96 maxima vs 03 altima 3.5L

My Maxima was faster then my Cousins 96, I beat him consistantly, he thought I did a seceret mod, but my car was just lighter. 97 Gle, no sun roof, abs spoiler or fog lights, his had all that + glass head lamps and wood dash interior....I WON :D

My first nissan was a "datsun" B210. I could cut holes in the floorboards and Fred Flintstone that thing faster than a 2.5 Altima.

My second Nissan was a 310 hatchback that I wrapped around a tree. I could push that thing to the shop with broken ribs and a concussion faster than a 2.5 Altima.

My third Nissan was a Sentra Se-R. I could take a 2.5 Altima in reverse with that car.

The crack down where you live must be the best!!! Send me some so I can go over to the corvette forums and tell them all how my 2k2 blows the 405s off the road.

I wasnt sleeping, he was 5 speed and I was 5 speed, he just had a better third gear then I did. It was a planned race, I couldnt believe a VW beat me either.


As for admitting bad drivers, I can do that, since it takes absolutley no skill to drive an automatic, well, skill of holding brake and gas at same time, but I still outlaunched them so I dont even know if that matters, So i am faster then even a proprly driven auto...

Just because you beat one Max :rolleyes: doesn't mean that you'll be able to beat all of them, everyone gives you your props for winning those races but now you think because you beat one that you'll beat all.

There are auto Max's dynoing around 183 to 187 whp, so maybe the one you raced had the typical 25% loss because it was auto which means it was probably dynoing around 160, like I said not all of them are the same.

Now quit talking about beating only one Max when there are others out there that will hand you your @$$. You must have the one rare Altima that will be able to beat a Max but the other 99% of Altimas will lose to any Max on any given day.

No, my motor is a piece of shit, it wasnt broken in properly and I only get 22 mpg MAX when I shift below 3000rpm on every shift, its pathetic, and that includes freeway driving.

I beat 4 Maximas, so I feel I can pretty much beat any 4th gen VQ30 with an Auto tranny with just Intake. The races between me and a max are close enough that if they have a good enough exhaust, the will pull on me. So I am not going around smoking every maxima, all takes on a Maxima is a 5 speed and they own me, I have said this about 10x now, but MY FIRST post was only to let Dave know that his 4th Gen needs a lot of mods to beat a V6 Altima ^^^ read the title, now that is a joke, thats a 14 second car stock vs a 15 second car stock, he never mentioned having nitrous. Now all my post said was he needs some good bolt ons to take on a V6 Altima because I have beaten a few Maximas in my 4 cylinder Altima. Notice I never said I beat every Maxima or I beat corvettes nor do I smoke crack. I have lost to a Maxima and it was an Auto, VQ35 though, very fast, just as fast as an Auto V6 Altima I raced, which, if I can beat a VQ30, according to the original post, then no way in hell does the Auto Max stand a chance against the Auto or 5 Speed V6 Altima. Witht his said, I am still going to get a bs called on me for beating a car with 15 more horsepower that weighs the same, but weight and size dont matter all the time because I can compare cars that weigh more and are still faster with less horsepower. First of all, you must be the most ignorant newbie I have met. I dont even know how to flame you, cussing wouldnt do any justice for me to say what I think about your lack of intellgence. I dont know if its the simple fact you do not know how to read, but you must be brain dead in 1 way or another. Beat any Max on the road is a little more then I claimed, so...nothing more I can say....




The Vw I raced was like a 2001, newer body style, only 5 speed I think, I know it was stick because he said it, but didnt say if it was 5 or 6 gears.

MaximusGTR is running nitrous otherwise he would list his mods :rolleyes:

hey i know that i'am 2 pages late but i beat the first few altimas without nos, just intake and exhaust, now on the other hand my car stock with a bullet tranny will out shift your 5speed so don't say you can beat all auto maximas :)

2001 vr6 jetta 174 horse/3144 lbs = .055 hp/lb
2002 vr6 jetta same
2003 vr6 jetta 200/3274 = .611 hp/lb

The "max beater" altima 175hp/3100 lbs = .0564 hp/lb.

