Its time for another wonderful update and some new pictures!!!

Ok, so first things first. The machine shop still has the motor, which they have had for almost 2 months now. "Supposedly" I am supposed to be getting it back next week sometime, but we will see about that. I ended up having to get the head machined for the stainless oversized valves I picked up for it dirt ass cheap. 100 bucks for a whole set. I was quite happy about that, so I figured ah what the hell... Got the last few little things I think that I need... Shit, I take that back. Still gotta get a timing belt cover... Damn those things are expensive.

I ended up selling my MAF Translator for my buddy for his 2g since I was in no rush for needing it and now I'll be getting the Gen2 MAF Translator instead. I have high hopes for it.

I finally... Oh my gosh, whoever the hell said swapping to non-antilock brakes was easy is a damn liar. I finally got all my new prebent brake lines and shit put in tonight. Never again will I do something like that. 3 of the lines have to run under the steering shaft near the cross member. It gives you like 1/2 inch to try and turn and twist all the lines through, and then you run into your strut tower! It was the biggest pain in the ass so far at this point in time... Anyways... Non-antilock brake conversion is completed...

I got the strut towers all grinded down where we welded in the new pieces and I ended up mixing up some JB weld and used it like a body filler to smooth everything out and make it perfect. Sanded it all down and painted it all up flat black. Turns out you can barely tell anything was done to the strut towers. If you look very closely on the edges you can tell something happened there, but you can't tell what. And you don't even notice it unless you know what was done to them. So now the whole motorbay is flat black, but I ran out of flat black tonight so its not perfect. I have one spot I gotta do still and I need to go back over it all with one more coat to hide all the red paint.

I went through with it and dyed my carpet instead of shelling out the money for new carpet. I can honestly say that dying old carpet is the way to go no matter what. My old carpet was that ugly bluish grey color and had a zillion stains and such in it. Now they are pretty much flawless black. I even did the OEM floormats that were completely ruined because of stains I thought. They look like I went out and bought brand new ones now. So I dyed all my carpet and got it back in the car.

I also have pretty much completed converting things over to black for my interior. I spent tonight putting most of it back together and wiring everything back up. The only thing I haven't done yet is my OEM leather seats. I am a little nervous about dying them. I have this fear that the pores in the leather will sweat out the dye in the summertime. So for right now I am leaving the seats grey. My alternative might end up being black leather seats from a 2000+ Eclipse as they are nearly the same bolt pattern... If they are, then that'll be the route I end up going. If not, then I donno yet... This one is still up in the air...

The shifter... Ahh the glorious B&M short throw shifter... Did you guys know that with a little altering to the B&M, you can make it a ridiculously short throw? It also lowers the actual height a little bit too so it doesn't look so gay sticking up there like no ones business. Anyways... Had my buddy do some cutting and welding on it for me and now the throw is awesome. I can't wait to get the motor and tranny back in to test it out. If it worked how I think it did, the top of the shift knob in the centers throw from 1st to 2nd is only 2 inches... Its gonna be awesome...

But anyways... Now... For the moment everybody loves... Pictures... lol

Enjoy.

No, why would it? All it is is like a paint. Which, I didn't undercoat it. I did paint it flat black.

It was supposed to be 1/1/07 but since the machine shop was dragging their feet I figured there was no rush on my part. lol Now I am hoping to have it done by Valentines day... That way I can make love to my car since I'm single. lol

Well, all the necessary accessories are back on the firewall and everything has been repainted under the hood as well... Brake lines are all done and new and I have even run a little bit of the wiring harness along the top under where all the sensors used to be... I also embarked on something I was unsure of then... I test dyed my friends old leather seats and it actually works how I hoped it would. So I dyed my back seat and it turned out awesome until I ran out of dye. So the bottom portion is done anyways. I will be dying my front seats for sure now too... I also started tearing apart my headliner and ripping off all the old fabric to redo it black. It should be done by the end of the week if I can find some more time to work on it... Its getting so close I can almost taste it... Now all I need to do is get my motor back and this little project will be moving right along. :)

**EDIT**
I will try to get some more pics of it in a few days. I know how much you guys love pictures.

Alrighty, well today was a great day of accomplishments...

