Not a sweet deal at all... was pissed about it. Like I said though, I plan on replacing both fenders at some point when the car is getting close to being painted. The passenger side has a decent amount of rust growing on it from the accident

Got head inside to work on it today. For some reason, new valves still didn't come in. Found 4 bent valves, all intake side, cylinders 1 and 2. Pulled all intake and just going to replace those along with the valve seals.

And my kitchen became a workshop again. I decided to polish the cam journals, did some touchup polishing on the intake side and cleaning up the combustion chamber

The only part of my car I've punched, was my horn. When I had my dash fire in the talon, the horn needed to be punched.

Checked the tracking on the valves and they were delivered to the business in front of me, I guess they just forgot to put them at my door. No biggy.
As for the fender, ef it. I really don't care. Like I said, they're going to get replaced sooner than later so not really a big deal. And I'm sure if I took off the fender I can pop the rest of it out no problem. Plus I really wasn't expecting it to dent the way it did. I have this really nice punching bag setup but just have no place to put it in my place. I need to find space for it. Sadly, it's just too big for my place :(

Did that guy with the timing belt covers ever come through?
I had paid him, and he said it would be out. I kept asking him about it, and then he said like a good week later that he was taking it off the car the next day. I was under the assumption that it was off the car and ready to go. I got my money back. Found a company selling the one side and asked about the back. They said they had it, but then the next day said it was in bad shape. FINALLY someone responded on Tuners to the classified ad and it came in on Friday. Such a pain trying to find these things. This one has one small crack which I have to trim up, but all in all in good shape.
Thanks for searching though Ned. Much appreciated!

He did, but I got one anyways so it all worked out. The back of the cover I kept altogether, going from the bottom up. The front part I cut around the timing gears so I can still adjust them. I have a plan for something for there, but not revealing until it fails miserably.
Since this was the 1st time installing a timing cover, I kept having to go backwards, as I would install something, then realize that the cover had to go on first or whatnot. Was kind of lame. But now I know.
Car is nearly ready to be started. About another hour worth of work and it'll be running again. I have to buy some heavy duty thread lock for that center crank bolt. I don't want that falling out again. Although the belts wont get sucked through the timing belt if it does this time :)
Just have to...
-Change Oil
-Fill coolant
-Installed plugs and wires (just capping holes at the moment)
-Install battery
-Little misc. connections and hoses
-Thread lock crank bolt
All quick stuff! Hopefully she runs

Finished her up last night, working fast trying to beat the rain. She cranks perfectly, and sounds healthy while priming. However, I was getting a -9* reading on my CLT in MSnS so didn't fire her up. It started pouring badly right afterward, so couldn't get around to fixing it. I'm pretty sure it's just a bad connection. The plastic clips on the sensor itself broke last time I tore her down, so I think I may just replace the sensor. Only like $15 anyways.
I'm leaving work early today and trying again before the rain gets here, but looks cloudy already :(

07-10-2010, 03:27 PM
She runs, and runs quite well I might add. Been working on her for awhile each day.
Had a problem with the TPS reading too high when the car was on, so I ran new wires to it from MS that joined at the sensor, and not at the ECU, and getting way better readings. Thing purrs like a kitten.
Wanted to drive it today and was prepping it last night but a new problem came up. When the crank bolt backed out last time, it appears as if the crank pulley slipped on the crank itself, causing it to basically grind down the inside of the pulley. So when the car is running, you hear the crank literally sliding around the inside of the pulley, which makes a horrible metal-on-metal noise. So, buying yet another crank pulley, and will get that installed when it comes in. Hopefully the crank itself is not damaged.

I had the same problem with my wifes subaru. The pulley came loose and grinded the inside of the pulley off. Ended up replacing it 3x, couldn't get it tight enough and it kept coming loose. Ended up going with the lightweight pulley and fixed the problem.

The bolt itself was still solid as hell in there. Was just the pulley that was screwed up. Had the cams locked up so they wouldn't turn while I took a breaker bar to the bolt to tighten. It was on there good.

And she runs!
Bought a new UDP, which turns out to have failed. The power steering pulley on it was V shaped. Stupid. Not too happy so not going to get into detail about it. The one day process turned into 2 days.
Long story short, stock pulley is back on along with the stock pulleys. Regrounded the WBO2 to MegaSquirt, and getting much better reading from it. So now I have to retune the entire fuel map. But just came back from the bar and she's running good minus the super richness. Needs to go to the shop soon to have the suspension done. Making a lot of noise up there. I'm buzzing good right now, so I'll just post some pics.

:lol: Thanks. Waxed the shit out of the GA's hubcaps. Shiney as hell right now.
The Talon does look straight up sexy chillin in the garage. Looks like a monster waiting to come out. Wish the rest of the body looked as good as the front. Everyone loves the black FMIC. Think that was a good choice.
Suspension was making a lot of noise last night coming home, so it won't be driven too much except for around the hood until I get the money to take to the shop. Will get the coilovers installed, new front hubs, couple of the boots are torn so I bet they replace the control arms, and anything else in the suspension that needs it. Then I'll drop the car probably about 1.25" in the front, probably 1.75" in the back :) Hoping to get it to the shop within 2 weeks.

