Ok... Update time...
I want you all to know that I have gone the last 5 days with about a total of 8 hours of sleep... Right now I am dead... I am so ready to collapse until my next shift at work tonight... Anywho... The reason I lacked on sleep was due to an interesting combination... DSM time, party time, work... Everyday...
I spent the last 2 days working on the Talon up until the moment I had to go party or go to work... I made a ton of progress...
I'm sure your all wondering what sparked this little motivation... I'll tell you what did it. Riding in my buddies stock Spyder GST the other day. First DSM I've been in since early summer... It gave me some major wood and gave me the motivation I needed to get this beast running!
So here is whats going down... I changed a few things... Cruise control is back in the picture. I couldn't track down the right non-cruise throttle cable for it and finally gave up. I am going from a 1g TB to a 2g TB because I can't get my TPS to fit the 1g TB and the fact that I was just pissed off about it. No more mounting the AFC in the sunvisor like I had planned. I got the piece all made for it and then it wouldn't stay up because of the weight and the fact that the pivot piece was a wore out piece of shit. So I scrapped that idea and am just mounting it in the glovebox for now... The headliner is still out of the car and unfinished... I am not putting my oil cooler in right now. I am just gonna loop it and save that for a later project...
Now for something interesting that I didn't mention before... Well... Maybe I did. I can't remember right now... Because of the different loop header I went with that shifted the entire turbo housing to the passenger side a few inches, the upper radiator line needed to be moved. The stock radiator has it placed in the center, while a non-turbo radiator has it placed to the passenger side. Sweet, so I bought a brand new non-turbo radiator for a good price online. Got it and realized that it not only relocates the top radiator line, but it also moves the lower line to the drivers side. Well fuck me sideways... So now I had to do something about that. We came up with a better solution that solves everything and gives me more room to play with the turbo intake pipe we need to make... We modified the stock water pipe on the block. Blocked off the stock lower line inlet on the pipe and cut a hole in the drivers side of it and ran a line straight down. Used a curved piece of stock line and ran it straight into the new lower location. It worked out sweet...
Now for the fuel pump sending unit... It was so corroded when I was taking it out that the one fitting wouldn't turn and instead twisted the line off on top of the sending unit. Well, my friend took it with him to work today to see if he can clean up the lines and weld it back together. If not, then it'll be getting a new fitting welded right off the top of the unit with a 90 on it... Then I will have to adapt it to fit the old line. Not a huge deal... Once that is back, I can put the fuel pump and such back in and that'll be done.
I have my oil feed and return lines for the turbo and just need to put them on. Shouldn't take very long to do that...
I need to make a different mount for the coil packs to get them kind of close to the stock location and that'll be good to go.
I need to connect a few more wires here and there and run my vacuum lines and it should be ready for start up... :)
And you guys all thought it would never run again... Perhaps this weekend the beast will be awakened...
**EDIT**
Oh yeah... And you guys are gonna like how the entire motor and everything looks... Just think... Evo...

Holidays = Busy and sucks
I have some pictures, but I'm waiting on something else to get here before I take some more and post them up for you guys...
I have been busy making my own brackets and such from scratch. It's actually making some of this a lot easier than it could be. I need to pull my TB back off and polish it all up too now that I know this one is gonna work unlike the last one I tried. That pissed me off a lot...
Oh yeah, I remember what I need. Does anybody have a wrecked 2g or parts 2g that has an extra mounting bracket for the brake fluid reservoir? I need one thats not all rusted up and ruined... Mine broke when I took it off and I forgot about that until I went to mount it back up. :(

No, actually only since the 20th... I made a post about being busy with the holidays and stuff. I haven't touched it since then... I have some pictures but didn't wanna post them because I wanted to get a few more things done before posting even newer ones... I might work on it sometime here this weekend... Or next weekend... I have a 7 day stretch of work that is gonna drain all my energy. :(

I know...
I just spent 9 hours on the Talon guys... I made a lot of progress...
And I am uploading pics right now... I might have time to get them up before I have to go back to work... I haven't slept yet. I am going on 24 hours of being awake and I have to work again tonight and into tomorrow... I am gonna die if I don't get a little bit of sleep here. That is why I might not get them online tonight... But tomorrow for sure.