The 2003 jetta wins on paper and on the street. The 2001 jetta vs the 2.5 altima is too close to call.

My guess is you ran into a driver that was better than you.

Ironically the 97 maxs you beat routinely are 190 hp/3097 lbs = .0613 hp/lb - faster than even the 2003 vr6s.

Again I never cried about you beating a Max or 4 as you claim, I gave you your props but the only thing you keep leaving out, forget about the weight issue or your stick to auto that really doesn't mean anything when you add up the fact that your car's peak torque doesn't hit until 4400 and it is only 175 stock not factoring in drivetrain loss of 25% whereas the stock more powerful Max with weight that is similar to yours reaches its' peak torque at 4000 rpm and it is more on the higher side of your numbers the Max in that version 97 is around 190 or so you can factor in the drivetrain if you wish, also a 5thgen 2k/2k1 is around 214tq and it does reaches its' peak tq at 4000 as well.

Regardless of your ability to shift your so called shorter gearing the fact remains that torque and more of it in a car that is similar in weight to your's will eat you 9 out of 10 times, so maybe you got lucky and was able to beat a Max or 2 one out of the 10 times, that doesn't mean that you'll do it consistently. Also factor in that the driver of the other car may not be as good as you in putting that power to the ground, so when all things being equal as in the driver's ability to do such, you will get your @$$ handed to you the other 9 out of those 10 times.

No one is WORRIED as you put it and your so called 80% is in no way representative of what you would do against the other Max's out there. I'm talking every other Max on the road, not just the 4 you claimed to race and beat. Besides that you never mentioned you supposedly beat a 255hp Max in a 175hp Altima<this I really don't believe.

All of that other mumbo jumbo about your so called proper gearing is a moot point because as I have said before you cannot make up the difference in the actual numbers people get on their car as opposed to those you get on your car.

A 255hp Max runs 0-60 in 6 flat or less, you are trying to tell everyone here that your car ran faster than that, please.

Every test on a 2k2/2k3 Max shows consistent 6's and there are no Altima 2.5's running anywhere near that number on 4 cylinders, I don't even believe that Turbo and N20 will help your car run those kinda numbers, sorry I don't believe anyone else here will believe that either.

I still give you your props if you say you beat a 2k2/2k3 but that would have to be on video to get a solid thumbs up from any of us on this board. Go post your story on the org., I guarantee someone will rip you a new one, you may even get banned.

Ok, see I dont lack common sense, I know a car with 255hp can beat me for sure, well not all of them, but most of them trucks, suvs and a 300M are the exception. But I dont think 15hp and the 25lbs in torque make the VQ30 that much better then my car, if both have 5 speed trannies with same gearin and same car weight, the VQ will own me, but while my car is light and geared good, I can pretty much Take out the VQ30 equipped cars that have an auto tranny putting power to the floor, thats all I know. I saw a maxima today I tried to catch up, but got stuck at the light and he was turning into an industrial street so couldnt have raced there, it was nice, 17 inch motegi/katana/konig tantrum looking rim and lowered with blue, think it was an auto, but i hit the light and he couldnt pull up next to him.

I should go on the org and see if any so-cal guys want to race, but I like the guys on the .org, so dont know if its worth arguing over.

You keep talking about your gearing like it's supposed to make all of the difference in the world, like an auto doesn't move at all. That is the common sense in this thread, the auto VQ30 does have advantages over your engine and make that a point to you, it has advantages.

Not that it is better, in fact it is better than your engine, just ask Ward's Ten Best Engine List 9 years in a row. You are pointing out your so called only advantages being shorter gearing and weight but even with all of those so called advantages the Max still has faster times tested by any Magazine or track for a 2.5 Altima

Talk about your disadvantages, your car is slower period and yest 25 pftq will own you and so will it's 15 hp advantage, in other words you'd have to add a y-pipe and an intake to make up that difference in power.

Weight again isn't a factor because the VQ has more than enough torque to pull its' weight to 7.0 in an auto, I know for a fact that an Altima 2.5 can't pull those numbers without using Turbo/N20/or SC.

