96 maxima vs 03 altima 3.5L

Well i cant get anyone to race me.....so I might as well strive for something......but honestly I was being sarcastic because there was a earlier post saying this is the longest thread on AF or something like that. Oh well......so you wanna race or what?

You guys are quiet the group, I love that feeling of confidence I had in my maxima to, but when I had 4 cylinder integras beating me, that was a sad day.

I also have footage me racing my maxima vs a civic SI, civic SI beat me, he even had his gf in the car. Now I am not to good at seeing, but something tells me that the Maxima isnt a farkin bullet if a Civic Si beat it, and that was without NOS. Yes my car was %100 stock, and civic had bolt ons, but still a civic? If anyone knows how to put videos on to the computer with an Anolog camera let me know.

the only civic i ever lost to was my friends dx with a gsr engine and type r tranny. it made 176hp before his chip, intake and straight pipe no cat ,and weighed 2300 lbs. he beat me once out of 3 tries. I have never lost to an si. even before any of my mods i beat my other friends 99 si by like 3 cars when he had his intake.

i havent lost to any civics yet, but ive had a few integras give me quite and ass beating, they had a lot of mods done, so im sur that helped them. any 1 have the stats for an integra, that they will put on here instead of puttin that site on here so that i have to look it up

Even stillen quoted the 0-60 in the mid 7's and the time you quoted for an altima was for the Auto

Nissan automagic transmission sux.... I have looked at dyno sheets from the .org for the 4th gen autos and when they are stock, they put about the same HP as a 2.5L 5spd (looking at dyno sheets from b15sentra.net), maybe less .. So, its basically down to driver skillz. On a side note... my 5spd is faster than my wife's 3.5 Maxima SE autotragic..... :p Drivetrain loss is a b1tch!!!

Sometimes there are cases when a car with alot less power might beat the more powerful car. I used to have a 95 honda accord vtec with only a intake, and I would beat some cars that I had no business beating. So it's not impossible for that altima to beat that Maxima. I have a toyota avalon now and I raced a 95-96 maxima on the high-way and I thought he was going to bust my ass, but I ended up walking him down and pulling away. (Avalon 195hp + 210Torque).

There are so many factors when racing that it is really not worth posting. My Max was having major issues a month back. I dynoed the car and found out the car was running extremely lean. It put out a whooping 146HP @ 5200 RPM, at the point the mechanic shut her down because he noticed how lean the engine was and didn't want to damage it. So, any Honduhs could have beaten my car at that point.

And then there's the driver factor. Anybody who is into doing the 1/4 mile would know how every .01 sec counts in a race. So, a person who steps on the gas a second late would have a hard time catching up to the other. People have to understand that we are not driving fast cars here. Maxima, Altima, Sentra... Camry... don't matter... we are all slow (especially if you are auto). You want a fast car, buy a Supra or Corvette.

With that said... I love my Maxima. I've owned a 96 SE 5spd before this 2k Max GXE and I just purchased a 2k3 SE for the wife .. But I doubt I'll get the 6th gen Max.. Thinking about the WRX STi :)

Ok, so here is an even race, a 5 Speed Altima vs an 99 Automatic Prelude and the Altima wins. The prelude has 200hp where as the Altima only has 175hp.

So whatever bull shit you guys are thinking just because a maxima has 15 more horspower is bull shit.

real good dick. a prelude only makes 142 lbs of torque not 205. not to mention a 4 cylinder vs a 4 cylinder is a lot more even than a 6 vs a 4. no one's saying the max is faster stirictly due to hp. i'm claiming power to weight. you have less power and more weight.

Its not 205Hp, its 200hp, and dont bother to argue with me on this one, because an Auto prelude has hp reduction for the auto tranny, I think its even less then 200, something like 194.

So what, a S2000 only makes 158lbs or torque at the fly wheel, but I have yet to see you beat one.

Point is, the gearing in a 5 speed Altima is much better than an automatic Maxima period. You think I would have kept going for twenty two pages if I didnt think I was right.

I think the 03 Altima looks better and way newer than the 95-96 Maximas. If I could choose a 97-99 Maxima that would be my pick.
Since the Altima is more modern and has rear folding seats I pick it above the 96.

Yeah, the 97-99 has a much nicer front end and nicer tail lights, 95-96 was always a little old looking for me.

and as far as the s2000, a maxima doesn't make 120 hp per liter. not to mention an s2000 is an all out sports car not a 4 door sedan. it seems like the s2000 is your only argument. you act like an automatic tranny is gonna take away 50 hp.

so then fuck it. i'm gonna keep knowing in my head that a 4th gen max is faster even if it is auto, until i see substantial proof otherwise. my thinking was that I beat the 2.5 that i raced by so much that i could've piled 4 of my friends in the backseat and done it all day long(i already had one passenger in the front, and the other dude was solo). If you had an SE-R sentra and said you'd beat an auto 4th gen maxima i'd say "it's possible, maybe even probable." but i can't see you beating one in an altima.

Amen, I'm with you all the way, if you look at my post to Nick's replies, I never cussed, cursed or use profane language towards him and he's not even a Maxima owner any longer but yet he curses or cusses everybody.

Nick, you are a guest like everyone us, the difference here is that you have an Altima and we own Maximas so that makes you more of a guest than us, at least try to respect that, even if you don't respect us or the Maxima.

As far as this racing stuff, it needs to happen just to shut you up, if I were in Cali, I'd drive out on the weekend with my video camera and raced you just to have this thread end.

My 175HP vs a 190 HP automatic Maxima, my car has won two times vs a 4th gen maxima. I have my cousin who admits to it as well.