First off, all my damn machine work is done. Lemme tell ya, it better be worth the money I have in it. Turned out to be almost a grand worth of machining on this motor. Bored, decked, valve job, crank lightened, entire motor balanced. Now with my setup, all the components to this motor is good for either 600hp or 10k rpms... Whichever I exceed first. Which excites me. It opens up a lot of possibilities for the future of whatever I wish to do to my setup... I should have it back here then next week when I'm off work.

Second off, due to the success of the dying, I continued on with it today. Now all the leather seats are dyed and they look simply amazing. I scratched on them and sat in them and nothing came off. So I know for a fact that is actually soaked up the dye rather than being just a paint or something.

Anyways, the only thing I have left on the interior is to finish wiring up my guages, shift light, and turbo timer, and put my lower dash back on... The car is looking amazing. Pictures cannot do it justice to real life. (Stupid flash...)

So here are the pictures that I know you all are craving so bad. Seats before and after and interior shots... Enjoy.

Holy shit, that came out fuckin nice!! I love the seats, I may have to do that to mine now!! The only thing that worries me about dying the leather isn't it flaking off, I'm scared that it will dry the seats out much much faster and cause the leather to crack. But shit, as much as I'm gonna drive my Talon, it'll be 10 years before they see enough use to crack.

How about a write-up on them seats 'eh? :naughty:

The complete gasket kit runs about 150 bucks, the weisco pistons were about 450, and the fp2 cams were about 400...

Just as an added update, I am actually gonna have the motor back tomorrow and start putting it back in the car hopefully. :)

 I didn't even think of the hat being in the picture...

Don't worry, that is definetly not the valve cover thats going on it... I got something sweet coming... Hehe...

So far I had some complications... A nice bolt broken off in the block that the machine shop never took out. Unfortunatly I needed the hole for the carrier bearing... Or so I thought... After spending some time on it trying to get it out and pretty much screwing up that hole, it was figured out that I could avoid using that hole. I never gave it any thought that there is a bracket underneath the AC compressor that the carrier bearing also bolts to. The bracket has 3 of the 4 holes to bolt down and both of my carrier bearing bolts can go in just fine now...

So... Tomorrow morning I will be cleaning many parts/accessories and prepping them to be put on the motor. I am currently ordering my new timing belt cover, injectors, and pump and I should be good... This weekend... Oh buddy... I'm off from work and I'm gonna have that thing in and moving right along. I still have to wire up my gauges (procrastinator) and rewire the CAS and put in my fuel pump... Uhh... I'm sure theres many other little details I will forget about as I go on...

So thats about it for tonight.

I also realized that the guy who assembled it put the 6 bolt motor mount on it again, so you know what that means... My ass has to take all the timing off again just to change that shit. I'm about sick of running into problems, I just wanna drop it in! :(

Another little update for the day here...

I'm not a happy camper at all... My weekend excursion is now delayed as I have to order a new pressure plate... I also have this other problem that I need to get opinions on...

Ok, first off, for anybody else putting a 6 bolt into a 2g. You have to modify the 2g motor mount on the timing belt side a bit...

http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/61.jpg

As you can see, the 2g one is on the left and the 1g one is on the right... The red line represents what I had to grind off in order to clear the water pump on a 6 bolt motor...

http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/62.jpg

I just threw that one in there for the heck of it... Timing belts are oh so much fun...

Ok, here is what I need help with... I have a bolt broken off in my crossmember. Problem is, I can't drill it out cause there is a thin tab welded to the underside of the crossmember with a nut welded to that... Well I went to tap it with a center punch so I could drill it out and I broke the welds to the stupid little thin piece... So now it kinda bends down and under whenever ya put too much pressure on it...

