what did you use to to burn it, how did you hold it over flame, wait in one question, how the heck did you do it?

Steve, your work never cease to amaze me.
This sentence has been written thousands of times in your threads, but for God's sake it's the truth
You've reached such a high level in all your projects. Imo, you're a master in painting, modifying and customising. Even in taking photos (your photos have been very inspiring for mine :evillol: ) and now you create your own parts ... it's too cool :smokin:
If I had to confer the award for 'Modeler of the year' on someone, it would be you.

I used a Gas Soldering Iron in Blow Torch mode much like these :
http://www.dansdata.com/vulkan.htm
http://www.dansdata.com/images/vulkan/bigflame100.jpg
and held it with a pair of pliers, it only takes 30 seconds to do and you can see it changing colour as it gets hotter. Leave to cool in air not water.
As it only affects the surface of the steel if you don't like the result, you can polish it off and start again.
Thanks

so you burned the flame directly in to a hole or you did it from side (I belive it is through the hole because the burned ring is so even). Did you maybe tried this with white metal? or it would be to hot for it (sorry for bothering so much but your work allways give me new ideas).

It was applied on the side, whilst turning around to give colouring.
Only certain metals will colour up. For example Aluminium will not, so I very much doubt white metal will. The stainless gets so hot it glows RED, white metal would just melt.
Thanks

99% finished one of the large tubro that's going on this beast.
Took me ages but I'll 95% happy now, just another to make.
If I can i'll add the internal turbine.
FYI : This was also, like other parts machined from Aluminium bar on the Lathe. It's made up of 5 parts
Thanks for viewing, all coments welcome, good or bad :)
Edit: The bar out the back is only to hold it for now, but will be cut off later and the flange added.

What was the original turbos like that you got with the kit?
Were they plastic or no turbo at all?
I gotta get me one of these kits. :evillol:

I really like the inlet, the turbine is a must!
Will you detail the oil lines/flange bolts etc.?
I'm assuming the parts have been polished and if they are it looks brilliant

Steve........
Instead of making the turbine (which would be awesome) for a realistic touch I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to grind out some HKS foam filter necks. You could use any sponge backing for the filter. All these guys running filterless turbos is playing with a blazing fire.
Another idea. You could make the turbine blades and the filter cages so you could display one on and one off.

Here you are, I have created a thread on the "How To make Turbos" here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2187354)
What was the original turbos like that you got with the kit? Were they plastic or no turbo at all?

I hope this answers that question OK.
Thanks for looking.

OH HELL.....
Chop that ex. mani. up. Machine the flange and bend some pipe for the exhaust runners. Of course, take the torch to the bends for that heated stainless look.
By bending your own pipe you could top mount the turbos and even stagger them, one mounted higher than the other.

Thanks for the nice comments guys.
Here are a few more photos, taken during test assembly and before painting, I test painted using a trial Bell Housing with Tamiya Primer, then a few light coats of Alcad Pale Gold.
The disc is made of 5 parts :
1. Back of Disc with thin strips of plastic cut and super glued on the inside to create the slotted affect once assembied.
2. Front of the disc which was hand drilled, which seems must cleaner than using the milling machine.
3. Bell Housing, machined to size, drilled for the studs and countersunk at the back. The holes for the 10 off small bolts were jig drilled thro' to the front of the disc.
4. The small fixings holding the Bell Housing to the disc are from Sakatsu supplied by David @ http://www.scaleracecars.com/ which are just the right size for this application.
5. M1.6 Countersink screws were then superglued from the back into the Housing for the wheel studs.
You also have a small boss which was made to fit inside the housing, this is tapered so when the central screw and nut is done up it holds the lot in place.
