where are all the pics?
They were all on my old server when I had them in this thread but then everything got changed around and I upgraded to a better setup and I just haven't gotten all the pics migrated over yet. I just have the more recent ones from the last week on there. I am gonna try to get it all moved over this weekend so I can get some more stuff setup on there.
Im waiting for my email when trying to register. That's pretty cool you have your own site and it looks pretty legit.
Let me know if you don't get the email for it. I tested everything out before and it worked but the system seemed a little flakey still. I'm not sure if I have everything setup right or not still... That's why you guys are gonna be my guinea pigs for it.
*EDIT*
Ned, about what time did you register? I may have to manually force emails to be sent if it doesn't work automatically... I figure I'd give it a 24 hour period on its own first to see if it goes through or not.

I just got home from getting everything back together. Turned out I needed a new balance shaft elimination kit as the balance stub is what completely seized up in the oil pump. I didn't realize that it wasn't part of the oil pump since it was seized in there so bad. It should have slid right out. I was looking over the new pump before I put it in was was like wtf is going on here... My buddy had a spare elimination kit though in his garage, so he saved the day so I could get on with reassembling everything. Monday I'm off from work again and then hopefully it'll be start up time! I'll post more details and pics tonight on here and the site when I get home. Got a big night planned. :naughty:

Today was NOT crank day...
Changed the UICP for hood clearance, found a crack in my oil pan, reinstalled my starter (happened to find it out of the car and had forgotten about it) and got screwed by UPS' 2 day shipping deal... "Supposedly" my transfer case output seal is supposed to be here tomorrow...
Fingers crossed that tomorrow WILL be crank day...

Eff DSM's...
It hates me...
It back to a stock ECU now with the translator and AFC on it cause it won't run... Fuel, spark, timing. It's all there but it still won't fire. WTF? Tried changing the CAS 180 degrees to eliminate that. Nothing has changed since November when it ran just fine everything as it is. Thoughts?

Back when the oil pump seized from the balance shaft stub seizing, it must have jumped the timing right before the oil pump sprocket broke... That would explain the noise I heard back then (when the sprocket broke) but the car kept running and then slowly turned off as it bent one valve at a time... They are so ever slightly bent that they are still moving, thus why I had no clearance issue while turning the motor this time. They just aren't sealing up perfect when closed... It's amazing how much work you can accomplish in 4 hours when your pissed and just ripping it all out. I didn't want to at all, but I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do... A new set of ss 1mm oversized intake valves are on their way and I should have them by Wednesday... Hopefully I can get the car running by the weekend... (which I work:()

Also, another new possible problem has been brought to my attention tonight...
Possibly clearance issues with my oversized valves and the pistons valve pockets even when it is in time... Anybody else running oversized valves in their motor that could clue me in as to if they had to machine their pistons for this clearance issue? I'm not sure how much if any clearance is there now. The head was machined to fit the valves but I didn't give it a thought that there could be a problem with the valve pockets on the pistons...
Here are the specs on my pistons...
- Stroke: 3.465" (88mm)
- Rod Length: 5.905 (150mm)
- Compression Height: 1.378 (35mm)
- Head cc's: 47
- Dome Dish: -10
- Gasket Thickness: .042" (1.1mm)
- Deck Clearance: 0
- Block Height: 9.015: (229mm)
- Compression Ratio: 9.0:1
- Pin Diameter: .827" (21mm)
Any clues as to how I can tell before putting this whole thing back together again? I'm assuming the Deck Clearance is the clearance at TDC with the head? Hmmm...

I was gonna text you this, but my phone is being a POS, so I gave up.
Was the block and/or head ever decked? If so, do you know how much? You should get them measured to make sure. If they're close to maximum machining, you MAY be having some clearance issues (I say may because I haven't had experience with oversized valves, I'm just going off of the fact that these motors have such close interference tolerances), but if you've still got alot of material to work with, you should not be having any issues.
My guess is still that you bent the valves when you broke the oil pump sprocket, it's the only thing that makes logical sense. When you broke the oil sprocket, it spun the crank but skipped on the intake sprocket and wham...bend-o valve-o.

I am really hoping that is when they bent, but since I didn't check my timing before tearing it apart, I have no clue... I don't think it was decked when I had my machine work done, but it's possible... The guy who originally put the motor together had built hundreds of 4g63's and I would have thought he would have pointed out a problem to me if there was a clearance issue when he was assembling it...
Is there something I could do to make up the difference on the clearance if there is an issue there? I'm running the MLS head gasket which helps some (.051) on the thickness, but is there something else I could do besides finding a new head and/or block? Damn interference motors...

If you really need a 6 bolt head, I might be able to get my hands on the one I use to have. The guy I gave it to still has it.
Blackcrow64
07-03-2009, 10:17 AM
We'll see. I'm taking my head to a guy today to have him check my valve guides for damage and to replace my valves... If the clearance issue is still there after I get it back then I may have to get a stock head for the time being unless I can find a thicker head gasket to compensate for the lack of clearance... I think the MLS one I have though is the thickest they make...

I did call and talk to him about it to try to get the ball rollin but when I took it to him I already knew he had several other motors he was working on before mine. However he said it would only take a week or so and he should have it done. Looks like it's taking a little longer than he expected. I don't wanna give the guy a hard time and then have him end up half assing it cause of me getting on his case about it. He is one of the best guys around here and that is why I'm having him do it.
