about everything that I know?
Sorry that I didn't post this earlier, like I should have.
Any and all tips will be greatly appreaciated
Thanks
Stu

STU,
In Order to be a Sucessful CAR DEALER you must first be a good liar, and you need to push the people into cars they simply can't afford. Numder one rule, DON'T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER...How's it go ..."good credit, bad credit, no credit, no job, don't worry, we will get you into the car of your dreams..."
PUSH PUSH PUSH till they fold and sign their life away. Now That's a good car Dealer.
JOKE...What do you call 5000 Car Dealers at the bottom of the ocean?????
A good start........

Thanks Dino, and everyone else,
If it means me lying like that I don't want the job.
in my covering letter I said that I wouldn't lie, or be a pushy sales man. I believe that being honest will bring that customer back for future sales.
If I don't get the because of my ethics that's fine.
I don't really have to work for the next almost 3 years, it would just be nice to see some extra coin coming it.

its not that you must lie, or hold the truth, but you must push, and if you know that a 3.5l in a dodge is a pos, best not mention it, people don't care how the vehical runs, they care how it looks, play off looks on it not machanical soundability, unless it looks like a pos, then play machanical

Well I'm back.
I really want to thank every one for all the good advide that they gave me. I know that it helped me out a lot.
The interview went really good. I was nervous, and it showed. But I'm starting to get over my shyness.
I think that I did a good job explaining how I want to make everyone happy. Stating that if I help the customers find and buy the right car they will leave as happy customers. And that sale would make both the daeler and myself some money, making us both happy.
I had to sell Henery a pen. After I did this he told me that it's a tough test, that it sounds like I passed.
They've got a few more interviews planned for today, and I should know either way by this weekend.
I'll let you all know that moment that I do

I'll give you a hint, they aren't imports.
Ok, I'll tell you... it's a Ford dealership.
Before everyone starts shouting at me I will point out that I handed out the same resume to every other dealership in the area, along with basicly the same covering letter. And Ford was the first dealer to request an interview.
I've also handed out somewhere around 100 more resumes, and only had 6 other interviews in the last 3 months. Some of these jobs just didn't happen and I wouldn't have wanted some of them..
My #1 income since high school has been both framing and road construction, which doesn't look good on a resume when it's time to change occupations.
Due to some permant back problems I can never go back to construction.
Plus I'm living in a new to me location, which again doesn't help not knowing people.
This will change next week if I don't get this job. I have to draw the line somewhere and move on.

Your right BlazerMan, the jobs are leaving Canada as well.
I think that it's funny, the big 3 are moving their jobs to pour countries for cheap wages, and yet the import companies are building more cars here every year.

selling a gm is as dishonest as it gets, he doesnt wanna screw people, so he should stay away from all gm dealers, a gm product is like a sears and robuck product, the day its warrenty is done with is the day b4 it breaks... and stu dont let them get to ya, gm keeps me with a good paying job, and if we waited for work on fords we wouldn't even eat out of soup cans, IMO FORD FLAT OUT BUILDS A BETTER VEHICAL, just, lets not talk about transmissions

I think that it's funny, the big 3 are moving their jobs to pour countries for cheap wages, and yet the import companies are building more cars here every year.its mainly that we are expecting too much money from them. they are not willing to shell out anymore. Most of us, wouldn't even consider a job paying below $35,000/yr or about $16.00/hr and thats starting. Not sure what they're paying overseas, but i am sure its below $10,000/yr. THREE of us, imagine the producitivity....and thats not including probably not paying medical/dental insurance, retirement, workers comp.

No shame in working for Ford. Whatever keeps a roof over your head, pays the bills, and earns you a little play money is a worthy job to me.
Don't worry about the location thing it will all work out, about 6 years ago I took a week vacation and flew from kansas to arizona to hunt for a new job put in 5 applications and actually got the one that I really wanted the most.
Best of luck with it Stu.

