Great progress. Really, a fantastic job. One question however out of curiosity: I would like to know why you went with the Bayside Blue over any of the other colours in the Nissan range? Black, wine red, silver, gun grey etc. are all more 'popular' colours. Was it wanting to do something a little different while still remaining faithful to Nissan's colour range?
Overall however, I am absolutely gobsmacked at the sheer detail and finishing of your work. Thankyou for updating us.

Oh boy... that's a really unique color. Gives a different feeling to the R32. Btw, is that the wheels u'll use? and what colour? dark gray w/ chrome edge would look very sexy imo, lol. Anyways, keep up the good work!

Are those the wheels from the kit or did you make those too. Man the more I see progress on this kit I want one with a set of the turned aluminum parts you made. Yep it is time you package and sell this stuff cause I will buy.

I'm trying to decide what to do with the bonnet, I was going to Carbon Fibre it but none of the 1:12 sheets cover this bonnet in one peice (just a bit too small). I think it will be blue as well.
Thanks for looking
Hey Hiro.. what about a flat black... i guess could be nice!!!...
Thanks for looking??.. thank you for show all this to us!!!!

Looks great! That is a beautiful color, very rich. Are you sure you can't do the carbon fiber? I've had good luck laying down two CF decals next to each other and making them look like a solid peice, you just have to take care to align the weave. The pattern is so busy it makes it difficult to notice the seam, and the decals (at least the SMS one I use) are so thin there is nary a texture at the joint. Perhaps you can put a call in to the manufacturer, see if they will run a special printing of the decal? Unlikely, but, if they're told their decal is just a smidge too narrow, perhaps they will find it in their best interest to sell a slightly bigger sheet - 1:12 is bit, after all, and I'd be surprised if you were the only person to have this problem. Anyway, looks like you're gettin' there, I for one can't wait.

hmm... Couldnt you make your own set of wheels? i know its gonna be a biatch but it looks to me like you're going all out on this project.

This is amazing! I canīt understand how some one is able to put so much effort to one model.. Anyway I think the colour looks great as it is I mean without clear coat (call me stupid but I think itīs cool:D) and a flat black bonnet would be spot on with this colour:bigthumb:

OK.. The next question I would like your views on is :
Body is Blue, Engine Cover etc is Deep Metallic Red (R34 Style)
Should the Engine Bay be Blue as the body
or White, which alot of Blue R32's are?
Thanks

I think white would make the engine details more visible, and seeing all the detailling you're doing, you'd better show it ! BTW have you considered a clear vacu-formed hood ?
nervestrikes
09-23-2004, 09:06 AM
I would say white just to offset the blue highlighting the great r32 engine.
nis.k.a.
09-23-2004, 10:03 AM
I would either do Black or the Bayside Blue. Popping the hood on a blue car and getting blinded by white doesn't seem right to me.

Keep the engine bay body color!
Whenever I see cars that have mis-matched black or non-body color engine bays it reminds me that:
The engine has been swapped
The owner didn't take the time to paint the engine bay!
Looks cheesy on custom/high dollar cars, in my opinion

To be honest, I would stay with the blue for the engine bay. A different colour engine bay than the body smacks of a respray on 1:1 vehicles. I good friend of mine had an originally black 1:1 R32 GT-R that had been resprayed in Japan (prior to importing into Australia) to a custom orange/red colour, and while the paintjob was first class, the engine bay remained the original black. It just wasn't right.
I say keep the professional look going with the engine bay the same colour as the body. You are bound to perhaps lose some of the detail anyway by the sheer fact that so many parts will be out of normal view (think of some of your suspension componentry for instance), but the devil is in the detail so to speak, and having a uniform colour within your engine bay adds to that detail I believe.
However, my opinion is but a humble one. I think whatever Hiroboy chooses to do, the final result will still be spectacular.

Looking at the 1:1 and your model. Keep the engine bay blue. In reference to realism the paint would've cost you a couple more thousand to paint the engine bay, doors, trunk etc.

Nissan was actually cheap on some of the skyline colours and only primed the engine bays and not a full color spray.
but IMHO a color matched engine bay looks best.
Nice work so far. That color looks primo on the 32

Body has been clear coated now with 4 coats of Halfords Lacquer and left for 7 days, then polished out with Tamiyas new range of compound, Course, Fine and Finish. then 2 coats of Tamiya Polish.
Panel lines and window rubbers are next to do.
Still trying to find a large peice of 1:12 Carbon Fibre, tried Scale Motorsport but they said they only stock 1 size. So it may stay matt black.

Amazing ... i guess you will never be satisfied anymore with 1/24 curbside kits.. :)
I liked hood on matt black... but if you still looking for a CF without succesfull, why donīt you try to do some like this:

With your skills youīll have no problems!!!!

Steve,
many CF hoods are not made of one sheet anyways, so 2 or 3 would be acceptable in the real world.
But...if you really want to go for it, try experimenting with different types of women's pantyhose and stockings. Stretch a peice of the stocking material over the entire hood surface, tape it from underneath and then try various Tamiya acrylic colors over to produce a pretty realistic CF finish.
I use gunmetal over X-18 (or TS-29) and clearcoated in Future to produce a pretty good representation of pewter CF on my 1:20th Tamiya F-1 kits.
hth and keep up the amazing work,
