Ordered a new aftermarket oil pan and intake manifold... Also am winning an auction for a new set of wheels and tires... Hopefully I win it. I need to ditch these stockers...

Why a new pan? And what intake? Magnus? And yay for new rollers. Stock is dook

The old pan had a crack and several dents in it. My buddy welded it for me and we thought it would be ok. It is still leaking pretty good though so I was done messing around. Bought a nice new one that also holds more oil in the sump when I'm running it hard. 6.25 quarts of oil in this thing.
For the intake I am trying out one that this guy has been making and selling out of his garage for DSM's. However, he has done comparisons to other intakes and his design gives about the same results as competitors and a huge gain over stock intakes. I was still sporting the stock intake, but now I'll be flowing better...
Wheels... I won the auction. As soon as the come I'll post pictures. :)

Thanks guys... Figured I'd give you guys some updates here on the few little things I've been working on...
So over the weekend I had cut the spare tire hump out of the car to gain space for redoing the exhaust and also to have a more functional hatch for some new goodies coming soon...
Got a piece of sheet metal cut to about the size needed and had an X pressed into it to stiffen it up so it wouldn't need any extra bracing. (My buddy's idea) It got welded in and then I seam sealed the whole thing on the inside and outside.
Of course during all this I found that the pieces on each side where the hatch drain tubes go through had rusted clear through and need to be cut out and replaced as well. :ohdamn: If I had known that, I would have gotten two smaller pieces to repair it as well. Oh well, that'll be a project maybe next weekend or the weekend after that...
Next I need to get some carpet with padding for the hatch and put my trim pieces back in and then I can remount my battery box and it should be in great shape!
The exhaust was cut off at the rear axles and a v-band was welded on and then the new exhaust was tacked in place. It definitely hides the muffler and piping much better and gives it a more stock appearance without sacrificing flow. Exhaust was then welded up and is awaiting some high temp paint and it'll be ready to get thrown back on the car.
And of course the nut on the v-band got something jacked up in the threads and destroyed the clamp. Waiting on a new clamp to come in for it as well before it can be remounted...
Here are a few pictures to go along with it all. :)

For the record... It's much cheaper to build your own exhaust than to buy a pre-built kit... You can tailor it to fit your car perfectly and change it to however you'd like...
More updates coming! I will also go back in time and fix my broken images throughout this whole thread...

As you can see below here, I v-banded the exhaust at the rear diff for easier removal of the exhaust in sections when I need to work on things. I was able to add some more piping and ran it up and over to the passenger side and then mount a full Magnaflow muffler up where the spare tire hump used to be. Then there is some tailpipe and a 90 to go out of there to quiet it down a little bit without sacrificing flow. It sounds pretty good now too in my opinion... Then the other two pics you can see how the tailpipe/tip sticks out... Gives it more of a stock appearance than having some big exhaust hanging right there for everyone to see...

I'm a big fan of the sound an open dump makes. I debated for a while about using one on my dsm but later changed my mind
Blackcrow64
07-14-2011, 08:15 AM
I feel an open dump tube would get annoying if the boost was set to a lower level where you would hit it easily all the time. But set at 20psi I don't hear it too often... Unless I am having a Nascar feeling day. lol...

Car looks great. Looks like it sits a little high, but I know you country boys got some dirt roads out there. Glad it's running finally.
I had an open dump and would kick on pretty quick (8psi). Sounded great and never got annoying. Always very aggressive sounding. Was a total head-turner.

Wheels and coilovers are next up on the list... Already got the wheels but need to space em out 10mm to clear the suspension with the tires on... Should give it a slightly more aggressive stance as well... Not sure which coilovers to go with yet... Looking at possibly going with DGR. I have a few people who recently got them and I am waiting to hear back from them on how they perform...

So I've got a few issues with the car... Last night I blew a line off the oil cooler and was stuck without tools or oil for a little while. In the rain... That sucked but got it fixed and got it home... I have a grinding/dragging sound coming from the back end near the rear diff... I'm hoping it isn't on it's way out... Also sounds like I might have a wheel bearing on its way out...
So... I'm thinking I may have to put a few other things on hold while I do more of maintenance type items on the car... So coilovers will be pushed back for the time being...
Yeah... Can't spell disappointment without DSM...

I have several things for the car now which I will probably work on some this winter... I have a legit full black interior now which I plan on using to replace the one I dyed and painted. I also have my new wheels and had been waiting on some spacers to use so they would clear the suspension because of the offset. They should be here this next week and then I will put them on... Still need to lower this thing... Has anyone else had good/bad experiences with certain lowering springs? I'm not sure what to go with really... I'm leaning towards a set of Eibachs... I'm thinking about 2" lower.

10-03-2011, 11:38 PM
I ran the eibach sportline springs on my car paired with kyb gr2 struts. Nice handling, as well as a firm sporty ride. Not rough or bouncy. Perfect spring, IMO. With the drop of course I got a substancial amount of neg. camber. 3 and 4 degrees. So tire wear wasnt great. So keep in mind you will probably want to invest in some type of camber correction.
Blackcrow64
10-04-2011, 02:07 PM
Yeah, I am definitely going to correct the camber. I can't afford to be burning through too many sets of tires with all my toys now. lol...

It ended up not being the manifold seal... It ended up being one of the fuel injector seals. The backside of it was blown out and the way it was blowing air out made it feel like it was coming from the manifold seal...

Pedal went to the floor and didn't come back up... Checking under the hood there was no fluid left in the reservoir, and I'm assuming line as well. It was still wet so I know it lost it all at that point, just not sure where it blew out at yet.
Le sigh... I really need a massive garage right about now to tear crap apart and work on it...

Figure I'd give you guys an update here... Been saving up my pennies to buy a house/garage so I can actually work on my projects more... However I stumbled across I deal I couldn't say no to and the wheels start spinning again...
Upgrading a few things on the Talon... Fuel system, turbo, and here comes alcohol injection... Getting my plans together to have it leaning more towards full track car than a street car.
On a side note, anyone wanna buy a black dash/center console? Not the one I dyed but I had bought a legit black one last summer and don't want it now. I'd rather sell it for money towards more fun upgrades. :)