07-28-2010, 10:33 AM
GA been running for a while now too. Head was warped originally. Bought new one, installed, been good ever since kinda. The exhaust cam holder leaks oil (it didn't seal right or something when putting back together), so it's covered in copper gasket sealer and been holding great for a couple months now. And the block is still cracked so coolant gets pushed out. But I just check levels every other week, and it's fine. Just recharged the AC last night and its nice and cold now.
Still have 6 dash lights on that thing, and it needs to be taken in for suspension work. Making a weird grinding/moaning thing while turning left now. But I'll get the wheel hub replaced with the faulty ABS sensor and should ideally turn off 2 of those lights. MAP is casugin the CEL.

Talon has been running pretty good this weekend. Since the GA crapped out had no choice but to get the Talon running. Tuning has been kind of hard, been super rich... actually so rich it's bogged a couple times. Been working on the fuel map but think I have to turn down the calculated fuel setting.
But other than running rich, it's pretty good. I think I have an exhaust leak somewhere (can smell it) but no big. Been giving the car a little bit of boost, but only a pound or so since it gets stupid rich and studders. Lastly, been doing some detaling in the engine bay. Waxed and polished some parts, and then been degressing all the couplers and everything. Even been doing some small touchups in the bay with black paint.

Thanks. I want to get some shots this weekend of the whole thing, and of course edit to mask the crappy paint lol
Not sure with your "DSMLink mumbo-jumbo" what you're talking about :) But I'm going to assume something has to do with the initial amount of fuel the maps are based off of? If so, then yes. Going to turn down .1 and see what happens. I believe the last setup was using it (4.5 compared to 4.6). These injectors are huge so hard to dial in right.
Going to be taking the car some distance this weekend outside of the neighborhood, so need to tune it decently and get her not drinking as much as she is. Oil and coolant are holding good though, haven't seen any leaks yet

Seems pretty similar, but yet still very different.
According to MS manual
REQ_FUEL
REQ_FUEL (short for "required fuel") is the part of the computation that tells MegaSquirt® how big your injectors are, and what your cylinder displacement (CYL_DISP) is. It is the length of time in milliseconds [ms] that MegaSquirt® should “squirt” to give the stoichiometric amount of fuel (14.7 Air/Fuel Ratio for gasoline) at 100% VE, a manifold absolute pressure (MAP) of 100kPa, and an air temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit for a complete stroke cycle.
The air/fuel ratio (AFR) is the mass of air compared to the mass of fuel entering the engine, so for a 14.7:1 AFR we have 14.7 times as much air (by weight) as fuel. The volume ratio is much more extreme, about 9000:1, and varies considerably with temperature, so AFR is always specified by mass. A stoichiometric mixture is chemically correct for complete burning with no extra fuel OR air left over. For gasoline, a 14.7:1 AFR is considered the correct amount for burning with no leftover air or fuel. Note that it is not necessarily the ratio for most power or efficiency.
Req_Fuel is calculated from the equation:
REQ_FUEL*10 = 36,000,000 * CID * AIRDEN(100kPA, 70ºF)/(NCYL*AFR*INJFLOW ) * 1/DIVIDE_PULSE
Where:
36,000,000 is the number of tenths of a millisecond in an hour, used to get the pounds per 1/10 milllisecond from the pounds/hours rating of the injectors.
REQ_FUEL = Computed injector open time in tenths of millisecond.
CID = Cubic Inch Displacement.
AIRDEN = Air density (pounds per cubic inch) at MAP pressure of 100 Kpa, Air Temperature of 70
Degrees F, and Barometric Pressure of 30.00 In HG
NCYL = Number of Cylinders
INJFLOW = Injector Flow Rate in pounds per hour.
DIVIDE_PULSE = injection divide number for number of injections per engine cycle.
This is just a basic number which you put in the size of injectors, target idle afr, engine size, and it figures it out. However, the number it's given me (4.6) is just not working. I believe its a smaller number for less fuel, and that changes the entire map since the ve table is then using the different number to calculate fuel. Long story short, a change in 0.# should help.

CID = Cubic Inch Displacement.
AIRDEN = Air density (pounds per cubic inch) at MAP pressure of 100 Kpa, Air Temperature of 70
Degrees F, and Barometric Pressure of 30.00 In HG
NCYL = Number of Cylinders

Wow, I guess they're very different.

Got some new toys yesterday :)

Installed the new gauages. Hated the way the white ones looked. And then they were blue at night :( Looked very Ricer, but at the time, that was all that was available. They also didnt work half the time, so was hard driving at night. So found these that look stock, but bright as hell with adjustable dimmer and on/off switch. Haven't seen them at night yet, but will be nice.

Meanwhile the cluster was out, I pulled out the CEL since it's always on due to MSnS. And also pulled the security light and a couple others (that I don't have) and put them in spots were bulbs were missing. Hopefully if I did it right, all the needles should light up and be able to see everything clearly now.

I'm keeping the silver bezel, just looks dead hot.
And then the tinting of the lights. They're drying right now in the sun. Can not wait to see what they look like on the car. Headed out to clean up the dirt behind them on the car right now. More pics later.

They turned out great. Center section top is a little darker than the rest, but that's ok. Didn't like the yellow there anyways. All installed an on. I hope they're not too dark at night. It's to bright right now to test, but they look hot so far. Also looks darker in person than on camera. I wish the paint of the car was in better shape. And it's a little dirty, so don't hate.