So here it is, my gearing is much shorter and I can run through my gears much faster then an automatic Maxima weighing at the same weight.

Therefore my 175hp car can beat a 190hp car and thats basically it, if you guys can post somethign that will make me think differently, well good luck.

but a maxima's extra torque is gonna help it propel through the gears faster and it will come out of each gear at higher speeds

My Maxima hit 40mph in first, 80 in second and I hit 130mph in 4th.

My altima does 30mph each gear. I have 181lbs of torque and better gearing, so, I can pull 30mph faster in each gear then the Maxima can pull 40.

First off, I came in here telling that guy good luck at beating a V6 Altima just because they run low low 14's and some guy is running high 13's, and that 13 second 1/4 was witnessed by a guy at Maxima.org, just go ask in the west coast section, he did it up in Sacramento, that was just an intake and mufflers.

So first of all, I came in here to offer some advice and knowledge as to what he could due beat a V6 Altima. I also said if he has an automatic, he is going to need a lot of mods because my car can beat a 4th Gen Maxima Automatic. But obviosly you can get much bigger power gains out of a V6 motor.

So now I see everyone is tired of this thread and doesnt care, but I will keep going until I get it on video,.

I must admit, I watch this thread more than any other... because its kinda like a car accident on the freeway... its probably just something lame but you just can't help but take a peek. This arguement is pretty lame, but funny though. I don't understand why people would even say "Race" and "Automatic" in the same sentence... Its like an oxymoron. People don't buy automagic cars to race. Grandma drives an automagic... My wife drives an automagic (man did I try to teach her to drive a manual so I could buy the 6spd) ... REAL drivers drive a manual. I don't believe people argueing for the automatic truely understand how beneficial driving a manual can be. Understand what drivetrain loss is and what power to weight ratio is... and you'll begin to see why Nick has a valid arguement. Then we can get into gear ratio and shift points. Then you'll see Nick has a damn good arguement. See, I actually did some research after I started reading up on this thread instead of making a bunch of ASSumptions.

I guess I'm not a "Real Driver" as you put it because I drive an automatic, he may have a point with his stick but you can't even begin to compare a 2.5 4 cylinder vs a 3.0L V6 with over 222hp and an intake, I've posted his 0-60 times for the 2.5 Altima and it stated 9.5/9.6 seconds to 60, there's no way in hell he'll beat a Max without running turbo/sc/nitrous, I don't care if he does have a stick.

A stick will not make up a greater than 2 second differential to 60 mph no matter how well you shift. You just come on to this thread and jumped on Nick's bandwagon, you should recognize that not only is he disrespectful to people he is also overrating his 2.5 4cylinder and his 5spd.

Now unless there's some kinda secret you or Nick knows that is going to allow a 2.5 4cyl to make up a -2 second difference in 0-60 on a 6cyl Max regardless of whether it is an auto (granny, wimps or whatever you want to be disrespectful to us also) you explain that difference.

Regardless the both of you act as though it takes 2 years for an auto to shift, it doesn't, there are also things such as torque braking and manual shifting on an auto which will near equalize the difference in the time it will take you to shift a manual. So I guess you and Nick must be the only ones who know something none of the other 100 members on this forum knows about a lil 5spd Altima being able to beat a Maxima just because it has an automagic:rolleyes:

you guys swear I need a turbo to beat a car with 222hp, I only raced my buddy in first gear and he had traction control on and I pulled away form him and just smoked him. He even says it himself, your Altima is faster then my dads Maxima. I have yet to race another one, so until then I think what I think.

Man your cars look good in your sig, I was trying to get a Max in that silver/pebble biege type color, makes it look really sharp. Also that color is good at hiding dirt.


I dont really like 4 cylinder engines myself, I like the V6, but because it was too expensive for insurance and the car in general was a lot more expensive, so I just got what I could and got a 5 speed because I regret having an auto Maxima that was plain slow.

I was under the impression that it was a 4th gen Max auto vs a 3rd gen Alti 2.5 5spd. The 5th gen auto is a mid 7 sec car and does the 1/4 mile in the mid 15s under optimal conditions. Now... back to the 4th gen... 190hp at the crank translate to 152hp at the wheels for an auto under optimal condition. This is with a 20% drivetrain loss which is very optimistic. I think it is more like 25%. Here's a modded auto Max w/ Place Racing Cold Air Intake, Stillen Catback and 18" Konig Monsoon (http://photos.imageevent.com/1max2nv/timeslips//31max2nv_cai_catback.jpg). I don't even know if this is an auto or manual (http://www.brian1.net/maxima/95maximadynotest.jpg)

Now, with the manual 2.5L we are looking at 175hp at the crank and 148hp at the wheel. This is with a 15% drivetrain loss which is also very optimisitic.. Most dyno at about 144hp at the wheel stock. Dyno sheets are @ B15sentra.net and click on "dyno graph" from the main menu.

This proves that hp wise, a 4th gen auto Max has nothing on a 3rd gen 5spd Alti. If you call this "Jumping on the bandwagon", I call this "THE FACTS".

Next we have gear ratios! hehe But I'll save that for later :D

I don't think Nick was disrespecting people because he only stated that he beat a 97 GLE auto before he was flamed. And I don't think he was overrating his Altima because my mom just bought herself a 03' Sentra 2.5 LE and that thing pulls hard. Yes it is an auto. Those 2.5s have continuous valve timing just like the 3.5s. The torque on those things are freakin incredible during normal driving! The 3.0 V6 is outdated... I'm either going boost or getting a new car.... Leaning toward boost because I love my Max :p
