'88 Porsche 944 Turbo
'93 Porsche 928 GTS
'95 Porsche 911 Carrera

95 carrera isn't old... neither is 93 or an 88...

78 911 turbo nothing special there and an 85 testerossa isn't old either.

(Aleva owns a white one with exhaust)

exactly why do you hate them?

I don't like old cars most are highly overrated...

shelby 427 A/c cobra is one of the very few cars that I have respect for as far as that "era" goes.

jcsaleen
10-26-2005, 04:28 PM
Light and nimble British roadster which had a big American V8 stuffed in it a la Shelby Cobra.

It was one of the rare supercars of its era...learn some respect boy!! :p

Edit: So, that means the Lamborghini Countach, Ferrari 348, 328, 308, Venturi Atlantique, Acura NSX, Aston Martin DB7 Vantage, Porsche 968, etc. etc. etc. are POSs?

Nsx isn't old...

Contach was the poor mans lambo = to the boxter's ranking today in porsche. Ferrari 308 wasn't amazing at all one of my friends parents had one, It wasn't anything to brag about at all. The Db7 I give credit where it's due but I'd take a Db9 over it anyday. The main arguement is supercars today vs then. So what would you have Db7 or Db9? The 968 was great but I'd take a 959 and even then thats not "OLD". Even the 962's aren't "OLD" either.

The shelby wasn't exactly what I call a supercar more of a mut. It seems to be a kit car more or less.

I wasn't saying they were old, I was saying that they're apparently POSs according to your statement that any car that does 0-60 in over 5 seconds is. Countach was not the poor mans Lambo, it was the big daddy, top of the line Lambo - Jalpa, Silhouette, Urraco, etc were the "poor man's Lambos", indeed I would rather have a DB7 than a DB9, and the 968 and 959 are completely different categories of car and not exactly comparable...

Edit: Damnit, took too long to write my rant...

Ah you mean in the present day - in that case, no, it isn't the big daddy Lambo anymore. However, Countach is not to modern Lambos as Boxster is to modern Porsches as you said; rather, Countach is to modern Lambos as '84 911 Turbo is to modern Porsches...

Superdrifter's car is an Allard J2X, yet another kick-ass example of a little British roadster with a big American V8 :D

crikey, those last few posts by jcsaleen have to be the biggest collection of bull i've seen him post.
is he seriously comparing a 1970s car (lamborghini countach) and its performance to modern day cars?

does he have an idea of what every day cars were doing 30 years ago?
despite me givng him the benefit of the doubt, he turns out to be another number worshipping kid after all.
sub 5 sec. 0-60 = supercar.
RS6 (Avant no less) is a supercar?
Subaru RA spec C is a supercar?
Cateram R500 is a supercar?
Celica GT4 is 0.2 secs away from being a supercar?
Subaru Forrester?
has the phrase "get a clue" ever been more appropriate?

for the record, countach's do sell but most collectors would be after the original LP400s before it got americanised (i.e fat and laden with useless addenda).

anyway.
as for the car.
is it the same as a very famous rally and F1 circuit?
but supersized?

jcsaleen
10-28-2005, 10:08 PM
A supercars minimal requirement should be atleast 5 seconds as far as 0-60 for any date car. As far as todays standards well... Then I think your dreaming. 0-60 in 3.5 or less then maybe I'd consider it.

Edit - :shakehead

drunken monkey
10-28-2005, 10:24 PM
so,
Ford GT isn't a supercar?
Mucielago isn't a supercar?
Diablo 6.0 isn't a supercar?
MC12 isn't a supercar?
none of the zonda's make it under 3.5.
caterham R500 just misses it and a CSR is?

and why should 5 secs be the requirement?
for any date?
even 30 years ago?
even if 30 years that sub 5 sec. car was one of the fastest cars on the road?
are you aware of such a thing called context?
why am i even bothering?

little question, do you like a car purely because it has good numbers or is it something else?

Don't worry about it. He's always been like this, it just shows me how much free time he really has so I can just sit back and laugh. He tries and tries to get under my skin but I'm not the same as I back in the XJ ERA (Jay) He tries to flame in every thread even my personal posts. Like I said I just kick back & laugh. It's no big deal so I'll just leave it  ....

flame?
i am pointing out the silliness of the things you are saying.
not the same as flaming.
you make it out to be something personal.
it's not.
don't say stupid things (and often just plain wrong)and i keep my fingers off them keys. of course, i could be more diplomatic about it but i never said subtley was my strong point.

by the by,
zonda monza.
that would be the non-production, demonstration track car, right?
so while none of the others are supercars, this one is?
do you see the stupidity of what you are suggesting?

and i've given the name of the car.
the last person up can post again or heck, you can have it jc if you want.

Drunken Monkey is correct, the car is a Mega Monte Carlo.

As far as the debate goes, it doesn't belong in this thread and definitely needs to be more debating and less flaming. However, as I'm quite interested in the topic and passionate about classic cars, I'll start another thread about them, which will be closely monitored. Any more posts about it in here will be removed.

between 1955-1960. Out of the three models that this manufacturer featured, this particular model was the one that this company sold the most, biggest years from when it debuted in 1956-1958, powered by a 285, 300 and 375 hp V8.
