The base kit is the 1:12 Fujimi Veilside Nissan Skyline R32 GTR.
OK, I have had this kit for 18 months now and been itching to start it.
I also wanted to enhance it some.
I doubt I will go with the Veilside body kit at the moment, but maybe, the body is way in the future.
I have started with the brake discs, these are only prototypes at the moment not quite happy yet, but you get the idea.
The same goes for the front suspension, it should be better when I get the longer springs later this week.
Aftermarket parts 1:12 are near imposible to find so, all the aluminium parts you will see are machined by myself on a mini Lathe and Mini Milling Machine unless stated otherwise.

Thanks for looking,
hopefully I'll get to finish it oneday :)

Must be nice to have your own lathe and milling machine. Are those run via Cam system?

Dude you are too much. Unbelievalbe quality work your creating here. You should sell an upgrade kit or something. Impressive at the very least.

Hiroboy
08-02-2004, 09:06 AM
You should sell an upgrade kit or something.
Nice idea but I don't think it would sell well, not many people have the kit or will buy it as it quite expensive to start with.

nervestrikes
08-02-2004, 09:15 AM
I often thougt about ordering this kit, but was afraid of fujimi fit problems at such an expensive price. Now if tamiya were to make a 1:12 skyline I would have 3 already. Have you hand any problems with the kit so far that are really notable?

Hiroboy

Not yet but I have not even opened the body. It is definatley for the more advance model maker, if you use the resin body parts.
I'm throwing away loads of bits and remaking them so fit problems are not something I'm worried about.
But so far, the chassis and engine all seem fine.
If you want you don't need to glue much at all it is held together with screws, but I'm filling all the holes in and gluing it all instead.

Steve, you have really made an investmement on this one!

Progress is staggering!!

Did you have to do a course or something to learn how to produce turned parts? Was the machinery expensive??

Hiroboy

I learned to use a Lathe and milling machine when I did my engineering apprenticeship many years ago, so it was just a case of remembering, but it's really simple.
The Lathe was 435 Pounds and the Milling Machine 282 Pounds, but they get used for more that the Scale Car modeling (but mainly that at the moment)

Tonight I'm about to start work on re-doing the Exhaust Manifold and Tubro/s.
What do we think is best 2 off smaller Turbo's or 1 off Large Turbo.?
Love to hear your ideas, and pics if any.

I say two smaller turbos. Dyno queens need not apply. I've oft considered getting a lathe, at least, and there are some rather inexpensive model-specific lathes and milling machines available (for those who may be interested). This is going to be just fantastic, I can't wait to see all the detail you put in, so far it's just beautiful. 1:12 seems to be the way to go detailwise, these days.

i agree with willimo, 2 smaller turbos would be nice, keep up the amazing work!

I'm speechless! This will no doubt be a fantastic model when finished.
The machine work so far looks pretty good for someone who is rembering their trade, I too am an old engineering apprentice but I moved into the audio visual world straight after my apprenticeship, so I know how it feels to remember stuff like speeds and feeds. Good luck Steve, not that you need it.

Hiro my man...

its been a while since i been here on AF... so busy and everything.

but i see you started your adventure on the 1/12 GTR, hey I was wondering if it was possible for you to replicate those parts in a resin cast so I can buy a set of this stuff you are making, I really want to do my ABS lines, but ive not started yet. Im really looking forward to his great build you got going...

but please.... if you can for the modelling community, can you some how replicate your parts and then put them in a package to sell out?

In anycase, I will be following this thread with my very last breath... welcome to the adventure of a 1/12 GTR... don't forget the sanding on the body... that will take time.

See you Hiro

Wow, this is going to be one of the best, if not THE best model ever posted on this forum. I got a question, though. What kinds of things can be made with a milling machine? Do you know of any good sites that have information on them? I tried searching, but I always come up with links to books. Anyway, keep up the good work!

nervestrikes
08-06-2004, 08:57 AM
I personally think one large turbo would look better because it would definitely keep the engine looking clean as well not be missed by any on lookers. Go with the large singular turbo, gives you plenty material for detailing also.

If I may, 2 smaller machined aluminum turbos, properly painted with heat stains would look absolutely stuning, plus the plumbing would be a real stand out.

Steve - I am VERY impressed with this model, as I am with all your models, please keep progress pics coming.

A bit more progress made over the last week.

Some of the bits look a bit rought but don't forgt how small they are and the camera seems to put up marks and scratchs the naked eye can't.

Thanks