Just so you all know, the rust is still at the point where I can rub it off with my fingers. Kind of like a rust powder... That is why I'm not overly concerned with it right now. I will sand down the whole bottom and undercoat the entire thing after it is running... Or I might try using that rubberized bed liner spray also. I figure it might help with road noise and will hold up better than a typical undercoating...
The next set of pictures will be the whole thing finished and running!
And the motor bay will actually be cleaned up too... It looks pretty icky to me right now... Lots of dust and grime... Things need more polishing!
Oh yeah, I totally forgot to mention that I got a dremel for Christmas too... Got a whole box of accessories with it too. Now I can polish even the hardest to reach spots... Can we say polished TB? lol

Oh I won't have to take anything apart to work on the underside...
The Dremel is one of the nicer models... I forget which one it was, I threw the box out already and threw it all in the toolbox. :uhoh: I used it some yesterday and I was surprised how nicely that little thing worked... Although I had a hard getting in some angles like I could with the die grinder... I have either or depending on what kind of project I decide to get myself into. :p

So you're oging to etract all the rust and apply a undercoat searler with the exhasut intact and susupension bolted up?
Extremem waste of time IMO, that's like a doctor firing a shot only at the center of a cancer pollup thinking he'll get it all. :nono:

No... I'm gonna focus on floor pans and things like that for the most part... My suspension isn't rusting up yet. If it starts to though, I'll just tear it all apart and then I'll work on it. Not to mention upgrade the entire suspension around the car too.
It's all about order and having a reason to replace things. lol :icon16:

exactamundo! :grinyes:
unibody + rust + performance powertrain = extreme body flex. Albeit, yes I realize that it's a AWD so flex won't be as bad as a RWD, but none the less.
I'm just saying, if you're going to do it, do it right the first time so you don't have to undo your haste the second. This comes form experience, unless my AMC's floor is replaced by June 1st, she won't see the open roads for yet another year. :disappoin

It's only been a year and a half... I don't think that is too unreasonable for having a car completely built in every aspect and not owing a penny on it at this point. :dunno:
Let's not forget that I didn't even get my motor back from the machine shop until February I think it was... So I am just about to break a year on it from that point on. lol

Well, i aint gonna talk any shit to you. Good project takes time. No need to rush stuff like that. Take your time and do it right, and do it once. Plus you've got a kagillion dollars in it....takes time to earn that much money...
So just keep doing your thing brian. But yea I'm ready to see it finished though.

I had to move the Talon off the pit today and to a new spot in the shop... I hate it when I have to move the entire project from one bay to another on a moments notice... :banghead:
On a good note, its starting to look like a car again... I hope to get a lot more accomplished tomorrow on it... :)

Shit... So, I got a lot done today but I am in need of something...
Does anybody happen to have a spare exhaust manifold to turbo gasket?... For a t-25... Yeah, I totally don't have one and I need it because my turbo uses the same flange as the t-25... :(
Once I have that gasket, I can pull it off, slap it in, and reconnect all of that for the final time. All that is left is to get some water pipe to heater core lines, connect my oil feed and return lines for the turbo, mount my coil pack, find a return line for my fuel rail, and connect my gauge wires to their sensors, put my crossmember back on... Then it's time for zoom zoom.
I think... :uhoh:

You're going to run a used turbo for the break in period aren't you? I wouldn't run you're good one for sure, maybe pick up a shitty t-25 for a couple bucks if you can.

I have an extra oil filter before my turbo feed line, so I'm hoping I can just change the filter after the break in period... I don't have an extra turbo for the break in period and don't necessarily think I need to run a different one...

I would dude. If you have one of those inline filters in your feed line then you might be ok, but I dont think I would risk it all the same. A shitty 14b shouldnt run you much, I would for sure do that if I were you....