Take Maximus to the track and you'll get owned, I guarantee it, I'll put my money on Maximus' Maxima, if he driving skills are equal (start practicing Maximus).

Anyway, I was never saying that you didn't beat a Max or a couple of them, I just don't think your cousin knew how to put down an auto Max's power. I wish I had moved to Irvine as planned, I would've handed you your @$$ by now and ended this ridiculous thread 50 pages ago.

Once again, you are not understanding. My cousin drives just as good as me, I taught him...but once you press the acclerator on an automatic car it takes no skill. I dont think you realize that, does your automatic have a clutch that you push in each time at a certain point to make it go faster then a 5 speed Maxima? NO, so you are confusing skill with this, it takes NOOOOOOOOO skill.

I got my ass handed to me by GSRs all the time in my Maxima, my friend had a CAI and he beat my AUtomatic Maxima, it was pathetic, we raced numerous times, each time I had a new excuse...but he owned me every time....I would take him off the line till about 60mph, then third gear for him came and he just said BYE BYE, he even beat me with a passenger. When racing a GS-T Spyder and winning....that felt good as well and would make me think my car is great....but someimtes....the Maxima loses.....and a few of those times....other peoples Maximas lost to me. If I had my damn street races on Hi-8 I would post my Maxima being properly driven and having a Civic Si beating me, and the guy even had his gilfriend in the car. Obviously a lot more modded then my stock Maxipad.....but oh well. So do you guys with automatic Maximas think you can beat GSR's and a 5 speed prelude...or a handful of other cars that gave my maxima/altima a run for their money?

Nissan autos are slow... it has to do with gear ratios more than anything else. Stevevtec or whatever his nick is on the .org ran a simulation comparing the 6th gen 6spd to the 5spd auto and to the 4spd auto... The 5spd auto does the 0-60 run in like 6.05? sec... and the 4spd auto does it in 7.1 sec... the 6spd manual does it in the 5s. So, not only do you have to contend with the drivetrain loss, you also have to deal with the fact the car is only a 4spd. Solution, get a 3.5 VQ... I have no problem spinning the tires with my automagic.. ;)

I dont think you realize that, does your automatic have a clutch that you push in each time at a certain point to make it go faster then a 5 speed Maxima? I got my ass handed to me by GSRs all the time in my Maxima, my friend had a CAI and he beat my AUtomatic Maxima, it was pathetic, we raced numerous times, each time I had a new excuse...but he owned me every time....I would take him off the line till about 60mph, then third gear for him came and he just said BYE BYE, he even beat me with a passenger. nismo what size are your wheels? they llok good. yea my 96 max was an auto and it was a little sluggish. thats why i luv m,y 5 speed in my 99.:D

Yeah, my car will be more sluggish, I am putting some 18 inch HP racing rims on it soon, but it wont be anywhere as sluggish as a 97 GLE Maxima ;)

nick thats what im getting some 18" . perfect combo wont slow me down to much as to the 19":D

FYI I don't think I can beat a GSR, I already have smoked a GSR so "Whatchu talkin bout Willis", anywho gearing isn't everything you think I'd just be sitting there while you're revving away in your stick, plaleeze, geta grip Chip. Hondas are torqueless wonders, no bottom end and it takes too long for the GSR to get going by the time he does I'm already up into higher speeds where my VI goes to work.

N-Ewayz, back to your reasoning, there's at best a difference in your shift vs an auto 0.8 of sec if that, so while your lower torqued car with its' smaller 2.5 engine which takes longer to reach its' torque peak is revving and shifting I'll be torquebraking and I will get into my torque's powerband quicker, which btw did I mention more than your's.

You just don't get it, you make it sound as though there's 2 or more seconds in the time it takes the auto to shift vs you shifting manually, it isn't that much of a difference trust me on that. I raced my friends 2k1 5spd and he was only able to beat me by less than half a car, I was at his right rear door the entire race.

Your car doesn't carry enough horses or torque to deal with a 222hp V6 with intake, you'll get owned trust me on that son.

They are 18" Dronell D-06 2 piece forged rim. But right now I have my 15" steelies on because of the freakin weather... Its actually raining in SoCal. :(