So I'm thinking... Will I be ok to just use 2 bolts in my motor mount there? I mean, I really don't wanna drop all my steering components and shit just for that one stupid bolt. I figure there is gonna be a bolt on either side of the motor mount already, but I'm wondering if it'll actually be safe without using that one... I circled the broken one in red in the picture below...

http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/63.jpg

Opinions? I sure could use some help on this one... :(

**EDIT**
I almost forgot... Will I be able to mix my competition clutch disc with something else like an ACT pressure plate or not?

**DOUBLE EDIT**
lol, I bet this is the first double edit ever... Anyways... I have good news... The pressure plate was found in a scrap pile at this other guys house. lol It was pretty funny, I was like holy shit thats my pressure plate! And of course its covered in rust, so I have to do a little work on it... Don't worry I'll take a picture of it. Its pretty funny... Oh and I also figured out what to do with the motor mount... Taking the lower half and bolting it down and welding the whole thing to the crossmember now. lol It'll work... I think...

Blackcrow64
04-02-2007, 01:03 AM
So another day has come and gone and I have spent another 9 hours with my car today...

Things would be going so much smoother if I didn't have to tear the old 7 bolt apart as I go for bolts and brackets. lol

So I'm just gonna get to it and post up all the pictures that everyone is eager to see... I almost got to drop the motor and tranny in tonight but ran out of energy and got frustrated with trying to put the tranny on by myself...

So here is the pressure plate after it was found... I sanded the surface rust off already at this point before I took a picture...
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/64.jpg

And after...
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/65.jpg

It was in pretty rough shape...
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/66.jpg

But I was able to resurface it and save it... I think...
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/67.jpg

The 1g timing belt covers can be used with minimal cutting... Most people hack off a ton but I was able to do it like this... The red lines show where I cut it out...
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/68.jpg

I decided to give this a quickie... I grinded off the ribs and polished it somewhat. I coulda done better but I am only gonna run that intake this summer, so yeah...
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/69.jpg

Anybody else with a 6 bolt swap run into this? My power steering doesn't line up with anything else and I can't remember what belts run off what on a 2g... Anybody wanna help me out with this one? Do I have to run a 1g power steering pump or somethin?
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/70.jpg

As it sets while I sleep...
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/71.jpg

Again...

And again...
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/73.jpg

From this angle you can almost pretend its in the car already. lol
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/74.jpg

Thats all I have from today... It feels like its moving along so slowly but at the same time it feels like I'm going so fast... I have no clue what speed I'm actually moving at anymore. lol

Ok so I decided to call off work tonight just so I could continue working on this thing... Needless to say I'm exhausted... I've spent about 18 hours on this thing since last night...

Ok here is the progress...

I figured out that I was missing a pully that went under the one pully on the water pump and that solved my alignment issue...
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/75.jpg

I got the tranny mounted on it before I put it in... I was curious as to if it was really as hard as everyone says...
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/76.jpg

Got it up there and almost tipped the whole hoist cause I forgot to put the legs out further. :banghead:
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/77.jpg

After a long time of angling it and lining things up I finally got it in...
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/78.jpg

Ahhh It looks so nice now... The hardest part is past... Now all I have left is wiring, some sensors/thermostat housing stuff, fuel, and IC piping...
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/79.jpg

And this is what caused me to call it quits tonight...
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/talon/80.jpg

I was all done with the air gun and I was winding up the hose in this thing. For the people who don't know, this is spring loaded so it automatically winds the hose up when you give it a tug... They need a warning sticker on it... Warning: Do not straddle hose while winding up... Imagine this... Hose is winding up at full speed and I have one hand on it guiding it in and the other end is just flipping and flopping the kinks out as it winds up... With the last 3 feet or so It totally flipped straight up and the rubber stopper junk shotted me so hard that I almost blacked out and almost threw up in the garage... So I decided to come ice my nuts and post this... :frown:

Hope ya'll are enjoying this...