I do like it on Vancouver Island where I had the interview, but to be perfecty honest it just doesn't feel like home to me.
I'm hoping that this'll change if I get the job, but if I don't get it I'll just go back to the Okanagan and search some more there.
That's where I've always felt at home.
As long as I don't have to move to Alberta I'll be happy (that place was a living hell to me)

Good to hear Mike, and thanks folks
The car lot owner just today decided that he was tired of all the bickering back and forth, so that's when he slashed all the prices. And I mean really slashed them so he's still making the min amount of profit required. It'll be intresting to see how much this effects sales.
And the no trades bit is because everyone thinks their car is worth more than we do.
He just wanted to get rid of all the arguing and give everyone the most honest price possible.
From what I understand he has a good source for these cars, and I don't know but consignment sales might be an option there.

holy moley. Those pics are the reason I'll never do meth. I'm usually paranoid enough as it is. I can't imagine runnning around thinking everyone's after my stash. I've been off this site for a while, but when i saw this i had to make a comment, anyone who loves the evil dead series/Bubba Ho-tep..NEEDS to see "Man With the Screaming brain"
Bruce Campbells best work yet...

Hard to find movies that make you laugh this hard.

Sorry, I should have told you all. (I'm tired)
I had 2 potential customers in thew morning, and I'm pretty sure that 1 of them will by a GMC minivan. The second customer seems intrested in a really clean Tempo that needs a paint job, but I don't know if he can afford it. I hope that he can but since it's only $1,000 it's really no proffit.
Then I had a slow afternoon. Never saw a single customer and I jokingly told the boss when I went to lock the cars up that someone would pull up when I was done.
This joke backfired on me. When I was just about finished a customer pulled up.
I had to work about an extra hour learning how t fill in the paperwork.
It was worth it. (I'm guessing $200 - $300 commision)
I wish that there was more traffic, but I think that'll come with our new pricing.
Plus the boss is letting me orginize the lot tomorrow, which I believe will also help.
Thanks for all the advice everyone. It really helped!

Stu, if yall get a Silverado like in my sig, on your lot i'll trek up there! 2004 Chev Silverado 2500, power everything, lifted, and its either the 6.0L Turbo Diesel , or the 6.6L Turbo Diesel. (300 horsies is enough) Thats gotta be my next toy!
That commission deosn't seem bad, if you sell at least 2 cars a week. I dunno about B.C. but here cost of living here is a bitch. Like you said, the money is just extra income for now though.

We don't usually get any cars that new Mike, but I can sure request 1 if it becomes available.
My minumin monthly expenses are about $400.00, so I can practically live off nothing. (Everyhting that I own is paid for and my rent is $200.00 from a friend)
I've got some new contacts here, now that I've got the job. Where were the when I was looking?
I almost can't believe that I'm gettting paid a commision to sell someone a car that they've already fallen in love with. It's just to easy.
And the perks involved sure make it nice. I'm taking a Jag out for a while tomorrow. The battery needs to get charged, and I have to cruise the strip :grinno:
What a coincidence
Needless to say I love my job
blazerman, and Mike, I hope that you get what you want soon, and just don't turn into a disgruntal postal worker on us
I've probably had worst jobs.

I'm disgruntled, but not crazy (i hope). I'm not going to go around the store off-ing people. most of them have become good friends, after 4 years. Shawn can take care of my co-workers and I'll take care of his co-workers. Just kidding of course. I can never imagine ending someone elses life. This reminds me of a few years ago, this dude over here in Aurora, Colo did that at Chuck E Cheeses. Its such a crappy job, i'd walk out before it got that bad. and of course all those U.S. Postal employees going postal.
A little side note, after trying for 1 year to get back onto days, Checking, its finally happening 1st week of March. Night Crew has been too much for me. My boy Duane is also going into checking for the same reasons as me.
1. Too much senority,
Dale: 35 years
Mark: 30+ years
Jeff: (stinking mother fucker)29 years
Duane: 8 years
Me: 4 years
Al: 37years (frozen foods, but I work his department while he's got vacation
Colene: almost 29 years (General Merchandise/NON-foods) all of these people have 5 weeks each of vacation. well except me and Duane, he's got 3 weeks, and I've got 2 weeks.
Colene and Al take thiers together (married) but its still a lot of Vac Time.
2. Put together Mark and Jeff have half of a functioning brain. But somehow they are running the crew, ordering. and driving everyone crazy. These guys have strange habits/quirks that just make you go "HMMMMMM, are you retarded?" i better stop now, I just got my confrimation that I'm going to hell, Satan is picking me up personally, is that bad? Now thats First Class!
